The Razr HD series has been out for quite some time now. There was a lot of hype prior to launch of the phone. One of the biggest hypes was the phones construction, I have owned 3 smart phones before this and never used a case, and prior to owning the razr HD never cracked a screen. I have cracked 2 screens on this phone already. The first was 17 days after purchase the phone feel off my desk on to a shelf, it was a 1.5 foot drop, in the middle of the night the inside LCD cracked, had to go through insurance. The second time I place my phone on a flat surface and the inside LCD cracked again, The warranty was honored that time. There has to be something clearly wrong with the construction of the phone for the inside screen to crack so easily neither time was there any damage to the gorilla glass exterior. My second beef is the plastic around the bezel of the phone. The plastic sticks out higher than the screen and is a prime target for scratches and dents and is not by any means scratch or dent resistant. I'm not an engineer but when I looked at the phone before I bought it my gut told me that the plastic around the bezel was going to get messed up easily, motorola could have done a better job with that design and from a practical stand point the raised plastic is ergonomically uncomfortable. Aside from that the phone lacks accessories, I do not care for the cases offered and many of the companies I would be interested in getting a case from do not manufacture accessories for the razr hd series. Motorola themselves do not offer a dock for the phone and if they do I can not find it anywhere. Lastly the phone itself runs glitchy even with jellybeen and "butter" or whatever they call, rooting did not solve glitches nor should you be required to change a device from stock to get it to run at an acceptable level when it is sold for $700 plus. I have skipped frame rates hangs and freezes all the time. When using HDMI to my phone the screen gets cut off, why include if it doesn't work properly. The only thing on the phone that has lived up to expectations is the battery, however the battery takes FOREVER to charge, I never have the time to completely charge it and I do not like charging overnight.
I feel your pain man... well not tjat deep cause i havent cracked my phone but i am dissapointed at the HDMI resolution on YouTube and Vevo... plus the lack dock sucks 00===D - - MOTOROLA
Some unbelievable points raised here.... And please if you want people to respond learn proper grammar and paragraphing...
OK, first off, the cracked screen - you've made a fairly big assumption that because you've broken it twice, there must be something wrong with the construction of the phone. I'd be interested to see if others have any issues with it.
Your second issue, the raised plastic doesn't seem to be too big of an issue to me. I'm an electrician, and have my phone in my pocket all day (with no cover/case) and have no such issues around the raised plastic. I'm taking a real close look at it now, and there are no scratches on the edges, not too much dirt, no problems at all really. I think you're picking at straws looking for problems with your phone on the physical side of things...
I for one love the size of the phone, and how rigid it feels in my hand. Coming from an SGS2 (which back felt like soft plastic - because it was!) the solid feel of the phone is a godsend to me.
Motorola do offer a dock for the phone it's directly there on their website. (http://www.motorola.com.au/consumers/MOTOROLA-ESP-PEDESTAL-WITH-SMART-CHARGER/169654,en_AU,pd.html)
I did find the phone glitchy to begin with, but I also found my telstra SGS2 glitchy when it had bloatware on it. Remove the bloatware, remove the glitchiness. Rooting alone doesn't change any hardware/software characteristics of a phone...
I haven't used the HDMI out yet, but was interested in the ability to output video while also charging the phone.
Why wouldn't you want to charge a phone overnight? That sort of complaint is one of the more ridiculous ones I've ever read...
Working fine for me.
Just kidding. Just wanted to be the jerk who says that . I have gripes about it as well. Not many of them are the same as stated because of how I use the phone, and because I haven't had the internal or external glass crack, don't use the hdmi, and charge overnight, but it has been both nice to have and its had its dissapointments. The "project butter", which I think is just marketing BS to be honest, and the screen stutter is especially annoying. The camera was a huge let down as well. I wish I had researched the camera quality before buying, however that said I've made the best of it and have it syncing with the home server that cleans up the photos. When I first bought it, my biggest irritation was that there were no pull down toggles and as my first Motorola phone, its baffling that it wouldn't be included regardless of a dedicated screen on the default launcher. I didn't even know that there were toggle apps on the market and just assumed that they were part of Android so I was really happy to find them. As for the plastic being raised above the screen, and touching on accessories, I found it next to impossible to even find a case and screen cover and had to go online and of the local stores found 3 cases. One looked like crap and I bought the other two. One didn't fit properly and luckily the last one fit very well while offering good protection and improved grip and doesn't add much bulk to the phone. I haven't had the time to scratch the plastic up because I found cases. Selection did suck. I reckoned, though, when I saw it that a raised plastic around the glass might serve to help stop it from breaking if it falls as it wouldn't land directly on the glass. The phone is heavy and glass breaks regardless of how you make it (glass is glass at the end of the day).
I'm also dissapointed.
On the plus side, the stock build with a better launcher is, on my carrier which is Telstra, anyway, is somewhat bloat free in comparision to a lot of other manufactures and I find that once its set up to my liking, my only real gripe left is the camera, the lack of community and development, here on XDA, with the phone, and indeed the lack of accessories. If I had the cracing problem that you did I'd be pissed the hell off though.
I came to this phone from the galaxy s2 and if I had to make a recommendation between the two I'd tell people to get the galaxy s2 (older and probably now very affordable) along with the Samsung extendable battery and then to find a custom Samsung based ROM that suits them and is stripped down of bloatware. The only saving thing about the phone now is that I'm used to it; battery life is really good, and the galaxys2 display does look old now that I haven't used it in a while. The processor is noticably faster but it doesn't stop the wacky launcher jitters that turn up and I've been messing around with the values of a couple of governors recently because just knowing that the phone does crazy scaling when just sitting there looking at it drives me nuts.
One last thing I forgot is "No Goggle Wallet? What the FREAKING HELL is nfc even for then?"
Downgrade to ICS and solve all your lag and hdmi issues. The thing is, your phone might have come deffective but that doesn't mean ours are. Mine works great and I feel proud of Motorola.
Verizon's OTA this week solved most of the issues including hdmi and lag.
Cases like yours happen all the time to everyone with every phone. It's not the manufacturer's problem. It's a combination of bad luck and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. My recommendation is to charge the phone with a stock charger. It took hours for me with an old motorola charger and using the stock one solved this. Go to ICS if U want real hdmi and less lag.

Except for the glass, I have the same issues. Plastic bezel is really fragile. SIM tray seems to start to oxidize. I acidentally dropped a coin on the bezel and it dented. Both performance and battery were affected after jelly bean update. I have the phone for less than 4 months. At first I though the phone was incredible and strongly suggested my gf to buy it. Now I'm really disappointed. Motorola didn't managed to cover all the bases.
Apparently all phones are different cause I've had the phone a month or so with the Otter Box Defender and the phone is in mint condition after being in my destructive hands Still runs smooth as ever with lots of apps and music on it. Only complaint would be speaker volume.

as i was reading this post i dropped my cell about 3 1/2 feet high and it landed on a custom made computer with a metal cover because my 1 1/2 yr old son tripped me... i it landed face 1st halfway on the edge then to the ground... no scratch
I dropped my phone from about five feet onto concrete (the one time I didn't have an Otterbox on it!), some scratches near the top by the battery - but the phone is in perfect working condition.
I am rough with phones and have had the razr HD for 4 months without a cracked screen or any scratches. The bevelled plastic lip on the out side of the screen is a great idea, it means you can lay the phone flat on its screen without getting any surface scratches.
The razr HD is a great phone, the best available handset on any plan in Australia at the moment. Amazing battery life, the o.s is smooth and lite, 4G is fast and the handset feels strong & it looks great. The only complaint I have is sometimes switching wireless on can be buggy, but my previous phone (htc desire) had this same issue so it maybe an android issue..

