Hi,
I flash ROMs quite regularly but only the one's that seem stable to be used as daily drivers.. i'm not really in to experimenting etc. I've never had a problem with this and it all seems fairly straight forward,. However, one area that always concerned me was the modem.. I've fell foul on a couple of occasions where I've lost 3g/wifi etc and I just end up doing a restore of my nandriod backup i.e. the one i do right before any new flash.
Now I notice a few S5 flavoured ROM's which don't seem to include the modem and require it to be flashed seperately. I was wondering if it's possible to just make a backup of my existing (working) modem in isolation and reflash that when necessary. Is it that simple, or does the modem and rom somehow have a special relationship.. meaning flashing my current working modem isn't an option ?
Also, is there any apps that would do this for me - just back up the modem ?
FYI.. I'm currently using latest Google Play Edition by @Danvdh but tempted to give some of the S5 roms a go.
any info appreciated. cheers

Make a backup of your current rom incase you need a backup to return to ? I haven't changed modems at all since flashing (still mk9) & haven't had any problems ? That's just my input & I'm sure people will say I must have problems ie wifi or calls but no problem here
If you feel the need to upgrade your modem just d/l the modem you have now from samobile as a precaution then you can flash it again if you need it ?

I always back up my ROM before flashing.. but as I mentioned, the newer S5 based ROMs don;t include the modem so I want to know if there's a way I can backup my current modem (just the modem & nothing else), then I would just reflash that rather than having to hunt down a modem which may or may not work for me

Not that I'm aware of
With the approach of the Gear VR, and more users interested in LDUs for use with it, I'm going to create an info and file repo regarding flashing and prepping them for use. A current problem aside from the sparse and disorganized information is the lack of files available. I'd like any help I can get in recovering these odin files for the SM-G920X. I know of a couple of sites that have them, but they are behind strict foreign pay-walls. I will mirror these files online and offline once they're found
Starting with the most important, we need -

PIT file for 4gb hidden partition for easier flashing and true stock.

I dont understand the reason to hunt g920x packages, when with a little modification you can easly flash g920f on LDU

Well, from a completion perspective, we compile all the packages for all variants, although some have little to no changes between them, so it makes sense to include one of the "strangest" variants out there.
But in particular what we gain from this is that LDUs cannot easily update their bootloader without g920x packages, and as such we only get iffy support on 5.1.1 roms if we started on 5.0.2 and never got it to update before flashing to g920f roms.

Unfortunately the odin files will be the most helpful element we can get, but if you have TWRP installed you could make a nand backup after a fresh wipe of the demo unit rom so that we can have it handy for testing.

Bricked Galaxy S6 SM-G920X
Hi everyone i'm from poland so sorry for my english, yesterday i bought my Galaxy S6 LDU, but i can't turn the phone on. I Can only go into download mode, and when i try to install any rom in odin there is command : "there is no pit partition" and operation is failed.. Can anyone send me The PIT file for SM-G920X?
Hi all,
I'm wanting to upgrade my modem, though need some assistance.
I'm on an Australian purchased Samsung Galaxy S5 - modem sm-g900i.
My current baseband/modem is G900IDVU1CPL1.
My understanding is that there are 2 ways to upgrade a modem
1 by flashing an entire firmware - so as my phone is unbranded, I'd have to do something like factory wipe
and flash the latest samsung firmware at
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s5/SM-G900I/XSA/ then re-factory wipe and install my lineageos.
Or
2 by obtaining the actual modem files and flashing them manually.
- If I was able to obtain these modem files - would I be able to flash them manually within my TWRP bootloader?
- If I am able to flash the modem from TWRP can I back my existing one first and restore it quite easily if this fails?
The reason for wanting to flash my modem is to see whether it makes an impact on battery and performance.
As I'm currently using Lineage OS I'd prefer to use option 2 if this is possible.
I also don't have a PC at home with ODIN (as I have a mac here) therefore I'm hoping to avoid an answer that refers me to Odin (though can get my hand on one if necessary).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Just hoping to bump this one. I'm hoping I've typed it in the correct forum.
Just want to know whether and how I can update my modem on my Samsung S5 within twrp.
Thanks.

get anywhere with this ?
I don't see much rooting about the i9506, more about ROMs. I am on Android 5.0.1. I'd like to root my phone and move to a newer Android. Can I get some guidance on that? So far I downloaded CF-Root from mobi.firmware. Is that the best way to go?
What version of TWRP should I look for?
Also, regarding ODIN, is it specific to the OS version or can I always just use the latest when changing ROMs?
I am new to i9500..I have lollipop on it. I was wondering what would be the recommended nougat custom ROM for this phone?
Also, I've seen terms like 8pit, 11pit being thrown around some threads. What are those?
Users have different needs so it would be best to try different custom ROMs that have features you want.
Are your referring to pit files? These are files that are sometimes used when flashing a stock ROM and Odin can't detect the phone partition information.
