I purchased the MK808B but my 1080i HDTV (samsung HP-T5064) does not show any image ("Not Supported Mode") probably being incompatible with the default 1080p output from MK808B. At the moment I do not have access to another TV or monitor with 1080p to be able to change the output to 720p. I am looking to purchase a HDMI to DVI-D adapter to hook up the MK808B to one of the monitors I have but not sure if that will work. Any suggestions ?
Thanks !

Go to freaktab.com and find one of the Finless ROMs for it. Flash that using the readme instructions, and it will explain how to choose the right kernel for the setting you want. I think 720p is default.

Thanks for the suggestion. I flashed the Finless ROM 2.1 with the default 720p setting. My TV still does not show any image ("Not Supported Mode"). Maybe the problem is with Samsung TV being 5 years old. I, off course, cannot check the actual output from the device to ensure that ROM was flashed correctly. The HDMI to DVI-D adapter should arrive sometime next week and I will then try connecting the device to my computer monitor.

MK808B changing default resolution-SOLVED
I managed to get the TV to recognize the MK808B by flashing Finless ROM 1.7. I had previously tried 2.1 with default 720p resolution but the it did not work. Not sure why, but for the time being I will stay with 1.7.
Thanks for all the help

I could use some help.
I tried resetting back to factory settings. I originally had it connected through my yamaha receiver. I thought that was the problem but then I connected it directly to the projector. Still the same result. stuck at 480p. I've tried it on my 720p plasma and it works fine. There are no video output settings I can change apart from optimize for resolution or framerate in developers options.
Tried switching HDMI cables also.
There is no options on the projector to force resolution, since it auto detects resolution.
After more troubleshooting, seems this is an HDCP/EDID issue with the nexus player and projector combination.
Google Play Movies will only play a blank screen with sound.
Tried switching to a 1080p monitor with a movie playing and it shows up fine on the monitor. Auto switches to the correct resolution and keeps on playing while hot swapping the cables.
I tried chromecast on the projector and it works fine at 720p resolution.
At this point dont know what else I can do.
I've had problems with my Acer H5360 projector, which apparently displays the wrong black levels. It's also had EDID problems before (the chip was not read-only, and got corrupted) and different devices handled the default fallback differently. Is it possible your EDID is corrupted?
I dont belive the projectors edid is corrupted because my receiver lists all the capable resolutions it supports. Chromecast works fine, ps3 auto detects all the resolutions including 3d. Only having the issue with the nexus player. It defaults to 720*480 60hz. I coonected the nexus player to my monitor and it automatically showed 1080p. Flashed the latest update that was released. Still no luck when i reconnected it.
If you take a look at the other thread, the EDID for that guy's system showed that it supported 1080p, but the first timing it declared happened to be a lower resolution, and the Nexus Player just picked that one and went with it, not checking for a higher supported resolution.
That should be something they can fix with a software update, so hopefully they're aware of it and maybe we'll get an update sooner than later.
Got the same problem, same projector, my workaround was to use my old google tv (sony nsz-gs7) and use it as a bypass so my projector would detect it's a 720p projector -_- until they find a workaround....
Did anyone find a solution for this problem? Having the same issue on my Optoma.
Thnx
HI,
I've a samsung s9+ with original Dex station (not dex pad).
In resolution chooser i've only automatic, FHD and HD+ selectable. WQHD (2560x1440) is in gray and non selectable. I've tried both my monitor 2k and tv 4k. Max is 1080p.
It's normal?
In one s8 tread someone with the oreo update can switch 2k with this station.

isn't enabled. in max power mode and WQHD+ enabled, same thing.
it's possible the DEX STATION (1st model) only support 1080p? Anyone use it with 1440p?

Same problem with me. I have the original Dex station and I plug it into my 4K TV and 1440p is grayed out. Really disappointed as that was one of the features I was mostly looking forward to

There has been only one 1440p desktop screenshot on Google's image search with a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Samsung DEX pad. It's also in German. I don't think the Galaxy S9 series with the DEX pad can do 4K or 2160p.
S9+ Dex pad all cables from samsung option greyed out on Sony 4k tv , WTF! SAMSUNG , XDA help lol !!!!!!

Ok so I changed inputs on my sony XBR-43x800e from 3 to 2 and it enable the WQHD, which is strange since both are 4k ports per sony , Iswapped them back and forth again and now neither will go 4k for the Dex pad but both are for the xbox x . So just bad programming on samsungs part it would seem .

Is it still working for you to get wqhd on the dex? I bought the note 9 to use it with dex, but the option for wqhd is not available?? it is grayed out.
Sadly, I'm led to believe that the WQHD mode is limited to certain TV sets and limited supported refresh rates at WQHD resolution.
Most youtube video reviews of the dexpad show it greyed out. The only time I saw it work was on a youtube vid where it was connected to a samsung branded 4k TV. (And then the author of the video plugged it into a streaming capture device where the resolution went back down to 1080p)
I've got a Dell P2715Q 4K screen and in Dex mode its never done 4k, nor WQHD.
Except, if you get out of dex mode, and put it into screen mirroring mode - 4k does work. I can verify by opening the Menu on the Dell - the resolution and refresh rate is written in the corner is 4k 60hz. But in Dex mode I only get 1080p
Same problem here
I got a galaxy S9+ with latest update (oreo), 4k samsung tv (2018) and the 4k option is gray out. WTF Samsung
I had the issue with third party adapters, the wqhd is greyed out, but i got the dexpad and the wqhd showed up. I used same monitor and cables.

