Android TV and game controllers. - Android TV General

Hello,
I am new with Android TV. I bought a Tictid D1 Max Android TV box, and I am trying to play games using game controllers.
But I have had time to let game controller work with it.
- Xbox One controller :
I tried an Xbox One controller (in bluetooth) which does work very well with an Android tablet (almost all games work fine on my tablet with the Xbox One controller).
But on my Android TV box, no success with this controller (the box does recognize the controller, I can use the controller to move inside the Android menus, but no game work with it).
- Bluetooth Switch controller compatible with Android and PC :
only one game worked.
- 2.4 Ghz multi platform controller (PS3 / PC / Android / Android TV) :
So far this one had the best results, but still very bad results : 3 games out of 20 tested were working fine (and I tried to switch the controller in all PC / Android modes).
So here are my questions :
- as it seems to be a software issue on my Android TV box (input drivers ?), I wonder if this problem is specific to my Tictid D1 Max box, or if this is the case for all Android TV boxes ?
- is there an app which would increase the game controllers compatibility with Android TV games ?
- is there a specific game controller which is known to be working with almost all games on Android TV ?
Thanks !

Something like the Rii RK707 might work. I have one & it works fine on PC & Android, but I haven't tested it much with Android games. It's also not as ergonomic as a dedicated controller.

Xoom + SNES emulator + bluetooth PS3 controller = Awesome

Hi All,
I wanted to share my experience to make it easy for you to play old Skool SNES roms using SNES emulator with wireless gamepad. This will save you some trips to the store. Many instructions indicate that you can hookup the PS3 DualShock 3 SixAxis controller to your Xoom tablet using an OTG cable. These are available on Ebay. I didn't want to wait that long and found that it would be cumbersome to have a wired connector to the bottom of my tablet that is standing up or on its docking station. So the following is how I got it working via Bluetooth.
1. Xoom must be rooted
2. Download from Andoid market the SixAxis controller checker (free)
This will check to see if you tablet is compatible, will save you from buying controller, unless you already have a PS3 (I don't)
3. If step 2 is a go, then buy a PS3 DualShock SixAxis controller (I got the blue one for about 58$ Canadian)
**write down your tablets bluetooth network mac code, will need later.
4. Go to the following website: (cant post weblink on forum cuz im a noob but try www . dancing pixel studios . com - sixaxiscontroller - tool . html)
Download the tool, install, then plug your PS3 controller via USB to your PC
5. PS3 controller drivers will install and the program will recognize your controller.
6. Update the controllers master address with the one noted in step 3.
7. Once completed, go on Android Market and buy (2.99$) the SixAxis controller program, install on tablet.
8. Start this program, it will turn on bluetooth and listen for game controller.
9. Turn on your game controller (make discoverable), the tablet will find the device and pair easily.
10. Then you can try the free version of SuperGNES from the Android Market, is fully functions except you can't save your game data. It will work on Honeycomb version and ICS version.
11. Download some SNES roms to your tablet and you're in business. I can't tell you where to get them but if you google SNES roms you are sure to find some.
I hope this makes it easier for everyone, for a 2.99 investment, this is going to make my next business trip on the long plane ride a lot more fun.
With the latest version of Sixaxis Controller, you can elimate steps 3-6. All you need to do is plug the controller in with a usb OTG cable, and the app has a pair controller button, takes less then 10 seconds, and your up and running, no worry about mistyping or messing anything up. Just unplug once it's paired, hit the PS button and your cooking with gas.
What is the best SNES emulator? once upon a time wasn't it snesoid - http://slideme.org/application/snesoid?
is there anyway to use the bluetooth for ps3 without being rooted?
I like this but instead of playing SNES games I use mine with the Mame emulator & my PS3 controller
An Xoom + PS3 pad + a MAME emulator & plenty of old skool Street Fighter games = 1 very happy man :-D

For those who arent rooted, or just want an easier alternative, the Gamestop android game controller works perfectly with all emulators and a large portion of android games without any additional software. Just pair it with the Xoom and you are off and running.
Snes 9x EX is free for the full version.
I'm not rooted or anything but I use the wii controller with all the " oid" emulators . rom buddy app+ wiimote & wiimote controller apps = hours of fun. Tecmo bowl anyone?

I have used Xbox emulation, RetroArch emulator and any other emulator, but I am greatly satisfied with RetroArch emulator.

