2 questions: you're certain you can't boot into recovery? Can you tell me any specifics about the kernel (name/date/etc)?

Go to sammobile.com. you can find stock firmware there. You have to register but it's free. You'll download a zip file, use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from it. Use that in Odin.

Use mdl. Odin is a separate program and is not us or Canada. Read this guide and use the tar.md5 for your device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26056924
Take your time and read the guide more than once. You can permanently brick your device.

When you use Odin, let it do its thing. It'll take 10 to 20 minutes. Don't panic in the middle and unplug the usb. Be patient. And make sure you use the file you're downloading from sammobile. Don't use any of the links in the guide, except Odin. The other files are not for your device and they will brick you.

Did you have "repartition" checked in ODIN? Because if you did, you shouldn't have.
If not, try to get into recovery (if you can) and try a factory reset.

For some reason my recovery wont work? maybe thats it? all i know is my recovery wont boot, and i flashed a bad kernel. I have my twrp backup on my external sd
Also... all i had checked was auto reboot and f. reset time. I flashed the reset file with pda box checked.
forgot to add. i flashed the file with those two boxes checked and it said pass. I think it must be the kernel or the recovery? how do you flash these in odin? I bet if i can track down the stock kernel and get twrp again it may boot.

If you are positive you can not get into 3e recovery, you might want to go to the OUDHS CWM thread in the development section and look at the OP for a method to install that recovery via ADB shell. If you can get it installed, you can then flash another ROM to get up and running. Then, if you desire, you can use GooManager to put TWRP back on your phone and restore a working Nandroid you might have. Or you can just set things up from scratch. But all of this is only if you can get into recovery or get a recovery installed back onto your phone.
If you tried to install the wrong Kernel for your phone, you might be hard bricked, in which case Jtag might be your only hope.

I hope you get it figured out. But let me tell you what I DID and had the same outcome with NO RECOVERY at all, black screen with vibrate only. So what your describing sounds EXACTLY what happened to mine.
So I was "TRYING" to make a custom splash screen as I had for my SGS3. (Which messed with the kernel). When I went to boot up after the flash it did the black screen with vibrate.
I COULD get into DOWNOIAD mode but not recovery at all. I tried for a few days. I was worried my battery would be getting low after trying for a few hours. I tried to plug it in and the battery came up but it acted like it was stuck and nothing would happen.
Next I tried to use Odin to flash back to MDL stock firmware. It would flash and said completed. But upon reboot same half/vibrate screen.
Next I tried MDB firmware. STILL a NO GO. I had to send it in for JTAG. I think they had some issues getting it working as well. It arrived on a Thursday, and they did not finish getting it to where their site showed it was completed for 8 days. Then it didn't get sent out for another day. It finally arrived at my house 10 days after they received it. But GLADLY they were able to fix it. So good luck to you. If you do have to resort to JTAG it cost me a total of $90, Almost $30 dollars for me to TWO DAY it to them. $60 for JTAG and rush delivery.

Sorry to hear Odin didn't work. Odin does put the stock recovery on your phone in the correct partition if every thing goes correctly. But if your hard bricked Odin won't recovery the phone.
Try what Scott suggested but it's looking like jtag may be your best option at this point.

hell yeah this phone is hard bricked. But att was cool and let me return for a new one. Really no questions asked as long as you didnt damage it or get it wet. Rip to my first gs4. But the good thing is is that it should only take like 2 days to get a new one, because the first one shipped pretty quick. Thanks for all the help guys
I have searched and searched and cannot find any fix for my issue hopefully I can get the help here like always.
Last night I flashed ktoonz kernel like I have a thousand times before and it failed in TWRP recovery, I thought nothing of it, hit reboot, and am now at a brick wall. My Gs4 acts like the Gs2 with a stuck power button, upon powering it on, it goes straight into a loop vibrating every few seconds over and over, I can't get into recovery mode and for that matter can't even get the the initial Samsung splash screen to pop up. The only thing I can do with the phone is boot into download mode, I tried restoring several times with Heimdall on my Mac and always failed when the system reached 100%, it wouldn't move past that point. I have also just finished flashing it with Odin on a friends Windows laptop which completed successfully each time but the phone is still doing the same thing. I need help, I can't afford a replacement right now and am just a little desperate!

Odin and Heimdall don't have any options to RESTORE anything.
Both those utilities can only do one thing, they can flash firmware
TAR files. (and any other valid TAR files)
My advice to you is to simply go to SamMobile.com and download
the specific odin flash firmware for your phone model and country.
Here is an example of what you will find at SamMobile: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/
Good luck!

I would keep trying Odin. Try different usb ports, don't use hub. Make sure you have the original usb cord. If it can get into download mode there's hope.
I tried flashing through Odin a few more times today with no luck, even tried to repartition with a .pit file and that failed. I think my phone is just screwed.

Actually, I had the same exact problem when I flashed KTkernel to my S4 a while back. At first I tried Odin, and it said flash was successful, but still no recovery mode or any screen.
I actually used KIES, either firmware recovery or firmware update. And that solved it. The phone boot up normally after KIES.

How exactly were you able to do this? Kies doesn't recognize the phone in download mode.
Make sure your KIES is up to date, and it should recognize the phone.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working for me, either. Kies is not recognizing my phone in emergency firmware recovery on OS X or Windows.
See if you can find help making kies to recognize your device. I think you should be able to since you used Odin.
Have you tried to Odin on a windows instead of a mac.

Same problem. I tried flashing Ktweaker, install failed, and now the phone just vibrates every few seconds.
I have tried installing the PIT file, as well as the original firmware. Trying to reinstall the recovery ends with a "Fail" message.
Totally stumped.
I scheduled a repair with Samsung. Mines boxed up ready to go, just haven't sent it off yet. I gave up trying to fix it and went back to my iphone.

Hi,
I want to flash new modem for my phone but since I got the new bootloader it doesnt work anymore for flashing with mobile odin
I got the error message: "memory protection in place, skipping flash" after my phone reboots and mobile odin is trying to flash it.
Now... that sucks as with pc odin it just doesnt work, tried it dozens of times with different versions
I hope someone knows a workaway around this as the current modem is bad signal
grtz! jody
You can also use Heimdall to flash the modem you want.
Odin should just work though.

After a major **** up, My SM-N900 doesn't boot past the Galaxy note 3 splash screen, has no access to the recovery and Odin gets stuck on "initializing..." on every flash.
I tried with the PIT file and without. I tried flashing only TWRP, and I tried the procedures on different PCs with different USB cables, but I always end up with the same result from Odin 1.85, 3.07 and 3.09.
What should I do?

Try a different cable or usb socket... and make sure you have the exact rom for your exact model and country/region.
Sammymobile has the odin instructions to follow when you download their roms.
Good luck!

I should point out that it's my friend's phone and he tried a factory reset through TWRP on stock TW lollipop after restoring it from a nandroid backup. I suggested reinstalling the original firmware and repartitioning instead, but... Here we are...
UPDATE: We've just been over to Samsung. They said that the phone needs a new board and since the device's warranty is long gone, it'll cost me quite a lot to replace it here in Jordan.
So my question now is: Where can I buy the board online? I found it on Aliexpress for 126$ but it'll take a month to ship....

Again how long did you wait? The AP file is a large file that takes time to load. Sometimes Odin will say not responding and the loading circle seems to just continue.
