2 LineageOS Upgrade Questions (Pixel XL/Marlin) - LineageOS News & Discussion

When it came time to update to 17 I kept putting it off and forgot about it, now we have 18.1 for Pixel XL (marlin/first gen). Is it safe to just update from 16.0 (2/20/2020) to the current 18.1 with the instructions on LineageOS.org (boot into sideload, sideload image, reboot)?
Also, the instructions say that when you boot into sideload you may get a black screen; that is what happened the last time I booted into sideload mode (didn't actually sideload anything; realized I'd forgotten to download the image...) and I couldn't get out of sideload until the LineageOS recovery screen suddenly appeared seemingly out of nowhere. How do I get out of sideload mode if all I have is a black screen? I ask about this because no button or combination of buttons would make the phone do anything other than turn off and boot right back into sideload and I don't know why Recovery finally came up or if it will do it again if this happens again; recovery just appeared after a couple of minutes as I was finishing up typing a post begging for help....
Edit: Now I see I put this in the wrong section; I would move it but there doesn't appear to be an option. Sorry for not paying more attention!

Tried to root, recovery flashed but didn't boot, now phone won't reboot.

Hey guys and gals, I decided to take my new PH-1 and root it after getting the latest OTA (this is an unlocked Sprint variant). I flashed the twrp for my build and there was an error, tried it again and the same error so I rebooted back into fastboot and it flashed but I didn't reboot into recovery. Flashed it again and booted into recovery but it was just a black screen as if the phone wasn't turned on. The closest I've gotten to recovery was the android laying down and it said "no command" but I forced a reboot at that point (I think I could have pressed up on the volume and pressed the power button to get to it from there but I haven't been able to get back to it).
I ended up flashing a modded boot image for root with Magisk 14.3 and that worked but I can't reboot my phone, it just goes to the blank screen like it isn't on and I can start it up again by holding the power button down for 15 sec. and it seems to function fine but I can't flash the OTA file to go back to complete stock or to go to the Oreo beta.
If anyone could give me some insight into this problem or a way of fixing it I would grateful, thank you.

Bricked? Or just me?

Hello everybody
After i have installed Linage 14 everything was working great, i installed Magisk 15 and ended in a bootloop. Then i made a restore in TWRP and now i only get red and blue square on a green background when i start it up. Gets to EMUI recovery, but cant get to TWRP or Fastboot at all. Anyone have an ideer to what i can do?
The Huawei Logo aint coming anymore
I have just now come to Fastboot screen, but suddenly my phone is locked. I cant get to details of my phone so not able to get oem code again. Is there a way to get TWRP installed again. Seems like everything is ****ed
I have exactly the same problem after installing Magisk 15 on my P9.
DAMN
Go to fastboot mode and boot to recovery from there with ADB.

MI A1 can't boot in either stock or custom rom

Hi all,
I hope someone can guide me through. My MI A1 device has suddenly stopped booting for no reason. To fix up I tried many thing but with no luck.
here is link to one of the thread I have followed
Reddit thread
This guy exactly had the same issue as mine but on different model and I followed all the instruction as in this thread.
Summary of things I tried so far (Including instructions from the thread I mentioned) :
- Try mi flash tool to flash stock rom (Which succeeds and nothing actually works )
- Tried my luck with lineage os 17 and GPAPPS but no luck. (Interestingly, when I Install LOS and I the reboot device, it boots in LOS recovery fine but when I try to boot system it just keep rebooting and then finally stops at charging screen.)
PS. One more observation, when I flash it with MIflash tool with stock rom and it boots up for the first time, an intermediate screen with circle logo and erasing text appears just like when we get update screen not sure why!
Guys, this is my last bet on XDA. I almost wasted my whole day searching for solution on #Youtube and other forums, nearly read a ton of things but still no luck!
Please Help!
UPDATE :
Here is a little more progress,
So, I tried flashing the original stock rom boot image with fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
and as usual first it just got rebooted with no luck but later somehow booted the device. I tried the same with recursion OS ROM and then again flashed boot image and just like prev attempt it rebooted first & then booted normally.
Also, when device was booted normally, I received a call and when I tried to pick it, It just got rebooted and I am where I started!
I really don't get the point why it boot when I manually boot it with fastboot and its not able to boot itself.
Anyone knows, why this is happening? Is there a way to clean whole and then install? am I doing something wrong here?
Update :
Yes, confirmed when I flash the boot image from fastboot it does boots up. the only problem is after a few seconds/minutes it just reboot and goes back to problematic state.
This thing is really pissing me off! Can someone help?
Update:
After a few more attempts now, it seems like the device is completely broken! It only boots up in fastboot and does not even boot in recovery ( Volume up + Power)
I also tried with pushing twrp recovery image with fastboot but even though the command succeeds the device just reboots with MI logo continuously.

Help with OnePlus 5 bootloop LineageOS 20

Hello,
I got a OnePlus 5 running OxygenOS 10, the latest version provided by OnePlus. The phone was rooted and with TWRP 3.4.0.1. I made a full backup and have it in my computer. I deleted all data with TWRP and flashed the LineageOS 20 rom for cheeseburger (lineage-20.0-20230227-nightly-cheeseburger-signed.zip). The installation ends successfully but on the 1st start when the system starts, it remains in bootloop on the lineageos logo. the LineageOS display is also displayed when recharging the smartphone.
In terms of status, here are the points at my disposal:
Phone can't stay in fastboot mode, it pops up for a moment then goes away.
The TWRP bootloop recovery also, impossible to access the usual menus, it remains on the logo and the version.
adb commands don't seem to respond because not recognized.
The maximum I could get by doing fastboot devices is the device in recovery status or unknown status.
What can you advise me to unblock the situation?
I searched the forum but unfortunately it often comes up on the adb or via twrp.
Thank you very much for your help,
