Best Samsung Tab model for stable LineageOS OS - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

What's the most recent Samsung Tab A model that LineageOS can be flashed to?
Is it still the T500 2020 model?

FYI:
[GSI][12] Unofficial LineageOS 19 SM-X200
Instructions: Flash LineageOS for tab a8 sm-x200 Format data from TWRP. And wipe all partitions, then just reboot into fastboot and flash your system image fastboot flash system system.img (system being lineage or google gsi or whatever) then...

Are there still issues with inverted Video for SM-X200 though?

I don't know, since I don't own this tab. In the mentioned thread there was no complaint about video issues, but on responsiveness.
So the X200 is in fact the newest A model which runs Lineage, but the ROM seems to be not fully matured, to offer a joyful experience...

If you read the OP, it still show the video problem with LOS 20 but not with 19.1. I've been waiting for some time for a fix before upgrading to 20.

It's not an unofficial build of LineageOS. It's just some stuff he managed to compile from my sources. I'd rather not use it as NFC is horribly broken.

Oh man I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of that. I just flashed it yesterday poked around a bit and went back to screw'd. I just wanted to see if it was close to the release notes. It was a build from a few days ago. Its the one named unofficial. Lineage.15.1 on afh ..can't wait for your build though

@Elektroschmock Is there any place where we can track the development progress of LOS 15.1 for the Nexus 6? I know that there's the LOS Gerrit, but for those of us who don't really know what work needs put in to porting Android to an officially-unsupported device, it isn't very revealing.
And of course, thanks for all the time and hard work you put in to keeping our shamus alive!
Hi,
Installed Lineage 15.1 Beta 3 with open GApps Arm /8.1 /Stock.
1. Dialer there is no Graphic when somebody calls, no way to pick up or hang down the phone.
For the workaround I used is , the ON, OFF button and volume control to operate the phone.
2. Lock screen when playing Music is freezing.
workaround, turned off Musik Visualisierung.
thats so far all.
Thanks for All the work.

For #1 make sure you have the phone app set as the default Settings>Apps>Configure Apps>Phone App (might be slightly different for 8.1)

Is there root available to 15.1? Thanks!
There is a Howto on lineageroms but I found that coming from a rooted 14.1, SuperSU from the Playstore does the trick much easier.
The 14.1 addonsu definitely did not work for me.

First off, hats off to the LineageOS devs for this ROM. Everything works, but there are some bugs
1. The call history is perpetually empty, it does not keep track of call history (at least on my device)
2. The wifi gets selective about apps with internet access when I am connected for long enough, whatsapp and other IM apps stop working and require a restart.
3. The bluetooth as well has some issues. Bluetooth audio works perfectly as well as bluetooth LE but file transfers (at least for me) require a restart.
This is what I did about the twrp password problem. I used a mixture of ideas from the kind people here. Hooked N6 to my laptop with adb functional in developer settings. I had all the files in a folder on the laptop desktop. Booted to recovery. I did a full wipe including storage. I formatted data like many suggested. This is an important next step. Reboot recovery to verify the password is not required. I did and password request was gone. My phone storage now showed on my PC with twrp booted. I created a download folder on my phone and transferred Lineage 15,
Gapps, and magisk. Rebooted recovery one more time to verify password was gone and files were available. Installed all and rebooted system and all is well. Thanks everyone for the guidance.
Think were April Screwed.... No 15.1 LOS Update as of 4/9
April Screwed!
Guess the crappy April Fools joke goes a step further, apparently they did even bother with the Vendor key for the image they uploaded as a joke and I suspect there will be no official LOS 15.1 support for the Nexus 6. I was hoping to see a weekly update with at least that fixed, the fact that I don't makes me wonder if we are abandoned by LOS.
P.S. Ya that TWRP password crap and the encryption breakage was total BS as well.

Best stable ROM?

