Projector Calculator:https://www.projector1.com/projectorcalculator/Does everyone have any better suggestions?

No idea. For projector information you will bet better feedback from AVSForums. I've usually used the calculators on Projectorcentral.com but haven't been in the market in a couple of years.

[TechDream] What I want the Nexus 3 to be...

Okay, so it's almost 3am as I sit in front of this horribly outdated computer, bored, but deprived of any sense of drowsiness. What better to do before I root my Samsung Nexus S 4G than to start a thread of what I'd want the Nexus 3 to have. Sure, there are other things I could do that would be numerous times better than this one, but I engaged in a few news stories on my Pulse App about some new tech that is coming our way, so this is what I decided on. Feel free to add in some good ideas. Laser beams, shark fins for super-duper galactic reception, retina scanner, etc. Most of what I came up with sounds possible (well, possible to me, but probably because I don't understand much of the complications that'll be in place from trying to squeeze all this power into one device). ANYWAY! On to the dream:
4.3" 1280x720 Super AMOLED Plus HD edge-to-edge capacitive touchscreen with Asahi's Dragontrail glass display
1.5Ghz quad-core 28nm mobile processor with 12-core GPU
2GB 30nm dual channel DDR2 mobile RAM
12MP rear facing camera with full 1080p video recording at 60FPS
LED flash for video recording
Xenon flash for still photos
3MP front facing camera
Proximity Sensor
Ambient Light Sensor
Accelerometer
Gyroscope
Bluetooth 3.0
A-GPS
Digital Compass
802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi
MicroUSB 2.0
3.5mm headphone jack
1930 mAH battery
Noise canceling microphones
Made by Samsung. Why? Because the SGS2 is f*cking sick, they make SAP displays, they're making 30nm DDR2 memory, and because apparently Microsoft makes $5 off every HTC device sold with Android OS. So f*ck that.
Anyway, end of nerd-mode. Just felt like sharing
If I'll carry home a phone like that, my PC will probably kill itself.
I don't need a bigger screen. And mostly, I don't want a bigger phone.
I also think 800x480 (or 854x480 like some Motorola/SE devices) it's a pretty damn good resolution for a 4'' display.
1280x720 it's almost 2.5 times the amount of pixels.
Don't think a 2000mA battery can help so much. :/
Rather, I really hope they take care about battery life in the next generation devices (even NS already perform very well).
Lol, my SNS4G is almost as good as my computer =/ it's pretty sad. I just feel, especially with Super AMOLED Plus, a resolution that high for a 4.3" screen (or even a 4") would just be remarkably amazing. The phone-that-shall-not-be-named has a wonderful display due to the resolution, but I just feel like the size is too small (that's what she said?). So with Samsung's amazing displays, but an HD resolution with just blow my mind! I would seriously throw out my desktop and use my phone for everything.
As for battery life, currently the processors we have now are, I believe 40nm? Maybe 45nm. Such is the Hummingbird. So 28nm, whether is be single, dual, or even quad, would be theoretically insanely battery efficient, especially with such high speed RAM at a low 30nm power. SAP displays also would help with battery life and with dual channel RAM it wouldn't overload and drain the battery.
This is all in theory though. Feel free to punch me and call me a dork, lmao. You are right though, battery tech needs to improve, though I hear they've found some good alternatives that are a great deal better than our current tech.
Battery does need to improve. I'd love to trade my rooted inspire 4G and a brand new Google TV Logitech Revue for the HTC Sensation. I'm so in love with that phone lol.

