Oneplus 8 Pro cycling through bootloader options - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

My Oneplus 8 Pro is cycling through the bootloader options as if I am holding the volume up button. I tried MSM tool back to stock to try to fix the problem but it keeps happening. If anybody knows a fix for this issue please let me know! Thank you!
Edit: I discovered this while trying to install Evolution X 7.1 ROM and got stuck in the bootloader

I am having a similar issue with my Oneplus 8, were you able to find a fix for this?

My Op8 pro have the same issue, but fastboot commands are working so i just write command fastboot reboot bootloader.
It reboots to the same screen with "Start", and i can select with vol down/up options, but sometimes vol up still gives weird response like it will be holding still and cycles through all options. Mostly fastboot reboot bootloader in my case solves the problem, and fastboot mode have proper response to keys.
Second question is: why do you need not shuffling bootloader? To select option? If yes, then you can select most of the options through commands (even if options are switching like crazy) like:
fastboot reboot recovery
fastboot reboot bootloader
fastboot reboot
and there's moooore and more options ^_^
Show barcode have no command from what i know.

I got around that by unplugging the phone before you boot to fastboot. It seems to work fine when it is not plugged in your computer.

how to factory reset a pattern locked phone

Hi. yesterday i bought a redmi 3s... i have put a pattern which i forgot and also a fingerprint unlock... the fingerprint unlock was working, until i tried other fingers to see if it could be fooled... obviously after too many tries, the fingerprint unlock won't unlock the phone without the unlock pattern... is there a way to hard reset such a phone ore delete user settings... i tried volume up + power button to acess the recovery menu, but when i acess it i get a weird menu saying:
your device has loaded a different operating system
for more info visit g.co/placeholder
if no key is pressed:
your device will boot in 5 seconds
if i press volume up or down, i get this menu:
power off
restart
recovery
fastboot
back to previous page
recovery and back to previous page return to the same screen mentioned above....
please help! :crying:
also, when i connect my phone in any mode to my computer via usb cable (download mode, fastboot mode, normal mode) i hear the usb connect sound but no folders open. I'd like to get to pictures made in the last 24 hours (thats the only thing you can acess without the pattern unlock on the side swipe menu).
You can still use the usb when boot using fastboot, just move to another port of usb in your PC/Laptop etc, for unlocking pattern :
Try this

Now you dont even need to wipe your data again

Screen black (broken) - How to recovery data (no usb-debug)

Hi all,
I have a particularly tricky case here. A OnePlus 3T with a broken screen (its black, can't tell if its registering taps) which I need to recovery data (photos) from. Normally I'd just use ADB but of course usb-debugging isn't enabled. I've tried rebooting into recovery... hold the power button and vol-down until the phone vibrates, keep holding for a few seconds. Then wait. Then vol down twice and power again to hopefully select English but the when I try
Code:
adb devices
nothing comes up on the list.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas how I can recover data/photos from this device.
One again the facts are:
-OnePlus 3T
-screen is broken, black, doesn't display anything
-usb-debugging is NOT enabled
-i can see the device in fastboot mode (boot w/ vol-up+power)
Thanks!
Maybe try a mouse with OTG. Would be horribly difficult i guess. But can probably work.
Also with any recovery, it would require your pin to enter the recovery (for decrypting the partitions); so that's a no go.
All you can try is to just boot the phone normally and try any input with an external mouse with OTG. Bring it to a point where the phone is powered on and unlocked so that you can copy data off the flash storage in MTP mode.
Ps: why don't you try to normally boot the phone and use fingerprint unlock?
did you trying with this link?

Using this tutorial in this case would make no sense, since the damage is physical and this way you're going to lose all the data currently stored on the phone.

if you have no usb-debugging and cannot see screen you are out of luck. same thing happen to me. the only thing that worked was I had twrp recovery and was able to boot into it. Recovery by default is in mtp so you will be able to see all your folders and transfer pics or backup files. last resort was to send it to oneplus repair which will cost about 100 bucks and you will get your phone back within 7 days remember to tell them to not reset phone because they will if you dont. good luck
You can also recover the data very easy through data recovery softwares. No usb-debugging and cannot see screen you are out of luck. I also have to face same problem the only thing that worked was I had twrp recovery and was able to boot into it.
You can try to flash TWRP in fastboot, then reboot recovery via fastboot command. MTP would work unless a pin is required in TWRP.
I can feel the situation, the phone doesn't work properly.

zenpad 3s 10 Z500M recovery bootloop

I was fiddling with my device (not rooted) and I gave the wrong command in fastboot:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
.
I then gave
Code:
fastboot continue
This was surely a **** up but I don't understand why erasing the cache partition seems to have broken the recovery/fastboot mechanism (I understand why it probably broke android though).
My device is now stuck, whenever I turn it on it goes directly in the recovery 'splash screen' showing 'no command'.
My understanding is that from the recovery 'splash screen' I'm supposed to press some keys combination to get to the recovery menu, but none seem to work.
Pressing both volume up and down for like 10 second reboots the device, so I assume it's not an hardware button problem.
Pressing power + volume up with the device powered off does not go to fastboot (but I'm quite sure it did before).
Neither adb devices or fastboot devices detect the device when connect to my linux pc by usb.
Any suggestion?
Any solution?
I have done exactly the same as you, and am now stuck on the 'no command' screen with the dead android icon flashing every 5 or so seconds. Did you manage to find anyway out of this. I have tried numerous button combinations and I cannot get to either fastboot or recovery, so my tablet is basically bricked. Any help would be immensely welcome.

