Hello! I've been looking around for an ad-free version of Twitch but I've so far only found one that's incompatible with android tv os, and another one made for TV was outdated and had internet issues with login. So I was thinking maybe theres a modified apk or possibly changing the hosts file? And if it makes any difference then I'm running it on a CCwGTV.
Appreciate any help!

Hi,
I'm looking to create a tv live streaming app and I need some guidance about the server needed and libraries codes to start.
Thanks!
are you going to start your own streaming server or only a streaming client?
I've develop my own tv streaming app and use Vitamio library.
What is the deal with chromecast support but apps not finding it?
So youtube on my phone chromecasts with no issues to the fire tv stick. My chrome browser can't find it any chromecast devices.
Google search just find product reviews with no details.

You aren't "chromecasting" to YouTube or Netflix. That functionality is built into those apps specifically. AFAIK the fire TV does not have chromecast support.
For example, my dish network hopper has a Netflix app now and I can start a show on it from my phone using the Netflix app, but it is not "chromecasting".
Apparently they've added them in a update, anyone with a UK Sony tv able to pull and post them?
If you're saying that there's a BBC iPlayer app for Android TV that works with a remote, then I too hope that someone fills this request. It would be interesting to try it out on the Nexus Player.

Yeah BBC iPlayer, BBC News and BBC Sports were all on the Sony android tv I tried in John Lewis. Hopefully someone with one can figure it out and post them.
I'm looking for the same thing for the Australian Catch-up TV apps too.
My theory was to try and pull an update from the Sony support web site and extract the apps from there
(e.g. UK: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/KD-55X8505C)
I've only looked briefly, but it's not obvious what the file format is though.
From what I've read, the Sony TVs might use a MediaTek SoC (arm based) whereas the Nexus Player is x86, so I'm unsure if this will even work.
I can help extract from the update pkg, if only i could open the pkg file on my mac... any help here?

Hey, There are some 3rd party apps available for ABC, and SBS at this thread http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2447003
I would happily post this and any other UK apps that you guys want, however, I cannot seem to find the iplayer apk or any of the other catchup channel apks. The only one that I can find in relation to catchup services is the youview apk.
It's possible that the youview apk contains all the other catchup apks as the catchup services are integrated into youview.
The only way of using youview is setting it as the default tuner for the TV and it then takes over as the EPG and actual TV watching app.
It's also possible that installing the youview apk will also install the catchup services (iplayer, all4 etc...) and you could choose not to use youview as the main TV tuner but still get the other apps.
Hopefully this all makes sense.
I have looked in system apps and user apps during my search, if there is anywhere else to hunt these apks down in the file system then please point me to it.

