Hello everyone, new xda user here. So I have a korean LG v20 I bought used 2 years ago. Bought it because it had a replaceable battery and for these past 2 years, I have been happy using it stock and updated in to android 9 when that came out.
Lately, I have been getting an itch to install some mods and stuff but I'am clueless on where to start. I used to jailbreak iphones and ipads back in ios 6-8 and I had some experience rooting and installing xposed modules on some budget xiaomi and lenovo phones but that's the extent of my knowledge. I was wondering if someone could point me to the right direction... Threads to read and what not.
I've been reading some older threads here but I'm not too sure if it would still apply in a v20 on android 9. I'm guessing I would have to downgrade my software or something. Any comments or tips would be really helpful.
As for what I'm looking to do. It mainly has something to do with the second screen and modding it. Thanks in advance.
What model do you have?

Hi guys, long time user of the forums but only really decided to join up now. I hope you're all well.
I've got the S8+ and S8 about 3 weeks ago. I work for an agency that deals with Samsung and in return we were given 5-10 models all locked with GNU, KNOX and etc to basically just play around with and demo for our clients. I took 2 of them home and well, you already know, my friend ODIN came along lol.
Anyway, if any of you guys have any questions about It, feel free to ask. I'm currently trying my best to root it and code something up but to no avail.
Peace.

Welcome to XDA-Developers youngdagger! :good:
This phone was leaked to Hell & back & got a lot of coverage after the official announcement/introduction,so,probably not too many questions that haven't been answered.
Not a lot of in-depth reviews ATM,how 'bout sharing w/us your Pro/Con list & if any,odd peculiatities/something new not mentioned elsewhere.
Personal preference,the S8 OR S8+?
THX & again,Welcome To XDA-Developers!
We are all wondering about battery life when using the S8+ and some decent usage at that. Any thoughts yet?

Odin? I dont suppose you have any news for us with regards to root or bl unlock capability?
Like others have mentioned, but also added a few of my own:
Battery life?
You prefer S8 or S8+?
Pros/Cons?
How's the camera? I know that it's also 12MP, like in the S7, but I do wonder about the improvements this time around?
I'm aware that the voice features for Bixby won't be working at launch, but how're the other features?
How accurate is the iris scanner?
Of the unlocking methods, which one is the fastest to unlock the device?
Im thinking about getting a Tab 8 plus 4/64 to replace my Nexus 7 2013.
I don't see much development support for the Tab 8 Plus. Great to see TWRP and root.
Do you think there will be an XDA community for this device?
There are so few upgrade choices from the Nexus 7.

There seems to be a problem in terms of availability for the tablet worldwide, which is why very few reports have come through.
I have specifically bought this Tab 4 Plus with WiFi and 64GB storage as a Nexus 7 replacement and I am super happy with the decision. Custom recovery and root works as described. Give it a couple of weeks and I assume there will be a dedicated forum for the Tab 4 Plus here on XDA. And as soon as Lenovo publishes the kernel sources for the device, there will be many custom ROMs to choose from.
Right now, the Android on the device is pretty vanilla and serves its purpose very well.
Giving this thread a bump. Dev support for this device still seems pretty quiet. Been eyeing the 4/64 GB on eBay for $330. It ships from Korea.

Do you know if it passes SafetyNet with Magisk 14.3 and Magisk Hide or if it will require a custom kernel to hide the bootloader status?
Hey, I got myself a Tab 4 8 Plus from South Korea recently - the 4 GB RAM / 64 GB storage version. I've used CyanogenMod and LineageOS for ages on my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2013, and I'm a little sad the Tab isn't supported yet. If anyone involved in development is interested, I'd be happy to help however I can with my device. I'm not familiar with Android development, however - I'd totally try and port LineageOS to this if I could.
there's a guy in the root thread that was saying he was starting a debloated ROM. lets see if he delivers. this sure is the best android tablet in the market!
Hi guys, I just got this tablet from singapore seller, but it come with chinese rom,
I'm not familiar with lenovo (use to be xiaomi fans).
Is there any tutorial available to change it to global rom? and is there any forum to discuss bugs on each rom version like on the xiaomi miui forum?
I can't find any donwloadable link in the lenovo web support.
Thanks
I did get a Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus to replace my aging Nexus 7 2013. Unfortunately, that was two months ago now and I'm still using my Nexus as this Tab 4 keeps cooking uSD cards. Apparently it's a known problem, some say hardware, some say software, some claim it was fixed with the December 2017 update, some say it's still there. Either way, I want to root this potentially sweet tablet and drop on Lineage or something custom before I give up on it, but for that I want a decent custom ROM.

