ELI5: what is a combination file? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Is it firmware dependant? Where do I get the latest combination file from?
I've downloaded Samsung USB drivers, Odin, as well as the latest firmware (G975WVLU6IVH1).
I've been working with Samsung phones forever but I've never needed a "combination file" so I'm not sure what it is or where I can get it.
Any help?

Bricked Galaxy S4, any chance to bring it to life?

Hi guys,
I had a rooted galaxy s4 I9505, which I tried to encript before selling. After 10 hours the encripting did not finish so I rebooted it and ended up with a bootloop, that I tried to foolishly solve by going to the TWRP menu and formatting the device, the OS was lost and since then I am unable to bring it back to life. I am trying to flash a new rom with jOdin because it keeps saying that the PIT file that my phone shows is corrupt, I tried different versions of jOdin and two different computers. Kies and the like are uninstalled. I tried downloading PIT files online with no luck.
Do you guys have any suggestions? I am really lost after wasting 2 days on this.
Many thanks...
Try downloading the official firmware from sammobile. And flash using odin. That should work

Thanks Soyuz4u, but Odin keeps saying that has found a corrupted file (either the PIT file or another) and does not even start flashing.
Has anyone had this problem before?
Can't you flash a rom via TWRP? I managed to soft brick my device last night with Mobile Odin. It wiped my recovery and OS. I just flashed TWRP back with normal Odin and restored my rom backup.
Have you googled to see if there is a pit file for the memory configuration of your phone?

Try a different USB cable / port. That error is related to that a lot of the time.
Thanks for the replies guys. I couldn't flash a new ROM with TWRP because it kept saying that the .md5 file could not be found, no matter what I did. I downloaded some PIT files online but did not find something specific to my phone memory config.
I'll give it a go in a Windows platform with different USB ports to see if that helps.
Thanks again!

I don't think you have any clue what you are doing.
You say you have TWRP on your device. Then download a custom rom and flash it with TWRP.
- What do you mean with .md5 file cannot be found? You never ever use a .md5 file with TWRP. You only need to flash a .zip.
- Are you running Odin in a virtual machine? That will not work. Jodin is also outdated if i'm not mistaken.
SOLVED NOW! I installed the latest Odin on WIndows and flashed the Rom with no problem. I was unaware of Odin being outdated for Mac. Thanks all for your help again.

Samsung S4 GT i9505 System Partition wiped, what to do?

Hi,
I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S4, with stock firmware (5.0.1, I think...) and TWRP recovery v3. I tried to flash a file, which got the phone stuck in a boot loop, and when I tried to factory reset it, I somehow accidentally tapped the 'wipe system partition' check box, too. When I tried to boot the phone again, it was stuck on the 'Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505' screen, with no advance to the boot animation.
I tried to flash the stock firmware on again, with an error: "Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip file." Using my own knowledge, I've narrowed it down to two options: 1. Either the firmware zip is corrupt, but I have re-downloaded the zip a good five times, and 2. There's something else that also needs to be flashed to the system partition.
I really need some help. Is there anything to do before flashing the firmware zip, and if yes, what? And, is there a good, CONFIRMED WORKING link to a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 Stock firmware (LTE, Android 5.0.1, United Kingdom, Vodafone)?
Thanks,
hamzabil11
Firmwares aren't flashed through the recovery, but with Odin.
Firmwares also come with a tar extension. So it should be firmeare.tar
You could flash a custom rom now, or you can go to sammobile.com and download the official firmware from there and flash it with Odin.
Remeber, it has to be a tar file. Sammobile compresses them to zips, so you just extract them to get the tar file.

It appears that you're phone is soft-brick. You need to flash the factory stock firmware.
You can also find all the factory stock firmware for lollipop i-9505 here.
It's not soft-bricked. He just needs to flash a rom. Any rom, either custom or official, should get the phone running again.

Thanks a lot, I wasn't aware of this. I thought that you could just use the recovery to flash a stock OS, just like a custom OS. Never thought of using ODIN. I will check sammobile for the firmware; I'd heard of it before, just never thought of using it.
I was aware about the .tar extension though, just the websites i used gave them in .zip format.
Thanks,
hamzabil11

Sammobile has slow download speeds for non-premium users. So you might as well check the link suggested by sway8966.

Yeah Ok, thanks. I found out about the slow download speeds the hard way.
I've already checked the link, and it looks all good. I will try from there.
One more related question: If I flash this stock firmware, will I need to re-root the phone, and re-install TWRP recovery? Not really a problem if ido, but I would like to know in advance so I can be prepared.
Thanks,
hamzabil11

I've already checked the link, but it only seems to offer Android KitKat Firmware. Since this phone is likely to be used offline all the time, I may not have the time to update it to Lollipop.
I will check out other sites, too, though.
Thanks,

How do I unroot and reflash stock ROM onto AT&T G930A S7?

