I have an Atoto S8, and this is my first Android powered head unit (coming from their linux-based F7, which was more of an appliance UI instead of a smart OS). I love the extra functionality it gives me, running apps and video players directly on the unit. But Bluetooth support is wonky.
My wife and I share the car, and ever since swapping to the Android powered unit, it only reconnects to whoever drove last. So if I drive the car all the time, its fine. But when my wife drives, she says bluetooth isn't working, so I have to go into settings on the BT app (BT1 as they call it) and see the three phones listed as paired (my old phone, my new phone and my wife's phone), and click on hers. Wait a bit, and then she is good to go. But then next time I drive, I realize my phone isn't connecting now, so I have to go do it again. Which means she's going to complain next time that her phone isn't working again.
I've installed a few bluetooth powered head units before, and even the Android Auto supporting F7 before this one, worked as expected: If the last device isn't available, try to connect to another recent paired one. It seems to just get stuck on the last one for some reason. Is this a limitation of how bluetooth works on these units?
have you solved this issue
i am finding it very frustrating
i thought i would solve it using the app "automate"
this would star a sequence of checks and sytematic attempted connections
but, oddly enough you cant automate the triggering o fthe flow
so it would only start if actioned
Yes, or rather THEY solved it.
Reach out to customer support. There is an update to the Bluetooth module that makes this work the way I described.
I got an A6pf in my other car and had them make an update for that one too. Much happier now.

Having problems with my Droid X and car system connecting via Bluetooth.
Random problems:
Often fails to connect at all, other times connects fine or partial.
Transfers the phonbook sometimes and other times it does not.
Connects the audio fine and not the Hands Free.
Sometimes I need to re-pair the entire setup to get it to work at all.
Sometimes I need to power both the phone and receiver down and back up to get it to work.
Does anyone have any ideas on a solution?
It's driving me crazy, want to use the Bluetooth both for the Hands Free and audio streaming.
Droid X, Android Version 2.2.1, System Version Verizon.2.3.340.MBB810.Verizon.en.US
Car System:
Kenwood KDC-X994, built in Bluetooth.
Bluetooth version 3.12.0
My wife's iPhone works fine with this receiver using the Bluetooth.
Thanks
Sorry, my DX connects every time I get in my car (Ford Sync system). Have you tried connecting it to other Bluetooth devices to see if it's maybe the phone itself?
No I have not tried it with another system.
An excellent idea but at this time I do not have access to another receiver with Bluetooth.
Did get an answer from Kenwood that it was not tested with the Droid X but was tested with the Droid.
Wonder if it could be a phone or receiver problem. I need to come up with a way of testing both units on a continuous basis.
The last two days it has connected just fine, but Friday evening it was giving problems.
Thanks for your help.
You can try finding a little cheapo Bluetooth USB receiver from a local store, use it with your laptop or PC, and try pairing your phone with it. Then after you're done testing just return it (make sure there's an open box return policy though!).

Thanks,
I will give that a try, maybe this weekend if I get time.
i have the same phone and Kenwood radio. What I needed to do was this:
Delete any bluetooth devices in the Kenwood radio.
Delete the paired Kenwood device in your phone.
Make the Kenwood discoverable, scan for it with the phone. Once the phone finds the Kenwood pair with it. When the Kenwood requests PBAP access, click allow ONE TIME ONLY. This is the key. I saw the Kenwood send the request several times. If I confirmed the request more than once, the unit acted flaky. Hopefully this will fix your issue. It did for me!
I will give that a try.
The Kenwood does download the phone book everytime it connects.
Sometimes it says completed very quickly and then the HF fails.
Other times it will neve finish downloading.
Thanks
The vast majority of car stereos that support Bluetooth A2DP are notoriously fickle with it. I went to a Car Toys last July after getting my Droid X, and tested literally about 20 different car stereos with playing music over Bluetooth. Half of them would not even pair, most of the rest had various problems like wouldn't play music or it skipped/cut out a lot, etc. Only three manufacturers had multiple units that worked flawlessly: Pioneer, Clarion and Parrot. I asked one of the guys there if this was normal, and he said yeah, A2DP was very poorly supported in most car stereos but that he knew some of the manufacturers were working on making it better for the next year's models.
This doesn't help you, but even though your wife's iPhone works and your DX doesn't, it's unlikely the problem is with your DX.
Roland,
Thanks for the info. Interesting there are so many problems with car stereos.
I will definitely keep this in mind the next time I buy a car stereo.
One interesting item is I rented a Ford Escape for a week and my Droid X worked flawlessly with the Ford factory stereo.
Go figure. It was the high end factory unit, Sat radio, USB port, Bluetooth all built in.
My phone connected via bluetooth to my car no problems until yesterday. All of a sudden it stopped working, i noticed no other changes, so i proceeded to try to pair both from my phone end and the car, still wasnt working so i unpaired and removed the device from my car and phone and tried to repair, the car (2012 sonata) tells me to pair from the phone, and on the phone it cannot find the bluetooth of the car.
I was freaking out and thought it was the car, but i tried my tablet and laptop, andboth are able to pick them up, ive tried turning bluetooth on/off and restarting the entire phone,
Has anyone else experienced their bluetooth going out on the s5 yet?
and what do you think would help? factory reset, or manufacturers return for hardware error?

