Hello everyone. I recently purchased a Q96 Max with Android 11.1, 8GB ram and 128GB ROM.
I knew the $27 price tag was a clue to its trust worthiness. Got it in and hooked it up. Looked good. However, in less than 2 min of operating, the system froze up. Had to pull the power. After 3 attempts at just trying any app only to be met with a freeze, I reached out to the seller. Seller says I need to mail it back to China at my expense and not be refunded for the shipping. This would be a NOOO!
Currently have a claim opened with PayPay.
Anyway.. I have had luck replacing the firmware on other boxes. So I am looking for one. Anyone know where I can find a replacement firmware? Android 9-11 should be fine.
Thank You
Are you enter in Recovery Mode?

Hello,
Did you get some update on this issue?
Well, after a LOT of research, I found that these boxes actually NEVER manufactured with 8-16gb ram and 128-256GB ROM.
What they actually make is 1-2gb ram and 4, 8 and 16gb ROM.
I found the amlogic drivers and amlogic usb burning tools.
The logic board in line is model PS905V100A1-4-101017
Processor is Amlogic S905L-B

Hello,
I'm trying do the same. But without success. Did you get a better performance with the update?
Could you share the files and steps to perform a similar update on my unit?
Many thanks!
BTW, i found some information here:
Q96 MAX (S905L-B) - atvXperience : The Forum
Never done an update. Still haven't found the correct firmware. It currently has 11.1. From what I understand, its actually supposed to have 7.1. I would love to find the correct 7.1 and flash it and hopefully have the system read what hardware is actually installed. I know it's not 16gb ram and 256gb ram like its showing.
Ok. I understand... I found some firmware, but i don't know how to flash...
No reset button, no update file option...

I haven't figured out how to flash yet either. Still working on it.

Hi all, this is my 1st post.
I've just upgraded my HTC shift with Kingspec 128GB sad and 2GB ram. Now the shift feels super fast!
My version is the italian one and liberate with Romeo OS and running win 7 before the upgrade. i got the sad along with an oem version (built 9200) of windows 8.
install was by using the usb tool to boot and install the OS. i was intending to use the acorns true image however, the image was screwed and hence i decided to install the windows 8.
it's not a path for novices but people with a bit of tinkering knowledge will be able to to do it.
Wifi works and SD card works.
Worth of a mention is one seller on Ebay whom sold me the Keyboard. It came with a few broken keys and they offered to send me another at no extra cost!
I got the memory from here ebay.com/itm/251325732211
SSD from here ebay.com/itm/121184667524?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
The sad sure took his time to come. almost 1 month!
For those who are willing to take the gamble to upgrade, Go ahead. It's worth it.
Battery life improved significantly. Now running close to 2 hours with simple email reading and bait of youtube here and there.
Looking to get another battery and leather case.

How-to:
Battary improvment for Windows (try if it works, if not change back)
The main problem is very old (year 2006) driver of "Intel SD Host Controller", they are 3 in Device manager. Only thing what you need is update driver.
start Computer Management (hold My Computer and select Manage)
select Device management
find SD Controllers, if you click on it, there are 3 "Intel SD Host Controller"s
hold on every one controller, select "Update Driver", select driver from computer, and there is another option "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller", install driver, confirm restart of computer after last update install
reboot
Sync time between Windows and Android
Go to "Run", type in "regedit", then navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\TimeZoneInformation
Add in a new REG_DWORD, "RealTimeIsUniversal" and set its value to 1

Should be possible, but you have to reflash a diffrent bios file -> if something bad happens, you'll have to open it up and use a SPI Programmer to get the device working again.

