Q: Suddenly my car charger (cigarette lighter plugged) is not working anymore. After 5 mins. my device stops charging..... is there anybody having the same problem and knows how to solve it?
If it's after a period of time maybe a battery contact issue?

If you've already read the sticky posts relating to car chargers and your (mystery brand) charger isn't one of those, then maybe your phones battery terminals and connectors need careful cleaning with a cotton bud moistened with contact cleaner or IPA. I had a problem with my mains charger ceasing to charge my TyTN II after a minute or two a long time ago and after cleaning as described, the problem went away. Be sure not to spray the contact cleaner or IPA onto the phone or battery, only the cotton bud/Q-tip and then gently rub that on the spring contacts and battery terminals. How does charging via mains adapter or PC USB port go?

It still could be a battery contact issue as voltages may differ slightly when using the car charger compared to the other forms of charging. As an example if the Kaiser is set to stop charging when the supply voltage drops below a certain value and the car chargers voltage is lower to start with (and fluctuates with normal driving/electrical usage) then that may explain things. It's well worth doing this cleaning every so often anyway as a matter of course so give it a try and see what happens.
Additionally, could heat be a factor eg if it's sitting on a hot dash or near heater vents (the device is designed to not recharge above certain temperatures)?

if you have any adapters that allow for another usb input, nice a headphone adapter, or the HTC Multifunction Audio Cable YC A300, a ycable or anything with a USB in, try that first.
if that doesn't work, take the unit into your retailer and they will give you a new (or refurbed) unit, as your USB port may have a pin or two out of whack.
This may be weird, but my tilt used to charge just fine from most USB chargers(car, AC, usb cords). One fine day it quit charging off most chargers except the official AC charger from AT&T. I tried to fiddle with the USB pins inside as one looked like it might be a bit bent/damaged. No luck.
However, yesterday I noticed that My Settings->System->Power->Advanced settings page had following option checked:
'When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC'.
Once I unchecked it, it started charging of PC USB cables (obviously), but strangely enough also charging from my car charger(s). Hope this works out for you or someone else...

It is probably because your normal USB pin 4 and 5 in the cable of your other chargers are not shorted to signal that there is no data connection. So your phone thinks it is connected to a PC (or a device which might send it data), hence not charging the battery according to that setting
I have a similar infuriating problem, i have had a MDA VArio III for over a year now, had an issue with my last one and had a replacement issued in October. Now i have used the Brodit active holder (ciggy lighter version) since day one over a year ago and wit the new MDA as well. now all of a sudden phone will not charge in the holder, borrowed a friends active cradle still no charge, used a no brand usb ciggy ligther charger and charges fine!!!!
When phoe n is placed in the holder orange charging light comes on but phone does not charge and the light goes out 5 mins later!!!
any ideas anyone???

Problem solved - Pin 5 on my phone was ever so slightly out of alignment, bent back into place and all is now well! strange it only affected the brodit holders, nothing else!
Car charger failure explained
I also experienced this same problem and actually broke my phones mini usb plug in frustration at lack of charging. Got it fixed again though
The reason for this problem has become apparent since my phone was repaired. In your car, like my car when the heater is switched on it will gradually heat up the cigarette lighter socket. My charger cable like yours has a thermal safety circuit built into it. So when the ciggy socket heats up the heat is transferred to the charger plug and breaks the elec charging circuit. You might see me driving around London with my charger plug hanging out of my window (to cool it down) on a Winter's day!!! Honk if you do.
The solution would be a cheaper charger without the thermal circuit built in. Go into Maplins or PC World and ask them for that..... They dont know what your talking about, because I have already tried.......! Good luck
You just need to make sure to enable your phone to charge when connected to PC.
Start->Setting->System->Power->
UN-CHECK the box that said "When device is turned on, DO NOT CHARGE the battery when connected to PC"
Hey people Ok basically I'm running PA at the moment. All was ok until I started playing baldurs gate while using a POGO cable. This made the tablet get VERY hot (105C it registered at one point). I think the battery is toast. It only works while plugged in. Sometimes it says 100% battery and will work without the charger but once you do anything load intensive it just flickers and dies. Would a new battery fix this or have I fried some circuitry. Apparently some capacitors dry up easily? Thanks guys
So yesterday, my old car's voltage regulator went haywire, and blew the car's main fuses after a couple of seconds.
I was charging my N4 during this incident with a cigarette lighter thingy and was holding aprox. 10% batttery charge.
The N4 is now 100% unresponsive. No amount of pressing any key combination for any amount of time does anything at all.
I have also tried charging it with a generic USB charger for a couple of hours, to no effect.
After that, I tried charging it with my computer's USB3 port for a couple of hours. This warmed up the phone a bit on the back, so it seems the ingoing current is doing something in there.
I am not getting a red LED indicator as most other people seem to be getting.
i fear something important was simply fried inside the phone, but I don't want to give up yet!
- Does anyone have any ideas what else I could try out?
- Are there maybe some small fuses inside the N4 that might be burned due to the voltage spike? Could I maybe replace or bridge them?
- could replacing the battery maybe revive the phone? If so, how could I test if getting a replacement battery will be worth it? Maybe temporarily wiring a compatible voltage to board?

