T-505 Android 12, Locking one of the Multi Windows? - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hello all,
I just bought a T-505 to use it as a car Tablet.
So far so good, I installed a car launcher etc. and I plan to use Split Screen / Multi Window to have 2 screens at the same time.
Multi Window works, but in the older Android version it was possible to lock one of the split screens / Multi windows.
Or to describe it in different terms: In the left screen I could click on a new app, which opened on the right screen.
The left screen was more or less permanent and could be used as a Car UI / Launcher and start apps, which then opened on the right / other window.
Currently / in Android 12 the apps on the same windows where I launched/picked the app and I dont want that.
Is there a way to revert this change?
Would changing to Linaege OS help me with this or do I need to downgrade to Android 10/11?

I saw a method to downgrade using Odin.
I downgraded successfully to Android 10 and Multi Window works as I wanted. No issues so far

Great phone, naff operating system

I bought my XDA mini S a few weeks ago. As a phone, I think its great, especially the pull out keyboard. It has everything you could want from a phone/PDA (unless you want 3G as well). However, I have several issues with the OS.
1. On the custom and setting screens, there is a scroll bar, even though everything seems to fit onto the screen, so how to get rid of this
2. It doesn't sync properly with Lotus Notes (which I have to use at work), so why don't Microsoft do something about this
3. You need to tap the font screen twice after it hibernates (minor, I know, but I'd like to know why)
4. The screen sometimes takes ages to redraw properly. It really needs a decent processor.
5. How do you download phone call details to your PC.
6. Can you get the alarm to go off when it is in silent mode
7. Can you change the size of the padlock icon on the front screen, so its much easier to lock the device with your thumb
8. When adding apps to the custom screen, you can browse the app, but you need to know the exact name and location - for example, where is the Memory/RunningPrograms apps stored?
9. Already answered elsewhere, but it would be great if they could build into the OS the ability to minimise/close every app running on the device.
10. Why can't you change the POP3 name once set up as you can change all the other details for an e-mail account
Top 10 things to think about so far. Looking at who developed the OS, I'm
sure there will be more.

[Q] Want to move or "eliminate" the home icons

My biggest actual usability issue with Nexus 7 is the home icons. It's too easy to swipe them during game play, especially annoying when you are trying to keep the kids busy. I'd like a mod with 2 options:
1. Drag it to the top (or the side?)
2. Even better, Make it go away until the table is "sleeped" and restarted.
Is there an simple option/rom that does these 2 simple things without tons of stuff I don't care about (that affect updates, etc)? If not, which mods do you recommend and feel good about that can at least do this?
Thanks
I'm not understanding what you're asking. How can you swipe away home screen icons when you are playing a game that takes up the whole screen? Using an alternate launcher from the market, like Apex launcher, will allow you to lock the desktop so that no changes can be made until you unlock it again.
When I play a full screen game I don't want to have any OS home/etc icons that can be swiped accidently. I just want to have to exit through a menu, or sleep the device (tap the power button) and wake it up again so the icons return (since not all games have an exit feature). Locking my home screen or desktop does me no good when I am in a game. I'll give apex a try, but it looks to me like it doesn't do what I want. I'm satisfied with the stock environment except for the one issue I describe. How many times have you accidently left a game?

I would say the best way to do what you're trying to do is to flash Paranoid Android or another ROM that offers what is called "expanded desktop mode".
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800268
Basically "expanded desktop mode" is exactly what you are asking for. When you briefly hold down the power button in Paranoid Android (and this works in any app) a menu pops up that allows you to select "expanded desktop mode" which makes the navigation bar disappear. The navigation bar will reappear when you briefly hold down the power button again and select "expanded desktop mode again".
This feature may be part of other ROMs based on cyanogenmod but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe another member with more knowledge can weigh in on this.

I used paranoid android on my htc sensation. It is a cool Rom with a lot of features!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Extended Desktop Mode will certainly do the job. But, I don't really want a major desktop redo (I know, that attitude isn't in the spirit of the great things the developers do here). Is there anyway to just install an extended desktop app?
It doesn't even need to be an extended desktop (the screen space isn't a big issue), Just a disabled home bar would do the trick.
Anyway to make a rom with just that feature? (I have some programming skills) Not sure where to start though. Just trying for a minimalist solution.
Thanks for helping. It's really appreciated. I learn a little more every day about what is happening here.

[Q] Touch Keyboard Automatic Screen Resize

I have a Thinkpad X61 Tablet. It was running Windows 7 Ultimate before I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro. When I invoked the Touch Keyboard in Desktop mode, the window would automatically resize as I type (i.e. window on top, keyboard below). However, this weekend I performed a clean install of Windows 8 since I wasn't happy with some of the quirks from an upgrade. Now, I can no longer get the automatic screen resize when I initiate the Touch Keyboard (i.e. window stays behind keyboard, making it hard to see what I am typing). Are there settings I need to change? Is it something that was carried over from Windows 7 during my upgrade but I deleted it with my clean install? I appreciate any help.
Update: Just figured out how to get the automatic resize. You have to maximize the Touch Keyboard. I guess I must have been using it in maximized form without realizing it.
The term is actually "dock" (hover over the button with the mouse) but yeah, it kind of looks like a maximize button. Docking the keyboard tells the OS to flow windows around it; leaving it free-floating makes the OS treat it just like an always-on-top app window.

How can I alt+tab on a Windows 8 Pro tablet?

I just realized I had no way of switching between desktop programs that are full screened. Anyone have any good alternatives? I've tried remapping the hardware screen rotation button, but it seems to share a scan code with the Windows button, so changing one would end up changing both. I've also looked into possibly having gestures for it, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I'm certain that it's possible, though, since Samsung's Touch Supporter offers this functionality, but isn't available for Windows 8 (only Windows 7 on their site or preinstalled on Windows 8 machines).
Switch the onscreen keyboard to the one that emulates a real one. My Asus has that option.
If you're full screened, you cannot access the on screen keyboard.

Split screen not working, adb?

I don't care to make a samsung account and wanted to use this tablet in a mostly barebones android system while trying not to sacrifice too much functionality. I used ADB (not rooted) to remove a bunch of smansung/bixby bloatware on a new OS install for this tablet. Everything is working fine except split screen view. The option just doesn't do anything when selecting a second program. I presume that I must have removed a package pertaining to this menu option but I'm not sure which it was.
Any ideas what package is required for the Samsung UI to allow split screen? Pop-up view works fine., just trying to find what needs to be reinstalled to fix split screen.
Yes, I of course didn't log everything I removed.
I jave the same issue and haven't found a way to solve it, yet..
Edge panels and One UI Home Launcher cant't be disable to correct work multiwindow mode.

It must be the edge panels then, any way to reinstall them without factory reset? I tried to find the adb comand for the package but couldn't.
Anyone find a way to reinstall it?