Have you tried pairing your phone with other devices than car? At least, it will confirm that your phone Bluetooth is working fine.

I've been experiencing some issues with my bluetooth in cars and with wireless headsets. it has annoyed me enough to search the forums today.
Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with MS530 wireless headset.
Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with 2012 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design.
Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with 2011 Volvo S60 T6.
Issue with Pandora and bluetooth controls can pause, cannot resume play with Aftermarket Sony deck in my truck (don't have the model handy).
Built in player sometimes has the same issues, I see more issues when the phone is locked. Fingerprint scanner on.
Today bluetooth locked up totally and had to reboot the device. I did not power down my headset before I left range of my phone and came back and it would not re-connect. I unpaired and attempted to repair and it would not. rebooted powered everything off and repaired and it started working again.
Bluetooth has issues on the S5 phones in my opinion. My iphone 5 has no issues at all with everything. locked or not. Was thinking of rooting to see if I could fix some of these issues as I prefer Android as I like the apps better and the openness to get stuff done.

No, it's not a S5 issue, it's an Android issue and it's been continuous since the beginning. These problems have happened with my previous 3 phones too, so don't delude yourself into thinking these are specific to this phone. Or that they will be fixed for that matter...

I disagree.
Bluetooth has worked on all the android models I've had in the past.
Past Android phones:
HTC Hero - worked great, slow though
HTC EVO - worked great
LG Nexus 4 - worked great
Motorola Zoom - worked great
Samsung Moment - Slow but worked
Samsung Epic - worked great
Samsung S3 - worked great
But if you want to blame the OS go for it. I think your alone there. Its a software issue with Samsung crap in my opinion vs security and all the bells and whistles they are trying to use. I think Android has nothing to do with the issue at all.
I have a moto headset with my s5 and no problems. Had no problems with same one on my s4 either so I wouldn't blame all the phones. It's electronics. Things can go won key when you have a lot of parts. It's probably just that. It happens. Even on iPhone's.
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
I have problems too. Very odd tho. I can pair my phone and listen to my music just fine. However if I try to use my gps while the BT is connected, no audio will cone from the phone or the BT radio. But as soon as I turn off thr BT on my phone, I can hear my gps through my phone just fine.
I haven't done a factory reset yet, but I have cleared thr phone from my car and re-paired.....still nothing.
The even stranger thing....every one in a while it will work, 9 times out of 10 it won't work. It has worked 2 times since I bought the phone, April 25th.
Never had a problem like this before, with other phones.
meh