I get mixed results, I feel it may be related to the tv and the phone and the reboot power up sequence and timing , until Linux on Galaxy is released I have no use for it , wifi direct with mirror cast/google cast/ whatever works ok for wireless display and then connect usb or bluetooth devices to phone . Netflix didnt work well over either so there goes one of my main things was 4k netflix without hotspot tethering .
Talking with Samsung support, they informed that it is not supported and possibly will work on S10 (but not sure (yes, the support said that))
As far as I understand, the output is limited to certain displays, mostly Samsung TVs. I'm using the Tewejia dongle which works, sort of. I've got WQHD working on a Vizio display but I'm not sure if that TV is just supported, or the dongle might have something to do with it.
I've got mixed results...
My 1080p LG TV didn't workout with the Dex Station.
My 1080p 9 years old AOC monitor did.
Any other monitor below 1080p didn't worked out too...
So I sold my Dex.
S9 + Samsung USB-C monitor directly attached to phone = FHD ??? How to overwrite max resolution settings?
Hello,
I hope first of all that I have caught the right thread here for my question and I've translated it properly.
I have, as the title says, a problem with my DeX-Pad and S9+. On 2 TV sets in the house nothing appears, if I have connected the Smartphone via DeX to the TV. The TV remains black, but the message "HDMI connected" (or something similar) appears briefly on the mobile phone display. The curious thing is that the whole thing works when I'm at the TV in the bedroom, but not at the TV in the living room and the study (where the whole thing is supposed to be used). But if I connect the LG V30 to all TVs via the pad, it works too! The first time I tried the S9+ recently, it worked in the living room, but not anymore.
I've already tried other power supplies for the pad and other HDMI cables. Also other HDMI inputs on the TV. Whereby it can't be due to the cables and HDMI ports, because it works on one device and on the other with the V30.
I also reset the TV and set the phone to factory settings. All without success. After several attempts I still haven't made any progress and wanted to ask here if someone can help me with the problem? Maybe someone has a solution or advice ready!
Is there any chance to get hdmi ouput vertically? I use my phone portrait mode and I want ky monitor show all full screen without huge borders. I mean I want outpt mirroring resolution like 1080 x 1920 ... Not landscape mode!
Got an Samsung tab today.. s5e and tried on my 55" LG OLED and no dice above HD+ and FHD as 1440p is greyed out.
I was on a 4k60 typeC cable and a Samsung Tablet device from 3Q 2019.
can be numerous of reasons... lack of potent hardware in the tablet, lack of native Samsung Dex cradle or cable, lack of high-res-support for an LG 4K OLED TV 2017.
whatever is the reason and if it is doable on Samsungs part, then Samsung needs to get it sorted otherwise Dex interface will be a dead dino, before it even got some legs to walk on.
The last thing Samsung should think about is limiting this DEX interface if they wanna give it a healthy chance..
thx for the thread, seems it is the norm and the majority have problems reaching above 1080p.
Hi. I bought a Galaxy Note10+ and tried multiple cables and adapters (except Dex Station or Pad) and it never allows me a resolution higher than 1080p when connected to my LG 4K monitor. Sucks.
However, I found the below in their official FAQ:
DeX accessories
Are there any differences between connecting my mobile device to a DeX Station or DeX Pad and connecting it to an HDMI adaptor?
FAQ
An HDMI adaptor doesn't have a fan that can cool your device down. Therefore the maximum number of windows you can open on your the screen of your TV/monitor is limited to five, and also the maximum resolution is limited to FHD only.
※ Note that if you're using an HDMI adapter with a tablet running on Android Pie or a later version, the highest supported resolution is UWQHD.
Hi Guys,
i own a 2K-Monitor (ViewSonic VX3211-2K-MHD) which i want to use to stream YouTube, Netflix & Co.
Therefore today i bought a 4k Firestick - connected it without the flexible adapter (straight into HDMI) and installed all available updates.
Unfortunately i had to recognize that the max resolution i can choose is 1920x1080, also when i enter the Monitor-Menu it shows me the actual resolution, which is also 1920x1080.
Ive read a lot about this topic and the only reason for it - i guess so - is the well known HDMI Version-Thing.
My Monitor has HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2 and HDCP 1.4 on board.
Now ive questions about this and hope you guys can give me a hint to solve my problem:
- Some users reported, that they had the same issue (max. 1920x1080 on a 2k tv/monitor) and solved it with an HDMI>DisplayPort Adapter, cause HDMI (or the specific HDMI-Version) was limiting to 1920x1080 and in some cases the DisplayPort had a newer Version.
In my case the DisplayPort has the version 1.2 which i fear would also limit the 4k FireStick. Does it make sense to try this adapter?
Can you confirm that my HDMI Version is limiting?
(EDIT: I connected my Computer/GTX970Phantom on it and WQHD worked without Problems - so why is the FireStick limiting?)
Can you refer a setup to get 2k running on my monitor for my (streaming) goals?
Can be software sided if it makes sense (rooting, etc.) or Hardware sided (Change the FireStick against other "Media-Boxes" or Hardware.)
Thank you,
E
