I am desperately seeking help......
I have just fitted a brand new Android 11 based head unit to my wife's car and I am having one issue in particular that is creating a lot of angst. My wife is not tech savvy and would simply like to jump in her car, start it up and have everything work inlcuding playing her favorite radio apps. I can have this work for her perfectly via Bluetooth Tethering when a toggle under ANDROID SETTINGS - CONNECTED DEVICES - PHONE - INTERNET ACCESS is switched on. However, this toggle reverts to off everytime the car is switched off and needs to be manually switched on eveyrtime to restore functionality. The unit supports wired Android Auto, but even then my wife does not want to pull the phone out of her bag everytime and plug/unplug. Is there any way the unit can remember the last setting or have it default to on? I have tried Macdroid app, but it does not offer this specific action. I have attached an image of the setting in question along with the specs of the head unit. Wifes phone is a Samsung Galaxy A52 runing Android 11. Help me save my marriage!

Hi, if unit has SD cards and USB drives in multimedia ports remove them first, then tweek settings again and then save settings (device will write in internal device memory) by shutting down device (remove key / shut down engine).
Repeat procedure if first time is not saved in internal memory (without SD cards or USB in ports).
After bootup again it will eventually write in internal memory and save settings.

Thanks for your reply, however there are no SD cards or USB drives. There does not also appear to be an option to 'save" settings.
It "saves" by it self when you turn device off (or remove key from contact). As for USB or cards, ok, you probably have master setings/factory settings in there that is entered with a pin code, do you know how to enter it ?
(thru infotainment)
We will go one step at a time.

Thanks very much for your reply! When I toggle the switch to on, it does not retain that setting when I turn car off and remove the key. I do have the passcode to get into the factory settings of the HU, but I have had a good look and cannot identify any setting which relates to my issue, that's not to say it doesnt exist.
Take a picture of your device factory settings please, or maybe it's better to record a small video.

Is this what you were after? Apologies if I misread your message.
Yes, let me see where can we find memory issues
Most likely it is in APP SETTINGS menu.
Play with settings untill you find correct setting, it will not harm device in any way, but prior to changing anything take a photo of each settings menu to avoid unpleasent changes that lead to app and config problems.

Hi all, apologies if this issues have been asked about before - I have locked but couldn't specifically find what I was looking for.
I use my HD2 in the car to play music, whilst doing this I want to use the USB port on my stereo to charge the HD2... however the USB mode on the HD2 kicks in and then disables my memory card from being used directly by the phone. Setting the USB mode to activesync makes no difference.
Having plugged the USB cable in it would be nice if the stereo recognised the USB card when I wanted it too so that tracks could be read directly by the stereo. Other USB storage devices I have work fine but setting the HD2 to USB - Disk mode makes no difference, the stereo does not read any tracks. Anyone had this issue too?
Whilst using the HD2 in the car, playing music (charging or not) I'd like to prevent the screen lock for activating, I'd be happy if the screen darkened but with one tap of the screen I would like it to be back to working brightness and active. Is there a tweak to allow this to happen and for the lock to be set manually, for example by pressing the poweroff button?
Thanks all
Dan
It just sounds like your music collection is not compatible with your stereo. When you plug in the USB cable and select "USB drive", yes, it will stop the phone from accessing the SD card, but if you want to play music via the stereo then who cares!
You can also set the backlight to stay on when connected to an external power source (settings, menu, all settings, system, power, backlight).
That should solve all your issues.
Don't forget, it's not just the file type that your stereo might be finniky about. It might not like the bitrate of the tracks either.
Hope this helps
Thanks John...
I'd rather use the HD2 to play the tracks to be honest, with coverflow it is much easier than the clunky button method on the stereo.
Will the back light option also disable the screen lock? Assuming I can't power the HD2 from Stereo (because I need to have the HD2 access the memory card). Then I will have to set the backlight to be on permanently and that will kill the battery Ideally I need to be able to create a profile based on certain circumstances.
The stereo also has a SD card reader so I will try the card from the HD2 in the stereo direct and see if it has any problems accessing the files.
I'm having an issue getting Android Auto to launch in my Subaru Crosstrek 2018 model. It works when I use my Nexus 6p but not with the Essential phone. I've tried different cables and reinstalling Android Auto but no luck. Anybody else having issues with Android Auto in their car with the Essential phone?
I had major problems getting Android Auto to work with my Essential phone.
At first, I kept getting the red screen of death (something about "do this when the car is stopped and the brake is on"...of course the car was stopped and the brake was on...). The next day (after a phone update), I tried again and could get past that screen. But then it wouldn't connect.
Turns out you have to scroll down the notifications and change the connect mode from USB charge to MTP manually. Once you do that, it quickly connects. Why the phone can't automatically do that for you...I don't know. But I've done this repeatedly now and each time it connects once you change to MTP mode.
(I also have USB debugging on--don't know if that's important as well).

