how to use the AUX port on the Android head unit?

Anybody knows how to use the AUX port to play music through the head unit?

Hi, I have the same doubt here. I bought a pure Android unit (still trying to find out which make and model is, as it's unbranded, with RK3188A chip, but not matching any MCU listed on the HuiFei wiki page), and I see that I can only use the dual zone for DVD while navigating (IGO) on the head unit. I mean, I have no PIP functionality (not a big issue), but the dual is not working as expected. I can only send video to rear monitors if it's played from the DVD. No USB, SD, BT, etc music or video files seem to be allowed to be sent through the AUX out port. And I'm only allowed to use navigation app while DVD is played on rear monitors... No radio, no USB, SD, etc video or audio files.
My previous unit is a WinCE supporting really well all this functions, but unfortunately due to a battery power loss, it only starts in recovery mode (expecting to load some firmware from SD card), and I cannot find any FW valid for it. And this pure Android is unable to do it, so I'm investigating to come up with a solution (it's the main reason I bought the pure Android unit).
Anyone knows any option? I think this could be done via software, but maybe I'm wrong.

you'll need a 3.5mm/2.5mm male to 2 RCA cable,connect this cable to your MP3 or someting and the AUX IN L and AUX IN R cables ,open the AV IN app on the head unit,then you can listen to the music through your head unit

So, you cannot play music from a friend's phone and use tomtom (or any app) in the meantime?
There is any possibility to have AUX-IN audio and any navigation app in the meantime?

You just bought the wrong device.
Nearly all units with DVD support only video/audio from this drive, nothing else.
All units without integrated DVD can play anything from anywhere, even from any USB-DVD.
From my understanding this cannot be changed...
May be possible by deactivating the DVD by pulling out the connection to the main board.... I don´t know, needs to be tested.

Where do you read that out of his posting? You always can send the AUX player to the background and can use navigation.
By the way... for what reason did you activate the donate button? Did you create any helpful software to ask for donation?

MY unit has AUX in but no AUX in app. Does anyone have the APK or one they recommend? MCTB running android 10.

I don't know if this applies to all firmware, but on some firmware, you either see the AUX or the Front Camera app icon. In the settings, when the front camera is activated, the AUX program icon changes to a front camera. If you deactivate the front camera then the AUX icon appears and I believe the sound source input is also made active in addition to the camera. On mine, the option is under Factory Settings and is named "Front View" on can be toggled on or off.
I have a TEyes SPro 4/64 which is an s9853i FYT unit. You should check the connection diagram for your head unit to see which pins/connectors are for AUX video and audio.

Interesting so I can't use my dash cam and AUX?

Not sure. Try it and see what happens. Maybe your unit is different.
If both your dash cam and AUX use the same inputs, then I would guess that it's not possible.
Best to try and maybe follow-up with your vendor/seller/manufacturer.

I have a similar problem. I m trying to install an reverse camera. I have connected the orange "reversing" wire but when I am in reverse I get a "no signal error". What's the difference between video in and cam in connectors. Do you know what the pin out of this connector is because the rca female cables are not installed and I m trying all possible combinations in order to connect the video in and grnd cables from the male rca. Android HU: Junsun DVD-9.0-AN Android 4.4.4 9.0 inch

I was considering this HU for my 2016 VW Polo since I don't care much about having a DVD slot. The title for this HU says DVD but it doesn't sport a drive. Though the spec seems good (RK3188) and the price isn't much either I didn't find any reviews or information about this HU on XDA (or outside).
There are couple of places this is being sold from Ali express to GearBest and also on their own website.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this one? Specifically I was looking for community support (root, custom firmware). Since this sports a RK3188 chip can other ROMs be used on this? Also the HU has a very thin form factor (compared to other HUs) - so would heat be an issue?

It doesn't have a volume control knob, if you can live with that. Personally, on screen adjustments for volume, track selection, "back," and on/off is very unhandy and annoying. You can't just reach up and adjust it with out looking. Also the volume steps of the touch controls are not always small enough to set a precise level. These units, with no US contacts or service, are a pain if you need something. Carjoying is in the US and quite responsive. Updates are also made.....who knows about those other relatively unknown products. They may never update and may no work with other software. I have never seen a 9" screen wonder if the thin bezel is just a half inch smaller and uncovering the edges of an 8" panel. This is just conjecture but perhaps worth considering.