Hi all,
Sorry, I never know whether I should post this kind of thing in the General section or Troubleshooting...
I'm looking for up-to-date advice. What, in your opinion, is the most stable and smooth custom rom available. I'm looking for something as recent as possible, preferably Nougat +, but could be MM if necessary.
The phone is going to be used by my mother-in-law so doesn't need any fancy customization, just reliability and performance.
Thanks!! :good:

Thanks for that. I presume I can find that rom on xda?
--------------
Is it this Lineage rom?:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/development/rom-t3657384
Yup thats it
I used munjenis los 14.1 and switched to AICP 13.1 Oreo. It has up to date patches and is in my opinion currently the best up to date rom. Camera is also fine for me.
hi all! i tried oreo yesterday and all of google (esp. play store & play services) didn't work. tried older versions via apk but no success. without play store makes no sense. anyone an idea why it works for jho55 but not for me (d5503)? and jho55, why did you switch; only for newer version or other reasons? could you give me d/l link to the exact aicp rom u used? at aicp rom it says that there is an issue with oreo on z1c and video recording; does that work on your device? thx&greets, volkbaad
EDIT: found out myself now that i need gapps, too in order to take benefit of google. i work a lot on pc's but up to now not on android, esp. custom roms. it's a bit confusing at first sight; but i'm learning...
It is very important that you follow the instructions posted in the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/so...development/rom-aicp-13-1-o8-1-amami-t3755554
I am using the rom because I want to have the newest security updates, a fresh android, root access(adblock, firewall). Video recording is working for me.

IT WORKS!!!
At first try I used GApps "super" (14.5.81; 900 MB) and guess I didn't clear all cache and data. This obviously ended up in a mess with old Google Play files and new OS. Second time I cleared system, data, cache and dalvik cache before flashing new ROM, rebooted into normal OS and back into (TWRP) recovery before I flashed GApps "micro" (14.8.xx; 300 MB). "Super" and "mini" had some apps which were unfunctional; and if included in package you cannot uninstall and manually reinstall them, so smaller GApps version is safer.
This time the new install became functional w/o any problem. There was even no need to search and installe older version of GApps, as reported elsewhere.
Maybe this is helpful for other Z1C owners. In the thread mentioned above seemingly not every necessary detail is mentioned.
I think the instructions are pretty straight forward from there it says "How to flash:".
I'm not decided yet. For me it's either AICP 13.1 (oreo) or 115ek's LineageOS 15.1 (Oreo). Both are very stable and suitable for every day useage. And they are maintained in regards to security updates
Pro AICP: some really nice features and add-ons (e.g. theming, nice recent apps solutions, extended phone settings and customizations etc.). Together with some optimzing apps (LSpeed, SysConfigPatcher) battery consumption is ok
Pro LOS 15.1: in my opinion a tad faster and and more efficient in reagrds to battery consumption; rather reduced, but I kind of like that
munjeni's LOS version is great (had that running for over a year) but a bit aged now
I've had LOS 14.1 installed for a while and it seems pretty good, however it seems to have some significant bugs. The big one is that Google Duo doesn't work properly- the mic doesn't work so calls are pointless. Dues anyone else have this problem? Or can anyone give me a ROM where Duo definitely works?
Mic volume in general is pretty quiet.

GSIs and Treble

Hey!
Just wondering if anyone has attempted to flash a GSI on to their Tab S5E. I've got the LTE variant and I'm wondering if GSIs could fill the rom gap (as the wifi variant roms don't have functioning WiFi on the LTE variant)
I've had a brief look at similar samsung devices (similar in the sense that they're running roughly the same platform - SD675) and they seem to be nearly fully functioning, with some minor bugs.
Just as a bit of an update, I was able to get a 9.0 GSI to boot, however, have not had any luck as of yet to get a 10 GSI booting on the Tab S5E LTE

[GUIDE] Fix fingerprint

Because many users are repeatedly asking this and everyone needs to answer again and again, I write it up here:
This is only true for Oreo and later Custom ROMs! For nougat refer to post #3 by @TheFixItMan (thanks for the tip that users still use nougat )
You can choose between this ways (doing both is wasted time!)
- Have stock Oreo installed before flashing your ROM (for most users not an option because they already have the issue)
- Flash https://github.com/nift4/nift4.github.io/releases/tag/cedric-fp-fix over your existing custom ROM
Yes, it's so easy
do you have the fix for Lineage os 14.1, i tried this ine didn't work for me. :s