A tool, to reprogram the bioschip manualy (something like this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/EN25T80-Prog...TO-TTL-/321557451931?pt=Wissenschaftliche_Ger )
And belive me: you don't wanna do that.
It's 119$ on banggood with free shipping 7-25 days. Banggood is a trustworthy company, I got lots of stuff from them (genuine Sj4000 cams especially) and haven't had any problems. They even refunded me once because my package was lost. So it wasn't their fault and still refunded me, though they lost money. I am going to order it today.
I ordered mine @ Tinydeal for around 100€ with free shipping with postNL within 10-15 Days.
I also bought one, DHL delivers tommorow. I hope will be supported here
Can anybody tell me what eMMC and other components this tablet have? You can check it in Device manager. Maybe do some photos and upload them or simply write them here in a post. I want to know if it is equipied with brand hardware such as Realtek Wireless network adapter, or Hynix eMMC, or Toshiba USB 3.0 Driver instead of some cheap chinese no-name hardware.
check this video of Chuwi Vi8 out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n23wVUvVU8E . This is what I am refering to.
Most of them use the same board. And even brand hardware compontents can't guarantee that everything works fine (-> the Teclast x98 air has brand hardwarebut some issues).
Importent is, that everything works fine

I asked this because that cheap 99$ Chuwi Vi8 has Hinyx eMMC which is faster even than X98 Air. I do not quite need the Android OS, so if X80h does not have that eMMC I won't buy it and will go for Vi8 instead. That eMMC does a lot of difference.

Sorry for the off-topic question, but I am just curious how this DHL works.. Many Aliexpress members told me that I pay them ~40$ for DHL shipping and then I'll have to pay import charges as well. What is this after all?

DHL express is fast international shipping method. I bought my tablet on 31 december, and tomorrow will be delivered. The tablet was with DHL shipping $125 and i will pay ~$25 TAX when delivers to me.

those charges depend on where you live. In germany for example, you'll have to pay 19% of the tablet's value.

Oh, I see, so I have to pay the VAT of the tablet. I'd have to pay 24% then. Thanks for clearing this out.
I have a question regarding X80h tablet: I've seen that X98 Air supports 64GB/128GB microSD card when running Windows. Does X80h support as well? At least a 64GB card? Anybody knows/tested?
HI guys, any idea about X89 dual boot model and its battery life...Any one using it or used it?
Internal hardware
Ok, I managed to get some screenshots of the Device manager. The things aren't that bright that I have expected. It's got a BIWIN eMMC., not the Hynix, so much lower speeds. Other than that, everything is standard, as most other tablets have. But that eMMC was a crucial thing. Check the photos I uploaded

Wouldn't say so. Check out these two photos. The X98 Air has the BIWIN eMMC same as X80h while Chuwi Vi8 has the Hynix. You can see huge differences between the two.
The overall speed depends on so many things - let's see how the tablet performs in everyday usage.
I've a Schenker Element & Voyo A1 here and I'll compare and report how the teclast x80h performs against them

That's why I got it. The sound is good, the FM radio app and music app work fine, I have a 64 gig usb in it and it reads all the music.
OP: we have the same MCU. Did a separate post to share my review: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...nits/tc-car-audio-android-head-units-t3428331
It's a step up from my old KGL4, having everything working as you'd expect (especially audio controls from 3rd-party apps) without the need for installing anything else from stock. There's no support from this community yet for our MCU, which is one thing I accepted prior to purchase rather than having to mod things again on a potentially brand new Joying or either HuiFei-based product.
While we lack mainstream support for custom ROM, happy to advise that I managed to root the stock firmware with success. I only had to use the KingRoot APK and poof! Root access granted.
Hey all! I found someone who's interested in trying to upgrade the RAM and eMMC of the pixel C, does anyone have broken tablets around that we can test with? Dead backlights, broken screens, whatever.
The plan is 8GB lpddr4 and 128GB eMMC 5.1, 256 possibly. eMMC should be easy, might only be able to do 6 or 4gb ram but going moonshot first because why not.
Who's with me? The tablet is still SO good especially with @michie putting out these incredible builds lately. We just need some extra dead ones to test with, pm me or post here if you're interested in helping out.
Update! 8GB RAM boots, now just need some help getting it recognized by the OS. Currently still showing 3gb in Android.
Funny, I would have expected the OS recognizes it on the spot

