Are they anyone yet who has changed the harddrive.
If you look at this link so are they after a recovery on the Pro version
https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload
Should i just put into the harddrive and use flashboot and flash the stock version of it.
Would be awsome get a tech video some explaine it before i get my device to Sweden in 9-14 days.
Want to replace 500GB to a 4TB SSHD.
Things are smaller than they might appear to be
Hi Taggen
I got my Shield Pro early in europe and it is a really very small box, a normal laptop drive will fit inside your suggested 4TB 3,5 inch drive is almost as big as the shield pro itself and won't fit.
Your suggested upgrade method should work although i am not really shure because instead of the 16GB version the pro seems to have all storage concentrated on the disk, so unplugging the drive might remove your custom recovery partition too.
It a rather unique design for a android box
And don't forget that transferring large amounts of files to the shield is very time consuming, and sometimes just stops when transferring many small files, a NAS or external usb3.0 drive is possibly a more practical option i think.
Enjoy your box!
Greetings
Jostiband

Bigger HDD
Well I took the pluge with attempting to replace the SSHD in the Shield. The device would only hit apx mode, expected that since the partitions are on the drive. Anyone found a way for reapply the image. I have attempted to look at the files system on a Linux box, but it reported the entire drive as unpartationed. Is that due to the bootloader being locked still?

What do you mean by apx mode? How did you go about attempting to use the bigger drive?
I'd do the following if you didn't:
Unlock the bootloader
Put your bigger hard drive in
Boot back into fastboot
flash factory images for the pro version

When I removed the Drive out of the device and placed in the SSD, the Shield would not boot. It would power on, and my Computer detected the shield as an APX device. I am unable to even see the device in the fastboot query. I have a sneaking suspecion that AndroidTV is installed on the 8GB SSD portion of the drive. The SSHD may have a modified firmware that allows the 8GB of smart cache to function as a fully fledged SSD independent of the HDD.

Have you see this, and played around with the NVflash utility at all?

Seems you'd need to get into APX mode with the HD installed, and use the utility to backup partition info... that's if it's not locked with a secure boot key.

I'm not sure. I'm new to it as well. It might be linked in of those articles.
Nvidia also uses an utility of the same name to flash their videocards. I'm not sure if it a universal utility that works for all their products... but I guess doesn't hurt to see if it can detect an nvidia shield. http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2498/nvflash-5-218-0-1-for-windows/ My guess is it will be different, and we'd need a version specific for the shield.

I wonder if they tried to plug in the old HD via a HD ribbon transfer cable (whatever you call that thing that's expensive and connects directly to the HD) to transfer everything over to the new SSD then attempt to boot it.
Anyone ever figure this out?

They have transfered all of the data basically directly. The device gets stuck in fastboot mode due to a probably custom firmware on the HDD.

Replace hard disk in Shield Android Tv
If you use Samsung magician for Samsung ssd and you remove the hard disk of the shield and connect it to a pc with the ssd or sshd you want. you can actually copy the shield hard disk onto the ssd or the sshd and after that just place the new drive onto the shield and it should do the work. Good luck. Contact me for further explanation. Samsung magician can actually copy the shield drive to the new Samsung ssd, cool :good:

I think it will do the work because Samsung magician copy your files to the ssd exactly the same way with all partition at the place where it should be. So I think it will do the work. Try it and give me a feedback on succès, you know that Samsung has 500go, 512go and 1To ssd and you just need the right Connexion cable to the pc and you good to go. Here one from amazon : StarTech.com USB3S2SAT3CB Carte Contrôleur USB 3 SATA III 6.0 Gigabit/s Noir. You need two like that. And you will be boosting your Shield Android Tv.:good:

After reflexion I think we have to perform a hard reset after changing the HD on the Shield Android Tv. Has it says it will take a bit longer. Here is the way to do it :
RESET USING NVIDIA BUTTON ON SHIELD
To access the fastboot menu:
Turn off your SHIELD.
Unplug the power cable from your SHIELD..
Connect your SHIELD to your PC/Mac/Linux machine's micro USB port.
Plug the power cable back into your SHIELD.
Wait 2 seconds, and then hold the NVIDIA button for 5-6 seconds until you see the fastboot menu on the display. After that yor drive will be set.
REINSTALL APPS AND GAMES AFTER RESETTING YOUR SHIELD
After you reset your SHIELD to factory settings, you need to reinstall any apps or games.
Go to the Google Play Store app .
Find the app or game, and select it.
In the window that opens, select Install.

You have to remove your old drive from the shield android tv and replace it by the new one and next reconnect the old drive by USB to the shield and then perform a hard reset. It might reinstalled the soft on the new drive hast it is in primary. :good: nothing to loose to try.

I checked your theory and...nothing.
When sshd connected through usb and same time target ssd is in nothing happening...no power at all - in usb ports. Power appears only when os system is starts booted normally bypassing NVIDIA logo or , but not on first stage when power cord is connected with device - so this idea can forget. Another I tried backup or clone with last build acronis 2016 5634 and - nothing. Acronis even not see at all when sshd is connected - didn't tried Samsung magician coz I don't believe - when even acronis can't. NATIV Disk management in Window 7 or 10 says when shield sshd is connected - disc is not initialized. Only one way I see here how to get swap hhd - to get know more about "apx mode - how to prepare hhd from zero" - this when you connecting shield without sshd in it and Windows call for apx driver...