I'm not really sure. It's different. I like accessing the internet/youtube/twitter from my TV, so Google TV is good for that instance. Netflix on it is unbeatable and overall it's nice to own. I don't think it's worth $299 though. I think Google TV is still early and will become something in the months ahead, but I wouldn't pay $299 again. Maybe 150-199$.
The keyboard that it comes with is pretty neat as well.
I think the screen is perfect no need to change 4" is good enough
want htc or sony ericsson to make it
want better and faster processer ofcourse its ganna be upgraded anyway
do not want bigger than nexus s which is current size
must need light notification
need lil better battery life
and some better cameras both front and back
and MUST MUST NEED TO MAKE WORLD PHONE.
other than everything rocks
but this thing need to be changed and must need for next nexus phone
4" is enough for me, super emoled plus, better battery, surround audio speakers, better cameras, better gtalk messenger and a power button placed on the top left of the phone ))
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
well, with a 4.3 inch phone, i think the power button is good to go as it is on the nexus s. having it on top makes it hard to press with one hand.
New specs needed apart from the stuff you said:
- fingerprint recognition on the screen
- extra-high capacity antennas so that roaming is no longer needed. you can connect to your network even if u travel abroad
- I want a 4.7" display.
- A freakin notification led already?
- A 6000 mAh battery. No, I don't care about the number. I want it to last for 20 hours of navigation and audio streaming. Maybe solar + motion + humidity trickle charge would help. I want wireless charging, too, anywhere in my house or car.
- Ambient temp/pressure/humidity sensor.
- Full-size holographic keyboard
- Satellite backup for when I don't have a cell signal.
- Stereo speakers that don't sound like crap.
- Usb host.
- I want it to sense eye movement and automatically flip the page when I'm on the last line.
- Print directly to a wifi printer.
- Screen that's transparent when off. Augmented reality? Oh, baby.
- Fully integrated text-to-speech. Read any text displayed on the screen. With auto-scroll.
- Useable OCR.
- On second right, I might keep the 4" screen. Judging by the reach of my thumb when I'm holding it, I'm inclined to agree with Miriam Joire that 4" is the sweet spot. But...
- I want the screen to wrap around the back or retract into a slot in the left edge like a roll top desk, so I can extend it out to 8" for serious reading. (Hey, it's my dream, alright?)
- Forget kickstands. I want a compact magnetic plate desk accessory for electro-magnetic levitation with user-controlled height & angle.
- How about a built-in projector for movies on the fly?
- While we're at it, I want a retractable knife blade and corkscrew, a cigarette lighter, and a Megawatt laser for frying bacon.

When it gets 3.1 it will be worth it. I wish the PS3 would get Google TV for a UI.

The only thing I would add to that list is an MHL port and a slightly smaller screen.

I completely forgot about that! And didn't they lower the price tag of it to $200? Or was I just dreaming? ._.

HDMI looked good!

I sat down with the family to watch our first "from the TF" movie last night...I hooked up the HDMI cable...and we sat down....
The picture was nothing short of stunning!
The movie ran flawlessly and I was very pleased!
The only thing on my wish-list is a "Gmote" for andoid so I don't have to get up to pause for those snack breaks....
Could you use a bluetooth mouse? I read that several work with the TF.
Yes, the quality is as good as it should be. I thought it was bad at first because my monitor had a special "game" mode which boosted colours and contrast and sharpened the view when I hooked up Transformer (my monitor is Eizo FS2331 - fantastic screen for watching movies with real black beside that). I still notice some grain on the honeycomb wallpaper but it's probably because the monitor is doing the scaling from 1280x720 to 1980x1080 and it's not doing the best job of it.

Would the Galaxy camera be a good buy for me?

I have a sports publication and we do interviews with athletes and coaches. My writers currently use handheld video cameras such as the Flip or Kodak lines to do these videos and then we upload them to our system. Obviously the quality isn't great but we still get nice clean videos that our customers enjoy. Is anyone here able to compare the quality of the video from this camera to something along the lines of what we are using?
Also what are the options currently for live streaming? I assume since most Android apps can be used I could continue using USteam for live video? Again I understand this camera isn't going to replace a high end camcorder but if we can get decent quality I think it would be a good purchase for me.
With the camera still being rather new I'm having trouble finding many sample pics and videos so any links to those would be greatly appreciated and what I would really like to find is some sample streaming videos. Thanks!

