I've done a ton of reading on this forum only to find out that it's locked down pretty tight and getting Root and Roms installed can be a pain. I then went over to the Lenovo Website where it looks as if the tablet is going to be discontinued soon. I ended up chatting with a rep from Lenovo and I asked them if the K1 will be getting ICS and they said NO! So now I'm mildly disappointed in my purchase.
Is the K1 going to be worth keeping? Are we going to get a fully functional ICS rom? I see that there is some developement on CM9, but it has it's issues still. I guess what I am writing this for is, I need to know if I should just throw the K1 on Ebay and look for a more open and upgradeable tablet?

Root is a fairly simple, follow the directions, sort of process. Rom installation is the same as root. The problem isn't installation but bugs because we need driver files for ICS. Also, Lenovo hasn't released all of the source code or the bootloader, the previously released source code wasn't functional. The K1 was supposed to be getting ICS in may but it looks as though that was taken off the official website (a screen capture from before it was removed).
Hopefully we can shame Lenovo into releasing full source code and bootloader.

It would be a shame if we don't get ICS, but the way the rep at lenovo was talking, it simply isn't going to happen. As soon as I mentioned it, he said that it wasn't possible for the K1 to run ICS and then he started pushing their new tablet on me that was upgradeable to ICS. Its as if they completely dropped the K1.
Do you have links to the root and CM9 installation process that worked for you? I've read the threads and it seems as if some of them have many problems. Also, did you use windows 7? It seems as if most of the instructions are for Ubuntu
It's BS that the K1 can't run ICS. My Nook Color can run ICS flawlessly with a 2 year old single core processor. Plus there's already an ICS alpha here on this site, we just don't have the code to get the cameras and other things working.
I would personally recommend that you stick to just rooting until the K1's ICS is further along. The root works flawlessly but ICS has the bugs that are mentioned in the first post.
Here's how I rooted: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-alpha-ideapad-k1-cwm-stock-rooted-rom-120109-build/

Just an Update
Lenovo released this news March 31st so its relevant to this post.
:Lenovo ThinkPad and K1 Tablet upgrade to ICS Newsflash
This coming spring 2012, Lenovo’s ThinkPad Tablet and IdeaPad Tablet K1 users will be able to upgrade to the latest Android 4.0 OS, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Committed to making their tablets ‘future proof’ by supporting newer releases on the Android OS, Lenovo tablets with Ice Cream Sandwich will offer new features* including but not limited to:
A new and improved browser with a significant speed enhancement that allows users to jump to their favorite content faster and even save it for reading later in case there's no network available.
Voice input allows users to dictate text. As the voice input engine enters text, it underlines possible dictation errors in gray. After dictating, users can tap the underlined words to quickly replace them from a list of suggestions.
Face Unlock, a new screen-lock option that lets users unlock their device with their face. It takes advantage of the devices’ front-facing camera and state-of-the-art facial recognition technology to register a face during setup and then recognize it again when unlocking the device.
Users should look out for the Over-The-Air (OTA) upgrades beginning in April for IdeaPad Tablet K1 and May for ThinkPad Tablet. Visit shortly for more information.
* Features may vary by model and country."

I guess they got enough angry emails. Between this and the USB host cable, this is turning into a decent purchase.

I know this is an older thread, but I though I would update with the news from Mark, in the Lenovo forums, that works for Lenovo, says the ICS for the K1 is just around the corner. They were about ready to say it's a go, but found a issue that needed fixing first. Then, they need to get the web page with all the disclaimers and whatnot about the release.
The ICS release for the K1 will NOT be an OTA. It will be a download only with full instructions. The best part of it all, at least in my opinion, is that it will be a Vanilla Release of ICS. No Lenovo junkware included.
Lenovo is being targeted as a company that lacks the ability to provide updates on a timely scale and as promised. I have yet to see ANY Android manufacturer fully comply with promises for ICS upgrades. So, hang in there and we will soon see ICS on our K1, aside from the crippled, but stable, CM9 version, here on XDA.

