CarDongle - Android Head-Units

Has anyone tried getting one of these to run so that you can connect other Bluetooth units to control through your head unit? I bought one to be able to get my air ride and headlights through my Joying units. So far I haven't had any luck and I can't seem to find much info out there on them since there is such a shortage, I ended up taking one of the 1.0 since I was not worried about the nonworking GPS since the main vehicle I will run it in has 2 head units and can run GPS from the other. I did a search on here but didn't find anything, any help would be much welcomed

Figured I would share what I have been going through in case anyone else was going to make the same mistake, so far can't seem to find a way to make it work on a Joying unit

Eonon GA6150 BlueTooth question

Hello xda people!
I recently purchased an eonon head unit for my E46 316i from ebay. Specifically a GA6150 (rk3188), which was sold together with a reverse camera.
I am really happy with my order, and pleased with the HU's performance. I managed to connect succesfully my OBD adapter, my bluetooth phone and my wifi hotspot and all is working great.!
Although, I found out something which bothers me. I have purchased a Bluetooth RGB LED controller from ebay, in order to DIY install some LEDs in the interior of the car, and I wanted to control them from my eonon android HU. I can control them through my S7 Edge Android phone via the app called Happy Lighting. I have found out that the manufacturer of these controllers is called Triones. So my problem is, that when I open the app, it asks me to turn on the bluetooth, and allows me to press one of two buttons, allow and deny. If I press allow, a message will appear saying: "Turning on Bluetooth" or something like that, with a spinning wheel, indefinately. It will not stop and it will stay like this all the time, making the app useless, making me press home button to exit. All this happens, even though I know that bluetooth is actually on (I havent yet found an on/off switch for Bluetooth, so I suppose it is always on). If I press deny, then I can enter the app, but I am not able to see any of the bluetooth controllers, is there any way, to make the app think that the bluetooth is on? Or actually turn it off or anything? Would you please help me figure out what should I do? And one last question, is how can I change my screen orientation from landscape to portrait?
I will attach a photo of the details for the version of my Head Unit.
This is the link of the HU I purchased from ebay: http://r.ebay.com/aegMSa
And this is the link to the controller: http://r.ebay.com/aDfflI
While this is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qh.Happylightgoogle&hl=en
Thank you very mych for your time!
Yep had 3 Paypal disputes with Eonon about that issue a year ago on a MTCB unit, I would imagine it would be the same with the MTCD
I think they route all Bluetooth information through the MCU and use non standard configuration of their Bluetooth drivers. So applications that ask to turn the BT on cannot as it is not configured that way.
This is something they were not willing to fix or were unable to.

First of all thank you for your reply, i really appreciate it.!
Second, damn it. Damn them! That is really frustrating, i've managed to find a bit more info digging around here and in russian forums. It's sad that i cannot use anything else via bluetooth other than a few OBD adapters and my phone..
I will shortly contact Eonon for my MCU update file and see if anything can be done there. Otherwise, i will see if anything can be fixed via a custom rom and xposed stuff.
P.S.: If there was any other android HU that could support full BT, i would gladly return my Eonon and buy that instead..

Joying intel Sofia units is a bit better with the BT, but do some research first.
Good luck with Eonon
From memory it to do with kernel drivers and BT stack and they would not fix
Also be careful with Eonon and returns, additionally PayPal protection does not cover car audio products.

Digging up an old thread
I would like to connect bluetooth accessories to my eonon new android 10 head unit (2020) - the above looks familiar as i cannot seem to 'find' the devices when searched for using the strange bluetooth 'app'.
Is there anything that can be done? I'd like to add a bluetooth remote (alternatiev to steering wheel controls) - but its not detected by the HU