It's quite capable of shooting short videos but being built as a camera may not be easy to hand hold if you are primarily going to use it for video capture since there is no proper hand grip.
The picture and video quality are very acceptable but it's not a cheap device.
If your writers have smart phones they can just link the Galaxy Camera to the Hot Spot of the smart phone without having to add a data plan to the camera for uploading or streaming the video?
You should go try out one at your local dealer and see for yourself if it suits your needs.

Android apps work just as well as on an SGS3, zooming apparently doesn't work in some 3rd party apps, but a review mentioned it's being worked on. It won't replace any pricier camcorders or SLR's, but if you get it at a fair discount from its usual over £400 price tag, it's an ok find. If you want good video and Wi-Fi check out Sony's NEX series.
You could always use Youtube for live streaming as well as UStream or similar. The camera has optical image stabilization which is quite good from what I've seen, it compensates nicely even at maximum zoom.
This video might be shot thru a window, looks a bit like that, but still a nice example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV7jOJt7rqM

[Q] Gear VR - is it worth it?

Hey, I don't have the Note 4 yet, but really interested simply for the Gear VR.
My main concern is, is the resolution enough to comfortably (and enjoyably) watch a full HD movie on it?
Any thoughts? I am actually dying to know (without making an expensive mistake of course)!
Thanks.
not worth it. best to wait until we get actual decent 3D goggles with high res screens for each eye.
the only good experience ive had with 3D was with two 4K high res projectors with horizontal+vertical polarization and polarized glasses. worked extremely well.
It depends what you expect. Resolution is about 720p. If you into watching movies or technology lover then is a must. Otherwise you can live without. I got mine and I like it. For a long time we cant expect product what will satisfy everyone.

That's true, but can you comfortably watch an entire movie; does it feel as comfortable as watching a 720p movie on YouTube, or are you bothered by the pixels?
For me is ok. I can watch whole movie laying in bed and looking at the ceiling. Pixels, hmm if you think about them and concentrate on them, then they are there. If you into movie then they are gone. You need to realize that picture bever going to be perfectly sharp but that is the way how optics work. Phone is only about 1.5" from the face.

The Gear VR does indeed come with an adjustment dial; however, I just leave it on the setting closest to my face because that seems to be the best setting [for me].

Although everyone's experience it different, I do not have an issue watching an entire [3D] movie with the Gear on. Is it the most comfortable thing though? Probably not :silly: The pixel issue or screen door effect (or whatever it's called) is definitely there and I won't deny that, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest unless I intentionally look for them pixels

Personally, I think the $200 price tag is nothing for someone who can afford a Note 4.
Think of it like this: $200 for a full 360 degree experience with games and a cinema mode that mimics a screen size that feels larger than anything that can fit in a typical house.
In the end, the decision will be entirely yours.
Have u tried Google cardboard? There are quite a few apps that support it. You can watch 3d trailer from YouTube. The effect is quite good. However, you still able to see pixels on note 4. I guess gear vr will be the same

I actually installed google carboard app on my note and use it with gear vr. It is not the same. Google carboard experience makes me feel like im ready to throw up while oculus app gives very smooth experience i can enjoy for hours. Gear vr has gyro build in and being used by oculus app while carboard relies on phone sensors.

This is an interesting discussion - I am not pixel hungry and I will not go hunting for pixels, however, I want to experience an immersive 3D movie or a 'cinema like effect' when watching a 2D video.
e.g. we can comfortably watch a movie on any laptop reasonably from a distance of 1/2 a meter, providing the experience compares to this, I think it would be ok.
I guess what we have to think about is, its not just the screen thats 1.5" from your eyes, the screen is also somewhat magnified which will add to pixel visiblity.
Its a shame there is no where to try out the Gear VR... I guess thats the only way of knowing for your self and being satisfied. Its expensive overall, for a relatively new craze.

