Hi I am planning to flash a custom ROM to my Axon 7 (Chinesse version). I have been running stock so far and I am on the newest Android 8 update currently. But I am no longer satisfied, especially since I bought the daydream view headset and my version no longer supports it. So I have looked around a bit and am quite overwhelmed by the amount of available ROMs. Thats where you guys come in, help me pick a great ROM that satisfies the following conditions:
Working daydream.
Fully fledged and fully working Google Assistant.
Working all basic features(wifi, calls, sms, bt...) including NFC and hotspot. Minor bugs are ok, but it must serviceable and usable.
Working stereo speakers (Atmos if possible). This just means I want keep my loud and decent quality speakers. The internal Hi-Fi DAC does not need to work if this condition is met anyway. For music I use Jabra Elit Sport BT headphones and my jack is broken amyway.
Battery life, at least as good as on stock, preferably better.
Working camera for day time shots and videos(4k option and hdr+ option highly preffered, but no necessary). If the flash is not synced it is fine, but it needs to retain flashlight functionality.
HDR video and other Pixel functions (preferably snappatch support) - this is not vital, but very welcome.
At least Android 8 Oreo, preferably 9 Pie(but I can already tell this is probably just wishful thinking)[LIST1]
Overall I just want to make sure to install the best possible ROM, that will meet as many of the requirements listed and has further developement pitential.
BONUS: Is there anyway of unlocking additional 4g/LTE bands on my chinesse version (I dont think so, but asking just in case).
Any input is highly appreciated!
Also I am a bit of a noob when it comes to custom ROMs flashing, unlocking bootloaders etc., but I am a programmer by trade and can read guides and follow insteuctions so I dont anticipate many prolems in this regard. However tips and warning for more complex and convoluted procedures are welcome. Thank you!
My two favorites so far are Lineage and Remix.
Personally I think Lineage 16 (pie) is the best all round ROM at the moment (just my opinion)
I'm running pie on my Motorola at the moment, i haven't installed it on my Axon 7 yet because I soft bricked it and recovered it with an edl package.
I'm reading all the various bootstacks etc before I flash a custom ROM again. It will definitely be lineage 16 for me

Thanks for the reply, I will look into it more.
havoc os 8.1 plus schwifty kernel is very good. use the Havoc-OS-20180815-axon7-TREBLE.zip from NFound yourself.
which rom is still good is AEX .
but it's best to try the suggested roms yourself to find the rome that suits you best
Hi-Fi audio
How can one maintain the Hi-Fi DAC and Dolby Atmos on a custom ROM, and which ROMs are best for this?

Can't say really. There have been lots of discussions, tips, and tricks on that. Maybe check the thread below for some info...

I’m going to wait a little bit before doing my root. I had a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 recently die on me. I tried replacing the charging port and the battery but the thing was still dead. So I ordered an S5e. It should be arriving tomorrow. I’m just curious what everyone is doing with it now. I did a quick search and it looks like root is available now. But the instructions I found are outdated saying a recovery method (TWRP) wasn’t available but there was a news announcement saying it now was. So I’m kind of lost.
Like I said, I want to play around with it unmodded for a while before I root it. Just looking for a clear cut “best” way to go about doing it and seeing what the most recommended options are.
On my s10 I remember having TWRP as the recovery and Cyanogen was the OS.
Thanks!

I spent the whole weekend in my new s5e wifi edition, the truth as follows:
There are 4 ROMs for this tablet:
Original (shipped with Samsung ROM, Android 9) - Everything works fine, antutu v8 183k, but full of crapware from Samsung, suspicious apps and services, don't waste your time doing root on this ROM
LineageOS 16 (Android 9) - So far the best ROM at this moment, antutu v8 183k too, stable and HDMI issues too, but there is a workaround, (look my other HDMI problem thread)
LineageOS 17 (Android 10) - Trebuchet launcher crashing constantly, HDMI issues so I didn't test antutu because felt too unstable, so I gave up too
LuisROM - antutu v8 170k and HDMI issues too, so I gave up
I installed all the ROMs using TWRP, the root just works with magisk, the official LOS16 root su zip doesn't work. Once you have the TWRP installed you can just install the magisk .zip the same way you do with the ROMs, then the magisk manager will appear installed automatically where you can check the root status. Good luck!

Why not root the original rom and delete as much crapware as possible after root? That was my plan when my tab S5e will arrive.
You speak about TWRP but in this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s5e/how-to/galaxy-tab-s5e-sm-t720-root-t3947806 and that is the only decent one I could find, they explain that TWRP does not work on the Tab S5e because of changes Samsung made. Are yu saying that TWRP works?

Those posts are a reference, dont follow their procedures hoping that will work as they described... yes I AM using TWRP it works, get from their website "twrp-3.3.1-4-gts4lvwifi.img.tar" and "vbmeta.tar" then via ODIN, flash them, one each time, rebooting after the process. Once you have the TWRP installed, you can play around with any ROM and do the root as I explained before. I don't trust in a ROM full of crapware, its my point of view, cleaning based on tests you can never be sure if there is nothing left stealing your data or forcing updates or whatever samsung decides... so LOS is the way, clean, open-source, nothing to hide.

that is amazing news....I would love to try this out with my device and downloaded the files you suggested. I also found "PGP Signature vbmeta.tar.asc", do I need that too?
I have to admit that I have not much experiencing rooting...I only installed TWRP on my Samsung J5 phone years ago and after that I loaded another rom (I think lineage) on it. a stripped down version that offered more intern memory and that is still running smooth on my phone today.
So would it be possible to give me some more advice? Is it correct that I have to connect the S5e with Odin by booting it in download mode? And can you tell me where I have to load the files in Odin? Is it in the AP section?
And are there options I have to enable in Odin? (I heard something about a reboot option you have to enable or disable).
I hope you can help me with those questions. What model of tab are you using btw? Is it a 720 ?
Thanx in advance,
Jan

