Right now it is at 1hz, which is way to slow for a couple applications I use. Is there any way to raise it to 5hz or higher?

General...
I'm going to have to agree that this is most directly related to android development. Definitely more relevant to development than general.
Second that agreement. Development question for sure.

That's what I was thinking since you would be modifying part of the android OS...
Anyways. I heard it was possible to do, I just have no clue how. I'm sure a lot of people would like it if someone wrote an app that could change the gps polling rate.

How do you know what the highest GPS refresh rate is?

I know the default is 1Hz from the app I downloaded that tell you the gps polling rate. External bluetooth GPS receivers are 5hz and up, but the incredible doesn't support bluetooth GPS.
Taking a look at the SDK which is what someone would be using to access the GPS via a program, it appears you can set the minTime in milliseconds. But there is a warning that says:
Background services should be careful about setting a sufficiently high minTime so that the device doesn't consume too much power by keeping the GPS or wireless radios on all the time. In particular, values under 60000ms are not recommended.

However, that doesn't mean the GPS itself is polling that fast, that is how fast you are asking for what the GPS currently has. There does not appear to be a way to change the GPS polling itself.
I'm guessing this is set by the hardware and not changeable and is set by the mfg of the device. Most likely not nearly as customizable as some GPS units you can access via bluetooth or USB device.
Power is a big limiting factor.
Someone with some actual development experience might be able to provide more info on this...
Well, If it can't be changed onboard, then maybe something to make the incredible work with bluetooth GPS devices?
Pure GPS can only give you a new location once a second. To get faster updates than that you need to blend the solution with something like an Inertial Navigation System.

Yeah, what he said. Besides, if the GPS rate is good enough for the Speedo programs on the market, how could 1hz not be fast enough
I'm pretty sure GPS can sample much more than once per second. I have a pretty expensive Trimble unit at school for an autonomous bot and it allows for up to 20Hz sampling in standalone mode.
bumpity bump.
Hello,
I just received my phone last night, got everything set up and started playing one of my games (Simcity)
Right from the get go it has been very choppy, severely affecting the game play.
Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas what could be causing it? Any ideas on how to fix it?
It is a Nexus 6p 32GB, everything is stock.
Thanks,
Relaxedcrazyman
May be more of an Android Marshmallow issue than anything else, best to reach out to the developer for their opinion though.
thanks, i sent an email to their support.
just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the issue. i am hoping that others are having the issue and not that i have a defective device...

great, thanks for confirming! hopefully they resolve it soon, i want to keep playing the way it was!
On my SGS4 Active the game Simcity Buildit is choppy, too. It has something to do with Google Play. When logging out of Google Play from within the game it suddenly runs perfectly smooth.

damn, i was hoping it was that easy. tried logging out. it is still choppy especially when trying to buy items at other cities.
Switching cities
I get irritated when I have to switch between cities after going to trade building, it takes unusually long. Pissed off with Nexus 6p!
Import this little profile here to tasker
PLEASE TRY IT WITH QHD
Follow the steps within profile
Beta 2 will theorically will let you run strictly on 60hz and will run you back to 120 whenever you open an app that you desire to be refreshing at 120
Needed
Tasker
Patient
Knowledge on how to run adb commands until there's root.
If it isn't being force on let's say Gmaps but it is set to 120hz most likely it will drop down to 60 to save battery. And this can happen with other apps as well.
Please enjoy and report back.

Does it even run smoothly on pixels? It never ran smoothly on any of my phones, especially when zooming out during navigation, pathetic.
Has anyone successfully used this yet? I'm more interested in tying it to the power mode like high performance or optimized. Is that possible?

Yes it runs smoothly on pixel 4
I'm using this and working very well. Running all apps besides video playback apps and gmaps at 120hz.
Takes a second or 2 for refresh rate to change but I think this is a great idea in general, app controllable refresh rate

Damn this is what I wanted... I've never had tasker and don't know how to use it and don't want to buy it just to test something to find out it doesn't work at the end. Can you please test if the video app kodi can be run at 120hz please?

It should
Download the profile and import to tasker
Pick which apps you want to run in each and you're good to go.
That being said I installed kodi and it seems like 120hz.
Easy to tell 120 from 60.
I don't think worth running video playback apps in 120 as video won't run in 120 anyway.
I don't understand how to import this into Tasker. When I click on the link from my phone, it doesn't give me the option to open it with Tasker. Is there any way you can post the actual file here?

When you click link in thread, click import and then click yes, this should open in tasker. Then you click on choose apps and pick which apps to run in 120 and rest go to 60.
You have installed tasker right?
I don't think this is working at all for me. There's a noticeable difference when I enable/disable the setting manually regardless of whether the Tasker profile is applying (which it says it is).

