Hello
I have Fire HD 8 (10th generation). I dont want anything Amazon (but only the Kindle App). I used Firetoolbox v17 to deBloat everything out. And installed Google Play Service. Now when I try to install Kindle app from play store, google shows me the enable button (not the install button), which means i will use the one which was already present, and now disabled because of FireToolBox. I don't want to enables it, as it enables few other things at the background.
So, I downloaded the Kindle APK online (from a couple of apk_mirrors) but everytime the installation failed. I assume some part of Amazon framework in the fire OS doesn't let let me install that. It does not show any error but only "installation failed".
Is there a way for me to install a standalone Kindle APK. Or, there is a way to change build.prop in FireOS, and make Amazon servers see my request coming from a standard Android variant and Not FireOS.

I'm starting this thread so we can share ways to De-Amazon our kindle fire hd 7's and make them more Android like. Please post ways to remove as much of Amazon's stuff as we can. Including freezing apps, removing them, replacing them, build.prop tweaks, and really just anything we can safely do to our androkindles. I hope this will help us all have a more custom experience until custom rom's come out. My intention is for us to brainstorm so post what you want!
Root and Google Play for Amazon 7" Kindle Fire HD Software Version 7.2.3
Great idea, I will start with the basics:
1) Root Kindle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045999&page=5
2) Install Google Play: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045999&page=5
3) Disable the Amazon OTA Updates, delete or move /system/ect/security/otacerts.zip to /sdcard/download - Reboot the Kindle.
4) Google Play to be the default Market move /system/app/MarketIntentProxy.apk to /sdcard/download - Reboot the Kindle
5) Disable lock screen ads. Rename /system/app/dtcp_apk.apk to dtcp_apk.apk.bak
(btw, I recommend using the rename method for other tricks as well; that way you don't need to remember where things go if you ever need to restore them.)
Facelift
6) Give the Kindle a facelift. Using Google Play, download and install Go Launcher HD.
Once installed, launch the new launcher through Apps, then click on the Kindle "Home" button to make Go Launcher HD your new default launcher.
I found a way to have al the sideloaded apps to appear on the app menu on fire tv. All you need to do is install amazon appstore for android (you can download it on the amazon's website). Sideloading does not work for this purpose. What i did was installed dropbox and added thea pk to it and installed from threre. Now go to the App Menu and MAGIC happens, you will get list of al the installed apps on it. DOWNSIDE: YOU WILL LOSE THE ORIGINAL AMAZON APPSTORE THAT CAME WITH AFTV, BUT DONT WORRY YOU CAN ALWAYS GO BACK TO ORIGINAL STYLE JUST BY UNISTALLING THE AMAZON APPSTORE YOU INSTALLED AND RESTARTING THE DEVICE. Don't forget to say thanks.

Amazon Fire HD Tables with Fire OS are great and even more enjoyable with this work around so you can enjoy your favorite apps from Android.
this method was tested on Fire HD 7 running Fire OS 4.5.5 but it should work with all Amazon Tablets
Here is the video how to Enjoy

Hello,
I rooted my tablet a while ago, froze several apps with Titanium and all works fine. Save for the Kindle app. I'm a Prime member and I use Kindle. Since the root, the Kindle app won't update and often crashes. I must often re-download books I had already downloaded before from my library. Is there a way to fix the Kindle app?
I tried freezing it with Titanium along with other apps that seemed related, and then to install an apk of a different version, but it will never install.
I was afraid to uninstall Kindle with Titanium. But is it even possible? If yes, will I be able to install the Google Play version of the app after? Thing is, I don't want to lose access to the Kindle app for good...
Thanks for any input.
Hello
I had similar problem before (rooted). You can try to clear the cache in recovery mode.
+ plus power on button to clear cache.
It works for me afterward.
I cleared the cache already, not in recovery, and it seems fine so far.
Still, being able to uninstall the Kindle version and get the one on Google Play would be best....

Good to hear that
The Kindle in Fire OS has some advantages over the one in Google Play...
However, it might be better to have a unified interface for most people ( I am one of them) , please share if you can get rid of that and if any side effect available.....

What are the advantages of the Fire OS Kindle vs the Google Play one?
I'm still very hesitant to completely uninstall it with Titanium (if it's possible), fearing I could not be able to install it again after the fact... If it goes on like now without crashing or erasing my downloaded books, I'll live with the Fire OS Kindle for now...

1. It don't need you to login XD
2. Not sure if Newstand an exclusive feature to fire os kindle ?
I think the package name for both play and fire store might share same directory so they are killing each other.
I am not a hardcore android user so i wont' able to test all of these, but worst case just adb update the fireos again should be ok
I have a HD 10 (7th Gen) on Fire OS 5.4.1.0. I uninstalled the kindle app using titanium and didn't have a backup (whoops). I downloaded from playstore and it installs but does not open. Anyone have the original kindle app apk? Also have same problem with Amazon Shopping.
I rather not have to factory reset and root again. Only have a few frozen apps..Advertising ID, amazon.jackson19, devicesoftwareOTA, Email, Fire Keyboard (Asian, Chinese), Fire Launcher, Forced OTA, Silk browser, Silk content service, Special Offers, and Unified Search. Any suggestions???
I just installed Google Playstore to my 9th gen Fire HD 10. The Play Store opens just fine, but I am unable to download any applications. Any time i click download, it just sits there and reads "waiting for download". Has anyone had this issue and give me advice how to correct it?
Thank you for any help.
How did you install the Play Store? Maybe you missed a dependency.

I followed these steps from Androidpolice. I found these same steps on many other websites as well. All using the same .apk files. I did them twice in fact, since I had the same issue the first time. I deleted all the files, did a full reboot and tried again with the same result.
Fire HD 10 (9th Gen, 2019)
The steps for the latest Fire HD 10 are a little different than the steps for other models, since it's running newer Android software. Go to each of the below pages and tap the main Download buttons, but do not open the downloaded files yet.
Google Account Manager v7.1.2
Google Services Framework v9-4832352
For these last two links, select the version closest to the top of the list which doesn't have "beta" in the name. Again, don't open the files yet.
Google Play Services (64-bit ARM, nodpi, Android 9.0+)
Google Play Store (universal, nodpi)
Now it's time to install the apps. Open the Documents app on your tablet (it might also be called 'Docs'), select your tablet's Download folder, and open the apps in the below order.
com.google.gsf.login
com.google.android.gsf
com.google.android.gms
com.android.vending
Once you have installed all four apps, hold down the power button, and tap 'Restart' to restart your tablet. Once it has booted back up, open the Play Store from the home screen and see if it works
Yes it's because your google services didn't download properly.. I went back throught the process slowier lol and it's working great.