Thanks for the response. I ended up placing an order for this unit instead. I dropped the other one mainly due to there being hardly any orders and reviews. I also did not get any proper responses from the sellers regarding that unit - probably since its new and they are themselves unaware of its features/fit. I agree about the support issues but I also had a tight budget and as long as it works fine :fingers-crossed: I should be OK. Importing these into India attracts a sizable customs duty The unit I bought costed me about $190 shipped via FedEx so I expect the customs would be proportionately lower.
Regarding the volume I have steering wheel controls which should serve the purpose of physical buttons. Though I agree that having a knob is more convenient I also kind of like the flush surface of these full touch units - lesser issues of dust settling.
I will post an update here once I get the unit and install it. BTW the reviews for this on AliExpress are excellent - would love to hear from anyone already owning this. I asked the seller about rooting and custom firmware (kind of essential for android units) but didn't hear anything positive This lack of support and the fact that this is an AllWinner solution (R16 QuadCore Cortex A7) were the only two drawbacks I saw in it (given its price).

How to root Junsun Android 4.4.4
I purchased this unit also from gearbest and like some things about it, but question other things.
The good:
1. The unit is ridiculously thin for a car stereo. There is no CD/DVD player
2. Sound is actually decent. Little difference from the stock unit
3. The home page with rotating icons is cool and different. I can also put a live wallpaper behind it
4. Mirroring app works ok, but I'd rather tether.
5. I can play videos and music on a USB flash drive
The bad:
1. I can't launch other apps and listen to music at the same time. (i.e. when I load Google Maps, radio stops)
2. No native capability to bluetooth tether. USB tethering with EasyTether also didn't work.
3. There are no microsd inputs like other Chinese Android units I've see thus far. I can connect a USB drive to 2 available connectors routed from the back of the unit. This isn't necessarily bad. Just requires different process for rooting that's TBD.
4. Instructions are only in chinese. Don't know who really makes this device, or how to get their technical support. So far, gearbest has provided some answers, but they're far from accurate!
So that said, I'd like to root and install some different apps and drivers that might make USB or bluetooth tethering possible. And that might allow me to listen to radio or USB music or Pandora while I have something else like Torque or Waze running.
Here are settings from the unit:
OS Version/Build Version: JAX1602191130G-WQ-16EN
MCU Version: 201512161416-SLX7786-GEN
CPU Model: RKPX3
Android: 4.4.4
There is also a 'system' page, where I can go to advanced, press 1234 as the password (found it through trial and error) . A screen is then available to upgrade MCU or firmware. However, I don't know where the files should be placed for this screen to register them.
Any pointers on process to root this and/or install something like Malaysk Firmware? Thanks!

This is really bad since it defeats the whole purpose of an Android-based HU. Are you using the stock music app or trying something you installed?

I think all these units restrict the bluetooth to the MCU and is generally not available to other apps. Though I am not sure how Torque works.

I think you mean micro-USB and not micro-SD? I too have the same issue with my unit. I don't know how to connect it to the PC.

This is a problem with most Chinese purchases - informed support is almost non-existent. However since you have an RK3188 based unit I think some of the support threads here may match your unit (at least partially). First try to get into the extra setting menu using the passwords given in the RK3188 threads and rooting as well. You need to find the thread that matches best to your unit/firmware based on trying out the various settings/tweaks. Don't flash anything till you are certain you are in the correct support thread. I am sure that this is some soft/firmware restriction. Android 4.4 has a native support of multitasking, so it should be by default in any of core versions of this OS. Main problem that I didn't find any resources where this issue was resolved.

From home screen touch Radio icon, then from Radio app touch home icon on top left, back to home, start app you want. Radio continues on my radio from CarJoying. Works fine;

This is really awful - how can they sell a "Android" HU with such limitation? You should give the seller an earful and a bad review for the unit so they are forced to fix it!

