Hi All,
Last night I got a popup on my S II saying there was a firmware update for the camera in the Samsung Apps store.
I installed it. Took a couple of minutes. Seems much quicker now for focus and taking photo's.
I am running KE2.
Anyone else get this?
B
Yep, this was mentioned by some posters a while ago. Only specific camera versions receive this upgrade, so most users probably haven't gotten any camera update (myself included).
updates are region, version, and carrier dependant. And thats alot of dependancies. So my advice is, patience can make your phone the dream phone you want it to be
As I wrote earlier, people with unlocked, non-branded Smartphones (like me) won't all get the update because it is only targeted at phones that come with a certain version of the camera firmware preinstalled - it is not suitable for every Galaxy S II and shouldn't be, people not getting the update are not "missing out".
I'm a bit stuck here, hoping someone can help. I should point out I've also searched the forums, but am struggling to get anywhere because the main search terms (US and UK) are too short. I saw someone else ask something similar earlier as part of another thread, bt now I can't retrace my steps to check if he got an answer.
Anyway, he goes - maybe someone can help. I'm in London, and bought my Transformer here, but it appears to be a US one - the build number is HMJ37.US_epad-8.4.11-20110711. Firstly, am I right in thinking I've somehow ended up with a US one?
the main crux is that I've been waiting for the update to 3.2, but it hasn't come through yet. It didn't come through when the US version got released, and it hasn't come through yet now that the UK version has been released and, if I DO have a US model, that's not going to make a difference anyway.
I've tried download the couple of stock .zip files people have put on here, but I always get the error message at bootup, so they haven't worked. I'm on 3.1 atm, but frankly I can't remember how I got the upgrade from 3.0 - 3.1, so I'm no use there I've also tried going into settings and checking for an update, but that hasn't helped.
Any thoughts?
Hey,
im in the UK as well, and got the tablet 2 days ago with 3.0. I got home, connected to wifi and it straight away noted me about the 3.1, and updated it. No other update came through, so I think it's just not yet out in the UK.
I would just wait a bit in your case!
I don't really have much choice but to wait, I suppose
Cheers for the response. See you're in belfast - I'm from there originally.
I believe Asus staggers firmware releases out - at least my last update was a few days after many of the other UK people had received theirs. This one however I got on the day.
I have been waiting a while to post this because posts like this always get killed, but for a phone with a factory-available bootloader unlock, I am surprised we don't have a modded stock ROM to try out yet. TruPure on the Moto x Pure was awesome, although it altered very little. I know CM is being worked on but given some of the responses in that thread, it could be quite a while.
So aside from that observation, is anyone actively working on something like that and if so, can you post here and let us know how things are coming along? I know we all would be appreciative of the effort.
They're waiting on a full image of the ROM to be released, with all the img, radio, ect.. and other files needed to make it work. Once that drops form ZTE, it's on like some 80s video game reference.

Noob question: Cannot these be taken from images that were extracted from the phone already? Does rom provide that much more?
This is a genuine question, isn't rom just a packed and zipped version of what is on the phone?

I was pretty sure that once we got root and bootloader access that this could be done just as you said here. No need for drivers or proprietary anything...although the camera API will be a problem, but I think it's possible right now. I was just wondering why no one has the desire to attempt it. Did the weird release and shipping debacle for the grey phones really make everyone avoid the phone and hamper dev this much? Sort of disappointing if that is the case.

This worries me as well. It appears that there is only one person actively working on a custom ROM. Although things can pick up later, this does not bode well for the future.

