Any ideas why "call 911" gets "app isn't installed"? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running a custom ROM, and was careful to only install what I thought were the essential GAPPS, and one problem I've had is that if I launch the Google Assistant and say "call 911", it says "calling emergency services" but then immediately after that a toast pops up that reads, "app isn't installed" and nothing happens. This makes me suspect that there's some GAPP I didn't install that Google Assistant assumes is there and thus can't find for calling 911. I can manually call 911 just fine, and I should note, if I tell Google Assistant to call anyone else, it works fine, so the problem it isn't that it can't access the phone *at all*, it's that there's some special service it can't access. I did pre-install the "Phone" GAPP, so that's there. However, I didn't install the "CarrierServices" GAPP, so I'm wondering if that could be the culprit? I had been under the impression CarrierServices wasn't essential, but does anyone know what it really does and if it is required for Google Assistant to call 911?

Setting up Google Voice

Hey everyone!
I'm in meed for some help! I am running CM7 and the sprint VCMC does not work with it so now I'm trying to get Google voice set up. I have gone through the set up numerous times and it still will not work. I am selecting do not use Google voice to make calls. I only want it for voice mail. So it prompts me to dial the *28 number, I get 3 beeps and then it hangs up. (I believe that is normal) . So after the set up is finished, when I call my phone it does not forward the calls the my Google voicemail, it simply says the call can not be completed please try again. I have gone online and checked the settings still won't work! I have deletes the account and tried again and still the same error. I know it works, since there are many people around here that use it. I'm sure this is a user error thing. So if anyone has any insight please let me know! I could use all the help I can get!
Thanks!
I know how to fix this!
I've had this problem before and it's incredibly annoying to experience, and almost impossible to find out yourself unless someone tells you.
It's simple really. You NEED a "google voice" number. I know you THINK you have one, but you don't.
Go into your gvoice account, and then voice settings. Right at the top there is a icon that says "get google number". It's free and quick. Once you have a google voice number, you can then get voicemail to work properly.
Hope that helps.
If you already have a Voice number, then did you set up your Evo to use Google Voicemail? I believe the option is in Settings>Call.

[Q] "Ok Google.. call" not working on S5

Hello XDA,
For some reason, I cannot seem to make calls using the ok google function anymore. When i say "ok google call john", it will correctly bring up john and the progress indicator for starting the call moves across the screen and then it goes to a transition animation as if opening the dialer, and then goes back to the google now screen with the call progress bar again. I've tried clearing the cache and data for the phone app and have tried clearing cache and reinstalling the google app. Has anyone encountered this issue? It was fine on kitkat but seemed to start having issues after i updated to lollipop. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can fix? Thank you.
So I found out the reason, it is because I use google voice as my default number and have the setting turned on to use google voice for all calls. So it seems to bug out when you use the "ok google call" command with google voice. Sent in a bug report to google. not sure if this is a google thing or a samsung thing that needs to be addressed! but in case anyone else has his problem, this is why!

Google NOW tries calling certain contacts via google voice and can never connect.

I have a Nexus 6P running the latest version Android 6.0.1. However, it is very odd that I never had this issue with my Nexus 6.
I have a car that just has a simple phone button (Bluetooth) to press which makes a sound and at that point I can simply say something like "Call Tom Brady". The phone usually uses my Verizon network to call the contact without any problems. I have been noticing that for a lot of my contacts 'Google Now' is trying to call them via Google Voice. The phone literally says calling so and so via Google Voice and then never connects. I don't know if this is because these contacts have a Gmail account or what, but it is very annoying and it never ends up connecting.
I bet if I uninstall the Google Voice app everything would work, but I need it for my visual voice mail.
One thing I have already tried is in the Google Voice App settings change it to 'Do NOT use Google Voice for any calls'.
This did not fix the issue.
Is there any Google Now settings or Google Voice settings that anyone can think of that might help me here?

google assistant

Just upgraded to 10u stock H918 from latest lineage 14.1 nightly. I haven't been able to get google assistant to work with voice match. The option is disabled. When i enable it, it asks me to train my voice model which i do. After which i look and see that its still disabled. I tried uninstalling it, and the phone actually responds to "ok google" even though the built in google voice search on the rom shows disabled. As soon as i reinstall google assistant from the app store, voice match/response stops working.

I can't seem to get "Ok, Google!" working in my phone.

I am using MIUI 10.3.10 and I want to use Google Assistant, I can't set up "Ok, Google!" though. I can't click on "Access with Voice Match".
It's the problem in google assistant settings.
I was having the same problem and I navigated to google assistant settings and in voice I tapped on Restrain voice model so the probkem will be solved now.