PS3 Sixaxis works wonderfully with Note

I wanted to post a quick note about game controllers for the Note.
Can't speak for everybody, but I have found in hard to find definitive information on what gamepads will or won't work with the Note. I had previously tried all different combinations. Xbox wired controllers. Wiimotes over bluetooth, and even 2 different Onlive controllers. In all cases the results were mixed.
So, I sort of gambled and bought a Wired Sony Sixaxis controller. It works perfectly! This is a Sony branded official Playstation controller.
For the record, its a wired version, I connected to the Note with an USB OTB adapter. It connects from the mini USB port with a female USB end.
I was able to use the controller for several Android Market games, including Grand Theft Auto, and Shadowgun. Also, I connected to Onlive and was able to use the controller without issue.
I have not tried any emulators (not my thing) and I found at least one game that "should" work does not. That's PES 2012. In fairness, I may not have the right version. In theory, anything Xperia Play Optimized on the Market should work.
The best part was that I got the controller for $30 at my local gamestop.
Hope this helps someone.
Don't know if this works with wired controllers but has some nice extra features for wireless sixaxis controllers.
- Keyboard emulation. Map all buttons and sticks to almost any key available in Android.
- Mouse emulation. Configure a button to activate the mouse pointer on devices that support mice (most tablets, and many phones should work).
- Touch emulation allows you to map buttons and analog sticks to the screen. Play all your favourite games with full analog support, even those without built-in controller support!

Have seen this but haven't tried it, looks like it adds the same features as the sixaxis app.

How did you get SixAxis and the PS3 controller to work on Shadowgun?
I have the app, PS3 controller and connect wirelessly via Bluetooth. The controller paired just fine with my AT&T Note. I fired up Grand Theft Auto and the controller works just fine with no additional setup.
For Shadowgun, though, nothing works.

On external controllers

Hello everybody,
I like playing games on my phone a lot, yet i really don't like the touch screen controls, for lack of feedback and responsiveness, therefore i am in the market for an external controller.
I have simple requirements for it :
>Must use Bluetooth connection since my phone (OPPO find 5) does not support OTG
>Must be compatible with my windows 8 laptop
>Must be compatible with Android emulators like FPSe and NESoid emulators
>should have 2 analog sticks
>Should be easy to set up
What do you guys suggest?
Why don't you just use a PS3 controller in combination with sixaxis controller?
Odds are that you already have one, so you don't have to bother searching for one.
The only downside is that you cannot use the controller on your PS3 again, unless you restore the default bluetooth adress of the controller. So be sure to write it down somewhere before changing it.
No need to write anything down.ps3 controllers auto pair when u connect them via usb. ..
Scribed henceforth from thy G pad.

Fire TV stick works with limelight

Sideloaded Limelight with the FireTV utility
Connected my Ouya bluetooth controller
Used Settings.apk and connected my HP bluetooth keyboard and mouse to the fire TV stick
Now playing all my steam games on the stick, streaming at 30 fps, just letting people know it works.
Need a better controller because the ouya doesn't have a start and select button but meh.
How to Sideload apps ==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/fire-tv-stick-how-to-sideload-install-t2954744
Limelight Use non rooted ==> https://github.com/limelight-stream/limelight-android/releases
Settings apk i downloaded from this ==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714494
Hey buddy, what is your complete set up like? Do you have a Dual Band router? Why are you getting 30 FPS? I should be getting my Stick soon so I am just wondering if 60 FPS is even possible on that hardware.
Also is that 720p30 or 1080p30?
Tested it at 1080p with 30 fps, dual band router, I have an ouya controller which i know works under andriod, but it doesn't have a start and select button, so i'm concidering getting one of the amazon controllers instead, the settings.apk will allow you to attach a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Okay thanks for getting back to us, one more question though; whats the benefit of side-loading limelight on there? Why not just get limelight from the Amazon's Appstore? I installed limelight from that store and it seems to be working fine, but I could not get my controller connected as of yet so couldn't fully test it.
how do you pair the moga to the fire tv? neither the controller setting in the UI finds it, nor the settings apk finds it but never says connected
I don't know, I don't have the moga, but you should be able to put it into bluetooth pairing mode and use the UI of the stick, it says it supports the moga.. I've paired an Ouya and a Nyko Playpad pro, which is what i'm currently using and works great (after firmware update) like a 360 controller.
works great but my bluetooth mouse is really laggy

Every input device in Limelight is going to be laggy. The FTV box is never going to get less than 40ms lag in Limelight no matter what, and the stick's specs are quite a bit worse than the box, so don't expect any miracles. I've been playing GTAV all day today through Limelight on my FTV and it works fairly well as long as auto aim is turned on, but precision aiming just isn't realistic with this much lag.

Wrong mapping on some games with C.T.R.L.R

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with the CTRLR controller (the one sold with the MOJO or one purchased separately).
Some games do not recognize the gamepad, or with wrong mapping.
For example, on the game "Horizon Chase" ( seems great), nothing works except start and back buttons.
But a wired Xbox 360 pad works perfectly.
Also, there are no changes between the gamesmart and pc mode.
I tested the pad on my LG G3 with the same game, and same result.
My Mojo runs on CyanogenMod 12.1.
Anyone has a solution to fix this ?
Maybe a config file to add or an app who emulate the xbox 360 layout?...
Thanks,