I also would've thought that, did some research and apparently the bootloader has device tree lists with hardware specs for the device (can define multiple profiles) and then passes that into to kernel during initialization if I understand correctly, just need somebody who actually understands the process lol
Any progress in the RAM upgrade project?
Haven't gotten a version of the DragonShield rom flashed yet, tried and failed. Will try again soon, @michie is done with school and someone said they were able to get it flashed successfully!
Found this apparently interesting TV box more or less recently. It's sold at a very attractive price, and can be bought in configurations with up to 8 GiB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, so I guess that it must come with a 64-bit operating system or firmware. And well, according to “REVIEW: X88 PRO 20 a low-cost Android TV-Box with SoC Rockchip RK3566 @ AndroidpcTV”, the TV box's firmware supports the arm64_v8a ABI, so 64-bit yes.
About this box I only found the thread “X88 pro 20 RK3566” opened close to a year ago, but it contains just a confusing question and no further information.
So, may some of you provide feedback about this TV box? It looks appealing, but of course I need to be able to root it; this is the single most important factor. Once rooted, any limitations in the stock ROM can be fixed and it also is fully customizable; just hope it is stable, of course.
Can someone provide information on rooting this box? Custom firmwares?
Thank you.

I have one, and the only method for rooting is installing another rom, I think the rom with root is the "hk1-rbox-r2-RK3566_DC_R2_HK5235F_11_20210705.1409", but the T95 Plus and H96 Max rom also works (but it doesn't have root), other thing you can do is flash a linux debian using the tutorial described in the forum t95plus.com, but sadly my x88 pro 20 is defective, every app I open (while using android) crashes after some time, and while in linux firefox keeps crashing, I don't know what's the issue, and since so few people have this box I can't find anyone else having this problem
Thanks for contributing, GamingSoldier. My interest in this box sort of vanished, mainly because I was just finding a good TV box solution to pair with an old good TV which I have lying around for someone else, and that someone else decided to buy a new inexpensive set… Of course, suffice to say these people must not be aware of the very limited Android system they are getting, or of how much better it could be.
Anyway, I digged on the subject of rooting without a custom recovery, and found the following very helpful video and article:
Extract Boot.Img Directly From Device Without Downloading Firmware @ DroidWin
This pretty much enables rooting of any device with minimum hassle.
Besides this, I'd love to know if the ROM of this device is stable and works well. I understand you are probably not going to say much in this respect, GamingSoldier; unless you get a new one, that is.

I don't know if the rom is stable, because my x88 has a hardware issue that keeps making apps crash, and it's not the software because I tested multiple ROMS and all of them cause this issue, about the magisk, I already know the app, but the magisk is unable to patch the rockchip boot.img
Well GamingSoldier, it's clear that you would need to get a new RK3566 X88 Pro 20 for testing its ROM, or at least fix the problem your box has if you are able. Speaking of which, did you open the box to check inside already? Because the problem could be something simple to fix like improper SoC cooling or some electronic component. After all, if the box doesn't works there's nothing to lose in doing so except a little bit of time and effort.
Concerning Magisk not being able to patch the RK3566 boot.img (sure?), I was going to say that you could say something in this respect in the Magisk thread, although I see it was closed long ago. So, the best thing to do is to inquire topjohnwu directly about Magisk's support for Rockchip SoCs, I guess. There's also topjohnwu's GitHub page with further information and etcetera.
And now that we're here I am not going to say that these boxes probably suck in certain ways, although I could. A working hardware matters, and proper working software matters too.
A tad off topic, very recently I've been checking the Orange Pi 5 Plus, for whatever reason. It uses a far more powerful and fully fledged Rockchip RK3588 SoC, and I see it somewhat below $200 (or even a hair below $180!) in 16 GiB of RAM configuration and including USB-C power supply. It clearly is something in another league, and very recently got new Android 12 images for SD card boot and fast 2280 M.2 NVMe storage boot; and it has accessible source code, which is very important developer wise.
It's a lot more money to spend at, but it also is a real Android computer which you can attach to TVs or monitors…
First thing I did after the apps started closing was to open the box and I added a bigger heatsink, I also tried increase the SOC voltage to see if it was a low voltage issue, and if I'm not mistaken I also tested the ram while I was using linux, and still, a paper weight...
After I discovered this issue and was unable to fix it I started to flash any RK3566 or RK3568 rom in to my x88 pro 20, most of them appear the logo screen, but are stuck in that image, I don't know much about these rom's, but might be just one thing or two preventing me from booting into the system