a. Ideapad K1 is discontinued
b. Can no longer download drivers!
So whoever is feeding info regarding any update is probably FOS - typical Chinee BS - don't think that Lenovo has any thought of upgrading. Throwing mine onto Ebay
So, with the recent news of a port of Sailfish to the Nexus 4, I've been thinking. Does anyone know what it would take to port this OS? Does anyone here know the system well enough to be able to describe what it would entail to port this to another Nexus device, like the Nexus 5?
To clarify, I'm not asking anyone else to port the OS (though if someone would like to, that's fine), because I'm more than happy to do the work for it. I've just never actually ported anything like a completely new OS, so I don't know what it would involve and I'd like it if someone explained or even gave a rough outline of what would need to be done.

I tried to do that a few weeks back but didn't have time to hunt down all the problems I had.

There's a rough guide in one entry. Basically you need to build CM from source, apply libhybris patches and then set up Mer on top of it. When you get Mer running it should be easy to install Sailfish packages. Libhybris is a compatibility layer for Android drivers to work on normal linux. Good luck and let us know how it goes. I had troubles with building Mer image for my device. In the video you mentioned it looks like the whole patch+Mer+ sailfish packages is this second prepared zip he flashes.

Not yet; I've been busy working with other things. Though it looks like we're in pretty good shape so far because the recent Ubuntu Touch builds have been getting doing some good work for Mer on the Nexus 5, so hopefully we can use that progress. I just haven't found the time to work on this yet, unfortunately.

I think SF is a really promising OS more so than Firefox is, tizen, and I think more polished than Ubuntu phone. I can't wait to start developing for it so I really want to port it when I get my laptop back. Nice thing is if you use Qt you can basically just write one app that will natively run on Ubuntu and SailFish

I agree completely. It's sad that it hasn't seen a bigger leap in development, but I hope that it'll pick up sooner rather than later. I was just reading earlier today about Qt, which is pretty nifty if you ask me. Hopefully I'll find some time this week to actually make progress on it.

I tweeted Jolla asking if there was now an arm image within the SDK instead of just a x86 one and they told me that there is so that will take care of one major issue.
Android One port
Hi there! I'm not sure if this is where I can ask but I will, just to make sure. Could it be possible for someone to please port Sailfish OS to the Android One devices? They share nearly identical hardware (only differences are in storage).
Here are the specs:
Processor: Mediatek MT6582M 1.3GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU
GPU: Mali-400 MP2
RAM: 1GB
Camera: 5.0 MP Autofocus Back Camera with LED Flash; 2.0 MP Front Camera
Storage: 4/8 GB (varies; categorized into sprout4 and sprout8 devices, respectively)
MicroSD: 32 GB max caapacity
Sim: Dual Micro
Network: 3G HSPA+, 2G EDGE and GPRS; Wi-Fi
Bluetooth: 4.0 with LE support
Location sensor: GPS with A-GPS
FM Radio
Ports: MicroUSB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack
Other sensors: Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor
Battery: 1,780mAh Li-ion
Don't worry about the MediaTek processor hampering sources, check Google repos for code. Also sources are updated frequently.
I want to experience Sailfish on my phone and likely other fellow Android One users. Minimal modifications necessary for sprout8-specific patches.

hi i seen list of devices already ported using HADK some devices such as samsung they have some problem in application such as gps and fingerprint .... why these application doesnt work ?? is this problems based in sailfish error or this problems related to porters ? and hiw to fix this problems

That's great news! However, I am a little bit confused about this sentence: "The Sailfish community has already ported Sailfish OS into several devices including major versions of popular Samsung Galaxy, Google Nexus, and Sony Xperia". I didn't see these ports and I try to keep a look out. Where are they?

I obviously hope they know what they're talking about, but it looks like someone was too hasty and wrote this before it actually happened. I'm very excited to see the release and try porting it when it comes out on some Nexus. It would be great if they released a zip from the Nexus 4 build at MWC.

