My Car - BMW E64 (convertible) CCC 2006 with AUX IN in the glovebox.
My Phone Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Android 11
My SatNav disk drive is failing, so I would like to replace > upgrade to Android Auto. Am capable of the install but would like some compatibility / fitness guidance as to what I have chosen
Custom Head unit
OBD2
DAB+
Rear Camera
TPMS
I welcome suggestions! Don't mind spending a bit more for any selection improvements.
Thanks!!

Suggest buying a genuine Android Auto device - listed here: https://www.android.com/intl/en_in/auto/compatibility/#compatibility-stereos
The "cheap" chinese sourced devices are not Android Auto, despite the claims.
Thanks Marchnz. Understand your reply, but want a custom 'in dash' replacement for the OEM display.
Don't mind reasonable expenditure say £500 max, but it is a 15 year old car.

Hi guys,
nice to meet you.
I've read a lot on this forum about Ownice C500 when I bought and installed this unit.
Now I am searching for the best unit for this car: Skoda Octavia 2 (year 2012).
What I am looking for:
- the best screen possible in an Android unit, at least 8'' diagonal (something to be visible under heavy sunlight would be ideal - don't know if possible);
- Dual Channel CAN-BUS communication - (the unit should display car events: door open, AC temperature settings, parking sensors information)
- as fast as possible (8 cores mandatory ?);
- 4G mobile network;
- DVD unit (I've seen this erases from the list all the 9'' units I found so far );
- good blue tooth phone calls (Is this even possible? )
- DVR camera;
- rear-view camera compatible with Skoda Octavia 2;
What I have currently on the short list
1. Uniway 2G+32G 2 din android car dvd
I cannot find any reviews about Uniway units.
++ Seems to have dual channel can-bus communication.
-- No 8 cores
-- 4G on extra dongle (is this reliable ?)
2. Ownice C500
++ I have used it before. I know it's stable, fast, reliable
++ 8 cores, 32GB ROM
++ 4G embeded - I know it works
-- Seems NOT to have dual channel can-bus communication.
If I have to recommend only one head unit, I would recommend XTRONS. I have recently replace my Skoda Octavia 2014 with XTRONS PST10CTS.
It has many useful features like DSP, Android 10, suports carautoplay, bluetooth.

My XTRONS Android 8 unit has been working without an issue for over 2 years now, it is one of the best radios i have bought from China, no lagging with the system, sound quality is much better than i expected. XTRONS customer is always helpful. Only thing i don't like is the Android version can't be upgraded, so i have to live with Android 8, the apps are still working though.
Just bought the PST10CTS for my Octavia 2014 as well with OBD2 Bluetooth dongle.
So far i've gotten it configured almost the way I want, with using a custom launcher (Nova launcher) to replace the built-in one and using Youtube Vanced as a media source.
I'm a bit confused as to how to connect the AUX/USB of the car to the radio and if it's at all possible to hook up a USB battery pack to the powerfeed, so that it can be on standby mode when the car is off.. faster to start also..
And does anyone have suggestions on how to route the GPS antenna cable to the dash or whats the recommendation where to put it?
Good morning!
I have a 2006 Toyota Yaris Hatchback, i know it is an old car (i'm in USA). it still have it factory stock Radio system. i'm looking to upgrade the radio with one that i can use CarPlay and i have the ability to download apps like on android hu... i was looking at the Joying HU but i don't know if it is a good option.
Also i would like to know what is your feedback for the zlink... does it stay up to date with the latest iOS?? i currently have iPhone X on 11.4.1 iOS 12 is coming soon so i don't want to buy a HU for $300 and not been able to use the CarPlay.
Any recommendations will be appreciate!!!
Well, first thing, is get a better phone. What you have is a "feature" phone made exclusively as a fashion statement for sheep.
Second, don't expect much from chinese radios.
I am using ATOTO HU. I noticed that they released a new product that can support carplay. Maybe you can check that: ATOTO AC-CPAA48 USB Smartphone Link Receiver Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G154X9R . But you may need to buy their HU firstly. Maybe this Adapter only compatible with their Adapter.
You can check Joying JY-TO138P4:https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-l...fj-cruiser-tundra-car-stereo-upgrade-4gb.html
It can support carplay
Hi,
I'm going to be buying a 2nd car (2013 VW Tiguan) but one thing I know I will miss from my current car is android auto. I have looked into various head units but the most cost effective head with a large display is an android head unit. The joying 10.1" looks good. I have a question about internet connectivity though. When I plug my phone in via USB does it automaticlly use that as a data source or do I have to set it as a hotspot for the unit? Equally can I use android auto on the head unit or do I have to use Google maps that's already installed and Google Play Music apps on the actually unit?
Many thanks
Some Android head units are Android Auto compatible. Look for that in the item description. If it doesn't say it is then assume it's not.
For me, I have to use my phone as a hotspot to get data connectivity.
My unit is not Android Auto compatible (Android 9). I get along with it ok but wish I had done more research prior to purchasing.

Hey all, buying a Double Din so that I can add a backup cam and navigation to my 01 corvette. Ive used a pioneer with Android Auto on another car in the past and I loved it in theory, but it was a bit buggy and slow. I also like the idea of hooking up an OBDII reader and putting some additional gauges up on the radio screen.
Current price is $269
Should I consider other options?
I was looking into the same unit, there are not many alternatives using the PX6 chip with a similar form factor. Seems like a good deal to me. However, while the lack of integrated CarPlay / AndroidAuto dongle is manageable, I don't understand why they would leave a DSP chip out of it
Good morning,
As the title says, I have been looking for the best android head unit for my car (VW GOLF MK7 2015 Right hand drive). I was looking at the below ones but I am not sure if they are the best in market.
TS10 7862
Android 10 Auto Qualcomm
My key factors for this upgrade are:
- Crisp sound (no cheap amplifiers)
- Android Auto (usb or wireless)
- >9" screen
- Generally fast as a device
- Wifi enabled (connecting to hotspot/usb from phone)
This is my first time doing such an upgrade and would like to know if I will be losing any features from my car if I will replace the factory head unit.
I attached my current unit for reference
Thank you so much for your time