I have the same unit also , the camera doesn't show when I am in reverse mode , the steering wheel don't work with the radio, rkpx3 model

I bought this device.
The menu is exactly the same, firmware is the same: JAX1603281325G-WQ-16EN.
There's a microSD slot on the front panel.
MCU version: 201601251011-SLX7786-GEN .
Built-in player and radio can not work in the background, and this is the biggest trouble. There is not a full solution is to install third - party players who know how to work in the background, for example: BlackPlayer. But unfortunately, in third-party players do not switch tracks from the steering buttons. Adjust the volume and MUTE works as it should, because these buttons are programmed for the entire system. I liked that as a quick call navigation, you can assign any button on the steering wheel and choose any app.
The unit is decent, especially for the price. But such silly mistake with a built-in player and radio can wipe out all the pluses. Wrote to the seller, promised to talk to the engineer, perhaps

Is that a typo? There is NO microSD slot on this unit. You can connect a USB Flash Drive to the USB connections on the back of the unit though.

No. I have already found it when disassembled this HU. Its located on left edge of device. You can use it to flash ROM , or like normal SD... Now I working with stock firmware, trying to solve all issue mentioned in this thread. Its not so easy... bcz this MCU and firmware are not usual for this type of HU, and I didn't worked with this OS before ).

I noticed that the built-in player and radio do not have the manifest permissions to change the audio system settings ("modify audio settings"). Using APKEditor added this line to manifest, but to save, unfortunately, did not work, because I get the error message: the program is already installed and is missing a digital signature. If necessary I can put the modified and the original source code of the apk "music" and "radio"... Now are struggling with receiving the digital signature, the idea is APK Editor must sign the modified apk with the native signature. Apparently, there is some protection.

n the process of using the device revealed the following shortcomings (about the first two already written):
1. Not running in the background built-in music player . That is, when playing music you can't use Navigator. You have to use one or the other.
2. Not running in the background built-in radio programme. That is, while playing the radio you can't use Navigator. You have to use one or the other.
3. Not running in the background audioclub built-in bluetooth . That is, when playing music from phone via bluetooth you can't use Navigator. So you have to use one or the other.
4. After the completion of the incoming call via the bluetooth Protocol SOMETIMES falls off the sound of the entire device. Most likely, the audio service bluetooth does not give audio device. You have to reboot the head unit by switching off the ignition.
5. I really want the joystick on the steering wheel could switch tracks on ALL the audio players and not just on the built.
6. Lost sound player and radio when you lock the screen (press on the power button), which is very inconvenient at night, since I want to eyes did not detract.
7. It is unclear how sync contacts via bluetooth. Some appear, some don't.

I received from the seller working firmware, music is now able to work together with NAV. If anyone needs - let me know.

head unit audio with an amp, restricted volume? And how to get viper4...

Hi guys,
I've got a monoblock amp for my sub and a 4 channel amp for my front components and rear coax's, however i'm yet to put them in and the car is running factory, other than my seicane px3 7.1.2 head unit (seat ibiza). I've noticed that the volume isn't exactly loud, even at 30 (max) it doesn't really distort the speakers, whereas i'd expect it to, just like the factory radio did. I'm concerned there is some kind of limit to the sound, or the processing is poor perhaps, and wondering will this transfer to my amps giving me low volume sound? Another thing i've noticed is aux input via the AUX rca input, is even quiter still when compared to USB / bluetooth audio, any reason?
The single rca sub pre - out, do these work, along with the equalizer sub setting?
After doing some reading i'm wondering if the likes of viper4android or Arise apps would be a solution to remove and limits to sound, although i've found no info on rooting or if there is a custom rom for this unit, px3, rk30sdk. Is it easy to back up the standard settings/firmware in case of anything going wrong, or not so easy? The MCU version is 'MTCD_MX_V2.59_1'

damn it thats annoying.. so it's probably a common fault. My big concern is that its not hardware, but software so it'll just make the amp i hook up to it quiet also..
anyone able to shed light? is viper4audio a solution?

I also think it is software. Searched for volume mods but can't find them.

A2dp/Bluetooth works fine but I don't use it. No root yet and I didn't try a custom Rom.
I can still use the original radio and Bluetooth together with the Android system. Works great.

I have a PX3 with android 7.1.2 with an abnormally low volume, however, when using the DVD this volume increases a lot, it seems that the volume of android was limited by software.
I'm trying to increase this volume, but without success right now.

Read today in another post to set the original radio from normal to 'boost'. It significantly raised the volume from the headunit.

It's no mod. Read it in a forum about Mercedes radio's (Audio20). The headunit is on the AUX from the original radio so the 'boost' setting on the original radio increases the volume for AUX.

I am unable to find the post you are talking about. The procedure is to enter the factory options (126) and raise the AUX volume in the "voice" menu?