Hi,
I’d like to buy an LG V20.
But I’m not sure which one would be better among the two version VS995 or F800.
I will be using it as DAP only + apps, not as a calling phone.
Now I’m sure F800 got officially updated to Android 9, while I’m not sure about the VS995 which officially should only have android 8.
While on the contrary with LineageOs, the VS995 can go up to Android 10 with LineageOS 17.1.
I’d like to root it and have some good audiophile Rom installed on it or modules (viper4androids look exciting).
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
anyone?
The vs995 hopefully will eventually get 9 there is a big issue you do not realize thinking you can just put los 17.1 on it is that not everything is 100% supported.

From everything that has been reported none of the US variants will ever see official lg pie
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
Thanks! So probably better to go with the F800 version then!
Before you make your decision, be sure to read through some of the F800-specific threads such as the ones found here and here. Newer official updates tend to have some glitches/bugs or break older apps that could annoy you.
if F800 supports most or all of the cellular bands in your region, then i recommend F800 for the Pie update alone

Luckily YES...Lineage 17.1 does work on our phone!! I'm about to just give up on on findi ANY FORM of a Magisk root, I guess.

Hi Zaxx32 , thanks for putting this up for me.
True that regarding the pixel 4a. I am thinking of moving on to that or even if I could get a better deal on the 3a.
I am still thinking to try out these guides. Worse scenario, dead phone and a chance to buy a new one

Yes, that adds as a contributing factor. But I think it's still well-supported (at least for now).
Anyways, back to your original question. The first thing you need is to unlock the bootloader.
But before that:
1) Take a backup as everything will be erased during bootloader unlock.
2) Download and set up Android SDK platform-tools on your computer.
Omg...DJBhardwaj...do you know how to root the G7 via twrp + Magisk??

IMO, always be ready for a brick when dealing with such things for the first time. It's not like it's bound to happen, but it could. Especially with all the confusion because of all the different tutorials out there.
Rooting/TWRP/ROMs only deal with non-critical partitions, so even if it gets brick, you can easily recover.
LOL no, please. No need to compensate for anything. It's a public forum, and we all are here voluntarily.

Have you tried shifting to a custom kernel? Are all users of LOS 17.1 facing sudden hangs?
As for K-9, I believe it's more related to syncing issues. It could be that the K-9 app is not able to run background sync.
Zaxx32 as stated above by both me and DJBhardwaj the very best rather than PM, offsite links would be to go through any XDA related thread.
I understand you are looking for root on stock and not lineage and or any other roms.
If it is to regain privacy I still recom you simply go lineage and or other rom.
And if you still want to root on stock, then there is a high chance it won't work based on the -6 model you own. The best I would suggest is disable unwanted apps if unable to delete. Keep google to the bare minimum (do not sync them all). Use unrooted adblockers, set permissions accordingly and set custom dns under network settings.

I cannot speak for them all, but yes I too suspect kernal issue as the lineage is supported for my -6 model but I suppose not to a full 100%. Other than this, I am not facing any hard errors just sometimes random freezes for 2-3 seconds but to me it is bearable.
Hello XDA.
Ive spent a few hours now reading OP8P forums, and got some rough idea of what I'm getting my self into.
I bought a OP8P, its coming to me within next 10 days. I bought it brand new from T-Mobile in Croatia (Europe).
This is my first time owning a Oneplus, my current phone is Galaxy S7, before that i had an S5... On these two i got some experience with custom roms, rooting, flashing, twrp.... But i didnt do anything to my phone in the last 2 years, its been stagnant... and the knowledge i gained... well, if you don't use it, you lose it..
It always seemed that oneplus had great support in XDA community, but from all these threads I read in past few hours, i gathered some confusing conclusions.
What i expected when i made the purchase is that I would be able to have a stock up-to-date OxygenOS, with root (magisk), twrp, xposed, banking apps working, youtube vanced, photochrome camera...
But..... seems like i would have to go through a lot of trouble achieveing all of these things, deciding between OOS 10 vs 11, if they're even achievable with some of the knowledge i kept from my samsung days...
So here are a few questions i would like answers for...
1. When i get the phone and start it for the first time, am I going to be running OOS 10 until i manually upgrade?
2. Do you suggest I stay on OOS10 or upgrade to OOS11?
3. If i upgrade to OOS11, can I have any of the stuff i mentioned that i expected?
4. I saw some user saying if I decide to root, i should not be using modified/patched boot.img... Why is that? (btw i don't recall ever doing this back in day, would love some info about it...)
5. Is TWRP possible, whats the new META?
4. Is there anything else i should know before doing anything, also I wouldn't mind if you would explain all this to me like im five years old
Thanks in advance!
I'm a op8pro owner, and I have Magisk (22.0), and root without twrp (no recovery yet suported for android 11 on this device). You have to patch boot.img with Magisk. Not a big head ache.
Photocrom camera not working on 11 as before on android 10, and I tried two existing methods (it works, but no "X-ray" feature).
Since android 11 is in its stable release, new devices should come with it, but not sure.
All apps mentioned, Root and non Root are working just fine,
Thanks for replying.
Could you possibly link the guide which I should follow, and save me from something outdated, since I might not be rooting my OOS11 from inactive slot on OOS10
Thanks again!