My thoughts are differently, base on the many issues people are running when trying to get back to stock and the fact they there's 2 B20 versions around (B20 Stock & B20_boot) make things a Little harder to do, like for sample,
I have the B20_boot version and as you can see I uploaded a backup with Xposed debloated and Rooted (I can consider that backup/ Custom ROM) but stock B20 can't use that backup as far as I know... I can easily release a flash able zip base on my backup but (Xposed,Debloated, rooted) but I bet only 5% of the user are using b20_boot.
So till find a way or just way till ZTE release a firmware image we are going to be little stuck with just CM which is getting more stable every day/week

First, the Moto X Pure was widely available. It was not shipped out in smaller batches once a month. When it was released, it was available for everyone to purchase. For the Axon 7, the first batch and second small batches of phones sold out during pre-order, and the third batch hasn't even shipped yet. (and it hasn't received a wide release in Europe yet either, think they just had one small batch)
Also, the Moto X Pure had bootloader unlock available at launch. The Axon 7 did not get a bootloader unlock method until August 11th, less than a month ago. (and at this time, there is no bootloader unlock for the European or Chinese models, just the North American model)
And just as a reminder, the Moto X Pure launched in early September. Dev for CM12.1 started in late September. The first custom ROM, an alpha of CM12.1, was released a month later, in the beginning of October.
Hello all. I am just wondering what my first steps should be. I am coming from an lg g5 that I hated because it was 100 percent locked down. But before that I had an HTC one m8 so I kind of know what I am doing. I just want to know what my first steps should be. I want root, debloat, and nougat if possible.
Thanks
You're in for an unpleasant surprise.
A.) Root sucks on this phone, it causes slowdown and tons of issues due to the root method using a shotty and early engineering kernel.
B.) No Nougat unless you wanna run the beta. Which can't be rooted at all. (An official beta from Samsung that has a few issues and was canceled after only the second build due to Verizons stubborness.)
C.) For everything else you asked for LOOK ON THE FORUMS. There are literally guides on this forum for a reason if you kind of knew what you were doing that would be step #1.
BTW I only typed A and B because I wanted to be the bearer of bad news. Yes, I'm evil like that.

is it worth it running the beta?

Some people claimed it had better battery life and performance, I personally saw neither. And I also had issues with certain apps I use, including glitching and slowdown. However a good amount of people really like the beta (more than the number of people who reported issues like me), so I would tell you to try it out.
I personally use the G935U firmware on my phone. It is basically the same the ROM that is preinstalled on the unlocked version of the phone, meaning it has absolutely no bloatware, it runs smoother, has better battery life, and is slightly different in some ways because Verizon modifies our phones so much from what comes on the unlocked variant.(confirmed by everyone). And of course since it is the official firmware from the unlocked version it can be installed without rooting.
Again this is from my personal experience, so I am probably being pretty biased. This is just what I've had most luck with, I encourage you to try whatever you want on your phone and stick with what works best.
Additional guides you might want.
Link to the Beta Firmware and instructions on how to install it.
Link to how to install the U firmware on your phone.
Link to the latest U firmware. (The firmware in the above thread is old, the guide is still the same with the new firmware.)
Let me just say this first, i'm not an idiot and i've done firmware flashing, rooting, etc plenty of times on my old phone before.
I have, as well, spent extensive time researching but came up with mixed results since it seems like this issue is different depending on a number of factors.
Anyhow, s4 broke so i needed a new phone and found a sweet deal on ebay, Huawei p9 lite for 95€, literally nothing better you could get for that price. Its only a couple months old, no scratches, nothing.
There was only one problem.
The camera app doesn't work, whether through the app itself or other apps such as whatsapp, that's why the guy reduced the price so heavily.
Anywho first thing i thought of is "software problem", i'm no expert but it seemed to me that it's a software issue and not a hardware one, and software issuesn are relatively easily fixed.
Another thing to notice is that he bought the phone online and it came in a G9 box.
Google tells me it's a Chinese model.
Oh yeah and the camera app did work, but then he updated the phone and it stopped working.
Anyway i know WHAT to do, flash mm and stay there or update to nougat.
But i don't know how, well i do but every guide seemed a little different and i do not want to risk my phone at all.
I require help in the way of you guys either telling me what to do, or giving me a link to a guide that is suited to my case model number and all.
So here's the relevant info.
Tl;dr:
Help me reflash firmware to get rid of test keys
Model: Huawei VNS-21
Build: NRD90M test-keys
Emui: 5.0
Android: 7.0
Oh yeah when i scroll down in the options and click on certificate i get this illuminati looking triangle with the words "serbia" under it whatever that means, thought that might be important info.