As I reply to this one person said they have no problems, one said they have problems. I have had the same issues with syncing and playback on my 2 previous phones, neither of them the S5. There are idiosyncrasies that exist in the software (like any software ever) that just don't work sometimes. I don't know why we should think this phone would be any different.
Hi All,
New here and first and my first Android headunit (Dodge 2009 Ram truck).
Purchased this unit ebay.com/itm/282734637463 on ebay Hizpo using android 7.1.
Got it and installed. While it came with no install directions, it was straight forward and went in easily. First off would like to say the quality and what does work I really like. But, I really purchased it to have Bluetooth in my truck. Being purchasing a new headunit versus adding Uconnect to stock radio, thought this was the better value.
I am having problems getting Bluetooth and WIFI to discover any of the phones I have tried (apple and android phones). After 50+ atemps Bluetooth and WIFI discovery and connection was successful only twice and only once lasted as long as about 8 minutes then failed and no longer able to see bluetooth devices again. This was on achieved after going into factory settings and changing BT adapter to No rebooting and then changing adapter setting in factory settings back rebooting. That is when it worked, but as I mentioned for a very short time and would have to go through the same process all over again for discovery and connection to only be short lived.
Have bee in contact with the ebay seller. They have been very little help. He did send me an update of which I tried to install. After I plugged USB in it found the update and reboots but on black reboot screen almost immediately I get just Error! message then reboots and tells me would I like to retry. Again after many attempts same results will not update.
Needless to say seller now making very dificult to return. If I can find a solution I really like the radio and would like to keep but being the main reason I bought for Bluetooth if I can not get it to work a $300.00 dollar waste of money.
I am hoping it is a firmware issue and can be corrected.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Hello to everyone.
From when i bought it the op8pro has some problem with the bluetooth. Is like if the device can connect to one device only. I have a fossil 5 gen, one fiesta mk8 with android auto and the bluetooth headset but is like if the bluetooth has some problem to connect to two or one devices. For example every time my car doesnt connect to the phone automatically and today when i was to the gym my headset doesnt connect automatically too. My previous note 10 pro was able to connect without any problem... Someone has some problem with the bluetooth? Thanks
I have another problem. Every time that i enter in my car the device is connect to android auto but if i want to play an audio from whatsapp i have to tap a lot of time on the play botton.!!!???why
I see this same issue, I'd say 80-90% of the time (the other 10-20%, it "just works", which is truly odd, given the protocol).
For example, I use some bone-conducting open-air headphones, while cycling (long time road cyclist), and sometimes I want to connect my Garmin Edge 1030, to download a route, when I'm out.
Good luck, even upon returning, I'm often sitting in the garage, trying 20+ times (after shutting my headphones off, even), to try and download my ride-data, for the day. Sometimes it requires rebooting both devices, flushing the Bluetooth app-cache, and the Garmin app-cache, and then it'll work, that's perhaps 40% of the time.
For another 40%, it will NOT connect, what-so-ever, across multiple reboots and app-cache flushes, period (I tend to give up at around the 20+ attempt mark, depending).
The last 20%, it works, perfectly, as you'd expect, and as my OP7 Pro did, I can't recall a single BT connectivity issue, with it, either solo (Garmin) or with headphones concurrently.
I've filed bugs with OP (along with NUMEROUS other radio bugs, like the fact you can't connect to a 5G-mobile signal, if you're connected to a WiFi signal, on the INO2025 model, bug filed, trace-logs submitted, including pointing out log-lines where the radio(s) fail).
Unfortunately, with the Bluetooth issues, it will not repro, if I use the OP debug-mode, which is how they want to receive logs (and how I've submitted many bugs, previously), so I'm at a loss, short of finding a hardware Bluetooth debug module (I used to work on h/w and s/w boundary driver stuff, so I've used a h/w BT debugger before, but not for some years, and have no access to one, currently).
OP seems to just ignore the bugs, at that point, when I can't provide the logs, they pretty much abandon the bug-thread, so I'm not sure how they're going to get some of these resolved (I've noted that the debug-mode seems to introduce some latency, or similar, that prevents repro, no response to that, what-so-ever).
I have reset the radio-stack, a couple of times, and did one full factory-reset (shortly after getting the phone, about 1 month back now), with no real change in results, for reference.
I feel like I'm back in the late-90's, when Bluetooth was super-flaky. on most devices, in the 1.x and 2.x days.
Not exactly a "flagship phone experience", or even a decent budget phone Bluetooth experience, for this day and age...
I'm open to ideas on how to debug further, I'm really more of a storage and display guy, and memory-management, in terms of the bulk of my dev/debug skills, communication protocols were something I did on the fringe, of sorts, when they overlapped, or similar.
Hi all,
A couple months ago I treated myself with a pony car from Ford, that runs a Ford Sync 3 multimedia system. It supports Android Auto as well as Carplay, by cable only.
When I brought the car from Germany (2nd found there) I was still running my old 5T as a temporary phone because my 8 Pro was being serviced (long story, useless here). AA worked flawlessly with it.
Since I got my 8 Pro back (initially running OOS11), it has NEVER worked correctly with Android Auto: whatever the cable, whatever the OS, AA will eventually disconnect. The phone keeps showing a "android auto is enabled" notification, but the media system does not see it anymore. Basically, all ongoing app stop working on the screen, the media system reverts to a non-AA state.
I have tried with the OEM cable and third-party ones. On the front USB plug of the one in the armrest. Resetting the phone, resetting the car. Eventually, it fails again. All Pointe towards some stability of the USB connection: it works for longer with the OEM cable. As read in other threads and googling, I've tried by setting the default USB mode to various things (in dev options), enabling/disabling OTG... To no avail.
This is very frustrating because although I could buy a wireless AA dongle, I like things to "work as intended". Android Auto seems to be a very painful experience, overall (that's what a quick Google search tends to say). Is there any way to actually troubleshoot things? AA has a developer mode, is there any chance to grab a proper debug log for when it crashes? Sadly enough, Carplay works fine. I'm stuck with my wife's Spotify Playlist...!
Same happened with OOS11, OOS12 (C.20 atm but also occurred with the one just below). Oh yeah, I'm magisk rooted, just FYI.
Thanks and cheers!
/e : apologies for posting to the the wrong section and thanks to the mod who moved the thread
Little bump. Has anyone faced issues with Android Auto, and found a way to at least troubleshoot it?
Problems with android auto afaik are mostly car related. Using it for a long time with less problems, oos 11 and 12, hyundai i20 (wireless android auto). Maybe you should ask Ford for that, maybe they have updates for car audio firmware. Seems some car audio system didnt have a proper integration of android auto...
Bump here.
I have digged the question of firmware updates for the APIM. Turns out there are none (even checked myself with FORScan). Got the opportunity to try with another OP8 (not a Pro). Exact same behavior. These same two phones (my OP8Pro and the other OP8) do work perfectly fine in another car (Hyundai) though.
Android Auto has always been questionable in terms of reliability but this is completely unusable now. Is there any chance to troubleshoot the connection in developper mode ?