Hello from Michigan

i'm new to the forum but have been lurking and reading up for quite a while on these android head units.
I need to replace the head unit in my 2009 Subaru Forester. I kind of a gadget freak, so these android units caught my eye. I was interested in the DSP units from androidautoshop.com but they warned me away from them and recommended their FX8 units (though they didn't really say why except that they were better quality).
The option I was looking at before the DSP unit was a new XTRONS unit which I could get from amazon. They seem to be well regarded from what I've read and the sound quality sounds like it's pretty good with the new amp chips they are using. Now just the other day I ran across a Dasaita unit on amazon that is specific fit for my vehicle so it wouldn't need an installation kit and BONUS has a 9" screen!
Does anyone have any insight on these units? If I go with an android unit it's going to be to satisfy my tech geek so I'm going to want to be able to customize it.
I need it to have good sound. Doesn't have to be audiophile quality, but good.
Decent to good FM reception.
good connection for Bluetooth (i've heard in particular that some of these units have both connection and sound quality issues with bluetooth)
ability to connect to an ODBII sensor for my car. One that I choose, not dictated to me by the head unit company prefereably.
ability to connect to an aftermarket rear view camera.
able to use Waze and Google maps. preferably with audible directions. also offline mapping for those occasions when I don't have a cell connection.
Ideally I would be connecting these direct to speakers, with the possiblity of adding external amplification down the road.
AndroidAutoShop.com FX8 - I have concerns about them and they don't really say much about why this unit is the best.
XTRONS - seems to be popular from what i've read, though i'm not sure about the bluetooth
Dasaita - love the look of the 9" screen with no ugly install kit. Quite a bit more expensive but possibly worth it? I just can't find much info about these. I think I read somewhere on this site that they were pretty good, but I don't know where and it wasn't about this specific unit.
I'm not allowed to post links to the 3 units above yet, but the first one is on androidautoshop and the last 2 are readily available on Amazon.
Are any of these a good choice for me? or possibly a different recommendation? or should I just forget it and go with a higher end Kenwood or Pioneer head unit with Android Auto and use an HDMI for any video needs? I'm not against tinkering and these seem like a really cool option (possibly saving money over traditional head untis as well) but I don't want to get a giant headache that just never works right.
any help from you guys is greatly appreciated.

New to Android headunits: Bluetooth and firmware questions

Hi!
I'm new here and am wondering if someone could help me out.
I got an Android headunit through a local workshop. I thought it'd be an upgrade, and in some respects it is, but it's been giving me endless problems. I've also eventually come to the realisation that the mechanic is pretty clueless about troubleshooting software issues (I suppose he's more of an installer) so I'm pretty much on my own here. He's talking to his supplier but has been established these Chinese suppliers aren't usually helpful.
There are 2 things which I can't figure out:
1. On day 1, the bluetooth worked. I could pair my iPhone with the headunit through the unit's stock "bluetooth/dialer" app. But the unit wouldn't power back on after it was installed the first time. Mechanic told me the the unit came shipped with a wire switched around and once he corrected that problem, the headunit has been working pretty reliably. Bluetooth stopped working after this, however. I've done a factory reset, tried the RST button upfront but to no avail.
I've go to settings and searched for "bluetooth" (yes, noted that it's hidden on these units!) and made sure it's switched on. Occasionally, I see my phone's name appear on the "settings" page, but I can't pair it with the unit. It remains stuck on "pairing." It still searches endlessly in the bluetooth/dialer app.
Is there anything else I should look into?
2. Can the OS and firmware be upgraded on my unit? I unfortunately, have no idea what brand/model the headunit is. My car's pretty rare in my country (Renault Clio 2015) and the headunits on Aliexpress were for a lower-end version with different connectors. The workshop got a unit for my model through its Chinese contacts, but it came in a non-descript box. Here's the info I've gotten from the Settings screen:
Processor type: QuadCore-T3
Android Version: 7.1.1
MCU version: T5.3.21-63-9B1-C06101-180904
System version: V8.3.2_20180919.193359_ZH5-N
I'll be going through the forum to learn as much about Android headunits but would appreciate any help in the mean time.
Thanks!
Spent some time looking around the forums. Thought I'd log what I've discovered for others who may be searching for similar info.
To recap, I have an Android head unit with no branding. Initially, all I had was the info from the "about device" screen, which provided a bunch of numbers.
I got more information by downloading a hardware info app. There are a few but they generally work the same by providing you with more hardware info (ie. clues).
Discovered I have an Allwinner T3 P3 system. I'm sure I'm lumping several things together but it was enough info to search the forum with.
Discovered this wonderful thread which is generally about Android units based on the above chipset.
Within that thread I came across this one which was extremely helpful. It details how there are 3 types of Allwinner T3 P3 systems which are all different as far as firmware is concerned. Links to their respective firmware are provided, as well as some info on how to reset/recover the system. Glad I found this as I have a better idea how these things work, and more importantly, it cautions against what NOT to do (and risk bricking your headunit).
The the post also links a Russian site that has even more info on my unit from the Allwinner T3 P3 family. Will explore this next (thanks Google translate!).
Will also try to do a factory recover to see if I can fix the bluetooth problem. It worked on Day 1 so at the very least I know the hardware works. That said, who knows if the hardware was fried when the wires were switched around.
Solved the bluetooth problem. Answer was in the Russian thread posted above!
Thank you, just got a unit with same MCU version and your post has helped me identify this thing!
Hi Ultimax,
I have a small question. I have the same car as you ( a 2015 clio 4) and I'm wondering about the Canbus configuration to use to get the steering wheel boutons to work? Looked everywhere and nothing on this topic so I'm really waiting for your directions..

