Try taking a screenshot using the phone's software. If it shows up in the screenshot I'd say software. My guess is hardware.
Its not showing up on screen shot!!
That stinks, but now you know.
Thank you
Sorted it's the digitizer it was dusty thanx xda

I'm hoping you guys can help. I have searched and cannot find reference to this problem, but I cant believe I'm the only one... I have the HTC Wizard in the O2 XDA mini s form.
Whenever I slide out the keyboard to write a text, within a second or so the screen freezes. I can continue pressing typing but nothing on the screen changes. If I press the screen off button to turn just the screen off, then back again, I can see the newly typed text, and then it freezes again straight away.
Is anyone else suffering with this problem please?
Has anyone solved it?
Thanks for you help.
Dave
Well, sounds like the keyboard inputs are getting there (a good thing), perhaps something is running in the background eating up resources not allowing the display to update. What’s in your “windows/startup” folder? Also, what today plugins are you running? Have you burnt a new ROM or are you running the original?
Hi, thanks for the reply. Im still running the original ROM. I don't think its a background task issue. The screen freezes and distorts (lighter coloured lines across the screen.) Im pretty sure its not just a refresh issue.
I guess I just assumed something like this must be a common problem, that others have had and solved.
Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem and I really dont know what to do. Its happening on every ROM I install, even if I revert back to the original ROM. I have a feeling its my SD card, but I cant tell which folder specifically.
Maybe bad flex-cable could cause that kind of problem.
Yeh, same here.. I think its about the flex cable also. It stopped on my case for a while when i dissassembled the wiz and cleaned it up... but it continues now propably would help if got new flexi cable, or could it come when phone gets cold? its pretty freezy in finland sometimes sry about bad language.
hi everyone! I've got problem with my screen sad.gif when i flashed my phone with new secany rom JA5 my right side of display is cut! i can see everything without a problem, but it makes me crazy! the screen is cut about 2mm? if u dont understan me i mean i have smaller space on screen on the right side, its like the width is 478x800 instead of 480x800, or something like that, i hope u will understand me tongue.gif this problem is only on the right side, its very irritating because i see black free space. i was doing hard reset, again flashing, and nothing help, once i had uninstalled some taskbar icons and then everything was ok, back to normal but after that i was playing with samsung today and its back again! sorry for this hard explenation but i dont know how to explain this easier tongue.gif i hope som1 will understand me and help me! thank u!
Did you try to take a screen shot with an app?
Check if this missing pixels appear on the JPG generated by the sshot app.
hi! first id like to thank u for answer me! and i took a screenshot and on JPG i see the normal screen, i dont see this missing pixels
So, I guess that you have a hardware issue. Do you have warranty?
Also, you can try to flash the original rom.
BTW, which parts did you flashed? It's known to be safe to flash only the PDA part.
i thought at first time too i have hardware issue, but i've done something, i uninstalled some custom taskbar icons, and screen back to normal, then i flashed secany's JA5 rom and this s*** back to me! i flashed original and custom roms, and nothing helped, was doing hard reset and without change ;/. i flashed always all the parts, csc, eboot, pda and bin and always everything was ok! just now i dont know why it happen

Hey guys... weird issue here and have no idea how to fix it. Haven't been around the rooting scene for quite some time, so hoping this is an easy fix. I have a D801 4.4.2 from tmobile that I rooted with towelroot and then installed TWRP with autorec. After I did this, I started getting a distorted screen issue. The issue only occurs once I turn my screen back on after it times out. The screen turns multiple colors, with lines running through it. It's an overlay type of screen because you can faintly see the actual screen underneath, and well as having the screen still function. Tried to do research, but couldn't find anything. I attached a video of the issue. Thanks in advance!

Got it sorted out with your help... thank you very much!
Hi guys
Something else that may be relevant is....
That it will always boot the LG logo so what ever is going wrong kicks in just after the LG logo
Even when the screen is completely dead i can get the lg logo up by holding the power button.
..
I've the same issue...
Hello Inked
I've exactly the same freezing on my D802 for more than one month now... And I have no idea what's happening too...
I brought it to a phone shop, he told me it's certainly a motherboard issue, he can repair it for 250€!... Way too expensive for me!
So, I decided to find a motherboard by myself and I don't find... I'm trying at this point to find the same phone with a broken screen to mix components.
It's a D802 32GB and it's quite rare in Europe unfortunatly.
So if someone has an idea how to fix this I'm at your disposal! And I can imagine it's the same for Inked.
I will try to post a video of the freezing problem tomorrow.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56259958&postcount=18. Read the guide to fix your phone
Are you sure it's the same issue?
Here is a video I've made of what's happening, the phone is not rooted (never been), flashed with rom stock EUROPE OPEN 20D, and hard reset:

I think touch screen is working because (it's not clear in the video) you can use the phone "normally" but the image stay frozen.
What do you guys think?

Thanks for all the replies Winking smile
I've tried using your link but when i try and click the “1. click here to view picture” link i just get a 404 error.
Having said that, its not that the screen has dead spots, the screen freezes and just looks like a screen shot until you turn the screen off for a few second and then turn it back on.

Thanks for that...
But as atchoop says the screen is freezing as if you have taken a screenshot and doesn't start working again unless you turn the screen off for a few seconds.
A bit of an update......
I got the same effect as yours during few weeks then it comes back as my video shows because (I think...) I didn't use the phone for a while.
But I still don't know if it's mainboard or screen...