Sadly, no
I never managed to solve this. I tried everything without luck. I even contacted Asus, and they confirmed me that the right button combination for this device is the following: press and keep pressing the power button with volume up for 3 seconds, then let the volume button go and keep pressing the power one. A recovery menu should appear at that point, but never did for me.
I still don't understand how deleting that partition could break the recovery mechanism, but this seems to be the case.
If you (or anyone else for that matter) ever manage to solve this, I would appreciate if you could write about it here: my device is currently gathering dust in its box
Thanks
Thanks for that. I'll let you know, if I have any luck.
Did you try using the SP Flash tool at all? I have tried this, but it claims the scatter file is invalid and I can't find a way around that.

I will have to look into it, since I'm not familiar with this tool. Where did you get the scatter file?
Sadly right now I don't have the tablet with me, and I won't for several days. When I will, I'll give this a try and report back.

You can get this tool here https://spflashtool.com/
As I understand, the scatter file is in the zip of a ton. So, I downloaded this: ASUS ZenPad 3S 10 (Z500M) FOTA WW_V14.0210.1806.33, unzipped it and used the scatter file from that, but it comes up as invalid. This may be because this isn't the right sort of Ron file, I'm not sure. So, at the moment, I'm stuck.
Still trying
I've used information from the following sites, but have still not solved. Let me know if you have any luck.

Cannot access fastboot or recovery

LG G6 H871 unrooted
I just can't get into fastboot or recovery mode. I've tried everything on the internet.
I've tried turning off the phone. Holding down the volume down button and then plugging in the USB cable.
I've tried adb command "adb reboot bootloader" which just reboots the phone until I can see the "enter your PIN" screen
The closest I got to the recovery mode was using "adb reboot recovery" which gave me the "no command" screen.
Any tips on this?
Have you enabled OEM Unlock option under Developer settings?
Yes. "Enable OEM unlock" and "USB debugging" enabled.
both oem unlock is on and usb debugging on and my computer has accepted the fingerprint from teh device to shake with adb. . still cant get into fastboot mode.what to do.
Is your phone rooted? If so use flashify to reflash recovery. You do know that if you want to boot in recover you have to let the power key go and repress it once your screen goes on right?
You can also try phone off. Holding volume up while you insert usb cable. Might be a tool that allows a command to be send to reboot it in fastboot mode? If not downgrade its firmware..

If I understand correctly, when you got to the No Command" screen, you were actually in Recovery. From my experience, the No Command screen is like a "greeting", if you will. Once you see that screen, you need to fiddle with the power & volume buttons. I believe the correct combination is to press and hold the power button. Then press and release the volume up button but continue to hold power button. If that is not the correct sequence you will need to Google for the correct order. Reference.
Considering that you are not rooted, there is not much you can do in the stock recovery.

Stuck in Boot Loop

Have searched the forum but came up empty.
Hoping someone can help.
Purchased the phone used back in December and have been using it as-is. Two OTA updates came through fine. The latest OTA update has it stuck in a boot loop.
- I can get to fastboot with power and volume down buttons but all of the options either turn it off or stick it back in the loop again (Essential logo with powered by Android, NO dot animation)
- Can't see it via "adb devices" since developer mode was likely not enabled
- "fastboot devices" can see the phone but can't change slots or do anything else
I saw two other people who've posted something similar but no solution. Is my phone garbage?
Any help is appreciated.

Damn, that's a bit unlucky, this March update said it would make recovery from a loop after OTA update easier to recover from, which might just have helped you. Sorry not sure how to help fix at present.
you can try flashing one of these https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/development/stock-7-1-1-nmj20d-t3701681
be sure to pick one with the fastboot images

A couple of questions:
- Is your BL unlocked (or is OEM Unlocking enabled)?
What happens if you try executing "fastboot flashing unlock"? NOTE: this would WIPE your data if successful.
- Can you get to the Recovery mode? It's when you pick "Recovery" option from fastboot mode, see the lying android with an exclamation sign, then hold Power and press VolumeUp to get to the Recovery menu.

Thanks for your response.
- I dont belive OEM unlocking is enabled.
- I can get to the fastboot menu, but the recovery mode option just takes me back to the 'powered by android' logo, not the green dead robot.
- When I try fastboot flashing unlock, I get the below error:
=============
FAILED (remote: Flashing Unlock is not allowed
)
finished. total time: 0.013s

Will this work even though I cannot see the device via adb? AND the device state is "locked".

Dang... :\ Yeah, the last error means you don't have OEM unlock enabled. So, you can't flash the bts image via fastboot. One last thing I could think of is trying to get to recovery by the button combo. Although, if you are correct in saying you don't have USB debug enabled, it won't do much good, i.e. you won't be able to flash an OTA... :\
While device is OFF, press and hold Volume-Up button while pushing Power button to boot.
Your device will now be in Recovery mode. An Android logo with red exclamation mark should appear on screen. Hold the Power button, then press the Volume-Up button one time to see the recovery menu.
can you try this command on bootloader:
fastboot OEM unlock
