Hi Everyone:
I am using an old Shuttle computer running Phoenix OS to monitor conditions at a vacation property. I use a product called TempCube to monitor conditions within the house. It was working fine until the latest update. Now, I get an error that it can't find the internet. However, the internet is fine. I contacted the app support, which was basically useless. They said that the app can only use the mobile data, and so it will not work with a machine that only has WIFI. But, it works fine on my phone when it is in airplane mode.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?

When I'm running windows, I use this app called WMRouter and I can use my cell phone as a router and connect to the internet on my laptop wirelessly... is there an app out there like that for Android (other then PDAnet) and where would I download it?
Thanks

wifi hostpot and is included in almost froyo rom's.
I'm using Desire V5
use windows mobile then and switch back to androind when finish
Barnacle--search and download from market
PDAnet--is free as long as you do not browse secure (https) sites on your machine.
Wifi Hotspot -- built-in feature inside the OS with 2.2 (including Sense)
Wifi Tethering search and download from market or via google for the apk download. Needs to be compatible with firmware though.
My 2 cents; test on your own and report back. I have not tested any on my HD2 yet but have used them on my Nexus One daily.
my phone crashed when I used Mattc's Froyo and tried to run wifi hotspot. just went white screen
I use CM_InternetSharing app on my WM mobile phone to create a hot spot. The software works great and all my Windows pc's & my brothers iPad find my cell phone and gain a internet connect but the Elocity A7 does not connect. The Elocity A7 does connect to my home network but it does not find the mobile hot spot.
Note: WiFi Analyzer finds my WM phone but I can't connect - So I guess it has to do something with the WEP encryption between WM & Andriod in obtaining a IP.
My elocity is on build 0127.
Any ideas?
I have to install the adhoc-fix.zip by dexter on to see my hotspot I have a hotspot on my virgin mobile phone . do a search here on the forum for adhoc-fix.zip and it will give you the link. You rename it to update.zip and install like the mods on the a7 but you do not have to clear stuff.

I found the adhoc-fix.zip. Did you apply this using recovery? Ie. rename to update.zip.
I also seen that someone mention to execute a chmod on a file. Do you know how to get keyboard in command prompt mode?

yes just apply using recovery. I dont know about the other.
Well I applied the adhoc-fix.zip. It got me closer. I can see my phone broadcasting SID XDA-Wifi-Sharing but it won't obtain a IP address. -- Thanks. I'll keep looking

I run the barnicle legacy on my phone to make my hot spot. I have a virgin mobile samsung intercept.
I believe barnicle is for Andriod -- so you are communicating Andriod to Android. My phone is Windows Mobile running XDA CM Internet Sharing. My A7 will not connect to my phone while other PCs (windows) in my home can connect to my phone.
Im in the same boat and I cant get the darn thing to connect when to the XDA-wifi-sharing (adhoc) network on my wm touch pro 2. I wish someone could solve this. I used to be able to dual boot my phone into android 2.2 (rooted) system and set up the hot spot on that and it would connect but that doesnt even work now for A7. I wish someone who really knows this stuff would give it some attention. Ive looked everywhere I find a search query. This is especially annoying since I cant switch to a different phone for at least another six months and I use the phone to get remote access to the internet for all my hardware.
I've got a work around if you are up to it. I starting thinking about a previous user using barnicle. So I ported Andriod to my WM6.5 TP2 CMDA http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/downloads. I launched Andriod from my WM and went to Android Market place and downloaded barnicle. Lauched barnicle and connected my A7. It works. I just have to remember to boot into Andriod when I want to tether.

Is there another place to get the adhoc-fix.zip? I have tried pulling it down but without any luck.
Glad to see you keeping this alive. I did the same thing except the android rom i installed on tp2 had a wifi hotspot feature built into the wireless settings. Its a pain going back and forth though and i find wm is way more stable. I saw someone mention wifi encryption ane cmod on a file. I dont know much about these and how to fiddle with it but im gonna keep searchin.

Ninetoes49 was nice enough to povide a link to the adhoc-fix.zip file at the following site:
http://www.4shared.com/file/dHDOwV-T/adhoc-fix.html
After installing,, my A7 saw the barnicle SSID. I haven't used WPA yet but at least the wifi link is working.
I have windows mobile phone and barnicle is for android. From reading alot, i guess froyo (android 2.2) has problems with WEP connections. The tethering program i use on windows mobile, xda wifi-sharing, uses wep encryption only. Im wondering if something can be changed within the code to make it open like it is in android tethering program which works fine. I would keep using android on windows mobile phone except has no bluetooth functionality and its freezes up a lot. By the way, ive noticed problems with the a7 dropped from home wep networks ive been on too.

I wish I could help more but I am not familiar with Windows Mobile products.
I have been wondering if I should even fool with encryption on my mobile setup. I figure no one can jump on if its not running. I only use it occassionaly. Is it possible that enough people in a given area could "clog" the connection if I don't limit access with encryption?
wep
I'm assuming you have a key assigned in the WEP setup. Basically WEP is not secure since there are tools readily available to crack the key you use in less than 10min. If you don't broadcast the ssid that would make it more difficult since most people would not see the network readily. You would have to try that to see if you can access with an ssid that is not being broadcast. Some systems have a problem connecting to wireless networks that aren't broadcasting the ssid.
I am connecting to my home net using WPA/WPA2 with no problem. I have not connected to a tethering capability.