There are several different viewing modes when viewing movies with the VR Cinema, including one that is a virtual movie theater - this is the mode I use when viewing 3D movies because I feel the virtual environment tricks me into believing there is depth.
& I would much rather view movies with the Gear VR, assuming that the video is of high quality.

There are Samsung stores that allow you to test out the Gear VR? I did not even know of their existence until recently stumbling upon an article about it. Not sure if we have any in America S:

do you know you can create your own 3D VR videos... for FREE?

If you don't have the big bucks to spend on a VR camera rig, now there's a solution for you that's 100% FREE
We recently moved our app, Camarada VR (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aimfire.camarada), to public beta. We'd be grateful if you can give it a try, and let us know your comments and suggestions. This app has been in private beta for a few months and been tested on all leading smartphone brands/models. But bugs no doubt still exist, for which we humbly ask for your patience.
Camarada VR is the place to share and enjoy true 3D VR videos, created by YOU!
Camarada syncs and links you and your friends' smartphones to capture true stereoscopic 3D Virtual Reality videos :highfive:. It is the ONLY mobile app that allows you to create videos in 3D!
Enjoy the 3D videos in your Cardboard, Gear VR or 3D glasses, and share it so friends and family can see YOUR life in three dimensions!
It uses sophisticated Computer Vision algorithms to produce high-def 3D videos, and there's absolutely no rig required and no post-processing needed on your part - easy as a pie! See video below for proof:
FAQs
How is Camarada different from existing 360/3D camera apps?
Existing apps capture multiple pictures (or a short video clip), then stitch the pictures (or frames in the short clip) together. They create panoramic 2D pictures which, when viewed in a VR goggle, give an added sense of realism. However, this realism can never be on the same level as true 3D videos! Camarada gives you a far more immersive experience than any of them can. But don't take our words for it - try the app and you will see!
How is Camarada different from Google Cardboard Camera?
Google Cardboard Camera is capable of capturing 3D panoramic photos. It is good for inanimate objects but not dynamic scenes (use it when someone is moving in the scene, and you will know what we mean). In contrast, Camarada captures high-definition 3D VR videos.
Why are two phones needed to capture 3D video? I thought some 3D apps can do this with one device?
You need two cameras capturing at the exact same time and from slightly different angles to have true, stereoscopic 3D, period. There is no way around this - it's physics and it's how our eyes work. Any app that claims to capture "3D" using one phone, is making some tradeoff - either it's for inanimate objects only, or it's not stereoscopic 3D at all.
Do I need two phones of the same kind/model?
No, you don't - you can use any combination of Android devices, whatever you and your friend happen to have. Camarada does the hard work and adjusts for the differences. If you happen to have two identical phones, however, the software can detect and take advantage of this, and in some cases render higher quality results.
I cannot find a friend to capture with me, what can I do?
No problem. With Camarada, you can explore fun and engaging content created by people you know and by people from around the world. Enjoy them, and when opportunity arises, capture your own and share with the world.
Does Camarada capture 360-degree videos?
No. The 3D VR videos Camarada captures currently have roughly 180 degrees field of view. We are actively working on innovative ways to expand the FOV, so stay tuned.
Can Camarada capture 3D photos?
Absolutely! And unlike existing 3D camera apps, it takes 3D photos of any dynamic scene. In other words, it is a REAL 3D camera, not one that can only take 3D pictures of a table, a chair, a vase... you get the idea
I do not have a VR viewer, what can I do?
We support all Google Cardboard variants and Samsung Gear VR. But if you don't have one of these yet, we support 3D glasses and 3D TVs as well (currently only for photos).
It's really cool that you have to utilize 2 phones for it. :highfive:
I've tried other apps like Photo Sphere, Splash and Panorama 360 and this is hands down the best app for 3D VR videos. :good:
