Just installed a new headset with Android 10.0 and trying to get my head around how to use it. Got my head around Windows when it first came out and fine with that but must admit all the Android talk loses me a bit.
So.... Unit installed (just about) and running fine, have all the extras to add but just want to take it step by step. Bit disappointed that some of the things it said it can do, after reading up, it cannot. Also some things I thought would be basics are not included. Here are an example of each...
1. Netflix - Unit is shown as being able to view Youtube and Netflix. After not seeing them on there immediately I do some research online on how to find Google Play on unit and if it's as easy to download apps on there as it is on phone, only to find out what you can download is limited and mostly radio stations to be honest. Then I dig a bit deeper and find I actually have Youtube installed??
2. Copying Files From Phone - I foolishly assumed that there would be some sort of file manager that would be able to access phone once connected but it appears not. This seems ridiculous, unless I'm missing something?? Am I imagining it but although I have a device plugged in to get a file off of it (say image or video) I have to export that file to TF/USB then plug that in and read from it??
I've read people talk about 'rooting' their phones but this is not a road I want to go down as don't know enough and don't really want to learn tbh. Have APK installer in unit and it would seem that's how Youtube has come about, with a few other apps. From what I get and APK is a non Google app, is that right? As there are APK apps installed can I just download others like Netflix and Sky Go etc, and just install these straight onto unit or does everything have to go through Android Auto? (I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+). Have just downloaded AAAD and Screen2auto, managed to find it on unit and get it to work to a point but once you select app the screen loses control and you're back to using the phone. Also once screen times out on phone so it does on unit. These are probably just settings that need adjusting as have only just played with it for 5 minutes.
Basically I'm really disappointed in how the 2 devices communicate with each other and am trying to establish if it's me expecting to much or just lacking in knowledge. I was expecting to be able to use the unit as an individual device with whatever apps i wanted to put on it, and read from anything plugged in, or access and run whatever was on my phone. It seems this is nothing like that or am I completely missing something???
Any feedback appreciated and thanks for reading.
Nobody here that can point a beginner in the right direction?
Is unit Android auto or Chinese origin android head unit?
If chinese origin, incorrect forum, but post details from Android system information including MCU version to get post moved to appropriate forum
As far as I know it's Android Auto? It's running Android 10.0 and connects to phone via Android Auto but it is an Erisin Chinese unit. Model ES8746B to be exact.
Not Android-auto, requested moderator move to Android Head-Units forum.

If anyone could help tell me more about this unit and how I can get out of this software lock I'm in. It has something that does not allow me to access the droid menus at all with the exception of a limited old cheap menu I'm familiar with. I've seen it on the old $5 net10 phones. Here's the unit I bought and here are the menus I have access to and the listing of the exact same unit stating 5.1.1 etc. etc.
I would like to update it to 6.0 or even a cleaner 5.1.1 I tried a JOYING 5.1.1 but I couldn't get it to find the update. I need to get this unit running on something I can work with. I can not pick which apps to boot with, to default wifi to on my to my hotspot, can not change the radio to have the "next" botton on SWC change to next preset and it's driving me insane.
Please don't think I haven't looked around for tens of hours.

Google solely for the mcu. I have a bosion hu (awesome hu, terrible tech support) but it had same mcu as a brand with regular updates and I just updated os and mcu without a problem.
Thanks Toebab,
I've searched every combo of every version of mcu and arm and anything else I've been able to find. I'm going to run a hardware info app tomorrow. I'm only posting this because I've poured my heart out already. I do have a file explorer I'm going to try and further google on.
Hi guys, I'm pretty new around here but am seeking some advice on how to get Android Auto running on my headunit.
I recently purchased an Xtrons ICE/HU/TA707PL (running android 7.0), so far I've been mostly pleased with it however what I would really like to see it do is to run Android Auto (the standalone app built for driving by Google from Google Play, not the plug 'n play with a phone setup thats common on many new cars).
The first issue I encountered was when I tried to download it from Google Play it says its incompatible, so I tried to get an APK to which it is still incompatible. I then tried to root the device but couldn't seem to get that to work either although I'm not sure how helpful that would have been.
I've come to a bit of a standstill. Is it really impossible to get a copy of android auto to run on an android headunit? Why is there this compatibility issue and is there anyway to resolve it?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Google requires an actual phone to run it, and/or has to be connected with an actual phone to an "authorized" device for Android Auto. It's never going to work on your Xtrons or any tablet or Android head unit without some serious hackery.
So download AutoMate Car Dashboard from the Play store, call it a day.
It's virtually identical to Android Auto in functionality and looks, with a few extra features.