Someone said it does and they're wrong. It seems to run at about 15-30fps, just verified on my Pixel 4XL.
Places where this is evident are any in-app animations, for example if you tap on your blue location dot, it will animate to fill the screen with blue. Or if you search a location and tap its card, it will animate to pull the card up. Or you can just fling the map around. There's no way anybody with decent vision can confuse this with 60fps let along 120fps.

Hi Kev,
first of all thank you for the thread's and tasker profile regarding the 120Hz tingz!
The 120Hz experience on the S20 line imho is ULTRA disappointing!
Not the Display itself but more the way stupid Sammy implemented it Software wise.
First disappointment, the limitation of only FHD+
but this was known even before the S20 line was officially announced so I actively decided to look pass that. Even though most people say FHD+ is enough and you don't see any pixels or whatever, I have to say coming from a S10 with a smaller display and and higher dpi, I do notice how much softer the image quality on the S20+ is! It's noticeably less sharp.
The Second disappointment no one warned me about is the fact that half of the apps revert back to 60Hz!!!
No one told me this! and I ****ing hate this. Maybe I was naive, maybe it's the fact that I had no experience with a phone that has a high refresh rate display, but to my understanding if I set my phones display to 120Hz, everything, the UI and all apps would be displayed @*120Hz! But no! this already is like on the leaked Firmware Screenshot wich shows the "Dynamic" option in the middle! it's not locked.
Just shows again how important root is. The ability to take control of the device you own and not giving control to stupid Sammy dev's...
Your method with tasker works fine, but I had no experience with tasker prior and I only using it during it's trial period. After the trial ends, I'm not going to buy the full version.
Is there maybe a adb command that can globally set the phone to a fixed 120Hz refresh rate? Since I don't need a per app selection.
again thank you for this tasker profile so far.
Thanks for the profile! But there is one issue: it's works only once for my S20, then after launching few apps refresh rate drops to 60Hz ((( Even rebooting my phone doesn't help (
Is anybody else experiencing scrolling issues on their OnePlus 8 Pro?
I have noticed what feels like the touch input not being recognised so when scrolling up or down a page it just stops responding. At first I thought this was palm rejection related but it is not.
It is likely software but I am worried it could be hardware. Anybody else?
Yes, theres a few threads on here and in the OP community about it. No idea whether it's soft or hardware [emoji1745]
Sent from my IN2023 using Tapatalk
Sorry I did search on scrolling and got no results. I'll take a look. I purchased mine from Amazon so if there is any sense of it being hardware I'd probably return it while I still can.
Yes I have had this happen almost everyday I put to sleep and put back on.. loving the device for most part but that and then wifi calling not working ugh.
Ditto on the lack of response. Thought it was Palm rejection or even one of the Facebook chat bubbles overlaid on the screen while in chrome causing overlay issues.
Factory reset should fix

Are you on QHD or FHD, I switched to QHD and then back to FHD I had this issue. Rebooted whilst still on FHD and it's fine..
There is no benefit to be to use QHD, it's a 6" screen not 60"
Switch to FHD then reboot and test, should be fine.
Had this issue myself (chrome and youtube) Im using FHD only. Reboot fixed it tho

I'm getting this while using Opera browser and using certain apps, it gets really 'sticky' scrolling if I leave the app it's fine but then comes back.
Restart works for awhile, do guys suggest a factory reset?
@wilpang I'm experiencing similar behavior. I suspect the latest update of webview to have a negative impact on this behavior. It seems generally an issue with HTML5 apps but I may be mistaken.

You compare resolutions of devices as if you sit the same distance awayfrom a phone and a television. I guess you can do what you want but the higher resolution in phones is because you are much closer. So duh, anybody can tell a resolution difference when you're that close.

Where did you get 10.5.10?
Oxygen updater doesn't show any newer versions.

I was able to update to 10.5.9 EU and will check to see if this fixed it.

Wtf are you on about???? It's a six inch screen. You cannot tell the difference between FHD and QHD, don't talk crap by saying you can.
Even if it's marginaly sharper to the eye, it does not merit the loss in battery life.
There TV analogy has nothing to do with how far your are from it, you said that not me.
Jesus.
The current update for the One Plus 8 Pro's changelog has stated to improve the performance by apps dropping down from 120Hz to 75Hz. Is it true for everyone with the latest update? I think it should force stay at 120Hz for a overall excellent experience.

No - it was real. Got extensive help on telegram, cleaned some things - and all is good.
One test is wrong, so Google ufo test works and shows 120.
Oh ok so it really was on 60?