I'm not looking for issues I am just simply calling them as I see them. I have thrown phones across the room, droid incredible, droid charge and have never broken my screen. I do not baby my phone. As for the plastic bezel my complaint stems from the replacement phone I have received. Less than 2 days after receiving it and not abusing or dropping it at all my phone has a nice mystery dent on the top. I'm glad that you love the phone and have not had any of the same issues as me. I went to link that you have provided and I didn't find a dock there. I did see a $40 plastic stand thats sold by motorola that will work with any phone or tablet. I am looking for a real dock that has male HDMI and charger plugs fitted for the RAZR HD series, Motorola seems to have docks for every phone they make with the exception of the Razr HD series. When I rooted my phone and froze all the bloatware with TI backup I didn't see much improvement over stock at all. If you think I am uneducated because of my grammar you are ignorent, there are topics other english in higher education, I choose to study math because I don't care for grammar. If you can read english I think you will understand me relatively well, I'm not Robert Frost but you can get my point. To the rest I apologize for my none use of paragraphs.

Very dissapointed myself. At first I loved this phone...no more.
The raised bezel is dented and scratched. I don't care about scratches since I refuse to use cases and it comes with the territory but the straight up gouges and dents are disconcerting.
Lag lag lag...not sure what project butter is cuz I've never seen this! Constantly redraws when going to home screen, browsers are slow sometimes, graphics stutter.
On top of that it doesn't function properly in my car for Bluetooth.
There are things I love about it, but its phones like this that give android the perception of being laggy and glitchy.
Its also disconcerting that moto put out an update and it still stutters same as always.

Previously, I had an LG G2 on Verizon but wanted to leave for a different carrier, so last December I purchased through eBay a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D5803. Initially, I was quite impressed. I really liked the LG G2 for its battery life, but the Sony Z3 Compact blew that away. And the Z3C performed a bit better, too. And I also liked that the Z3C was a bit smaller.
Then came the Lollipop update.
My battery life fell by at least 1/3 and the (non-reversible without root) update killed my NFC. And magnetic charging only works up to about 85% whether the phone is on or off. Sony is giving me a runaround, telling me to call them to ensure that my phone is under warranty. If it is, they want me to send in the phone for an evaluation that will take at least 14 days. And if a warranty repair is in order, Sony will have my phone even longer.
I pointed out to them the great inconvenience of this process, which would force me to purchase a different phone in the interim. I assured them that if this was the route I chose that I certainly wouldn't be purchasing another Sony device. So today I ordered through eBay a brand-new LG G2. It looks like I'll try sending the Z3C in. Whether they fix it or not, I will be selling the Z3C.
Thus will end my last foray into owning a Sony phone.

Did you do a factory reset?
Anyway you could roll back to KitKat through Flashtool and wait for a better Lollipop version to come (without making any root and without losing any warranty).
Don't use Stamina mode or data queuing on Lollipop. Burns battery for some reason. Lollipop battery life is better with it off than kit kat on.
I've done numerous factory resets. But I haven't tried turning off data queuing. I'll give it a shot to see what happens. Thanks.

I had a bug with exchange which checked mail every 3s (first position in battery usage). Had to delete the account and reconfigure, working now.
Well, most of your points are your major defects.
Why display is the worst? It's pretty decent imo and you can play with white balance for even better results.
I'm using KK since I got the phone ( October last year) even tho I have OTA update for Lollipop. No glass problems, no batter drain, NFC, wifi, speakers issues.
I got it for a good price on contract and yesterday I've unlocked it.
All I wanted was a newer phone with good battery life and good performance. I got that so I'm happy.