This isn't to do with the Sony apps or the VouView app, but there is also a Nvidia Shield iPlayer apk specifically for Android TV that would probably be better to approach for getting iPlayer working on the Nexus Player.
This obviously doesn't fix the problem of 4OD and the other YouView apps, as they're probably not standalone apps, but at least it's one step closer, and would hopefully get iPlayer working at the very least. The iPlayer app consists of 2 parts, there's the main app which is just iPlayer, and there is an add-on app that adds BBC News & Sports, but it's required you have iPlayer installed to use them. And, of course. Because Nvidia made them, they're probably restricted to the Nvidia Shield, though I don't know as I haven't seen anyone else test them on the Nexus Player yet.
Here's a link to download the latest versions of both the iPlayer and Add-ons apks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63331976&postcount=34l=0
(I looked for this but search seems to be busted)
Anyone know the situation with getting live TV on the Shield? I bought one to replace the Android TV function of my POS Philips 4K TV, which is so full of bugs as to be unusable and no fix coming from Philips. So far everything is great - fast, remote works all the time, stable - but no TV. I'd like to get my channels working with Live Channels because of the superior UI and the ability to record in the future. Don't want to use kodi or any other third-party TV apps.
I set up a dvblogic server on my NAS and using their beta dvblogic Live app am able to see the guide and switch channels in Live Channels but it doesn't correctly identify language tracks and subtitles don't work at all, and dvblogic have announced that they are abandoning the app's development to concentrate on their own fugly, proprietary app.
I saw that someone has released a hacked kernel with support for USB tuners, though it's for making Kodi work; in theory from what I've read about live channels it ought to just sort of work with supported tuners. Has anyone tried this?
Aside from the hacked kernel are there any other options? I have both DVB-T and IPTV available to me, and while I'd prefer IPTV I'll take whatever I can get. I was sort of hoping that when I connected the Shield to my router it would just find the IPTV channels and put them in the guide. Silly me.
Why dont you just IPTV Pro, there is a free version on Google Play Store. Im using it and its works perfectly with no problems...
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I think the best solution with a NAS is :
- tvheadend server on the NAS with a tuner
- tvheadend client on the shield : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ie.macinnes.tvheadend
But if you have IPTV, it's the easiest solution
You can use Cumulus TV to add m3u8 files in Android Live Channels : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.felkertech.n.cumulustv
Hauppauge
hi
I am trying to get my usb Hauppauge DVB-T2 working on my NVIDIA shield. I have been looking how to do this for several days and cant find any answers that work for me.
I have installed HDHomerun so i can see the live channels app. I also have a VPN and have set it to the USA. I dont want to pay plex.
If anyone can give me a step by step on how to get this working would be great?
Do you want to watch live TV on your phone? It turns out that you have a wide range of options to choose from, with the majority of them being reasonably priced. We looked at a variety of live TV apps, going over listings and other people's recommendations before trying them out and selecting the ones we thought were good enough to recommend.
I have "Toshiba 43" 4K UHD HDR LED Fire Smart TV (43LF711C20)" with Dolby Vision support.
When I try to play movie from network share the picture is green/violet. I tried different players from app store with same result
Did I miss something?
Try getting a different copy of the movie from somewhere else - the copy you have might be corrupt.

This indicates that the TV is not getting and decoding the DoVi layer. In order to get DoVi to work on many TVs you have to switch HDMI format from standard to enhanced. I don't think that this applies to the TVs internal apps and OS but it might be good to look for something like that.
Have you set dynamic range to adaptive under fireOS settings? Is this happening in multiple apps?
This TV has VERY limited settings
Here is no such parameter.
It made to show you as much as possible paid promotions.
I use NOVA player to play movies stored on NAS.

Ah ok, yeah I was wondering if you were talking about commercial apps or video players.
A lot of video players don't support DoVi. I don't think Nova Player does:
Dolby Vision doesn't work · Issue #383 · nova-video-player/aos-AVP
I just tried two Dolby Vision files with the latest Google Play release, and neither displayed DV. File 1 (No HDR10): https://sylvan.apple.com/Aerials/2x/Videos/SE_A016_C009_HDR_20190717_3m30s_HDR_...

I haven't had any major problems playing DoVi in Plex. The one problem I have noticed is that DoVi files using an .MP4 containers don't play without a lot of buffering. Remuxing to MKV (MKVtoolnix) makes them play fine.
So the good news is it isn't you, it's your app.

Yeah, Plex is for streaming videos from another device like a laptop.
If you really want to play files locally off of a flash drive, I tested a couple players
MPV - No
Nova Player - No
VLC - No
Just Player - Yes

But if you want a simple light weight player, go with Just Player
I have also heard MX Player works, but I haven't tried it.

I would see if you can install the Plex server on the DLink NAS and then run the Plex client on the FireTV. This will give you the most pleasant and lightweight interface.
You will have to see if it's possible to install.
Add-on "Plex Media Server v1.14.1.5488" for D-Link NAS

There seems to be a installer package for a few DLINK models, the last update in from 2020 though.
Plex covers quite a few NAS options

I'm not sure if Just Player can access a NAS, it doesn't look like it.
If you can't get the Plex Server installed, Kodi can play from a NAS. Kodi is a favorite of a lot of people.

You can still use Kodi, a lot of people prefer it over Plex anyway.
Again, I could not make it work with NAS

Kodi is very flexible, but at the cost of more complicated.
Does your DLink NAS use SMB for network sharing?

If you haven't sideloaded apps on your FireTV yet, Kodi might have a steep learning curve. You are going to need to do some googling.
