[Q] It is important to update the Firmware before Installing a Custom Rom ?

Hello Everyone,
I've been reading the "Ultimate Guide to the Huawei U8800" at the Modaco Android Forum, and until know I've been able to root my phone, install the recovery and fix the reversed Camera Bug.
But the fallowing part of the Tutorial talks about Firmware Update, is this really important before installing a Custom Rom ? And, if it is can anyone explain me why ?

Well someone here at xda wrote that with the newest firmware you get a baseband-update for some devices (he was not sure I think). I did not apply the newest firmware, maybe it was already installed, at least I did not encounter any problems.
You cannot break anything by applying the newest update from Huawei. So if you want to make sure, go ahead. Just do not stick to the Huawei-ROM. Do yourself a favor and install void, Oxygen oder Miui. I use Oxygen, it is based on Android 2.3.5 which is just very fast and the battery lasts about 2 days. You won't get much support for the Huawei-ROMs and there are some bugs. But there also are bugs with the custom-ROMs, so read the description first.

I would strongly suggest updating to the latest B138/B162 before installing a custom Rom. To my knowledge, a stock Rom installation does the firmware upgrade on the screen/internal modules as well.

As long as yours is a U8800 and not U8800H, then you should be just fine.

B138/B162 are the same?
I thought that B162 was newer than B13x versions.

They are not the same. B13x are generally made for the whole world, except China. Being the home country, China has a dedicated set of Roms - B158, B160, B162 versions.
B138 is as new as B162, they were both released at the same time. I don't like B162, the icons and interface are slightly different.
I would recommend B137/B138, preferably 138 as it has the latest drivers.

Advise
For those that want to update the firmware of their devices, don't worry (I was very scary indeed :S), the phone will boot, and reboot, and reboot, and reboot .... until you see and Android screen ^^
OH THE CAMERA IS SO FAST COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL FIRMWARE !!! Thank you ! A lot really

I've used all roms and they work very well (I still prefer Oxygen), but I cannot use them because they need and External SD Card to take picture and listen to Music....
So until there I have no choice that stay with the Original Rom :S...
If only I can help solve the problem...

Ok thx. I want to know how to take firmware stock if also Huawei never released them on its server. Probably some1 has hacked or done something cause on the net I can see also p9 and p9+ different stock firmware but I can't see them on the real place where they need to be (Huawei site).

You may google it, but only thing that google offers is b130. As for hisuite, it is not like odin for samsung devices, it is more like kies, so you cannot update your phone with downloaded update, only by using OTA, but sometimes your phone does not get OTA update, it depends on many things, IMEI number, cust and so on. But i suggest to try to download b130 and update it. I had a similar problem, my p9lite was stuck at b105. I downloaded b121, update it using sd card. Now it's on b131.
BTW, it is not latest official firmware, latest from september 10th is B151

FRD-AL10 and FRD-AL00 use the same ROM.

Bad news: it seems that HUAWEI stops to provide individual update files from EMUI4.1 onwards. Only eRecovery from HUAWEI is allowed to use for future upgrade.

What is the eRecovery? and how we can get it (I mean on which web site) and how we can flash it to our phone? can you explain that please! thanks in advanced.

eRecovery is built in latest EMUI ROM from 4.1 and it acts just like any other recovery.

Found ZUI 3.1.050 DEV OFFICIAL For Zuk Z2 **Leaked**

I was surfing on the web and i found a chinesse Baidu forum talking about the Zui 3.1 Official Rom,

Yes, it has english languaje. You need to do wape for flash that rom because (very) probably your ROM is not official dev.

When only wipe cache/dalvik was done after flashing was complete - all was good and phone boots OS, when I tried to follow steps which were mentioned on zukfans (https://zukfans.eu/community/threads/zui-3-1-050-dev.6940/) I've entered a bootloop with "ZUK" logo.
I made clean install of 2.5.412 via QFIL, unlocked bootloader, TWRP, dirty flash DEV zip, no problems.

Please can someone install camera2probe app on this New Rom and confirm the status of Hal3 (Level_3 Should be green). If so this might be a great update.

I don't know why Zuk/Lenovo is so reluctant about our device. Even Redmi Note 3 supports Level_3 Camera2api. This is bad. The 2015 Moto X has it enabled. Why not ours?!

1. There is no modem in this zip.
2. This ROM isn't specific to my country too, but I haven't problems with network.
3. I've flashed 2.5.412 and than 3.1.050.

The Baseband you have is from 2016. Can be a little buggy with gps. Flash the one I said, highly stable and no bugs. Proof is that RR dev MR.HACKER5476 made it the common baseband for his roms.

I didn't do it on all ROMs that I've tested. I haven't problems with GPS. I'm managing threads about custom and stock firmware and see that it isn't a final solution if you face with problems related to network. On any ROM with any baseband you may face with problems.
I haven't problems, so I don't need to do redundant actions.

Who have synced Contacts from Google account? Did you get photos synced too?
For me only Contacts was synced, without photos. Sync is on.

I already have unlocked my bootloader and have TWRP. Can I just flash this like a usual rom zip and do I need to upgrade to a particular TWRP and a vbmeta file?

Unfortunately from what I've seen no this won't work on the Chinese version... Unsure about a release date.