The thing you should do is try samsung magician and check if he can see the sshd of the shield normally he will do because you can choose the source HD before cloning the drive but for the target HD drive it must be a ssd Samsung or maybe a Samsung HD drive. What about trying to hard reset physically the shield and the new HD ? Do you still get access to the recovery ? Finally last though we might maybe need a same type of drive then the one in the shield. Only the size will be different. Tell me what you try.

Hi there,
I own a Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro LTE and wish very much to have Win10 on my device. For me it does not matter if it is dual-boot or single-partitioned, even if the last is prefered. Is there any chance to get that ? Someone has experience to it ? Sadly Google and forums search didnt gave me the results I wished for, maybe I just missed them. However I would appreciate any kind of help. I found some manuals on how to for the Tab 2, but still I would like some kind of feedback before I try on my own.
Basically I would start to create a bootable pendrive and plug it to my device and go through the standart install routine overwriting the full partition. I am just not sure if there is any kind of blockage, with which I'll mess up my device.
Alternatively I could connect my Lenovo device to my PC and change partition size, so that I get two partitions for dual-boot, boot with the pendrive and install than Win10 on the second partition.
What do you think ? Experience ? Suggestions and ideas ?
Thanks very much in advance.
I'd like to do this also but am concerned about destroying any Android system partitions which might block a full recovery in the event of disaster. Anybody recommend a utility to create a complete drive image before installing W10?
Hi
I found this
youtube. com/watch?v=vvw9CMMlDJ4
and this version of the tablet windows
youtube. com/watch?v=cb8Yt89g4Yw
Someone has done?
Kind regards
Those ChangemySoftware program is a fake. Forget that. Its just scam to make you participate in a survey.
The second video shows a device, in which the uefi allows a boot from usb, which the LT3P doesnt allow, sadly.
And thats where I am stucked. I want to boot from my pendrive, but the uefi boot menu does not accept usb devices. So I need a way around, which I couldnt find yet. Somehow an enforced usb boot from a custom recovery or from android itself. Anyone an idea ?
Any progress? I want to make double boot windows + android on my Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro 10 LTE.
Some news ???
Yes please I would like to do this too with my rooted yoga tab 3 pro 4go ! To have dual boot on this must be soo cool.:good:
Uh, I have the bootable drive ready and connected. And I'm prepared for all the risks. But I just don't know how to instruct my tablet to boot from the flash drive.. someone please tell me if you know. Thanks
Hello, my name is Marc-Yvan from Douala, Cameroon and I will tell you the whole story about how I successfully unbrick my Android Tablet. My aim is to share with you some tips about how to recover from a desperate situation of having an unusable tablet.
How I hard-bricked my Tablet:
First of all, let me tell you how I hard-bricked my beloved tablet after trying to unlock it from its original network lock. I got this tablet from a relative who live in USA but it was unfortunately network locked to the AT&T network. So I tried to unlock it by multiple means (by myself). I found a cracked software called “Octopus for Samsung” who was said able to unlock any kind of Samsung phones/tablet. When I tried to unlock my Tablet, the software starts the work and then told me that the device will turn off and turn on after a short time. But the Tablet did not turn on anymore and I spend 02 months trying to bring it back from the grave.
Definition:
Let me explain to you what is called a hard-bricked smartphone/tablet. It’s simply a smartphone/tablet which is unusable, doesn’t turn on (desperate black screen) and doesn’t react to any stimulation. But you have to know that these hard-bricked devices are displayed as unrecognized devices when plugged onto a computer. So a hard-bricked device is not a physically damaged device but is a sort of hardly logically damaged device which cannot boot at all and is not recognized by common flash tools such as Odin, etc.
How I unbricked my tablet:
Lucky Context (GOD’s help):
Fortunately, GOD helps me by guiding me through this situation in order to recover from it in a miraculous manner. I will explain it to you in a couple of points:
1- My Tablet was rooted before the incident. I did it by using an application found in play store: “Kingroot.apk”.
2- My Tablet was equipped with some tools like “Es explorer” and “Terminal Emulator”. You will understand how it fortunately helped me before the incident.
3- The real hand of GOD: In my quest of finding a mean to network unlock my tablet, I tried a method which was asking to save some partitions of the eMMC (A kind of processor memory. Sorry but I’m not an expert ). So I saved it to the memory of my Tablet and then transfered it to a folder in my computer (By using command lines with “Terminal Emulator”). This actually helped me after to revive my tablet.
Advice N° 1 (Prevention)
Before trying to explore the whole abilities of your Tablet by flashing it or trying to network unlock it; Do a backup of the primary boot partition of your eMMC by executing this command in the “Terminal Emulator” of your rooted device:
cat /dev/block/mmcblk0> sdcard/mmcblk0.img
Be careful, this command could save the life of your beloved Tablet. This command will actually copy the primary boot partition of your eMMC in a disk image which has the same name. So you have to keep that disk image in a safe place such as your computer or an external removable disk.
