G930V 8.0 Downgrade? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

I have seen some discouraging posts regarding rooting the S7 on 8.0, but can It, and it's bootloader, be downgraded by Odin-flashing a 7.0 firmware?

Root Sm-G930P on Android 7.0 (N) PLN

Hello,
I am running an SM-G930P with Nougat PLN firmware. I downgraded it to PK1 Marshmallow firmware to root it, and used this root method: https://idoneapps.com/forum/index.php?topic=616.0
It worked perfectly. However, when I tried to use the Nougat update file, it said it was corrupt. When I tried to root it in Nougat, it began bootlooping. Is there any way to root it in Nougat? All I need to really know is how to install TWRP.

There's not a way to root on Nougat yet, especially since it's on a beta firmware. TWRP isn't available on U.S Snapdragon Galaxy S7's as our bootloaders are locked.

What if I downgrade to Android 6.0.1 PL6 firmware, download the firmware file and flash it via FlashFire?

You'd want to downgrade to PL6 and the flash the unlocked PL2 to root, but TWRP still isn't possible.
as many have said. ZERO TWRP UNTIL BOOTLOADER GETS UNLOCKED (which probably won't happen) /thread closed

Planning to buy G935W8, had a few questions

Looking to buy this phone soon but I was just wondering about a few things. Im buying the canadian variant G935W8.
1. Can this device be rooted on nougat as well or only marshmallow? Im buying it brand new so I think it will probably be running the latest firmware.
2. Is there any issues with unlocking the bootloader? Is it neccesary to do so if you want root and custom roms?
the bootloader is not locked on the w8 as its the exynos variant and yes nougat can be rooted its the same as 935f

Thanks. Also another question I had. If the phone comes with marshmallow and I root it will I be able to install nougat roms directly or will I have to update the bootloader and modem? In that case would it be better to update it to nougat first and then root?
Updating your phone would cause you to lose root anyways as the file structure on nougat is completely different then marshmellow.
Rooting also prevents OTA updates, so you would end up having to install nougat manually.
I suggest you upgrade your software then root it. You can use systemless root from magisk. Using TWRP just flash the latest magisk file and you are rooted. The file will automatically root your phone as part of the installation process.

If you get it with MM (highly unlikely) just don't do anything and you should get an OTA notification otherwise you can download Odin, google it as I don't have a link and nougat from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767144483 and you can flash it yourself now rooting is a little different then it used to be do a search on the s7 edge for the info on that
the reason is yes you will need to download the BL not sure about modem but you might as well do it too
I just rooted my G935W8 running 7.0 by following the instructions in the first half of this video.

Unless you have a Chinese variant, you cannot unlocked Snapdragon bootloaders on the S7.
I've went back and forth between Nougat-MM several times. You can't go back earlier than PH1 due to the bootloader being locked, but that gives you the choice of 2 MM firmwares, PH1 and PI3.
Can anyone point me to directions on how to roll back to Marshmallow?

That has the resources you are looking for. Just grab either the PH1 or PI3 firmware and then do a normal Odin flash. You will be downgraded to stock MM.

i just did this in my s7 edge for verizon. Tried to flash the unlocked firmware and it failed. It woudlnt' boot afterwards. (it was first on 6.0.1). I then accidentally flashed a nougat stock rom. After this, I flashed a verizon 6.x.x fimrware and then the tmobile firmware. ALl through ODIN of course. I thikn as long as it works through ODIN, you are fine. It may take a lot of trial and error though

Marshmallow vs Nougat

Hey guys,
I'm about to start rooting my S7 this weekend. It's been at least a year or more since I rooted my 2nd S5. Just a few questions.
Does Marshmallow have the same lag issues as nougat on the S7?
If not, I am going to roll back my QA4 to stock before I root.
How do I determine exactly which firmware came stock on this phone? And any problems with installing and running Xposed on Marshmallow S7?
Thank you all. I love XDA!

I think you can't go back to mm after upgrading to 7.0 but not 100% sure

You can't roll back to marsmallow if you update to nougat its imposible cause the bootloader its updated. for the moment you can't downgrade a firmware cause the bootloader its locked.
Ok thank you each for the reply

Downgrading From Oreo to Nougat for Root?

Hi, I'm trying to root my G950U1 (v5BL) running 8.0.0. I understand that Oreo, as it stands is unrootable. However I've seen multiple post explaining how a downgrade to Nougat can be done through Odin. Although, no one every mentions this when someone asks if they can root their Oreo S8.
Wouldn't an easy workaround be to downgrade to Nougat then root using this method?

Am I missing something here?

The nougat kernel we need for rooting from Samsung is only in a nougat form. The Oreo kernels are not permissive. The combination file we use for rooting is for every bootloader version the kernel we use for rooting is in the combination file. Which again is nougat.
