When I bought this phone the operating system allowed the Base 4Gb RAM to be augmented with the inserted 16GB SD Card. This meant that the phone could use more than the 4Gb for the System. For some reason - I suspect one of the previous firmware updates - this doesn't appear to work any more. It's become evident because the phone only has a couple of Apps loaded and keeps complaining about being low on memory. 4.4Gb of 4.6Gb used. All the photos and videos are on the SD Card, the few that are on there anyway. Most have been deleted in the desperate search for where the memory has been used. Can anyone tell me if my suspicion about the firmward upgrade removing the SD Card RAM is correct please?
As far as I know ... you can use a external sd card of 128 GB if you want to. The internal sd-card is small (considering what is left) so don't use too much space by apps, images, backup etc.... and place all what is possible on the external sd-card.
Your RAM is 1.5 GB Your system almost 3.6 GB ....so I think that in your case the total is 24 GB and only 3 GB left on the internal card .... this is normal.
Don't confuse memory with Ram.

That's funny, RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is Memory. (I built my first computer in 1977). Thanks for your response but what I was asking about is the manufacturers firmware versions and which one stopped making the SD Card memory available to use as System RAM.

So i have to standard 16gb sd card, and i know that about 2 gigs are full just from the programs, and reservation the phone puts on it, but so far i have 10 out of the 14 Gigabytes stored, and it says memory full... only 10 out of the 14 are full, and yet it wont let me put anything on the phone or even take pictures because the memory is apparently "full". does this happen to anyone else?
its full because you are using it. I bet you move all kind of cache onto your sd card and install all kinds of programs in there too.
But the card still says i have 4 gb left of OPEN UNUSED SPACE!
Is it possible and if so how do i do it? Im using 1 gig build and i just figured i should use it and not let it go to waste.
Well android hasnt gotten to the point of getting it installed to internal memory so no, you cant put music on internal memory, since android runs off the SD card you can put your music there and plenty of it depending on what size the SD card is.
Hi,
I have bought a 32GB micro sd card from Sandisk, recently. Before I had a 16GB from Sandisk. With the new card I suddenly have a battery consumption in standby from 15 to 20% over night. Before 3-5%. I thought it must be something wrong with the card. I ordered a 32GB card from Transcend - and it´s the same behavior.
So, what is this?? It seems that with 16GB all is fine and with 32...
There are no active programs, no data connection and nothing installed on the card. I have formatted the card again in the device - nothing changing.
Put the card in your computer, copy all the contents off it, format it and copy them all back on. Don't format the card in the phone.
I had same problem with a Sandisk 32GB which was bought from a reputable reseller. Tried everything and in the end gave up and now live with a 16GB just fine.
Strange ........ I am now with Sandisk 32gb for 4 month and absolutely nothing changed in batt drainage ...... 5% overnight with all caches possible moved to sd.
Maybe depends on interval wm has to write to storage card ? email-att., update files? meaning that batt consumption is higher for each read-write cycle ?
This is what I have tried first: Copy all my stuff on the card and put it in the phone. Later I have formatted it in the PC - copy all stuff - put it in the phone.
At the end I have formatted it in the phone, without copy anything on it.
No change, the same behavior, whatever I have tried.

This would be logical, when there is something to write on the card. But I put the blank formatted card in the phone! No apps installed on it, no e-mail, etc. Closed all apps and no data connection, wlan, bluetooth, etc. Pure standby!
Now I am happy with ROM 3.14!
I have updated to ROM 3.14 and now it´s working! Power consumption for both cards 16 and 32gb is equal now. Seemingly it was a malfunktion in the 1.48 ROM in conjunction with 32gb cards.

i think the problem is that you have not installed the sd card hotfix from htc on your 1.48 rom...which is usually included in next versions of rom
"Update for HTC HD2 SD Card Storage Cards
This update for HTC HD2 allows the HD2 to properly read the amount of free space on a storage card, so you can take as many photos or videos as possible. It also enhances support for some sizes of storage cards."

Should not be the problem, because I had ALL updates installed on the 1.48 ROM.
I was wondering if anyone has done a test of a Focus with and without a memory card installed for speed. There are Youtube videos showing that the Focus will boot into games faster than the HD7. The thought seems to be that the HD7 is using SD cards and the Focus is using NAND memory.
If you install an SD card in the Focus does it slow down because it is now also using SD memory and that is now the bottleneck?
When I installed a class 6 16GB MicroSDHC, I did hard reset via the att website instructions, not the quick guide ones. It showed around 22.?GB of space. I got errors when trying to use Netflix, YouTube, and few other apps. When I powered off and back on my memory was wiped, and it showed around 15GB space. I din't have time to notice speed. As far as browsing the phone it didn't seem different with or with out memory.
If WP7 truly stripes the data between NAND and micro-SD, it should be faster with the card as long as the SD card is not twice as slow as NAND memory (assuming you use an 8GB card). Would like to hear the real life results though.
Even though I got 32gb internal and having Samsung 32gb sd card, I selected the option to make 'Sd as Internal' (I thought that in future I'm gonna install huge games and there would be internal memory lack).
But after doing this I can't see my internal Storage and same time Im sensing that my 32gb internal will be not fully used. And I know(as I have some android knowledge) apps in internal(system) will run smoothly than in sd card. And class 10 sd card is good for media not for system contact. Now I have to dump my data(songs&movies) in the same storage where system treating it as 'Internal'. So I may not put huge data in my sd card at where as my internal will be some what unused much.
If you have 32gb internal(this is almost enough to run apps without lags) and 32gb sd(more songs&stuff) I suggest you "Don't make your Sd as Internal".
This is my opinion. What's yours? Am I correct or You want to change my mind throwing some light?
yeah I did the same thing!! 32 gb is enough for apps

I agree. With Android 6 the 'external' storage (microsd card) can no longer be used for moving apps to. It's data storage only. When you have a phone with limited memory (say 8 GB) and want more to store your apps, you can use the SD as internal. This will format (and encrypt?) the SD and replace the internal storage.
As SD is generally slower, I would advice against it. When in a couple of years we're at Android Z and the 32 GB is indeed a bit small, you can opt to go to the 128 GB SD, but until then I would use it for data only. (I have my Titanium and TWRP backups on it, next to some media, nothing more)
32 GB (23~25 usable) is more than enough for apps and few games..and I don't recommend to use SD card as internal..unless your device has only 8gb memory then use a high end SD card..such as Samsung evo+ or pro. (Correct me if I am wrong but I think Google introduced this feature for their low end Android one phones..)
Don't do it , formatting sd card as internal will reduce its performance and also it will be encrypted. So you can't use the data with in it without the same phone you have formated it with. Since g4 plus have 32 gb internal it's totally unnecessary