Woah dude so much hate... Most people go for the z3 compact because of the screen size and/or battery life. In both categories it's basically unbeaten. There is no perfect device out there period. But the z3c has everything I need. If it does not suit your needs then go ahead and sell it. But it is definitely not a bad device.
Btw I'm still on KK, .0 versions tend to have problems in most cases (even ios..)
There are literally NO perfect phones. Each has its own flaws. Just buy one with the necessary features that you want and adapt with it.
Well as a previous poster noted, Sony must use different manufacturers to make the Z3C. I make that statement because it seems noone here suffers from the dreaded "sudden death" syndrome that plagues some ZC3 phones. Mine being one of them. Worked brilliantly for 6 weeks then one morning it just died. Nothing would bring it back to life. Spent 4 hours on the phone to Sony tech support here in Oz trying everything in the guys bag of tricks but nothing worked. In the end the guy said "it's faulty, return it to where you bought it". I did that, they replaced the motherboard and returned it. Worked great for 2 weeks then "sudden death" struck again. Contacted the seller who told me to send it back to the repairer. After a week I contacted the repairer to learn that there are replacing the battery and the motherboard (again). If after testing it again shows it is fixed and return it to me, I'll just toss it in the bottom draw unless my kids want it. I can't afford to have a phone that just dies with no warning.
BTW my Z3C was a Singtel Singapore phone.
If you haven't heard of the sudden death bug then just google it. Numerous users suffer from it but strangely none on this forum.
Great phone when it works. Crap when it doesn't.
You do realize you don't need root to flash the kitkat .ftf firmware available on this very website?
I have similar sentiments about the phone. My main issues are the fragility and screen quality. Out of the box the screen is very blue. And no matter what I do with the white balance it's not possible to get rid of the greyish whites. Viewing angles are great by Sony standards, but so so compared to other phones. It's a shame because I prefer lcd's over amoled screens, but this one isn't great.
The phone itself is a nice size, but the square shape diminishes the usability. And the fact that it's so fragile and slippery necessitates a case which then completely ruins the form factor. The build quality really isn't great either imo. It looks nice and the materials are decent but the phone feels hollow and unsubstantial. Contrast that to a 2013 Moto X. It's all plastic and composite materials but it's incredibly solid and has an ergonimic and grippy back.
The camera is so so in all except the best conditions.
What's then left is the Sony UI (which I think is great, but many don't) and battery life. My greatest wish for future iterations of this device is for it to be durable.

Exactly, imagine if people who don't have issues start threads like "I don't have a broken screen" or "my photos actually turn out pretty ok" or "my phone is waterproof", you wouldn't even see the ones with issues anymore, if you want to talk numbers you have to consider all z3c users, not only the ones that complain on forums. As somebody said before, the z3c isn't perfect, but then again, no phone is.

To me my z3c feels like a solid slab, not hollow at all. It's definitely much more solid than any previous Sony(Ericsson) phone I've had, which always developed creaky and clicky sounds after a while.
so,yesterday i swapped my LG g3 for an Xperia Z3 +65€. My G3 was in mint condition, with screen protector from the first day and case. Never broken. The guy also said that his z3 was also in perfect condition. I wanted to change cuz my mom has a z1 and it's a great phone, i like sony's phones, and the battery is great, while on g3 is awful, and the screen on g3 is also awful if you ask me. The guy was working and he sent his girlfriend to come and swap phones with me. She said she was in a major hurry and she will be late for her trip and we need to do this fast. She handed me the original box and there was everything inside, and the phone, and immediately took my phone and started examining it. Everything was okay, and i examined the z3 and at the first look, everything was alright too. No scratches, the ui was smooth and no cracks/chunks at the sides. I immediately fell in love because the phone just feels great in hand and the screen is beautiful. As she was in a hurry, i gave her the money, we shook hands and she was on her way. All of this lasted like 3-4 minutes. Then i tried to put my sim card in, and it has nano sim, so i immediately went to the mall and t- mobile center to get my sim. While i was waiting for my turn, i accidentaly opened the camera, and whoa- water spots. Awesome. I call the guy, but no answers. Great. Immediately dissapointed by myself, but oh well, i never use the camera anyway. Then i go to my gf's place, wanna watch some youtube, try to turn the volume up, and guess what? vol up button also not working. great. Run the diagnostics, and light sensor also fails. And on top of that, the back panel is loose a little bit on the bottom. great. And all of this because i was stupid and didn't look closely.
And on top of all this, i have the version that cant have it's bootloader unlocked.
When you swap phones, examine the every last bit of it.
But i seriously love this phone, i'm just afraid i'll break it.
damn, ouch. sorry to hear that.
i'm also one of the "screwed" ones, but it was actually my own fault.
last month on my 4 week thailand holiday, in the first week my phone fell down and the glas broke.
display and everything still worked, but the touchscreen broke and i couldn't use the phone anymore.
since i wanted to use it as a camera on my vacation, i had to replace the display FAST,
but the next sony support center was 450km away in bangkok. there was another repair
shop that did some awesome work before (i checked their website, facebook, ratings, etc.)
so i decided to give them a try.
the display he ordered even came from sony itself (i have seen the package arriving the next day)
and the display is definitely genius and everything is working perfectly again, but there's one
bitter aftertaste with it: i have definitely lost waterproofing (checked through pressure sensor)
and i can see a small bit of light coming through the display and the case on the right side.
i wouldn't blame that service center for it, because if i wanted waterproofing again, i should
surely have sent it to sony instead.
actually i am thinking about if i should open the phone myself and replace the glue stickers
to attach the display. but i am scared a bit that i break more. everything's working perfectly,
and i think, as long as i don't submerge it into water, it should be fine.
Sorry to hear that man...
I have two Z3 phones and love them.
Better luck next time, I have been screwed ttoo, but now I only buy from new
That's not good.
Someone I know had a similiar 'I'm in a hurry' experience..
Turned out the phone had almost literally fallen off the back of a lorry . . . a delivery lorry, and was subsequently barred from all networks by the carrier
As for the waterproofing on the other phone, well, you could completely strip it and rebuild it with new seals, but there's still no guarantee it would be as waterproof as it was when new. They're not hard to get apart, just a bit of heat, and a being careful, and slowly does it. Watch a few dissassembly videos on YouTube (as guides only) and see if you feel capable of doing it. One word of advice, be very careful when disconnecting the ribbon cables as the sockets on the circuit boards are easily damaged.

