I may be wrong about this, so correct me if I’m wrong but, Widevine can change depending on how you install a rom, if you flash a recovery image and side load the rom it is most probable that you’ll get Widevine L3 (at least in my experience) (I sideloaded 7 roms in a span of a month and all got L3), if you use fastbootrom installer you’ll get L1 ( tried it 3 times and still got L1 every time) or it could be that the rom doesn’t support widevine L1. just want to see everyone’s experience with Widevine.
I always use sideload instead of fastboot installer and I always have L1. It doesn't matter what ROM I flash.
I say it's more hardware related
Same T-Mobile version
Same conversion, root, and update method
Old one got L1
New one got L3

Since our Axon 7 only supports Widevine L3 (L1 is needed for HD Streaming on Netflix), does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Not sure but you could probably take the DRM libs from a Pixel factory image.
Don't think it can be done on our end
I was looking for this sort of thing, but only found a pdf from widevine (google Widevine_DRM_Getting_Started_Devices). I don't really see how this could be done. L1 requires a locked bootloader but it's only necessary for certification requirements during the manufacturer's demonstration (as far as I can tell from this document).
Officially ZTE need to submit for certification and get themselves an L1 device key from Widevine. Another requirement for L1 is that this key isn't software accessible or is wiped after unlocking the bootloader, which makes that (alot) trickier. Unofficially, [I guess] you need an leaked certified-device key and have to spoof present this (and the fact you are device X) to Widevine for every request. Bit of a nightmare from that perspective.
@ Lycidias,
ZTE would consider to apply the L1 DRM latter.
Thanks for your suggestion!
That's one main reason I sold my Axon 7.

Hello,
I bought some months ago my XC to install SailfishOS. So I recently unlocked the phone and installed SFOS but...I totally forgot to save the DRM keys required to enable the camera full resolution.
Now, I'm not ready to use this XC + SFOS as my daily driver. I plan to sell it, but I need to restore Android back. I just would like to know if there is a way to "fully restore" it, understand with full camera capabilities?
Thanks.

Pretty sure drm keys are unrecoverable. There is a 'drm fix', which mimics the functions lost by wiping ta, but it's a recovery-flashable zip. I guess you could factory reset, root, and install drm fix, and sell it that way...
Problem with that approach is, the buyer of the phone won't be able to do software update for security patch or android p(if by some luck we'll get it). Another problem is, unless you install magisk, they won't be able to download netflix (due to saftey net check). And when safety net is updated, they might need to update magisk.
But overall i agree with above, that is the best way of getting all functionality "back".

You receive OTA updates no matter if you have TWRP or not.
But for the automatic OTA to execute, you need stock Recovery (you can always flash to switch from stock recovery to TWRP and vice versa)
Alternatively, you can download OTA zip and install theough TWRP
There are really many threads about (it's not specific for this or that Xiaomi phone) and generally info on Internet.
Please take your time, search, read, do your homework, get informed

Sorry, I'm not using/did not need Mi Flash and besides, I remember that when I was interested in and I was looking for, I found many and good guides here on XDA, on Internet and YT
Hence again, if you are interested in something, take your time, search, read, Google is your friend - as all of us do when we need something new
If too complicated to search and learn, better stay on stock bcs sooner or later (if you didn't do the homework and learnt it good by reading varios guides yourself) you will make a mistake, get a brick and start asking for help. And it's always hard to help to newbies who just jumped into something, without studying and well understanding things themselves (they don't know to describe the problem, what they did to come to brick, they don't nunderstand instructions experienced users give them, it becomes a waste of time)
Sorry, but that's the way it goes

If you ever messed with Persist (flashed over, wiped), you lost Widevine L1 and forever. Unfortunately, some AOSP custom ROMs also overwrite Persist and you loose L1
Hi,
For context, I've been custom romming and rooting for probably over 10 years by now so I know quite well how this works but this device is a new challenge.
I've tried numerous methods on the internet and XDA but apart from softbricking (and restoring every time, msm tool), I just can't get it to work.
Had multiple Qualcomm crash dumps and currently stuck in the bootloader unlocked message. I can still reach fastboot.
All I want is the most recent LineageOS (or preferably dotOS but with the last version Bluetooth audio wasn't working. I managed to flash this one successfully until everything started to go wrong) with Magisk and xposed (or lsposed).
Can someone point me to a resource which most probably would work? I both have Linux and Windows VM's (not macOS) so that's not an issue.
Thanks!
So I’m thinking about using MSM Tool to restore my OP8 Pro right now so I can fully update and get my firmware up to date for the new Lineage OS 19.1 builds, however, there isn’t a full update file available for that required update, only an incremental, hence needing to use the application to roll back to older software and apply each incremental. Seeing as I was on Lineage 18 before, I’m not using stock, and my attempt to update things didn’t go smoothly, as half the hardware is malfunctioning in LOS19. So, I’ve got a few questions as I’ve never used MSM Tool before:
1. I’ve read that using it breaks the fingerprint sensor calibration after the restore. I have a backup of my persist partition which should help me with fixing that, but it seems that root is required to fix that. Is it also possible to just take my backed up persist partition and write it back using fastboot to fix the issue? I know there’s already a set of instructions but I’m not sure if there’s perhaps an easier way.
2. Should I have to root to fix that partition, would that break my ability to install OTAs? If I recall, unlocking the bootloader stops OTAs from working.
Basically, what’s the best path to take such I can ensure my fingerprint scanner still works, but I can fully update the stock software so I can meet the requirements of the new Lineage update? (Perhaps be able to keep the bootloader locked after all is said and done to ensure everything is 100% stock again)
