How to update stock fw - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I'm on stock 20c (Oreo) and I'd like to update to a stock 20g (still Oreo) because a) I need to fix my network modules b) I want to stay in Oreo because I have applications that run smoothly in this version (fbind, gravity box, etc.).
I'm rooted with Magisk and TWRP.
Which is the smoother way to upgrade for me ?
Is possible to upgrade though TWRP ? Would it break root and remove TWRP?
Or I need to use LG UP ? But, again, will I loose root and TWRP?
Of course I'm aware (but this is my goal) that in either way I'll have my apps and internal data deleted

Just bought XT1644 - best way to root so that I still get OTA's and security patches?

I am unboxing a new XT1644 - I am going to run the Nougat OTA, after that is done, what is the best root method so that I can get still future OTA's and security patches as they are released? (while remaining rooted)
I plan to keep the phone stock ROM, although I may delete or freeze some bloatware using Link2SD (unless you have a better method to suggest). So I imagine whatever root method will need to be systemless. For flashing software, I will probably just stick with stock recovery or TWRP running via attached Windows 7 computer or else Flashfire.
I am planning to install these apps requiring root:
● AdAway
● Link2SD
● Root Explorer
● SignalCheck Pro
● Trimmer

Unlock your bootloader, which will void warranty.
Flash TWRP to your recovery partition via fastboot
Make sure you boot into TWRP first, then back into system
Install Magisk Manager, then download the latest version of Magisk through the app
Reboot to recovery the BACK UP EVERYTHING
Install the Magisk zip located under /MagiskManager
Reboot to bootloader
Flash stock recovery
Reboot to system
NOTE: If you cannot boot after Magisk is installed, you will need to restore your boot partition from within TWRP.
Personally, I don't think you should root and keep up with OTA, it may brick your system with root. (Never happened to me, I've only seen it happen)
Hit thanks if I helped.

OTA updates after root?

Hi, I have a european S8+ fully rooted and with TWRP.
Everything's working great so far but I read somewhere that I won't receive further OTA updates.
Can I install them manually with TWRP?
If yes, 3 questions:
1. Where can I get them?
2. Do I need every single update or are the newest update always containing the older updates as well?
3. Do I lose root or TWRP after installing an update?
I've rooted with Magisk by the way.
Typically if you're rooted and modified the system partition (BusyBox or twrp or whatever) the update will not install in stock recovery. Usually you have to unroot reinstall stock recovery and flash ota. There's toolkits out that can do that. Or you can just find an awesome rom like a rooted debloated rom thats just recently updated and just flash that. Or you can what till somebody snags the ota update location then posts that.

Questions for upgrading to Oreo - is this correct?

Hi all,
I'm running OOS 4.5.15, unlocked bootloader, still encrypted, xdvs23's TWRP 3.1.1 (build 62 - so quite old) with the latest Magisk. I'm finally ready to upgrade to Oreo and having read some of the threads / guides etc. I think I'm happy to do a full-wipe to upgrade to Oreo and I'm considering going to LineageOS rather than the stock OOS.
As I'm on an old TWRP build that won't work with Oreo, and won't allow me to restore backups I think I need to upgrade to twrp-noapp-3.2.1-0-20180309-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img which will allow me to make a full backup that I could restore later. Once I've got this backup, and a TitaniumBackup I can copy everything off my /sdcard drive to my PC.
I need to lock the bootloader (which will wipe the entire phone) and I can then allow the stock OOS 4.5.15 to upgrade to the latest build of Oreo (5.0.4). I can then unlock the bootloader, re-flash codeworkx TWRP and generally follow the instructions at https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/development/rom-lineageos-15-1-oreo-oneplus-5-t3727228 also installing the latest version of Magisk and then restore from TitaniumBackup the apps I actually still want.
Questions:
1) Can my initial twrp backup happen whilst I still have a lock screen pattern / finger print or does this cause issues if I choose to restore later?
2) I see that there are some ~60MB firmware files from https://sourceforge.net/projects/cheeseburgerdumplings/files/15.1/cheeseburger/firmware/ (e.g. firmware_OP5_O2_Open_8_oneplus5.zip) do I need to do anything with these if I'm having OOS upgrade to the latest 5.0.4 (That is Oreo 8.0 but LineageOS is 8.1)? I've not seen any real info on the different firmwares (rather than the OOS changelog).
3) If I want to restore the initial TWRP backup of OOS4.5.15, could I do this after installing LineageOS or is there something else that needs to be done first (as I can't just install Oreo without re-locking the bootloader etc).
4) Is my upgrade process correct, or have I missed something?
Many thanks!

From Oreo Rooted to Pie Rooted

Hi i've actually a S8 on Oreo base band G950FXXU4CRI1 it's rooted with TWRP installed and Magisk. I would like to upgrade to Pie especially for the Dark mode option. I would like to know what is the good process, actually my S8 do not propose any Update from the settings. Do i've to install it from TWRP ?
When rooting the device, you'll lose the OTA auto-update function. You'll need to flash a new ROM on TWRP.
It's pretty straightforward, the procedure us the same as with updating an installed ROM (however in this case it's a good idea to do a full wipe before flashing).
If you want full stock ROM, you can flash it with Odin.
OK thx so i can download my firmware from updato.com flash it after a wipe with TWRP and TWRP will stay on the device i'll just have to redo a root process after Pie upgrade, that's right ? And if i install with odin i'll lose TWRP am i right ?
Hello, I rooted my Galaxi S8 exilon with V-8.0.0./ Android Oreo whit odin v- 3.13 . want to upgrade to 9.0 Pie... someone knows how and where to do it?

Limitations/OTA updates after installing TWRP?

Hi,
I recently came up with the idea of installing the Stock Firmware on my S8, along with TWRP, but without root or anything like that.
Basically I just want Stock ROM + TWRP.
Will this limit the system in any way? Will banking apps still work, can I still get OTA updates, etc.?

Will this limit the system in any way? - Generally no but Knox related apps won't work like secure folder, shealth, samsung pass etc. Tripping your knox is permanent and can not be fixed.
Will banking apps still work - I can't say to many banks apps out there but i would say generally yes.
can I still get OTA update - No not with TWRP installed. You will have to manually update the device.
The problem with TWRP is it can't read encrypted devices. This is why you need to format data in TWRP to unencrypt your device. So backup your phone before formatting data.