From reading the press release it appears as if they will release the software for said android devices in the latter half of 2014. I would guess that it mostly works (in house and perhaps for "community" of users with close ties to Jolla) but they are not quite there yet. Otherwise it would be available now. I'd also be interested in seeing how their Sailfish Launcher works. Sailfish does multitasking in a different fashion than android. Wonder how they handle that.
I actually decided to buy the Jolla phone. I live in the US and doubt I'll use it as daily drive since the data will be poor. But I don't mind supporting the company. I'd like to see them succeed.
I'm really curious about Sailfish OS and how it feels in your hand.
Sailfish OS downloadable to existing Android devices
Sailfish OS has been developed to be compatible with commonly available Android hardware platforms. Due to this advanced technology, Jolla is introducing the Sailfish OS experience as downloadable software to devices running Android OS. Users can soon start to enjoy the modern, gesture based Sailfish OS in selected Android devices and also renew the lifecycle of their existing older Android devices.

This will be a good way to give Android users a 'taste' of sailfish without actually committing to it.

Some videos of the Jolla phone at MWC 2014
Here is a "other half" with sensors that makes the Jolla logo light up different colors based on orientation, proximity or flash to alert of a call and you can wave your hand over it to answer with speakerphone or smother it to reject the call.

Dear developers and fellow s4 users,
I recently got my hands on a s4 and would like to kindly push your attention on a awesome project I am following since a while. The project is called Maru OS and it turns your phone into a pc running Linux when attached to a monitor. In daily use it runs android aosp and since a few weeks it is build on lineageos as well (hence ports should be a lot easier). Right now there are already ports for nexus 5 and 5x, HTC 10, lg g5 ... existing.
I am sadly not a developer and lack the skills to code but I wanted to make a little shoutout and were hoping to attract someone's attention in order to port maruos for our lovely device
Here you find the homepage:
http://maruos.com/#/
Here the google dev group
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!forum/maru-os-dev
On YouTube you'll find some beautiful vids of maru is in action.
On github you can find all the sourcecode.
What are you're thoughts?
Have a lovely day
Wow, the project seems pretty intersting would love to see that for our s4
didnt convience me
That's a pity but thanks for your great lineage OS builds
This is a place to talk about custom development for the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 ONLY. EE1 and the Explorer units can be discussed elsewhere.
I am hoping to get an EE2 sometime in the near future. In the meantime, I decided I would post what I have done so far in the hopes that a tester can be found to verify some stuff on a live unit.
The EE2 bootloader is unlockable by default if the glasses are bought from a google authorized seller. Some Google Partner glasses are very locked down. Be sure to confirm that the Google stock firmware is installed before buying any.
You can review the Google docs for how to flash the system images
TWRP
I have created a TWRP device tree as well as a test image that should in theory work but it is untested.
Source: Here
Test image: Here
Kernel Source
Initially, back in early 2020, I had to fight through Google Glass support for them to release the source to me. But they now post it freely on the firmware dev docs. I have worked on turning the files they released into a kernel source with a good history and an explanation of the changes google did to the reference Qualcomm source. Both the kernel and techpack changes are included. Sadly due to how the Qualcomm wifi driver is licensed, they are not required to release it so I have instead imported the reference source which hopefully will work or will only need minor edits to work. The source has all changes as of the msm-4.9_210126 February 4, 2021 release.
Source: Here
Adding features to Glass
It should be possible to include basic Google play services support to the Google Glass by flashing a minimal gapps package via twrp. That would make app compatibility a lot better at the expense of lower battery life and the chance of bad UI depending on the app.
Developer Help
If anyone has a Google Glass EE2 and would be willing to help test twrp and or modification to the system. Please reach out to me in this thread or via PM/Email. It would be nice to confirm that the work I have done works.
Fellow glass developer here. Thanks for creating this page!
Any idea how the may work if flashed to a Recon Instruments Snow2 or Jet unit?
Are the orange google glass the version 2?