Hey!
Glad to help!
What headunit comes installed in your Clio 4? Is it a R-Link TomTom unit (without the USB port next to the screen) or the more basic MediaNav (with the USB port next to the screen)?
If it's the MediaNav headunit, you're in luck. There are quite a few aftermarket Android headunits which are supposedly plug and play, including steering wheel buttons. At least that's what's claimed. I know Pioneer Europe has a headunit which is a 1 for 1 replacement for the stock unit. It even comes with a new plastic front so it fits perfectly and a new wiring harness.
https://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/sph-evo62dab-clio
If it's the R-Link TomTom unit, then I'm afraid you're out of luck. This is the version of Clio 4 I have unfortunately. I've searched high and low on the internet for a suitable wiring harness+CANBUS which would allow me to use the factory steering wheel buttons but couldn't find any. The closest I came was one I got from China through a local installer, but only the volume and channel up/down buttons worked. The Android headunit itself which came with the CANBUS was sh!t and I was tempted to go back to the factory unit. Only thing keeping me from doing so was I'd already spent too much time and money getting it to work somewhat.
However, I recently installed a new Pioneer headunit. My local installer managed to replace the Android unit with it. He couldn't get the steering buttons to work though. He said he'd have to custom program one which would be pretty costly. So, I've given up on using the factory steering wheel buttons.
A cheap workaround is to use an aftermarket steering wheel control kit. You attach new controls to your steering wheel (either clipped, glued or recessed into new holes drilled into your steering wheel). The controls are powered by a long-life battery. The control unit is paired wirelessly with a receiver which you connect to the your headunit via the KEY1/KEY2 (Pioneer calls them Input 1 and 2), ground and ACC wires. Most headunits have these wires.
This is the option I'm going for. My kit hasn't arrived yet but I'm optimistic it'll work.
FYI, this is the one I bought:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000584816400.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.317a4c4dfTx6k3
There are other designs too. Just search the site for "universal steering wheel control radio"
Hope this helps!

Need help please... new to all this

Hi everyone. Sorry for bothering you all but I’m having a huge issue and I don’t know what to do. I’m new to aftermarket head units and these dongles. So I just bought this new head unit for my car, and I bought it because it said it supports Apple CarPlay. I ordered this white dongle with the head unit which tells you to download zbox, and just plug it in the unit. So I did all that and CarPlay worked, but here is the issue. If I’m listening to music, it works perfect. But the second I open a GPS app such as Waze or Maps, the music started getting all glitchy and the system started to lag. I uninstalled everything in the unit to hope it works, but still did the same thing. I searched online to see what other apps people use, and spend 4 hours trying to get AutoKit on the headunit because I saw people using that app, but that did not work either. I really don’t know what do do anymore. If you guys can please help me out, I would really appreciate it. It won’t let me post the head unit link, but it’s called Cartrim T8 Head Unit 4Runner. If you can please help, I would really appreciate it. I have the white zbox dongle

Recommendations please

I know this has been asked a thousand times before but there doesn't seem to be many answers to it. I even checked the aoggested posts that come up when I typed this post. What would be a good double din android head unit to start with please? Are there preferred units for installing custom roms? I used to have an android tablet set up as my car stereo, literally with stereo line out, but that was a bit clunky so looking at a dedicated unit. I already have a reverse camera wired up so would ditch the screen and use the head unit. If no one has any suggestions are there any review sites for these. I did have a look but as they seem to be unbranded not a lot comes up. Thanks for any help.
No help
Due to the overwhelming help, response and support from this community I've managed to buy a head unit. ****ed if I know of its any good or not but I'll find out when it comes.