Android Auto doesn't kick-in on my '20 Subaru Outback (works on my wife's '19 Nissan Rogue).
Can you specify how to get to this setting. I'm unable to find it...

For the current connection, expand the "usb charging" notification, and it will give you a prompt to the available options - just select what you need. To change the default USB connection behaviour, go to Settings - System - Developer options - Default USB configuration, and select an appropriate connection mode.

Funny there is no USB charging notification on the top, but in Default USB configuration should it be on File Transfer? Thanks!
I've never had a problem with android auto on mine, though I think I probably did change the default connection mode to file transfer a long time ago (before I had a vehicle with android auto).
You can also try a USB hub. These resolved the problem:
AmazonBasics 4 Port USB to USB 3.0 Hub with 5V/2.5A power adapter
ASIN B00DQFGH80
TP-Link | 4 - Port USB 3.0 Hub | Slim & Foldable Cord Design | Compact Travel Size with Charging Ports | Universal Compatibility - USB Flash Drive, Notebook, MacBook, PC, Chromebook and More (UH400)
ASIN B012B6YQY6

So I've been using my phone to sync my music for a long time and today I updated to Verizon's new security patch and suddenly I'm getting a 'USB device not recognized' error when trying to connect my phone to my computer.
Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?
I read the previous posts when this has happened so yes, the drivers are installed. I just hooked my phone up yesterday and it worked. Fast charging works on it and my PC charges the phone just fine so it's not the micro USB port.

Did you make sure USB debugging is still on? A security update might turn that off
Yeah, that's actually the first thing I checked. Same result either way. I'm just trying to transfer media without having to take the SD card out and it just will not work no matter what I have tried, including re-installing the drivers on my computer and restarting both multiple times.

I've had it happen a couple of times with my Note 5, I think the only way I fixed it was to use a completely different computer and ever reinstalled windows. It's like something got screwy on the computer.

Well, I did confirm it works on my other computer but Android Auto in my car no longer works. I'm pretty pissed off because the Verizon update definitely messed up things here. It's the only thing that changed and I had just used Android Auto the day before the updated too. I didn't even think about it until I had to use navigation today and it didn't work.
I just factory reset the phone and tried it and the computer and Android Auto still do not work. Verizon's updates are such garbage and I've been trying to wait for the Galaxy S10 to upgrade my phone.
So I found a (very stupid) fix for this. The reason it was only working on one computer of mine was because that is a desktop that I use a USB hub to connect to. What I found was if I use that USB hub to connect to my laptop AND my car for Android Auto both devices work as they did before. For now I have that USB hub out in my car so I can use Android Auto.
Obviously this is very dumb but it seems to work so if any of you have this issue with your Galaxy S7 Edge this may work for you. The USB hub I'm using is an Anker USB 3.0 4-port Hub that is no longer made and couldn't find it for purchase now but it's possible any hub or their newer ones will work.