I am trying to unroot my phone. I have a US version of G930A. Sammobile has every county except the USA. I found G930AATT1APB5_User_Binary.zip which has AP_G930AUCU1APB5_CL7193387_QB8719495_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar, the BL, CP and CSC file in it. I try to flash it using Odin3, and I get an "odin protocol version error." I take it because the image is a lower version that's what's on there. I would like to download the latest stock image but sammobile doesn't offer images for the US? Or is there a better way?
Wrong forum. This here is for SM-G930F Development, not Q&A. You'll get the answers you're seeking and more, at the S7 AT&T Q&A and Dev forums. Mod, please move - thanks.
Wrong forum. But try using Kies in Download mode
That is what i do when ever i restore my phone.
No Kies good lord. This isn't a Note 2.
You're getting that error because you're on newer firmware than you're trying to flash so it's erroring out.
Follow the Return to stock procedure in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...sed-unroot-t3411039/post67605246#post67605246
Flash all 4 files, then you'll be on PF2 and able to get the OTA Update to PG1 with wifi calling, etc.
I tried using kies. It asks me for my model. I put in SM-G930A. The serial I put in all caps and it tells me my model number I entered is wrong.

Which Odin are you using?
You're flashing the PF2?
I've tried many versions of Odin v1 (not the 3). I'm not sure what the PF2 is.
To get it to work, I just defaulted the phone and rerooted it. It's the only way I can get it to work. It's working perfect right now. Only question is how long,

for g930a (galaxy s7 at&t NOT EDGE)
WARNING: YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA MAKE A BACKUP
download these files:
Odin: http://www.mediafire.com/download/2t...din_3.12.3.rar
Flashing Files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B17...w?usp=drivesdk
After downloading extract the .rar extract it then extract each, BL, AP, ect... files. Use the odin included in the download to flash and you will be returned to stock. If the odin included still gives you the error you can get the princecomsey version and see if that works from here: http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/tools/ODIN/ODIN-modified.zip
If odin freezes or crashes just restart it and try again, it might take a while foor the AP file to load into odin so just be patient and if it looks like it is about to crash wait about 2-3 minutes then force close it and try again.
Now you are returned to stock an all set !!
(p.s) - PF2 is the latest firmware as of now for the g930a, meaning when you flash this you will be all set. You may have tried to flash the original PF which is now outdated cause AT&T updated it, I did this and it worked but i could not update my phone so I flashed this one and it works perfectly and Samsung pay is up and running.

i9505 still stuck at 4.2.2! Says "latest update installed". Help!

Hi guys,
I got this phone about 2 years back from a store in the middle east and it turned out later that this device was actually from a swiss carrier - Swisscom. It was unlocked so it didn't really matter at the time. Ever since then it hasn't updated to any of the latest android versions. It always says "latest updates installed", even with Kies. It wasn't really an issue before, but now a lot of apps just crash constantly. Anyone knows how to fix this?
If the phone is not in its home region it won't get updates. Download one of the unbranded ROMs from sammobile.com and flash it via Odin.
Look for the latest rom on sammobile.com and flash via Odin.

What if I want to install CM? Should I follow the same steps and just change the file chosen to CM? Or there's something else to be done too? These were the instructions:
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.11.1
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v3.11.1
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA - right here? I'll chose CM firmware. Will that do?

No. Flashing a custom ROM (CM) is a completely different procedure. There are guides online.
For cm, you should flash twrp via Odin. After flashing Odin, you can save the cm rom to the phone's internal or external memory, boot into twrp, and flash cm and gapps from twrp.
Personally, with all the bugs Cyanogenmod has in it, I'd rather flash AOSP on the S4. But that has nothing to do with your actual question, which @audit13 answered succinctly in the previous post.
Alright, thank you guys! I've decided to go with the official firmware, as given on sammobile. Just one last question. On sammobile there are various versions for my phone. Should I be downloading the "Swisscomm" variant again? I'm in the US now and I don't want to be stuck without an update. Can I install the US version? Or even an open international version, so that I don't get stuck again.

If you are not carrier locked, then yes.

[Firmware] G950UOYN2BQK5

This is the latest OTA Update for all major carriers. THIS WILL UPDATE YOUR BOOTLOADER SO THERE IS NO GOING BACK! I'm downloading, uploading to my Google Drive and posting this here as reference.
And of course, after flashing this in Odin you can go to https://samsung.firmware.science and chose QK5 to whichever Oreo Beta is latest or you can enjoy having the latest flashable update.

Uploaded. I already removed the .md5 off the end of the files, just extract and flash away
How do you go about flashing this? Flashing my S5 there was only one file and you loaded that into the AP slot in Odin. With the S8 software it looks like there are 5 separate files. Do you only flash the AP file or all of them? Also, I tried another firmware that was supposed to be Verizon firmwareand had some cricket and metropcs apps installed. Will this be the Verizon firmware that came with the phone from the factory or is it like the other firmware I downloaded and installed from Sammobile? Thanks for any help on this. Trying to get my phone back to how it was when I took it out of the box.

The link you posted is dead. Have any other mirrors possibly?