Advice N° 2 (Resolution)
The Story:
In my desperate actions trying to revive my hard-bricked tablet, I read tremendous forum posts and tried countless methods. Which lead me to install a new OS in my computer. It was actually Linux Ubuntu 16.4. I found a method which told me to try to write some kind of partitions images down to an SDCard to boot my Tablet with. But the partitions images proposed by the method didn’t succeed in recovering my Tablet. So some days later, when I turn on my computer, I fortunately found a file opened; it was the primary boot partition image file of my tablet that I saved before the incident (The real hand of GOD). So I decided (Inspired by the Holy Spirit) to try the previous method with the original boot partition image file of my tablet.
The Tip:
You will need an SDCard with a correct format (FAT32) and size (16Gb or 32Gb). You will also need to work in a Linux command line terminal. To write the boot partition image in your SDCard you will have to execute this command line:
sudo dd if=mmcblk0.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1024k status=progress
Note: The sd card may not be sdb though. In order to confirm, before writing, browse to /Dev and look at the properties of sdb to ensure it is in fact there (it might be sda, sdb, sdc, etc...). You can also try to unplug and then plug the SDCard to see the changes.
The Last Step (Eureka!!!)
The last step is just to insert the SDCard into the slot of your Hard-Bricked device, Turn it on and then feel its vibration that will let you know that your mission is completed. Your device is alive again.
Conclusion
The only conclusion that I can give is to NEVER GIVE UP when you are trying to solve a problem. You can be closer to the solution than you think.
Good Luck!
What are the chances you would upload the boot partition for me?
I hard bricked mine also, but unfortunately I didn't make a backup. Would you be kind enough to upload the bin file you dumped? I've looked everywhere and no one seems to have an emmc dump of this thing. lol
Hi, I have been struggling for a week trying to flash either Ubuntu or L4T on my TV Pro to use it as a CUDA machine.
I think I read most of relevant threads in general discussion especially yahoo's L4T rootfs thread, jagger11's Ubuntu Utopic thread and even Tilator's SSD migration thread (which looked too scary to give it a try myself).
I did every combination of options I have, but none of those methods worked.
I could do everything until I do
Code:
sudo fastboot boot boot.img
There is no error message, but after boot it loads just like Android TV instead of loading to Ubuntu or L4T.
I actually saw the ubuntu code running on rootfs methods (both SD card and USB), but it just comes back to Android TV.
During the process I already permanently bricked one TV 2017 and also bricked TV Pro several times by flashing wrong dtb but was able to recover with hardware reboot. (Same thing happened on both TV 2017 and Pro)
Now my suspicion is, is any of those methods doesn't work in the latest SW version anymore?
My TV Pro's version spec is as follows:
Pro model #: P2571
Version: 7.0 (I assume this is Android version for Nougat)
Kernel version: 3.10.96+
Build: NRD90M.2427173_1038.2788
SW version: 6.3 (24.32.406.472)
Also, I wasn't able to try rootfs on TV Pro's internal partition because Ubuntu couldn't read the device at all (except reading the shared storage). I know one of those threads I read someone (I think it was Tilator) mentioned using Photorec to read the partition, so I even tried that but no luck.
Hope someone guide me through this. Thanks,
Hey guys,
I build a new pc, first new build in 20 years.
I’m using an ASUs tug gaming x670e plus WiFi motherboard with and 7800x3d cpu.
I’m stuck with the windows installation from usb.
First attempt I used a SanDisk 8gb stick and windows media creator. That’s right load, but looking back that was probably because of bios settings.
second attempt I used a leef 16gb stick. Art the verify stage at 99% it failed.
Third attempt save stick same method created the usb successfully. Had to pay around a lot with bios settings to get the stick seen as bootable. But during the windows installation it reported a file inaccessible or missing. Soo I put the stick in another machine to check but the file in question was there.
Soo I tried again, but now it cannot start up from the usb stick.
I’m in progress of creating an iso usb using the 8gb SanDisk drive, but I think I’m missing something significant.
I’ve attached my bios settings for booting.
If anyone can give some clarification, that would be greatly appreciated! If I can’t die this tonight I’ll bring it in a shop this weekend (just for a windows installation, sigh)
This... happy hunting.
Make a cloned copy of the disk once loaded and configured but before adding data, antivirus or trashware with Acronis to a spare hdd for easy OS restore.
*Redundantly backup critical data, first*
Separate data drives + OS drive are best plus the backup drives that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC.
Managed to get an install.
Had to change a few bios settings (apparently one of the videos I watched for the right bios settings was the exact opposite of what was needed). Agassi used an iso stick.
That seemed to do the trick.
Thanks for the suggestions. It’s much appreciated.
I managed to get things installed. My issues were a combination of bad luck with my usb drives (and how the bootable stick was generated), as well as some poor advice on YouTube that told me the opposite of what was needed.
I also had problems obtaining an activation key legally, but that got resolved as well, so I finally managed to get my pc up and running.
Thanks again for the suggestions!