I am having trouble with android auto as well with my Xtrons TS702L it installs but will not load it wont load wjen a phone it plugged in through USB any help would be great
Hi. This will, iirc, be my first ever post here but have browsed the forum for a while for Android things. I have just bought a generic Android head unit:
(ah, no links for me...)
2Din-7in-Android-7-1-GPS-Navi-RDS-FM-Radio-Quad-Core-Car-Stereo-MP5-Player-Cam-
This model, but without a camera since I already have a cam. Anyway, this is not the issue. I am trying to get info about it and the seller is not exactly full of help. I suspect they don't really know much about the system. I have got it working fine: Radio is good, installed Poweramp, Sygic navigation etc etc. I also installed Torque pro as I have used it on my phone. My problem is that when I go into the settings there does not appear to be any option for bluetooth. There are very few options in settings in fact and I cannot see any way to pair up my bluetooth obdii unit to the head unit.
I realise I have not given a lot of info here, but there is not much info available from it though. What I can find is:
About Car Machine
Model K6_13_LH
Android 7.1
Kernel Linux Ver 3.4.67
System: K6_13_LH_V2.0.1_20181107
MCV: CM_0.4730.0_180918_17:36
APP: MT1002_V1.0.9
Bluetooth Aug141108
it has an ARMv7 Processor rev 3(v7l) with 1GB ram and 16GB nand flash.
The steering wheel controls don't work either and I know my canbus adaptor is working as it worked fine on the last unit I had.
Any help you guys might be able to offer in the way of pointers for O.S. or even how to get the proper android settings on the machine would be really useful. Ta in advance, and I was not sure if this was the correct place for this post so if not could a mod shove it where it should be, if not here.
[Update]
Just ran some diagnostic tool on the unit. Hmm, It is reporting Android 7.1_KitKat! I suspect this is why the settings menu does not look right... It's also showing a build of ALPS.KK1.MP1.V2.11 so I might be able to find something here for the unit?
I'm guessing that's a no then!?
Hello man.
I bought plenty of android head units.
those devices is a BLUETOOTH READY,
which means ., You're able to connect to your phone and check address book and make phone calls also listen to music through the BLUETOOTH app in menu, NOT TO BE FOUND IN SETTING.
you can think about it simply it's a Bluetooth that's independent from the android system.
so you'll not be able to find and connect to OBD's tools whatsoever.
hope this helps
regards.
I have the same unit. The cpu is MT6582 it's a quad core.
Kingroot failed many times (said it clearly) but, after some reboots, finally succeeded (without saying it clearly).
Once root, I used a shutdown app to boot into recovery, but the buttons are not responding. It also managed to boot into fastboot mode,
but my pc doesn't see the device (I've tried both usb ports). Maybe it needs a driver ?
Hi all,
Some time ago I found a thread on here that directed people how to reimage the head unit with an Android Auto. Is this possible for all head units, or are there things to watch out for? I tried searching but could not find the relevant info(Could be on me).
If I go into About Device of the Head Unit all it shows me RK3368 as name, no more info. All I can find is a thread how to update a headunit with the PX5 to Android 10, which it is already running. If possible I'd really like to flash Android Auto on it, as the current solution feels a bit like a bandaid solution.
Bump
Found some more info. It's a S32F0 MCU, with a PX5 board.
Still trying to figure out if it's MTCB or MTCD and if I can flash Android Auto on it. Any help would be appreciated