I did a little searching and came across other people having the same sort of problem, here's what they did to get it working:
(I also saw mentiond about deleting the phone from the car's list of Android Auto devices before the following steps)
1. Turn USB debugging ON on the phone. (Under developer options. If you don’t have developer options available in settings, it can be turned on by going to Settings -> System -> About Phone and taping on “Build Number” several times until a message appears saying that you are ‘now a developer’.)
2. Forget the Bluetooth pairing between my phone and my car on both the phone and the car.
3. Clear data for Android Auto app on my phone.
4. Restart Phone.
5. Turn car off-and-on.
That order was important, as I’d tried several combinations of those steps without effect until I hit on this combination. Steps 1, 2, and 3 may be able to be switched around with each other, but it seems they both had to be done before steps 4 and 5 (which seemed to need to be done in that specific order).
Also, if I start the car with the phone already connected, the car tends not to notice the phone. I have to plug the phone in after the car is started and the entertainment system ready to go.
If you want to start over without a factory reset you can do this so it will be like you just did (as far as what we are dealing with here)

Yeah, I tried that multiple times and have seen the article you copied here. I even did a factory reset and tried all of that again but it didn't work.
With the way I have it working right now USB Debugging is actually off too (it works with it on or off). Before the recent Verizon update I hadn't even enabled Developer Mode so USB Debugging was always off when it was working. Something screwed up with the way the phone identified itself via USB in the software update and the USB hub seems to fix it.
An official Samsung cable might work (and I have one on the way) but since I bought this phone used without the official cable that hasn't been an option.
Thanks though!!
Hello.
I've got my mother's Samsung A20. And i need to recover data, but the screen doesn't work.
When power button is pressed, display flashes the lock screen (wallpaper, current time and so on). And then it turns black (backlight stays on for 30 seconds, and then turns off). Pressing the button doesn't guarantee flashing the display, sometimes it goes black immediately. Touch screen gives no input as far as i know (can't hear anything when trying to type pin). Problem still occurs during and after reboots.
I managed to connect a mouse and keyboard with USB OTG, and i was able to unlock. But the phone has no MHL support, so i can't get any image through USB. I'd try pressing the power button repeatedly to get some image and inch my way through the interface, but the lockscreen interferes.
The USB port is set to Charging Only mode, so i can't copy files to my computer. USB Debugging is disabled, bootloader is locked.
Does anybody have a clue, how to get image? Some way to get data? Maybe some keyboard shortcuts, so i can disable lockscreen and make my way easier? And maybe disable 20 alarms in the morning?

I like to be helpful so I'll try to give you some suggestions but I hope others pitch in who know far more than I do.
I never use the USB cable anymore to operate my phone from my PC (but my screen isn't broken so your situation will be much harder).
I connect to my phone from Windows over Wi-Fi without USB all the time, and I can unlock my screen from the PC, and I can mount my entire Android device as a drive letter on Windows over Wi-Fi, etc., so "maybe" (just maybe though), you can consider using either a WebDav server on Android to access your files and/or adb to bring up and manipulate activities on Android....

However, I don't know if adb will work for you if you can't turn on USB debugging in the first place... but as of Android 12, adb now works completely over Wi-Fi (see screenshots below) without needing the USB cable to establish the initial connection like it used to be prior to Android 12.

If the screen problem is "just" hardware and not software, and if you can turn on Wireless Debugging, you might be able to display your phone over scrcpy or vysor (both of which use adb over Wi-Fi) as shown in the screenshots below on my phone - which never needs the USB cable connection.
Hope this helps, but you seem to need folks who know more than I do as adb/vysor/scrcpy all work for me because I can set up USB Debugging & Wireless Debugging as shown below.
Note that you might have an FTP server or a WebDav Server on your Android phone, and if you do, you might be able to at least transfer important files since they each can mount your entire Android phone as a drive letter on Windows over Wi-Fi (without needing the USB cable).

A20 can have only Android 9, 10 or 11, but thanks for ideas anyway.
I didn't even know adb can work over WiFi, I'll look into it. Hopefully this version can do it too.
Now trying blindly to turn on the screen reader…

Ooops. My bad. I apologize. You'll need the USB cable in Android 11 for a moment to establish the connection first. Then you can switch over to Wi-Fi after that (or you can stay on USB).

