Heya guys, I've been rocking my OnePlus 2 for a while. I was wanting to install a newer ROM on it but I seem to run into some problems and I just can't figure it out.
I tried to install several roms (which are all based on 7.1 android) and I seem to be getting the same error on all of them: E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/crDroidAndroid-7.1-20161128-oneplus2.zip' This was when I tried the crDroid mod, of course. The only ones that seem to work are CM13 and OxygenOS 2.2.
Couldn't really find a good solution for this when I google'd. I tried carefully wiping what I had to but that didn't seem to help.
I also tried updating my recovery, but when I try to update my recovery it just freezes when I boot. I tried this using fastboot and or via TWRP. I'm currently using version 2.8.7.0 of TWRP because the lastest version of TWRP bricks my recovery. I've also tried the blue spark TWRP and TWRP-hybrid, they don't seem to work either, my phone just stays on the 1+ logo. I have to flash the old version of TWRP back onto it using fastboot to get a working recovery.
Anyone have a solution for me?
EDIT: I have a Chinese OnePlus2, the A2001.
EDIT2: Forgot to mention something that might be critical to the problem: I did update from OxygenOS 2.2.1 to the latest as of now, 3.1. This removed my TWRP recovery and I couldn't get the new one to work, which made me install 2.2.1 again. I've seen people mention some problems with 3.1 so this might be the cause of it?
Hey all, I've spent my entire night trying to get root on my new OnePlus 5 so that I can transfer all of my data from my Nexus 6p over through TitaniumBackup, but for some reason I am having weird issues.
I've followed Funk Wizard's guide on unlocking the bootloader and getting a custom recovery to root, but that's when weird things began to happen. I flawlessly was able to get TWRP running the first time through since it was similar setup to how I got everything working on my Nexus 6p. Once I tried booting back into the ROM though after flashing Magisk, the boot failed and rebooted back into recovery. This kept happening no matter what I tried to do. TWRP also was failing to flash the full Oxygen OS zips as well. I tried flashing stock recovery over TWRP to see if that would let me flash the zip, but then it stuck me back in TWRP afterwards despite overwriting it. I updated the TWRP to the "last latest build" which allowed me to flash the zip and boot back into my ROM successfully. However, then I tried going back into the recovery, it defaulted to the stock one again rather than the TWRP I had before. I reflashed TWRP but it keeps getting the stock OnePlus 5 recovery consistently. I am unsure of what to do. :\ I have to switch back to my old battery-failing phone for the time being. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Drivers work; manually forced the ADB driver for fastboot. Device just OTA'd to 4.5.3 a few moments ago; I am still getting the same issue. I also tried the latest TWRP but it still achieved no results whatsoever. All of my flashing is done through fastboot.
Hi I red your problem tho I am new here I successfuly rooted my OnePlus 5.
I think that the problem is either not using proper rooting zip's or bad drivers so I will tell you how I rooted mine.
I reccomend using this tool so you will be sure 100% that you have the ADB, Fastboot and necessary Drivers.

Those are the files that I used(The Magisk zip file and the recovery):
https://mega.nz/#!AA8FGLZR!63Q4HGrAoIlNlwR_NVj8Rbq4RKoPKaEnHLtHuEW3o94
I do not remember from where I downloaded them, neither I can find them from my messy history cuz I searched a lot for them around the internet, so I upload them for you!
Magisk link:

So basically I went to my phone's settings unlocked Developer options by spamming the build number so I can get there and enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging. After that I rebooted my phone into fastboot mode like I just normally turned it off and hold the power button and VOL+ key. after that I connected my OnePlus to the PC using the DASH cable. You should download beforehand the TRWP and latest Magisk.zip so you can root it using Magisk I have not tried using SuperSU. So you basucally flash the TWRP using the "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-oneplus5.img" command in my case and you transfer the Magisk Manager and zip file on the phone later so you can root. Then you just flash Magisk's latest zip file or use mine. I do not remember if I manually installed the Magisk Manager APK file tho I have it downloaded on my PC gonna zip them real quick with the recovery and uploade them.
Ok, why the f. did I get "installation failed" when installing OTA following this guide?
I followed the guide, I hit uninstall and "restore images" in magisk, it restored the stock image and when I tried running feb ota, I got "installation failed", why?
Also, why did my device get in a bootloop by just fully uninstalling magisk?
I had unlocked bootloader with systemless root, with no TWRP, never booted it, never flashed it, only fastboot commands I ran were oem unlock and boot patched_boot.img. I never touched system partition (on purpose), never installed anything other than a bunch of magisk modules, safetynet was always working, if it matters.
PSA FOR GOOGLE VISITORS:
Do not fully uninstall magisk after you get "installation failed", I got a bootloop and had to flash flash_all_except_storage.bat from mi a1 stock rom using miFlash (bottom right to select it, don't flash_all if you want your data).
Same thing happened with me... what exactly i done was...booted into patched boot.img using fastboot and after that used magisk manager and installed camera2api and just substratum.....but when i got notification of feb update... I tried to uninstall magisk manager using complete uninstall option....then restarted manually then it booted up and then suddenly shuts down and started showing a black screen with Android logo with (No command) written below it......to recover from this condition i again tried to use the same fastboot method for booting into patched boot... after which i was able to use my mobile.... normally but I'm not able to install feb update.... I'm downloading the complete stock rom.....but if there's any other method which can be efficient so plz inform....

Just like he said, yeah using Magisk means waving bye to OTA updates. This was the exact problem I faced where I installed Magisk module without TWRP for the joys of using substratum. Installating magisk won't taper your system, they said, you would still get the update, they said. Well NEWS FLASH for those, installing magisk tampers your system partitions and you are in a dreadlock situation where you can't do ****. People claim there are work arounds like you linked but no one has actually confirmed using it. And the worst part is that if you try to install the update even after uninstalling Magisk , it will still give you the error. How do I know? tried it, doesn't work. The only option which was left to me was to download the official Oreo ROM from MiUI global and flash it using MiFlash.
Flashing the boot.img from stock rom might solve the problem. If not, flash the stock rom using MiFlash with save user data option.

Does the 'save user data'-option also preserve the apps installed?
Thanks!

Yes it saves all user data including settings, apps and app data
I had the same issue. I used the tool linked below and the steps:
- Unlock Bootloader
- Flash Stock ROM
- Download ROM (and wait for that to happen)
- Keep UserData (and wait again)
- Lock Bootloader
After that I was able to install the update, then re-install Magisk and camera tweaks.

The guide mention in OP had worked for me for at least 3 updates including the major one from nougat to oreo with any issue. Be aware that mounting system partition as read AND WRITE brakes OTA. You don't even need to change anything just mounting it will brake it. That could easily happen using a root file explorer or a hosts file based add blocker if Magisk is not properly set (systemless hosts support toggle in Magisk settings).
Hi,
I have a problem on my phone (Asus Zenfone 2 Laser running on rooted android 6) : I can't turn wifi on, when i click on the wifi button it does absolutely nothing...
It happened when I updated from magisk 16 to magisk 17, I got bootlooped due to a bug, after this I flashed the uninstall magisk zip and I flashed magisk 16 again, and it happened at this moment.
I already tried :
Updating to magisk 17.1 (the fixed version)
Power cycling my phone
Restoring a rootless save
(I try to avoid the factory reset but if there's no other solutions I'll do it.)
Need help for reflashing kernel

Hi again,
Update : I learnt on the magisk wiki that this issue can be solved by reflashing the kernel.
So if anyone can help me to reflash my actual kernel/a new one compatible with my ze500kl, aka Zenfone 2 laser. (My actual kernel is "3.10.49-perf-gcb6a1aa")
Thanks in advance !
Hi again,
I tried to flash the image of my original firmware's zip (found in this zip from the official Asus website)
http: //prntscr.com/kpoq3d
My phone booted normally but I still can't turn the wifi on...
Afterwards I tried to flash the firmeware's zip from twrp, wich didn't worked.
(I also tried to sideload via ADB, wich didn't worked too.)
Hello,
I'm trying to root my wife's device (downloaded November fastboot zip - Oreo 8.1) and patched image using Magisk. Everything is working fine except the VoLTE. ( She is using JIO.)
If I revert back to stock boot.img, then VoLTE works fine without issue. Am I missing something ? I'm sorry if this was already asked and discussed.
Thanks.
Answer: It's my own creation Seems like certs are getting downloaded during boot and If you have enabled "startup leak" with magisk, disable it. It should work !