No, it's not in the Android headunit! In my car the original radio/system from Mercedes is still there. So, I have two systems connected. The Android headunit is for the sound connected with the AUX from the original radio. In there I can set the volume of AUX to 'boost'.

Pumpkin 8 Oreo Sound Quality help USB DAC??

Hi all. Id thought Id start another thread regarding the SQ of this device.
Iv always used Alpine Head Units for last 20 years but bit the bullet and bought this device to try and bring my ICE into the future a bit.
My system is HU - RCA's - C-DSP6x8 - RCA's - 3xJL amps - Focal Utopias (6w2/TN51)/2x JL ZR800's/1x JL 13W3
+ a shed load of experience with Room EQ wizard and at least 2 years of my life I won't get back!
In comparison I can say the SQ of the pumpkin sucks, also a bit of ground noise I never had before.
Will a USB DAC work with this unit?
Which one? I read a thread where someone used a USB to SPDIF converter board with Texas instruments chip on board, very simple which is good and cost less than a tenner from Amazon! then there's dragonfly dongles, then there's miniDSP's MiniDAC8. Price range between £10 & £200
Also I was always under the impression if you use a digital signal from your source unit you cannot control the volume from that source unit as bits and bytes cannot be attenuated so the volume control would be from the DSP(via the wired remote)
Can anyone suggest a tried and tested setup for getting a clean signal from this source to my DSP that wont break the bank, (Bit One out of the question) I think Iv spent enough on my system now as its probably worth more than my car! (B7 audi a4 3.0tdi)

from Lollipop there is dac native support on all devices, so it should work.
in joying headunit the radio and bluetooth not work with the dac, u can add small speaker for the bt, or connect another rca pair to the sound processor if the pumpkin also suffer this problem.
i recommend the hifimediy, be aware that spdif its digital connection so its really not important which dac u choose , the conversion from analog to digital will process on your c-dsp

There is ground noise on this units RCA outputs (to be expected on a device in this price range) once you rig up the bluetooth/radio via rca's anywhere into the chain that noise will be re-introduced. I'm not sure there's a way round this issue but its a minor one.

Not a problem since any DAC will have it own analogue volume control I can use the master volume (after DSP). Still if I connected BT/radio via RCA that volume would be controlled by the device. The model of my unit is AE0273B on autopumpkin. Does anyone know for sure that BT/radio/DAB wouldn't be routed through a USB DAC? Would be interesting to know why?
Should I be looking to root this so I can have Viper4Android installed or Neutron player? I just want to unlock the potential for quality audio out, I dont need to tweek the signal or colour it I would like the output flat but a good PEQ app would be helpful.
Using a multimeter and oscilloscope I swept a pure 0db sine wave through the Alpine and the AC voltage from the pre-out only deviated by about 0.01vac from 30hz upto 10k then it climbed a bit more. Done same thing on the Pumpkin and highest unclipped Vac is 1.2vac at 1khz, at 30hz it dropped to 0.5v and same with higher frequencies, just like a sad smile lol. I want a DAC with a flat frequency response and a 4volt pre-out.
The floor noise / ground noise was made worse because I had to increase input gain cos of the crappy pre-outs.
I could do with some help customizing this for quality audio so if anyone's in the same boat and wants to trade ideas Im open to test things on my device and help out where I can.
what apps & DAC's work for you? digital or analogue cabling? What DSPs? Anything regarding SQ is interesting to me

Aluver seems to be able to fix this issue.
The pumpkin is still a great bit of kit for the price and to be fair I used the buggy built in amplifier app to adjust the eq to a V shape, pulling down 1khz (in the middle)as the lowest point (-6db) and as no surprise I think this has cured the problem this HU caused with the SQ. At low volume my target curve in REW appeared the same its only at high volume when the pre-amp output deviations are at their most extreme (sad smile) which is why it sounded too harsh.
Im really not sure if I would be able to tell the difference from a 100% digital system with high quality DAC and my old alpine setup but it does solve a few problems.
Still have excessive ground noise and amp pop when ignition turned off (never had before) so not sure if Ill be keeping this unit, so maybe up for UK sale in near future!

