Thanks to A11 I can't gain access to my data and obb folder on the microsd anymore, I was wondering if there were any working file managers out right now that allow access to all files. I know that X-Plore allows access to the internal drive's data and obb folder, but it can't access microsd data and obb folders.

I can't seem to find "anydroid file manager". Is it on the google play store by any chance?
Ah, nvm, I failed to read this part
"Legacy access allows apps to have broad access to the device’s storage without being subjected to Scoped Storage restrictions. However, all apps that target Android 11 (API level 30) and above are subject to Scoped Storage restrictions and cannot request legacy access to device storage. Instead, they must request a new permission called MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (shown to the user as “All Files Access”) to be given broad storage access (excluding a handful of directories like /Android/data or /Android/obb)."
I guess I have no way to access the android and obb folders of the microsd....
root explorer?

You can have a 16Gb memory card but the /System folder is actually part of your data.img so will have a limited size. It's also a vital part of the Android subsystem so messing about in there can break everything.
If you want to copy files into it, the easiest thing to do is hook up your phone via usb and use Droid Explorer or a similar ADB file system utility.

so basically i need to change the image from 1gb to 2gb from the startup
and the system folder will change aswell?
and im copying apk files to app folder
but cant put to many because room limit
That may not work, I am pretty sure the System folder has a limited size (think of it as a partition, rather than a folder). Someone else maybe able to correct me on that though...
Hi,
I wanted to move some apps from the ext-partition of my cm6-based rom back to the internal memory. I tried moving the apk from /sd-ext/app to /system/app with ES-File Explorer but this broke the apps (FC). Do I need to move more files or is there another trick to get this to work?
Try moving app from data app to system app. I use root explorer for this and works fine
I've got no "app" folder in my /data/ folder

If you're using estrongs I'm not sure you'd see it. Root explorer works for me but ADB is another way to do it. If you have an ext partition on SD all downloaded apps will go there but some file managers I used don't access bits of data on my SD : )
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA Premium App
The feeds downloads from DoggCatcher (DC) were stuffing up my internal memory so I thought "Why not store the feeds data in the external SD?"
Surely enough, there is provision, under "Settings"/Miscellaneous/Storage Directory" in DC, to change where the media files are to be kept.
I selected "/sdcard/extStorages/sdCard" with the pop-up window browsing option and the app instructed (via another pop-up window) to change the already downloaded episodes manually from the old storage directory (internal memory) to the new directory, which I did, using the system's File Manager.
DC also informed that, for the new preference to be validated, the app would have to be restarted, which it did, automatically.
The problem:
Although the previously downloaded episodes do correctly show up in DC and can be played from their new storage directory, I keep getting "DL (download) failed" messages for any new ones.
It's like DC is unable to download and send any new episode to the newly designated storage folder in the external MicroSD.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Unless you're rooted and have performed the SD write permissions fix, apps besides My Files can't write there.

Ok...Must be it, then...Thanks...
I've found this (...I'll have to do a crash course on this subject):
"I've found a simple solution for gaining write access to the external sdcard (/mnt/sdcard2) on Android 3.2. The sdcard is mounted r/w, but the owning group is media_rw which is linked to the WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE permission. Unfortunately, this permission was not required for access to the external sdcard prior to 3.2 so most file management utilities do not request it when they run...meaning they only have read access to the card.
The simple solution, if you're rooted, is as follows:
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions and make sure you have mounted the file system r/w.
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart your tablet.
After this change, any apps that request the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission (which includes almost anything that access either of the sdcards) will gain group membership in both sdcard_rw AND media_rw, giving them r/w access to both sdcard filesystems.

Done...!
(...Man, I really do love this forum...)
Thanks!

hi folks,
can anyone explain to me how the the available internal memory is reported in settings->storage on the i9505? mine seems pretty nonsensical.
its reported as follows:
total space 9.25gb
applications 1.74gb
pictures videos 12.54mb
audio 240kb
downloads 20mb
miscellaneous 435mb
available 2.32gb
furthermore, es file explorer is reporting that 6.92gb out of 9.25gb available memory is used, which matches the 2.32gb available reported in settings->storage.
so where is the remaining 4.7gb??!?
i used the sd card analyser in es file explorer to see what's going on and where the data is but adding up all the data there does not account for the missing 4.7gb??
any clues?

Hi,
Have you perhaps made a nandroid backup which saved to your internal memory?
hi malybru. no - i've done nandroid to extSdCard. if i had mistakenly done it to internal, the data would show up in the clockworkmod folder anyway, which it doesn't.
i have flashed to official BTU roms from odin, without wipe, and rooted afterwards each time. could this have anything to do with it?
when i attach the phone to my windows laptop and examine the internal memory in windows explorer, under properties the phone memory is saying 6.92gb used out of 9.25, yet when i select all the files and go to properties, it only adds up to 500-500mb?!?

Hi,
I use a great app from the market, called "FX File Explorer"
It has a "View " button at the bottom of the page which will show you a breakdown of the data on your phone.
Click it when you are in your Main Storage.
It might help to locate some stuff that should not be there.
If not,it's still a great app to have.
yes es file explorer has the same thing. there's no sign anywhere of the missing 4.7gb data! all the files add up to about 600mb.
i still have no clue about this. how about if i backup all the files, reformat internal storage in recovery, copy files back?
i had this problem before.. then i checked data/media.. there should only be 3 folders there which are: 0, legacy and obb.. move every other folder to 0.. hope this helps..

you sir are a genius. that was it. there was a clockworkmod folder in data/media with a nandroid backup in it. deleted it and missing storage recovered! thanks!
This was a bit unexpected. Lollipop is supposed to make using SDCARD (in this case there is NO sdcard) more sensible.
However now I can't copy any files to Nexus in MTP mode. I can do that in P2P mode but only to the picture folders. Any suggestions on that? Selinux setting?
And, yes, I did try making a new folder but no joy. I also noticed I can't see app-specific folders such as titaniumbackup.

I just upgraded my N10 to Lollipop yesterday. I'm rooted, have SELinux Mode Changer (set to permissive mode) and have USB OTG Helper [root]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.shajul.usbotg&hl=en installed. That gives me full unfettered RW access to my OTG SDCard reader. USB OTG Helper expands the number of SDCard file formats that Android supports. I have mine formatted to ext4 to remove the 2GB file limit but thats just my requirement. I used ES File Explorer to access the SDCard and move/copy files, although I'm sure many other file managers would have worked.
I hope that info helps.
It's not an actual SDCARD but the internal emulated sdcard which is being difficult.

I am in the same boat. I want to restore some apps I backed up in 4.4.4 and lollipop won't read the backup folders in the root directory. I can see and access them via pc, but not through Android. I tried using Titanium & MyBack Up Pro w/ SU access. No dice. Like you, I also tried moving the folders to my Desktop and back. Renaming, creating new folders, etc..., doesn't help.
I can't work around the issue. My current thinking is that we are dealing with a security feature. It seems like all my 4.4.4 folders with user info in them are walled off.
Grrrrr
