I brought an unlocked LG G6 to Verizon store today to get it activated and they were unable to do this. It appears I have 3 options:
1. Return device to bhphotovideo.com. Not sure what their return policy is.
2. Switch from Verizon to T-Mobile. Live in Silicon Valley close to San Jose, California. Their network is probably fine here.
3. Get an imei from an Android device with nano sim. The Verizon tech person said if I had a friend or family member with this they could get the unlocked G6 working on Verizon. Trouble is that I do not know anyone with an Android phone with nano sim. My old G4 used micro sim. The friends and family members have either iPhones or older Androids with micro sim.
So I could really use some advice here.
And in addition let this be a warning to anyone trying to get unlocked devices working on Verizon. I had read elsewhere that Verizon was now more friendly towards unlocked devices, but this was clearly not the case in my experience. Perhaps this is one reason Verizon is starting to lose customers for the first time in its history.
Cut your old micro sim to nano size put it in the G6 and fire it up. Then your new G6 will work and be in the Verizon data base.
Than sometime go in to Verizon and get a new nano sim. I have been down this road with unlocked phones and its not LG it is Verizon.
If you want to use the old G4 again you need a nano to micro adaptor.
I am using the US997 G6 from BH right now but my old phone used the nano sim so I just had to swap it out. Works perfect so long as you start with a Verizon sim that is already activated.
Earlier this week I activated a new SIM/device with my ancient Galaxy S3 IMEI and verizon sent me a 3-in-1 card that I punched down to the nano size cutout. Which allowed me to put my US997 on the network.
By the way, can you share if VoLTE, WiFi Calling or Video Calling work?

I would like to know the same thing! Thanks
I got this phone all I did was take my sim out of my iphone put it in the g6 and boom it works. Verizon has no idea I have this phone. Lol
Update: got the LG G6 working on Verizon after all. We had to make sure the LG G4 is powered down in order for the activation to complete since the G6 was replacing the G4 on Verizon. And boy do I feel like an idiot for not knowing that. Surprising most of the Verizon staff did not suggest to do this.
I received mine and activated it yesterday. VoLTE works perfectly. No Video/WiFi Calling though. I love this phone! No bloatware!

Are there any other differences between the US997 model and the Verizon VS988, other than lacking wifi calling? (I don't know anyone who actually uses verizon video calling, iphone people use facetime, and as android user I'd always just use duo, hangouts or skype)
How do you tst if VoLTE is working?
I'm also curious about this process. I've done a lot of searching, but haven't been able to find a direct answer yet.
I'm considering buying a Sprint G6, then unlocking it to use it on Verizon. Is this even possible? Obviously, they're both CDMA. And appear to have the bands necessary for Verizon. But I've had trouble in the past with unlocking Sprint devices to work on Verizon.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

VoLTE worked out the box for me on Verizon. I just inserted my SIM and checked, and it was enabled. WiFi calling does not work on most unlocked phones, and the US997 unlocked edition is no different here. Video calling through the carrier does not work either.

That's great news that you got most of the functionality working, OP. Do you happen to know if the phone was factory unlocked? Or was it tied to a carrier, then unlocked afterward? Again, thanks for any additional info!

Unlikely to work. Stick with the unlocked version, model us997. Keep in mind Verizon sometimes blocks phones from their network that have the necessary hardware, like the ZTE Axon 7.

If you want OOB compatibility, the device must be certified through Verizon's Open Development process. See below.

OOB???
Axon 7 is just like Moto X Pure or this us997. They are unlocked with Verizon's bands. Stick an activated sim in them and they will work.

This is old. And only one build. I went through that. They fixed it right away. I had the phone since launch. MM was great out of the box, 7.0 had a hiccup with service, GSM sim after the update fixed it on 1st boot, then you could put your CDMA sim back in.
If you buy the device now, the 7.1.1 build will work out of the box.
If you look through the zte forums people have had a lot of problems getting the Axon 7 to work with Verizon. Anyway, I am glad to hear you got it working all right. I like the Axon 7 a lot but was not willing to go through the extra effort that others reported to get it working. And some people could not get it working at all, not a risk I was willing to take. I blame Verizon, I do not think they are supportive of unlocked phones.
Hello, I'm a bit new to all this, so please bear with me if I sound a bit out of the know. I currently have a SM-G935V, from Verizon of course, but I recently switched to AT&T as they have better service for me, however, the best connection I seem to get at the moment is H+ (it switches from 3G to H and H+ but I know for a fact that there is 4G LTE in my area). Not sure exactly what to do in order to get consistent 4G LTE. I have called to troubleshoot with technical support; we set up a few APN's, but to no avail. Would flashing the SM-G935U firmware help me at all, or am I doomed from the start since I have the Verizon variant (they claim that all of their LTE phones are unlocked)? Also, I heard that for the US version of the phone they will not let you flash anything on them. Is that true? Thanks for any help or advice in advance, I greatly appreciate it!