Really interesting thread, are you planning to buy the DAC finally ? It would be interesting to try a DAC, just to get rid of the ground noise for example.
Seeing your setup, if the source has crappy output you will hear it right away so your EQ modification is quite surprising that it improves the quality that much ! I'm still thinking about pulling the trigger on a model similar as you but very afraid of sound quality. Still trying to decide between Joying Intel or Xtrons PX5

Im going to give it a bit more time to see if I can get it to behave. Iv has this set up with the alpine for a couple of years and am always tweaking / improving so Im very aware of any change. If it hurts your ears at high volume then somethings wrong. The alpine's FR was completely flat and clips just over 2v, the pumpkin clips at different voltages (max 1.3v) but on this unit anything above vol 20 with pure tones will clip, its just a pain in the ass but if you always eq your car with high volume in mind for me that's where it matters. Dont rely on tone generator apps their 0db is not accurate I burnt the test wave files from JL audio website to CD as a reference then match it with Room EQs generator so can sweep any frequency.
Yeah Im gonna look for a DAC would be nice if you could control the DACs volume from steering wheel! And the auto switching rca's it doable or might as well go digital to dsp not sure yet its all a bit of a headache lol, but the units capabilities makes it worth trying. I will post any solutions on here if I find them but may be some time.
Im still trying to work out what this unit gives me that an alpine ilx-f903 (or similar) won't, apart from alot of spare change!
Im sure Iv read pros and cons for either them units but don't know enough about whats inside. I know mines a px5. I would be looking for something that can output everything through USB but not sure it exists.

ordered a minidsp usb streamer from amazon £60 delivered +van damme digi cable. First step see what it does out of the box then install 'USB Audio Driver Pro' app which will bypass the native android drivers??
I think this requires usb debugging mode to be enabled in developer options.

Well as promised I will update this thread with my progress to get my system setup with the pumpkin.
I got my mini streamer but digi cable not arrived yet.
So I enabled developer options which was easy but couldn't find the menu anywhere afterwards, eventually downloaded an app call 'developer options' which does what is says on the tin. I found usb debugging mode was already on then went to 'usb configuration' and set to 'Audio'. Plugged in my ministream and was expecting the audio from spotify to go quiet as is should now be trying to route through the streamer but it didn't appear to change anything. I get a feeling when I eventually get the cable and connect to the dsp I will still have nothing. Anyone know what else I need to do to make audio goes through USB? ASIO drivers?
As I said Iv no experience with android OS but Im learning more and more things, so happy days!

The problem is the software and hardware combination needs modifications (software) to generally work. We have this working on the joying Intel, and hopefully soon on the joying px5 (FYT based) units. Nother brands might not be possible depending on the original manufacturers programming.
If other users with your unit, maybe they have experience. Generally only working on the joying with Xposed properly.

I see. I read a post where 'Aluver' says he got usb output working on app media and usb fobs but not on BT/radio/DAB (which went throught the MCU instead of DAC?) so assumed it was doable with a few changes to audio policy. Thinking about it not sure if the thread was referring to my HW/SW. Ill read the thread again but got lost in the jargen which I half understand.
So it looks like I'm just gonna have to wait till someone works out a fix.
So PX5 is the hardware and Oreo the software. Whats FYT based? Can this unit be rooted easily yet?

Are there any car android devices out there, chinese or otherwise, that allow for routing ALL audio digitally?

FYT is the OEM manufacturer for the system on module (SoM) that powers certain head units (that contains the CPU and memory etc)
Px5 is the CPU made by rockchips.

Whats the model of Joying intel you have working? I assume there is still the problem of bluetooth / voice & radio still not being routed through USB on this as well?
I connected my XP laptop to the ministreamer then to DSP (with vanne dam spdif coax) and played some flac files and it sounds great, noise floor is zero! Shame I cant find a device other than my phone to output a dam digital signal for everything!:crying:!
PS: Android 8 Oreo + all extras for sale... £200 anyone?? (comes with dabonwheels DAB external whip aerial, original in dustbin) Will drop in a B6 / B7 Audi A4 like factory does.

I have the joying Intel that fits into the b7 a4 as well. On their site, and yeah no radio or Bluetooth yet via dsp.

Oh too bad you can't even get the spotify output on the dac? Did you try another dac like hifimediy using optical cable?