Okay so here is an obvious question - why on earth would you put Android Auto on a real Android device? Android Auto is a scaled down version of true Android with some "lite" functionality and support for some basic apps. Android Auto is for those who (for some reason) can't install a proper Android Head Unit.
To put it simply, you can do everything on your Android that you can on Android Auto but not the other way around.
You have S32F0 as MCU, meaning it's not MTCx. Luckily for you, you can still use the only mod that matters - Malaysk. Forget anything else. With Malaysk you can customize your head unit with nearly no limitations to make it fast, user friendly and overall just awesome.
Go to this thread and follow it's instructions.

Hi Ice,
Thank you for you answer!
My main reason is the ability to mirror screen. I don't have a 4G dongle attached to my radio, as that is quite expensive over here. So I was thinking to be able to use my own phone as mirror onto the radio to navigate, play spotify etcetera.
For example I can copy my phonebook to the head unit, unfortunately both me and my wife use the car, which causes a very long contact list with duplicates etc.
What I've seen with friends is that Android Auto fixes some of those issues, as you don't run a seperate instance of the phonebook or whatever, but it's a mirror from your phone.
I've seen Malaysk's post, but also read in the thread there are quite some issues and support is flaky at best. Are those posts stirring sh*t for no reason, or do they have a point?
Finally, the seller claims my headunit is real Android 10, with build number 205150. I cannot find anywhere if this is real Android 10, or the so called fake android 10.

Mirror screen functionality on Android Head Units is shaky at best.
You don't need 4G dongle - hotspot from your phone to give access to the Internet on your head unit - that way you can run any Android app on the head unit, Spotify, YouTube, Internet Radio etc etc. Make sure to give full permissions to your phone
Use BlueTooth on your phone to use handsfree calling. Use Google Voice to dial any number (no need to mess with Contact Books), your wife can do the same and your Android Head Unit will not sync contacts back to your phone
I know Malaysk developer as I'm also a Russian-speaker and his work is exemplary. If anything, his firmware is by far more stable and effective compared to anything you get from factory. People who complain about it, simply do not have the right skills of installing it and using it. Spend some time with Malaysk tutorials - well worth it. Malaysk also offers ROOT natively and Viper4Android which means you can tweak most parameters on your head unit and considerably improve the sound in your car.
Doesn't matter what Android version you have. You should go with Malaysk firmware for Android 9 (most stable). You will need to get a "rollback" software to successfully install it if your Android is anything but version 9. For that you'll need to purchase MOD Installer Pro 2 for €10
Whatever is possible to do your Android Head Unit will only be possible with Malaysk. If Malaysk can't support it, then it's simply not doable.
You can also look into "profiles" on your Head Unit. I.e one profile will have your stuff, and the other one will have your wife's.
I just recently installed an Eonon R80 (Android 11) unit in my 2009 Suburban. It has been a pain in my butt since the moment we got it installed.
I have my Android (Zfold 3) hooked up with the ZLink App via CarPlay. This is all well and good, but it has some quirks that I'm not able to figure out:
1) How do I get to anything beyond Navigation? I want to use Waze, not Google, and I want to be able to see other apps but can't figure out how to get to the menu.
2) The built-in apps seem to be largely inaccessible without WiFi, but when I try to go to the Settings, ZLink immediately comes up and thwarts all attempts at working in the Settings at all. I don't know how to get it to stop doing that, so currently, I can't get to Netflix, Spotify, or anything else, because they need WiFi but I can't get on my phone's WiFi due to ZLink.
Any help with this would be extremely appreciated! I'm going on vacation soon, and the whole purpose of this installation was so that I had a better head unit for the extremely long journey, but right now, I'm really disappointed and their manual is AWFUL.