I have many experience with dissasembling/reassembling phones and changing parts, i've changed so much faulty hardware on various phones that i could easly work in an IT store . It's okay, the light sensor works, i had the phone checked out, turns out they will change my buttons and camera+seal it for small amount of money. I'm overall satisfied. Only thing i'm not satisfied with is the damn bootloader, i don't think i can live with it man. My device history is pretty big, and never i ever had a phone that didn't run a custom ROM or at least a custom Kernel on it. And now this. This is just soul crushing for me. I installed the Marshmallow concept today, and while it's pretty good and AOSP(ish), the thought of at least not having root and installing AT LEAST layers on it is killing me slowly. And just to think i swapped the phone mainly because of the battery and because of jerpelea and his aosp contribuitons and kernel contributions i really like.. Damn. Im seriously gonna cry now.

Ah, so sorry to hear this story mate. I honestly HATE cheating bastards. I'm on the same boat with you regarding custom roms ,kernels and stuff. I know, we can unlock bootloader but it is NOT even close to be the same as with most other phones.(except Samsuck and their knox) . Maybe it hit me too hard since my last phone was nexus (and my next android phone will be nexus again). Was looking forward for AOSP and LAYERS to play with. Don't want to put extra salt on your wound, but shame we don't know each other , I would probably switch my mint condition Z3 to G3, just for change sake (and some custom ROM flashing sake), regardless of battery life of G3.
On the other hand, concept ROM rocks, I won't be getting back on L or stock Sony till it's M
When she said she were in a hurry you should've started to suspect that something was fishy. I would probably never by a used phone seeing how a lot of people treat their phones but if I did I'd certainly would back off if they tried to hurry me into buying/trading.
@DeHuMaNiZeD
I'm sorry for you too. But sometimes you can read from people mouth/face that something isnt okay...
Anyway if you remember their faces, you can talk with them and so on...
OP where did you get the contact info for the trade?
If it was in a page like Ebay, write a bad review and let us know his name, so we can spread out he's a cheater.
Sorry to hear that man...