Thanks for the info gtx.. You know a hell of a lot more than me on these things. If you could suggest a head unit thats a safe bet for what Im trying to do Id appreciate any links / model numbers. I bet there's more than one joying intel out there and dont want to make the same mistake twice

Bypassing audio EQ / DSP in android head unit

Hello everyone, I’m and audio engineer and not a developer, but I thought you guys might be able to help me with something.
This is posted in Q&A but now I'm realizing I should have posted here. I've been searching the forum and can't find an answer, so I figured I'd ask you guys.
I purchased a android unit for my car (2016 Range Rover), it uses the cars factory audio system, it can mirror the stock screen to the new android screen (for access to settings and cameras), and it feeds its audio output to the Aux input of the car or Bluetooth from the android to the cars factory Bluetooth.
Everything functions beautifully, however the sound quality is terrible. There is a “DSP” screen in their GUI, when adjusting any of the parameters I can tell the DSP / EQ is possibly the cause of the issue. It sounds like its filtering off everything below 50-60hz and the audio is compressed. Whenever adjusting EQ in the Android GUI that compression sound gets worse, leading me to suspect it might be the cause of the issue.
I downloaded an app that shows hidden apps and found “MagicEQ” installed, I disabled it but the audio continues to sound the same.
I’m wanting to disable any processing of the audio and simply send an unmodified audio signal out of the android via it’s analog output and/or it’s Bluetooth connection.
My questions are:
-Is there anywhere else I can look to see if there are any other hidden EQ settings?
-any tips on how to find any other apps or processes that could be tampering with the audio signal?
-are there any apps that could be installed that would override any audio processing that’s currently happening?

I think you already checked power and ground of the speaker?
I fear you just bought one of those cheap units. The picture you show is just some sort of EQ, that has nothing to do with a DSP and the built in sound chip is just not able to provide signals below 60hz.
Just show us the specs of this unit, incl MCU and used firmware. Otherwise no one is able to dive in deeper.

The speaker and amplification is all being done from the stock car system, this android unit just sends out a line level signal into the Auxilary port of the car or Bluetooth to the car. It’s basically an android tablet except that it also mirrors the factory car screen.
This is all I could find for specs. Does this help at all?
Unfortunately it wasn’t cheap either at $1100 USD, I’m aware that doesn’t mean it’s not made cheap though.
As someone who manipulates audio for a living, I really do think it’s that EQ that might be causing the issues.
Each process in audio tends to have a unique characteristic to the sound, and when I adjust any of those parameters I hear those same artifacts exaggerated.
I don’t know much about android systems though, so I’m wondering if there a way to “look under the hood” and see if it’s possible to take that EQ out of the processing path of the audio signal.

First off the Android should be coupled to the car by toshlink ie the C port in the digital realm unless it's a amp only with no preamp processing.
Bluetooth will degrade the audio if it's SBC or LDAC.
Files should .wav, HDCD or higher in resolution.

At least your complete system is no common one.
First of all you would need to get it rooted, to have a chance to get deeper into the system.
As I never have seen this system combination with this MCU and You even don´t find anything about it in here, there is a very low chance that you get help with rooting... sorry to say.

For this particular vehicle (2016 Range Rover sport) the only systems I’ve been able to find feed audio via Aux or Bluetooth into the OEM system.

Yeah, I’m not surprised unfortunately. Thank you for looking into that more though!

Is your grounding correct? All devices, head and amp should be grounded to a common point with heavy gauge wire. No daisy stringing.
V+ should be heavy gauge coming off the battery if possible. Running a dedicated circuit for ground and V+ off the battery as a twisted pair is a good option.

Ok so I have confirmed it's some hidden EQ or processing that's happening in the unit and not a problem with the chipset.
II installed an app called poweramp EQ that when enabled I bypasses the hidden EQ / audio processing and sounds instantly like it should (poweamp EQ is flat). The problem is it takes a while to boot, and you have to play audio from only a few specific apps, then the EQ is bypass across all apps. So I need to figure out how to find and remove that hidden EQ.
The Chinese supplier sent me all of the installers they use, is that something that could be opened and modified?

I would just use Poweramp as the player especially in a car. It's graphic equalizer is excellent. Very low distortion. That all I use to play my 240gb collection of .wav albums on my N10+. Zero issues or complaints... simply the best for music.

I don't want to just play files though, I want to use the unit with CarPlay, Tidal, Dropbox, etc.
It's frustrating because this system would do everything I need it to do if I could just remove that damn EQ they have hidden in there.