Since the source code was published by Lenovo there is now a good chance to get something custom if there will be a developer to help us out building a rom.
I did read a lot of complaints about a lack of source code from lenovo, but it was released in November from what I can see. That's six months ago, so I wouldn't hold my breath for anything useful soon.
This nifty little tablet is really awesome. The almost stock android experience is nice... But the additional customisations of a custom ROM would be helpful. Right now lenovos system UI is quite picky about being modded and would FC when I try to tweak the nav bar.
yes, maybe after oreo update there will be some custom rom...

I use Xposed and GravityBox to modify the look of the Nav bar.

1. From people who own it is it generally a good phone and are y'all happy with it?
2. I saw the thread about rooting the US. Snapdragon version i'd like to know if there's anything different/would stop me from rooting since ill be getting it on Verizon? PS. ill be activating it on Verizon but buying it at BestBuy in case that makes a difference.
Thanks for your help

Personally knowing what I know now I'd be looking at a different phone. These things are carrier owned locked bootloader with no unlock on the horizon. The root method sucks with it being so long and complicated, reminds of the Sony Xperia days. Plus you lose 20% battery and there's no fix because locked bootloader. The list can go on but why bother I think you'll get the point. Have fun
I would suggest you OnePlus 5T if you want root, custom roms ecc. But if you want a freaking georgous screen that stretches at it's maximum, a great camera, and overall great build and design I would suggest S8. I have not rooted it yet, and personally I don't find the need to do it. Regarding the looks I can change through substratum or through custom themes(which just install as a normal apk but change even the notification bar). As far as speed goes it is pretty good, been using it for 5months and never noticed a big lag that bothered me.

It is a great phone, with an amazing screen, it´s super fast, has good batterylife and a great camera. All of it even with a stock Samsung ROM.
That said, if you are used to rooting your phones and installing different Custom ROMs and Mods, maybe the US S8 isn´t right for you. It´s a real hassle to root and it can only be charged to 80% after root. The ROM and Mod development is very slowly picking up with Flashfire, although I´m confident we will see some more ROMs in the future, since the installbase is quite big.
So, the Phone is great on it´s own, but I personally wouldn´t buy the US Version, if I would want to use Custom ROMs or Mods.
As everybody said its a great phone as it is . No need for root and custom roms . But if you are really into these things then don't buy it from any carrier .
Hey All,
Looking at picking up one of these phones certified refurbished from Amazon for about $170. I'm wondering what version of Android I can expect OR get automatically updated to when I set the phone up?
I really want (need) some of the features in Nougat, but want to make sure it'll get there without me having to relive my youth as a rom chasing nerd (which I loved but am too old to do these days lol).
Any other advice around this phone (or other similar "cheap" deals) people have will be appreciated.
Thanks much!
I wouldn't recommend getting a 6P due to the infamous bootloop issue caused by the Snapdragon 810 processor and the early shutdown issue caused by the battery. Also, it only has about 5 months of support from Google left. After that there will be no more security patches, official updates to Android 9.0, etc.
To answer your question: the 6P will probably come with Marshmallow or Nougat and is upgradable to Oreo.
I'd recommend getting a Google Pixel or Pixel XL. It will come with a least Nougat and is upgradable to Oreo. If you MUST have a Nexus device, the refurbished Nexus 6 my dad got from Amazon recently is pretty good. It came with Nougat installed, but that's the newest version of Android officially available for it.
Thanks for the tips man, I appreciate the advice!
Hello good people of XDA,
I come again, seeking assistance from the knowledge y'all have acquired with rooting and "fixing" android devices.
This time, my adventures have landed me in a position of owning a Galaxy Tab4 8" model SM-t330nu. And I purchased it with
the intent of rooting it and playing with different custom roms, and making it function better as I know Samsung devices are full of bloatware.
I was able to purchase the tablet relatively inexpensive, but soon found it to be super laggy and slow, though I do not know the issue, unless it's to do with the age of the device being 5 years old. I have traversed through the pages of the Tab and have learned that it is not much supported in terms of custom firmware, and not even TWRP is available for it. This made me sad.
The last time I had rooted a device was quite some time ago, so I have forgotten a lot of the processes. If it would not be too much, can someone guide me in the direction of an available rom as well as a custom recovery so that I may flash my rom. And since I have become rusty, if there exists a step by step guide? I am really good at those
Thank you all for reading
Is there anyone willing to take a shot?