Cool! I must have missed that the USB charging stuff is on a seperate board when i stepped through the N4 teardown!
Do you know if wireless charging goes through this board, too, or would it be using a separate circuit - i.e. should I head over to a friend's and test if I get SOME reaction from the phone when wirelessly charging?
Also: what worries me is that, as i mentioned, the phone's back is getting quite warm when charging it via USB3, so I am afraid that the charge is actually getting to the battery (vs. being stopped at a burnt fuse)
So there's lots of questions about bad battery life but haven't found my issue in searches - altho I suspect my issue is a factor for many to some degree.
N4 took a 4' to drop to concrete. Screen cracked. Replaced screen w/no problems. Ran fine for a while on stock 4.4.4. Lollipop comes OTA practically zero day and since the N4 isn't my primary phone I upgrade to play around. Shortly after 5.0, the battery drains and shuts the phone off. I charge it overnight, pull it off, battery is dead, phone shuts down. Will stay on and operate fine on wireless charger but powers down if not connected. Pop off the back again to make sure battery connector is snug and reassemble. Now I've got red light of death. Get Google logo and can boot to recovery options but it just cycles. Disassemble again and ultimately find that the battery pins from the mainboard and their little black housing have come off at some point. Try to solder it back on but there's chips on the back side and there's just no room to get the solder on and pins reconnected. Not w/my skills anyway.
My main question is, has anyone successfully reconnected that annoying mofo? Thinking about skipping the connectors and just soldering wire straight from the battery to the board. I don't see anything in that connector that would be a problem if absent, but any warnings I should know about? Other workarounds?
This is not mission critical, just principle/spite.

So were you ever able to get the connector solder back on? I think mine break because it was to hot when I was removing the battery. My nexus 4 shutdown on me, my battery was expanded. I was wondering why my screen was being pushed out. I wonder if Android 5.0.1 is causing phone to run to hot. Never did this with Android 4.4.4. Hope the connector can be fixed. Maybe I take it to a solder shop.

Not yet. I pulled the connector back off and cleaned everything up. I found that even very small gauge solder is too sloppy for the 4 small connections. Not to mention there's chips on the back side so you can't linger too long with heat. So my plan is to try again with some conductive ink and/or gel. If that doesn't work I'm just going to use wires to bridge the battery right to the board. Haven't had time to work on it but I'll follow up here when I do.
Did you get a replacement battery? Lithium batteries can swell because of overcharging. There are definitely more than a few N4 owners who had the same issue. A replacement battery won't solve that problem but it could be more tolerant of it, for a while - and depending on if it was "user error" or a fault in the phone's overcharging protection circuitry. Don't go to the trouble of having someone solder the connector back on with the old battery.
I had my N7 screen broken and the bezel damaged and i have had it lying around for about a year now. I finally replaced the screen and bezel on my tablet but it won't turn on any more. Looking for some info on how to troubleshoot what's the issue. What I've done so far is:
Checked that the battery seems to be fine and charged. Using a multi-meter on the battery connector gives a 4.15 V reading. The connector is properly connected (I get the same 4.15 V on the places where the battery connector socket meets the motherboard).
Changed the ribbon cable after finding out that the battery seems to not be at fault. This had no effect.
Tried to put back the old broken screen and bezel to see if maybe the new ones are damaged. Last time i used the tablet with the still broken screen it was able to power on and boot. Now after the fix using the old screen and bezel didn't work.
I have tried to hold the power button with or without holding the volume down button for various amounts of time with no effect.
As i see it now there are a couple of equally plausible things that could have gone wrong.
I have both damaged the new and old ribbon cable while changing the screens.
There is still something wrong with the power circuitry despite battery being at healthy 4.15 V.
The new bezel and screen that came from e-bay were damaged on arrival.
I have damaged something else while changing the screen.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot any of this?

Now some 24h later i'm getting 3.8 V. Which according to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195070 corresponds to battery being at about 60%. Could it be that the tablet is powering on but the screen stays off due to a damaged LCD ribbon cable? Is N7 in general able to boot up with a damaged LCD ribbon cable?