I have a TP2 (Sprint) and had the same issues as you do. I was using the XDA wifi sharing app but have found an older version of wmwifirouter that works and doesn't require a wep.
There is one caveat though. Using the app has broke my internet sharing one time causing me to have to clear storage. So, if you check the net for wmwifirouter 0.91 and use that, you should be able to connect after the adhoc fix is flashed on your a7.

Thanks Marbieskarb -- for the older version tip of wimwifirouter 0.91 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=152502&d=1233460803 It worked for me too but after I applied the adhoc fix discuss earlier in this thread. So, now I do not have to dual boot my TP2 to Andriod just to use a tethering app. Great. I'm running wimwifirouter on TP 2 WM6.5.

I have been taking advantage of the all you can eat data on the 3 network UK. They currently allow you upto 80gb data transfere in one month on your phone. Up till now it has been working great but since last night, 30th Sept it refuses to connect for wireless tether. Normal internet on the phone is fine, I am using it now to post this. Even with apps from the Market, such as Wireless Tether, Barnacle and Open Garden wifi, the same problem still persists. I have even tried to connect on a risky open network with no password but the same could not connect message is displayed. I have tried going back onto Roms where I had no problems with tether and still can't connect. I have task 29 and loaded everthing from scratch and still the same. I have also cleaned my similar, nothing seems to work.
Has 3 UK changed the apn settings for tethering as they offer this on another plan they have or perhaps the solution is more simple to fix.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi,
Mate I'm exactly in the same problem and I'm hating 3. I used to tether and use internet using apps yesterday and today I'm facing this DISASTER!

They probably have it User Agent filtered. So there servers see that the User Agent is of desktop origin and not mobile. You may have to google around for a way around it. Im sure there has gotta be one. Im starting to hate how all these cell phone companies wanna charge for tethering. Data is data, period. How can using my laptop to browse the web be any more costly to the cell provider? If anything it would use more data, but if there is a cap then thats my problem not anyone else's. -.- why is everything about money all the time?!
I just installed a new rom after not using my N7 for a few months. As soon as I used it, it seemed to work fine. Then I tried using an app I downloaded and it said no connection. I tried fixing my connection thinking it was the router. I reset it and started from scratch but still, no connection. My laptop and cell phone wifi worked fine. Then I figured I'd try something. Since the whole time, it said that my connection was perfect and I was a couple feet from the router I decided to try another app. Play Store worked fine. I tried googling the issue in Chrome and I had the search results returned fine. But when you go to a certain site, it says no internet connection. If it helps, the rom is the Penguin Rom 1.1.
That doesn't sound like a WiFi problem.
More likely:
- remote site down
- firewall/NAT issues depending on what your (nefarious?) app does
- DNS black hole (ad blocker?)
- blocking by your ISP? (rarely)
only way to know for sure is to use a packet sniffer or possibly using routers' logging facilities, depending on what it is capable of.
good luck
Hi,
Redmi Note 4G (HM NOTE 1LTE)
Android 4.4.4 KTU84P
MIUI 5.3.27 (latest weekly).
The phone succeeds connecting to the internet through the mobile network.
When setting a hotspot in the phone, I succeed to connect to the phone from my laptop, but there is no internet access in my laptop.
The strange thing is, that if I'm connecting the laptop to the phone through the USB cable, and turn tathering in the phone through USB, and connect to the phone to the WIFI network, the laptop succeeds to access the internet through the phone.
Once I set the phone to go to the internet through the mobile network, the laptop loses the access to the internet.
Thanks,
Ofir.
What OS do you use in the laptop? There are some old and well known issues with WiFi tethering and Windows (these can be solved). If you use Windows, I'm pretty sure that your phone is OK.

Windows 7. But I'm sure it is not the laptop, as I do succeed to use a hotspot with the same SIM when used from iPhone...
Also, as written, the hotspot is working when connected over USB and the phone connects over WIFI.
The issue I'm talking about exists specifically between Windows 7 and Android devices only. I faced that with some phones I had. Just google "wifi tethering android windows 7 not working" to find that there are many people with this problem (like this).
Just to be sure you could try to connect with another laptop running another system (I never had a problem with Linux - Ubuntu/Mint/Fedora/Gentoo). If you don't have one, you can download and burn a live CD.
Most suggestions are installing third party apps, you can try some free apps on Play Store which perhaps enable tethering in some more compatible way. I solved my issues with an init.d script but don't remember what it exactly did (changed some sysctl values every boot).
Or you could change ROM and see if problem is solved. Try Mokee, or MIUI v6.

Thanks!!!
What has solved it was installing a tathering rooted app. It seems that in this phone, even if my service provider allows me to use a hot spot, and although the phone interface allows me to activate the hot spot, I still had to root the machine and install such app to really enable it.
