Hey all,
Recently I have heard a lot of talk about how t-mobile has altered their network and speculation as to how to get the fastest connections.
I ran several speed tests while connected to each one, and here are the averages.
I found a list of the APNs athttp://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/T-Mobile_APNs
BTW, I have the unlimited internet, so I can do this without getting charged for bandwidth, don't do this if you don't have an actual data plan!
I have not tested the latency with the T-MobileWeb proxy.
internet2.voicestream.com
66kbit/s average speed.
85kbit/s fastest, 43kbit/s slowest.
1.12s average latency.
0.69s fastest, 1.65s slowest.
wap.voicestream.com
54kbit/s average speed.
92kbit/s fastest, 24kbit/s slowest.
1.58 average latency,
1.26s fastest, 2.04s slowest
epc.tmobile.com
55kbit/s average speed.
93kbit/s fastest, 28kbit/s slowest.
1.75s average latency.
1.48s fastest, 1.95s slowest.
The raw numbers are attached.
I also wasn't able to get internet3.voicestream.com to work at all, can anyone connect to that APN?
If so can you please run 5 or 6 speed tests at http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed and post averages?
thanks 4 this!
so which one have you settled on(fastest most reliable in your opinion)?
thx again!
Any new connections we can use?
Also, which is the most reliable?
I have not been able to runs several tests and post them, but I can tell you that I have best results downloading and tethering using wap.voicestream.com as my APN.
Currently downloading to my computer some files and im getting a 30.00kb/s 113.5kb/s max.
oh and im using a TMO TP2 unlocked cooked ROM
why is yours so slow? i get around 3-5 mb/s when im not throttled and then ill use internet2.voicestream.com and ill get 1-3 mb/s when im throttled at 5 gb ill get around 60 kb/s
I have unlimited data plan. epc.tmobile.com is my apn. will get charges if I change it?
Further Testing
I was able to test Epc, internet2, and internet3 On my T-mobile Vibrant, running Froyo stock JL5.
My results are shown below, and the summary is:
(From Dslreports)
Fastest average download: Internet 3 (2766 kbps, latency unknown, download rate based on download time calculated)
Best latency: Epc
(From speakEasy)
Fastest average download: Epc (3470 kbps)
Note, internet 3 exhibited Poor latency during speakeasy Tests
Conclusion:
Stick with epc, unless experiencing Lag Or low signal strength. Signal Strength seems higher with internet3, but the quality isn't as good as with epc. Regardless, internet3 outperforms Internet2.
I hope this helps some of you. It goes without saying, of course that signal varies by location.

If you're in DFW, you should be on HSPA. Why are you in the hundreds of kb/s range? Using speakeasy and speedtest from the market, I routinely get multiple Mb/s.
I am only getting 2Mbps (at best) over WiFi using the speedtest.net app. I checked with my netbook to be sure and I get over 7Mbps with that.
I assume this limit is due to the performance of the CPU?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548807
so I just upgraded my internet service today and I started running tests with speedtest.net with the expectation to see slightly faster speeds in the range of 7-15 Mbps. Boy was I wrong! I'm getting between 20-30 down, averaging around 25.
Now, I decide to test my phone, same wifi and speed test.net app and I barely even see a change in speeds, why is that? I was getting around 4.5 down average. I had one test jump to 6.8 and averaged 5 with the inter net upgrade.
I don't get it?
Anybody using Nordvpn with Shield TV? Also experiencing low speeds?
In my case i get only speed between 5-12Mbps whereas without vpn max 49 Mbps are possible.
I've been using this phone since January and never once has it crossed 50 Mbps in download speeds or speed tests. My home wifi is 60 Mbps which my laptop speed tests checkout but my mobiles download speed tops out at 40+. It's never touched 50 either. Any solution? My wifi is running at 2.5GHz. I'm not planning to root my device until the warranty is over.
Try be closer to your router or modem and if the problem still persist, head to developer setting (not sure if stock rom has this or not) and find a setting that mention improve wifi speed. If it is not there then I think only on custom rom has it.