I feel for you. I really do. It hurts me when people can't access their phone remotely to get their data back. I am searching all over the XDA site for a solution for you, where I just moments ago opened this thread to help (I'm still searching for you though).
What is the best XDA solution to control Android on the PC & recover data over Wi-Fi when the user suddenly has an unresponsive broken screen?
So I’m currently having issues with my android head unit but just wanted to ask about the problem where any setting gets reset/reverted after reboot. Can someone please help me with this issue? I have tried contacting the seller, in which he showed me to change (for instance) the volume settings from within the factory settings, but that still doesn’t work. I know that it’s possible to do it because I was messing around the other day and managed to save a few settings after reboot but can’t remember how anymore. If someone have a solution please tell me.

I also had this problem, but after I connected a USB stick with some mp3 music and reset everything, the settings were saved. Apparently the settings (in my case) are stored on a USB stick. Maybe a little tip.

We're waiting .
I'm just wondering if there's a way to change the location to save settings to the head unit itself, so if anyone has a tip....
Maybe I already found the option (just not tested yet).
1. Open your Android device's Settings app.
2. Tap Storage & USB.
3. Tap Internal Storage.
4. Tap the menu icon (three vertical dots).
5. Tap Change where new content is saved.
6. Select a new download location.
7. Tap Done.
There are already a few threads explaining that app and factory settings gets stored on USB drive.
After connecting a USB drive the first time Android asks how to handle the drive in a status bar message.

Now that you mention it, I remember something like that
So I have news.
I connected the usb stick and choice in radio use as internal storage and then after setting all up audio eq all my setting in menu 8888 i did click export to usb or something like that option, and it seems to be remembering so far.
BUT
There occure other problem, before the pendrive trick I did try to figgle aroud in setting options and I think i break shutdown option or so, as yesterday my car battery died.
And I can clearly hear the fans working after car engine off and its somehow working in background.
The normal in settings sleep mode is set to 0 minutes so my guess I did break some settings in hidden option 8888
For now, I am charging my battery tomorrow I will try to post some shots/video of my unit UI and options

Have you also checked that option in the "normal" android settings menu?
So I manage to fix all my 3 problems
1. Bluetooth dissconnect/ cant see and pair
Go 8888 in the advanced menu and OTHERS, add Bluetooth mode 2, INSTALL, and SYNC additionaly manualny add Bluetooth name, after that unit gonna show pin core, connect no problem and for me it keeps Bluetooth active
2. Settings radio eq doesnt remember
Connect fresh fat32 USB stick and choice use as external storage, set all app find see if after reboot it remember
3. And here is extra step as for me the settings doesnt remember even with pendrive connected, I think that i figgle too much on settings and the file that is suppost to keep settings Save override
So go to 8888 and click the ERASE ALL CONTENT
What IT did for me it reboot unit and reflash firmware and factory reset
That way the pendrive trick after setup IT remember all radio station and eq settings
My guess is IT delete broken file that interfeer with Save settings.
Thank you @Blade6100 for all the hints and tricks

Don't set the USB stick to be your main storage for apps and other Android related content. I'm sure you will find the Android setting via Google.
Disconnect all USB stuff.
Reboot the unit and change setting. Reboot again and check if settings are still stored.
Please be aware that changing factory settings will delete other settings like radio stations and (maybe) settings if the Junsun launcher (if you use this crap).

So far i've tried:
Adding USB drive as Android space, also as travel media for music

Thanks for the reply! Changing factory settings resets radio & etc is useful information. I removed USB memory stick and restarted the device. With entering code 4 restart still resets radio and EQ. Is there any other method for restarting device?

All my information are useful.
I created an app Reboot.apk which restarts the device without the need to keep code 4 in mind:
Junsun V1 - start equalizer/AUX/BT music/CarInfo... from launcher
The app equalizer.apk starts the equalizer (activity com.ts.main.Media.ADASMainActivity): EqualizerShell.apk starts the equalizer (activity com.ts.MainUI/com.ts.set.dsp.SetDspMainActivity) via su shell command. See post below for further...

But to be honest I don't think code 4 will reset the device. Only if you change and save a factory setting.

Most likely you are right. Stations and EQ settings still dissapear. There was some talk about wiring. Mine is connected only with manufacturer plugs, no seperate wires are connected. Maybe there might be the problem?