Nah, it's a croatian trading site, he didn't have an account. Anyways, i swapped my Z3 for an OPO, and i couldn't be happier. The best phone i owned. With my xperia being with locked bootloader, this phone is like a miracle for me.
After almost 3 years, my good old Xperia SP fell hard and the glass screen protection broke.
I always had a silicon case, and it survived a lot of falls (even very hard ones, while biking etc.), but this time it fell screen first on a metal furniture corner. Incredibly, the phone still works fine (touchscreen works without problem, screen itself is not broken), but it is very hard to read due to the cracks.
I feel quite bad for having to replace my phone while it still works, but it's not really usable in this state, and the repair cost is too high for such an old phone.
So I will buy a new phone, and just wanted to say a big big THANK YOU to all the devs who dedicated so much of there time for our phone. I can't remember all there names, but @uberlaggydarwin gave our phone a great and much needed start, and more recently @Adrian DC gave our phone great CM versions (MM on Xperia SP is so great!), so this one goes out to you guys !
Thank you all, and keep coding !

Well, you can buy a new touchscreen for less than $10 free shipped from China (try ali****) and the installation process is relatively easy. At least that what I did when the digitizer of my XSP stopped working.
I'll use it as-is, but as a backup phone.
I used to to take my old dumbphone back out on some occasions, now I'll have my XSP for that.

R.I.P
Have had a Note 8 for about 2 months now (got it 20th Sept), and I've been fairly happy with it so far.
A few annoying things about it, let's start off with the screen. It looks fantastic, it's made by Samsung, why wouldn't it? The curve however, is something I've hated since the S7 edge, not a fan of it, completely useless. Can't even get a decent screen protector to stick on it because of the stupid curves.
Up next we have the software. It's great, very fluid, works very well, but I haven't received a single software update/security patch since the day I got the phone. We're still on the August patch, and haven't received anything newer.
Then there are the speakers. One word, garbage. They suck ass, I honestly think even the speakers on my S7 edge were better. You can try all you want to cup your hand around the speakers, but that doesn't help. There's also the placement of the headphone jack, I may be nitpicking a bit, but seriously having headphones plugged in while you're trying to watch something.... is impossible. It's so uncomfortable to hold and in such a stupid spot.
So for you XZ Premium owners, I've got a few questions:
1) I've been going through some battery life related posts, and they seem pretty good, but most of the screenshots are from when you guys were on Nougat. Has the battery life gotten worse/better since the Oreo update or has it remained the same?
2) How is the camera after the Oreo update? And was the distortion issue really that bad?
3) Is the phone uncomfortable to hold due to the large bezels and overall shape of the phone? Do keep in mind I'm coming from something with virtually no bezels at all.
4) Does the adb command to stay in 4K mode all the time still work on Oreo and does it revert after a reboot?
5) Substratum working fine on 8.0, anyone tried Swift Black?
Would appreciate all replies/answers.
Thanks

1) Battery life is improved. In nougat I was getting ~6.5 hours SoT. In Oreo I can get ~7.5 Hours SoT. But it depends on usage.
2) The camera is good, I'm quite pleased with it but when zooming on a picture it's grainy due to the post processing algorithms.. You can compare pictures taken with the Note 8 and XZP at GSMArena. The distortion was visible when taking pictures if objects with lines, and square shapes as well as a bit distortion on objects, nothing too crazy , but now it's much improved.
3) I never had a bezel-less phone, but the XZP is very comfortable to hold. The bezels aren't that bad. When I'm taking pictures with one hand, the bezels helps. Or when watching movies or gaming, it helps rest your fingers. Also the XZP has also a curved front glass, so finding a good screen protector might be hard.
4) and 5) Im sorry, I can't answer these because I don't use them.
Also the speakers on the XZP might not be the loudest, but produce excellent sound quality. And the fact that it has dual front firing speakers is very good for gaming, videos, music.
Software wise, there are monthly security updates along with bug fixes. Samsungs have more software features such as night light. But if you watch videos on YouTube, the XZP had some nice software features as well. Smart battery charging, Xperia Actions, etc.
The whole phone is super smooth and as fast as day one. The display is truly amazing. The black levels are impressive for an LCD display. There are 3 display modes to choose from ( SRG-B, Standard and Vivid).
@Lazaros_K
Thanks so much for answering the questions.
I actually forgot to ask about something you mentioned in your post.
Night Light. I've been using it since Samsung included it in the 7.0 update, it's not available on the XZP? Is there an alternative that works without root?