Download stock nougat firmware and flash just the following two parts
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
For fingerprint to work you need to have a base stock firmware that matches the base of the rom you are using - so in the case of lineage 14.1 that is nougat
The zip file in the op contains oero files so is for people who never bothered flashing oero firmware when they flashed an oero based custom rom
OP should explain what the zip file does (flashes the two files I've mentioned but from oero firmware) to help people understand the issue

Hi,
I have a motog5 xt1676.
I was on Nougat and I updated to Carbon Rom (after trying with lineage 17, same issue) and i have to choices:
-Doing nothing and people can hear me when i am in speakerphone but the fingerprint doesn't work.
-I patch with the first link for orea then the fingerprint work but people can't hear me when i'm in speakerphone.
Patching with nougat files does nothing...
Is there a way to edit the fix or to make a fix myself avoiding the speaker issue ?
I though to change build.prop or a way to change the way sound is mixed during call but i did'nt test changing all lines.
Do you have an other idea ?
A fix for pie ? ( Carbon is Pie when Pie is cooked too much time =D )
Thank you,
Pierre Archer

As explained
If your stock rom firmware is nougat I suggest updating it to oreo to use pie custom rom
Read my post above (post number three) for full explaination
Any other issues is probably a rom issue - I don't even think carbon rom is actively supported for this device. Use lineageos/Mint os from dev section

Sorry, I midunderstood, I understand better now.
Then installing oreo stock ROM add more "compatibility files" to link with a pie ROM from nougat.
Lineage os is not officially supported on motog5 device, thats why i looked for carbon. But the unofficial lineage os for motog5 look like as frequently updated as "official" carbon rom. I dont know if Carbon updates are caring of hardware details and if they are released without real adaptation. Lineage os pay probably more attention to hardware because motog5 is not officially supported by lineage... Idk...

Don't be concerned too much about the terms official and unofficial
Nearly all lineageos roms will start off as unofficial - it's users who build it. It's only when they are submitted to lineageos and they add it to their build server it becomes official but its the same device tree.
The only reason the lineage os rom has not been made official is because the camera is not fully working like it is in stock rom so it doesn't meet the criteria to be submitted

Working ROM for Markw in late 2021?

Hi,
As of December 2021, is there an alternative ROM that would reliably work for Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime?
I am asking because the standard MIUI ROM has not been updated for years and I am having quite a few glitches - I think, because of that. For example, Vivaldi browser and Fairemail frequently crash, as well as some other programs.
I am looking for something that would, really, just work, hardware- and software-wise. With no bugs. At least with no serious bugs.
My understanding is that the choice is not wide. Please report if you have tested a ROM that works for Redmi 4 Prime in late 2021. I don't want to throw away this phone.
I'm using the unofficial CrDroid by redispade and it's amazing. Best ROM i've used, everything works just fine except that I couldn't get device encryption working properly but if you don't need it it's a great Android 10 ROM.
Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-unofficial-13-07-2020-crdroid-6-8-10-0-markw.4020259/
sadly there don't seem to be any recent updates/roms for our cool markw

That's the thing. I need encryption to keep my data safe.
I wonder if Lineage OS has any encryption issues. I read that when the drive is encrypted, you cannot use fingerprint unblocking. Perhaps there are issues with encryption itself, too.
Thanks for the reply though.
In my opinion, actually, the best Rom out there is lineage 17.1, in terms of stability, whole functionality and amazing battery backup, poor about the feature just in line with lineage tradition (just the possibility to reboot or power off in notification panel).
Of course the encryption make problematic the fingerprint recognition, as each interesting cusrom for Markw!
Sorry for my English.

In my experience, nowadays, the 17 is more stable to 18 (every @ShihabZzz works is absolute accurate). You can try also mokee 9 or 10 and i suggest you orange fox recovery, the last one official 10.1 to try encryption (sorry but i never used encryption in my devices!)

Thanks, Autokoise. I have asked to confirm if the bug disappeared in the newer LOS versions.
I am using ported miui rom NSA based on miui eu.I am happy with it.It is android 9.I have no major bugs but I don't use encryption sao I can't tell you nothing about it.I tried many roms.Crdroid ,arrowos ,havoc lineage os bit I prefer ported miui.It is so sad that markw never get official android version update.