You just got the latest greatest MCU and this zip file is the newest firmware.
There is nothing you can modify at least not if you are no developer and are able to create a new firmware afterwards.
Use the manual the supplier sent and get your unit updated. May be that changes something, who knows... Be aware, that your unit might be reset during update.

Yeah that makes sense, The supplier of course didn't not supply a manual to update, just sent those files.
As far as modifying, is that something an outside developer could do? If so, I wouldn't mind hiring someone to do it.
As a profesional Audio engineer, I really want to utilize the amazing sound system in the Range Rover, something we can listen to what we're working on during lunch breaks or show colleagues what we've been working on in the studio when out on the town.
Unfortunately, this was the best system I could find for my specific vehicle.

A very large personal music library of high res albums/songs is the way to go. Poweramp plays whole albums or create extensive playlists that can be completely backed up along with settings. Coming from the days of 8tracks and cassettes... you have no clue how lucky you are, at least in this regard.

As a professional mastering engineer, I'm aware of the benefits of hires files, but unfortunately that's not what I'm looking for with this system.

The MCU.zip needs to get unpacked and the content of this zip needs to get stored on a fresh formatted SD card (FAT32) If you have, use the smallest SD card you have. I prefer to use a 8GB SD card which I only use for updates.
Put it into the unit and the system should recognize the new MCU file and asks for set up.
This is the first step. If you get new MCU and firmware, always install the MCU first.
After reboot is done, you should format the SD card again (just for being safe) on you laptop/pc, what ever which is able to format FAT32 cards.
Most probably the firmware file needs to get renamed as update.zip.
Don´t unpack that zip file, just rename it and copy it onto this fresh formatted SD card.
Stick it into the unit and you may or may not get a notification that an update has been found. Choose install.
Note: All personal apps, files and folders are deleted most probably. Before you do anything, make sure you have all data stored externally. All partitions of the unit are updated as far as I could see in the firmware.
Have fun and report back if that was successful. If not, the naming of the firmware seems to be different. You need to ask the seller in this case.

In this case... Wait for any update.
BTW: It´s always tricky to get an OEM sound system working flawlessly with any aftermarket radio. You need to know that the OEM radio and the sound system are built to work perfect together.
I don´t think that you would be able to remove the integrated EQ.
BTW: To enable any external DEV to build a new firmware means, that he needs also exactly the same headunit for testing any changes or adaptations. It´s unfortunately not done with providing the firmware.
FThe firmware of the unit is just some sort of "messenger" for the MCU, so the radio itself. The Android is more or less just set on to provide the UI, and the handling of the main board itself. The EQ is not on Android, it´s on the mainboard itself.
The combination you are running is really error prone because of the mix.
Don´t expect too much I fear.

Hello, did the supplier ever send you an updated firmware and MCU that addresses the issue? I have the same head unit as you and I would really like to disable/get rid of the built-in SW EQ so that the full dynamic range of the sound goes out to the Meridian Amp. If you've found a way of disabling/removing the SW EQ without having to do a firmware update, please do share as well.

What is the app that shows you hidden apps?

Hello everyone, I’m and audio engineer and not a developer, but I thought you guys might be able to help me with something.
This is posted in Q&A but now I'm realizing I should have posted here. I've been searching the forum and can't find an answer, so I figured I'd ask you guys.
I purchased a android unit for my car (2016 Range Rover), it uses the cars factory audio system, it can mirror the stock screen to the new android screen (for access to settings and cameras), and it feeds its audio output to the Aux input of the car or Bluetooth from the android to the cars factory Bluetooth.
Everything functions beautifully, however the sound quality is terrible. There is a “DSP” screen in their GUI, when adjusting any of the parameters I can tell the DSP / EQ is possibly the cause of the issue. It sounds like its filtering off everything below 50-60hz and the audio is compressed. Whenever adjusting EQ in the Android GUI that compression sound gets worse, leading me to suspect it might be the cause of the issue.
I downloaded an app that shows hidden apps and found “MagicEQ” installed, I disabled it but the audio continues to sound the same.
I’m wanting to disable any processing of the audio and simply send an unmodified audio signal out of the android via it’s analog output and/or it’s Bluetooth connection.
My questions are:
-Is there anywhere else I can look to see if there are any other hidden EQ settings?
-any tips on how to find any other apps or processes that could be tampering with the audio signal?
-are there any apps that could be installed that would override any audio processing that’s currently happening?