Unfortunately apps from the play store aren't as good as a native night light. Unfortunately Sony won't implement night light.

That kinda sucks.
You also mentioned the screen is curved, there are a few protectors on Amazon and a few local online websites in my country are selling normal tempered glass protectors for the XZP, so I guess it should stick fine?

I don't use any screen protector so I wouldn't know. There is a thread on screen protectors for the XZP here on XDA which might help you.

Just sharing what I know about XZP screen protectors (I might not be 100% correct):
- Tempered glass full coverage + full adhesive protectors do not exist other than the one that uses LOCA and UV curing as seen in this thread. The seller is in Singapore and they haven't announced plans to sell overseas yet.
- Other tempered glass options either do not have full coverage to the curved parts of the screen (ugly, IMHO) or do not have adhesive on the entire screen (which causes sensitivity problems). Some claim to have full adhesive but those don't have proper full coverage or have a weird dotted adhesive pattern.
- There don't seem to be any tempered glass protectors for the back.
- TPU based screen protectors are available for full coverage of front and back but are not as hard as tempered glass and might suffer from yellowing over time or have an orange peel effect (depending on brand).
- Regular PET film protectors are the cheapest of the lot and offer full coverage but these seem to come off the curved parts of the screen easily. They usually feel smoother than TPU ones though.
I am happy with battery life on my xz premium. It holds up well. Can't wait to get the update to try oreo out. Hope it improves the battery life further
Paid off?
Is your Note 8 paid off? May be willing for a trade I wanted a note 8 but needed a new phone before it came out so got the XZ Premium instead.

Already sold my Note 8 earlier today.
Got a chrome XZ Premium an hour ago.
Besides, I'm in Pakistan so shipping to you would be very difficult.

I think if you plan on installing a custom ROM, you'll have more development on the Note8. The XZP side is pretty barren in my opinion. My last phone was a Nexus phone, the custom kernels extended the SOT geatly.
I'd keep it IMO
I rooted my phone for the sole purpose of getting a night light similar mod on my phone. F.lux has issues with oreo, so I went with cf.lumen instead.
Battery life on Oreo is pretty much the same, maybe even a bit better for standby.
For the screen protectors, I got the skinomi. It's a TPU one. Great "self-healing" thing. Scratches and "impressions" do go away on its own after a day or two. I recommend getting that. Devilcase also has a nice TPU SP called "Luster", however it's self-healing thing doesn't really work well.
Basically I stopped looking for a screen protector for the phone. Where I live, we have this phone insurance thing that covers accidental damage + water damage. I'll just send it in if ever it breaks.
Enjoy your new XZP!

Not a fan of custom ROMs anymore. The XZPs stock ROM is good enough.
The Note 8 was also terrible with software updates.

Haven't gotten around to rooting yet, not sure if I will.
The lack of night light is a bit annoying but I'll just stick to using my other phone at night. Even the lowest brightness setting on this thing is really bright in the dark.
I also forked out extra for the insurance and accidental drops and whatever, cost me a sh*t ton but hopefully it's worth it.

Please before getting root keep in mind if you unlock your bootloader to getting root access then
1- all the DRM keys will be lost forever from your phone
and with lost of DRM keys these functions will stop for you. Bionz Engine for Low light photography, OTA updates, High Res Audio, Image & Video Enhancement
2- Lost your Warranty if you have
My suggestion is that do not unlock your bootloader until there is a method available here to backup TA Partition with DRM keys without root
Right now its not available
I am also from Lahore, and want to but XZ premium, from where you get yours and in which amount ?

I got mine from a store in Islamabad.
76k with official 1 year warranty from Inovi (Sony's partner in Pakistan).
You can get the imported one without warranty for around 65k (new) or around 45-50k (kit).

It's great. Stereo speakers, on-time software updates, a newer, faster quick charging standard, what's not to like? It even manages to give me better performance than the Note 8 which had 6 gigs of RAM.
Only thing I miss from the Note 8 would be the ridiculously quick camera. That thing focuses and takes the shot in the same time the camera app of this takes to open up. Not a deal breaker though. I really like this phone.
