I'm not sure whether I am doing something wrong, or if the phone is softbricked beyond recovery.
This is a Sprint phone. Phone shows the "Samsung Galaxy S4" logo, but will not boot up.
Most of the time it will not enter hard recovery mode (Volume Up + Power + Home), although it has at least once since the issue began. However, performing a wipe date/factory reset did not resolve the issue.
It will enter Download Mode (Volume Down + Power).
I flashed the stock rom (found here: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=890129502657577654 ) using Odin 3.09, and got the "Pass" message. However, afterward, the phone would still hang on the "Samsung Galaxy S4" logo.
Next I attempted flashing the pit file for the SPH-L720 (found on this page: https://www.full-repair-firmware.com/p/galaxy-s4.html ) along with the stock rom and got a "Fail" message. Screenshot attached.
Any advice is appreciated.
I just tried flashing the rom alone with Odin 3.12 and got a "Pass". However, all I am getting is the "Samsung Galaxy S4" logo when I press the Power button.
Fyi for anyone else experiencing this issue. I got the rom to install by putting the phone in the freezer for thirty minutes before attempting to flash with Odin. This phone has tended to run hot since I had to replace the digitizer.

Galaxy S4 on Koodo/Canada gets stuck at "Samsung Galaxy S 4" logo, regular boot and recovery boot get stuck. when I do the "Vol Down, Home, Power" boot to get to the firmware upgrade screen it can work in this mode. Samsung Kies firmware upgrade and installation does not fix this issues.
does anyone have a fix for this?

This a really good guide to follow... saved my bacon (and my phone).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
now i have done this about 10 times before I posted, this phone is the SGH-I337M version not the I9500... after doing this all and Odin shows Pass! and the phone reboots it still locks up on first boot after running Odin
Hi guys first i want you to know that my english is bad...
My phone is G900K - SpaceX Rom 5.0
I am using SpaceX Rom 5.0 for weeks and it is buggy, i experience random boot, app crash, fast battery drain and freezes.
Yesterday i reboot my phone and after "Android is Starting" i got message that System Crash or System UI i am not sure what it is but it has System word in error report. Then my phone didn't start so i remove the battery and put it again. After pressing on the Power on Button my S5 starts and i notice the Blue Light in Upper Left didn't Light Up and my phone didn't boot to 2nd Samsung Logo. When i press Power On Button my S5 will turn on and 1st Samsung Logo will appear then It will Turn Off then Vibrates then goes back to 1st Samsung Logo it keeps repeating. Also i try Recovery Mode but i can't enter to it my phone will repeat the same process as i Turn On my phone. I can go to Download Mode, And i flash Stock Rom and after flashing Stock Rom there's a blue text in upper left Recovery Booting... but its not booting into recovery, It will just turn off again then vibrates then goes to 1st Samsung Logo.
If anyone experiencing the situation right now you can comment
Same issue here. My phone is stuck at RECOVERY BOOTING. Is there anyone who can fix this issue? Thanks.
Boot to download mode (Vol down & Home & Power)
Flash stock ROM from sammobile .com with ODIN
Instructions under the download on their site
Go into download mode and do a firmware upgrade and initialisation through kies3. You will need your serial number and model number( on the white sticker behind the battery. in kies3 go tools> firmware upgrade and initialisation, then follow the on screen steps. I used this when I soft bricked my note 2 when I had it, I personally find it's the best way to restore a samsung device.
You should try first with kies3, it did help me to recover from custom ROM installation.
If it fails, flash stock with Odin3 from phone download mode is your last option.
I'm having the exact same issue! Been trying to flash the stockfirmware, but still stuck in recovery booting loop! Even trying to get into recovery mode has it looping. Kiess 3 says that my serial number is invalid, so matter which number I put in too. Hoping for some help!

Mine is the SM-G900W8 with Telus, so if we have the same model, I could probably give you my serial number cause I never had issues with mine. I know I have read places that sometime when people get stuck in recovery like that, they do a factory wipe and cache wipe in the stock recovery to get it to boot.
This same thing is happening with my s5 Verizon.. Need help to fix this i've tried flashing via odin, factory reseting..nothing worked
Can anybody help me please....thanks
Galaxy S4 Won't Boot
I've been unable to boot my phone past the "Samsung Galaxy S4" screen for the past few days. When I was using it a few days ago, it suddenly froze and then it got stuck on the logo-screen ever since. The phone was not rooted or modified in any way.The phone's warranty expired a few months ago, so I can't ship it to Samsung without paying ~$100. I suspect that the phone is soft-bricked, but I've been unable to un-brick it.
It's a Fido Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M.
Things that I've tried:
Flick, wiggle, and hit the power button to potentially dislodge a stuck power button
Flashing the stock firmware (I tried this several times)
Selecting "Firmware update and initialization" on Kies
I attempted to boot into recovery mode to clear the cache, but, I'm unable to boot into recovery mode. (I pressed the home, volume-up, and the power button until the blue screen on the upper-left corner appeared. Then I let go of the power button)
Flash TWRP in-hopes of being able to access recovery(It was a longshot).
Thank you for your help!

If it froze without you doing anything and you cannot boot it anymore then I am afraid you have hardware damage.

Is there anything that I can try to revive my phone?
Dealing with a Samsung Galaxy S4 that will not get past the Samsung "Custom" bootscreen.
The ROM was stock Android KitKat. It was rooted, and Safestrap recovery was installed. The Xposed Framework was also installed. The device was working fine.
Then the power button broke, so installed Power Button to Volume Button and Shutdown & Reboot.
Then used Shutdown & Reboot to reboot. The phone rebooted to the Samsung "Custom" bootscreen, but did not progress beyond that.
Have not been able to get past the Samsung "Custom" (black) bootscreen since then. :crying:
Here's what's been done:
Tried to enter Safe Mode
Pulled the SIM card out
Pulled the battery out
Put the battery back in
Pressed (and held) the volume-down button while putting the battery in
Nothing has helped or been successful.
There was no microSD card in the device, so all the data is on it's internal storage.
At the least, I would like to get all the data off.
At best, I'd like to get the phone working again.
TIA. :highfive:
Is this an AT&T sgh-i337 phone?
Stuck at the boot logo normally means you have soft bricked it. The only way to recover is to find the correct factory firmware for you device and flash it via Odin. Make sure it the correct firmware! Flashing the wrong one is a problem.
So, I rooted and tried flashing the stock ROM (from Sammobile, same country, same exact model [SM-G950F], I already had the stock ROM and had never flashed anything else to the phone other than root, June security update, my phone had July's) to see if I could fix a problem that couldn't be fixed with any other method I had tried.
Everything in Odin seemed to go well, I got the PASS green box at the end. But then the phone couldn't go pass the Samsung logo when booting up. I left it quite a few minutes, before trying to boot into recovery mode and wiping data. Only to realize that I couldn't boot into recovery mode. In fact, I can't even turn the phone off. No combination of hardware keys works other than power button + bixby + vol down, to get into download mode. But that's of no use, because when I plug my phone into my PC (with the same cable and port I used before to root and flash the firmware into it) it is not recognized by Odin or the PC.
It just has the Samsung logo flashing slowly over and over because I can't turn the device off. By the time the battery dies out I'll most likely have the logo burnt into the display.
I also haven't been able to find any help online. Everyone's suggestion is “boot into recovery and wipe data”, but I can't do that.
Is my phone gone for good?