I'm not 100% sure AT&T is included but you can try following the instructions and flashing Jrkruse's U Firmware ROM here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/development/rom-t3603231

Thanks! Just an update for anyone who reads this thread having the same problem. Flashing the U firmware did in fact do the trick, but sadly I am not getting HD calling. Data works on LTE just fine though.
I have a Verizon V20 and would like to move to one of the discount providers. It looks like I'm better off with a GSM phone or possibly the international version.
My must have requirement for a 3rd party provider is being able to provide hot spot connectivity for my laptop and tablet. I would also want a rootable phone.
If anyone has gone down this path, I'd appreciate any feedback to help me with my decision.
Thanks in advance...

You could go with straight talk and select the Verizon network, and keep your V20

On the straight talk website, it says my phone is not compatible with their network. I spoke with them and the LG V20 doesn't work on their network.
Total newbie right here...but.
I have a US-780 LG F7. Although in the "About Phone" it says it is a "AS-780". I believe it has a 14 digit IMEI. I believe it was US Cellular. Is there any way to unlock it to use this phone with AT&T or other carrier? If there is not is it possible to modify the OS to force it? I have seen a thread or two about this on other models, and it turns out they had some luck doing something and getting their phone to work. I am curious because it would be nice. I bought an AT&T sim and prepaid plan and would like to not have to buy a phone again so soon.
Regards.
PS, if there is any methods to follow for this action, could you please provide me with some step by steps or links?
Thanks.
I have an unlocked One Plus 8 pro and verizon and my area now has nationwide 5g. I don't see it though as it still shows LTE. I know this phone doesn't support the UW and we don't have that yet anyway. How can I tell if this is on 5G or is there a way to force it? I read they use band 71 and this phone does support that and my account is setup for 5G.
Anybody?
I guess beta 3 added what we needed for it cause now it shows this on dialer code *#*#4636#*#. Also in setting - sim we got this. So I'll say yeah we got it now. Please my data speed greatly improved over beta 2 with Verizon.
I can get to it via the dialer and manually select it but still no nationwide 5G on Verizon. One Plus says it's Verizon and Verizon says it's the device.
I tried to put it just on NR setting but no go for service were I live. But I'll be heading to the city area on Thursday and I'll try it again with speed tests to see. Verizon has been playing with the towers in my town, not sure if it's the 5G convertion or just plan work but like I said before, my speed test have gone up. I've been getting LTE+ on my phone when I wasn't getting it before the new beta update.

still no nationwide on VZW?
btw, nice username
Nope I am pretty sure all verizon has to do is allow the IMEI but their not that smart or they want you to buy their locked phones

I'm not in America but from what I've read, Verizon have tried to monopolize certain aspects of 5G over there, I think with the device that they provide vs any other.
Tbh though if you've got the international device then it should absolutely work, to prove its 5G capable, test it with a friend's 5G SIM, I'm sure it'll work.. Take some screen shots with it in action then you can point your finger firmly at Verizon and tell them it's on them..also you could try your SIM in another 5G capable phone then that's the last piece of the puzzle, you're phone's capable, their SIMs capable, what's the issue?
If it still doesn't provide 5G in yet another phone then it's their network mate.
If you didn't get your phone from them (international version) then swerve them altogether, I wouldn't pay for something that I wasn't getting, I'd want a nice big discount at the very least.
Did *#*#4636#*#* show the technology available?
Yes if I go to phone information NR is there and with a T-Mobile SIM it did get 5G. This is the unlocked version directly from One Plus.
Are you on the US variant or the International variant of the device?

I followed the instructions from someone on that link. Was able to get 5G.
