So if I did that, could I then take my physical sim card and put it in my S21+ and have service to both phones with the same number?

No, once you convert existing physical SIM into eSIM, your old physical SIM will no longer get service. If you want service on two separate SIMs with same number, Tmobile offers data with paired digit plan for that purpose.
This eSIM conversion allows you to have one empty physical SIM slot in your phone so you can use another carrier's SIM in your phone.

I have paired digits on my watch. I work for T-Mobile and saw a message about eSIM for the Note20 and Note20 Ultra when I logged in today but didn't have time to read it.
I still wish we would have gotten the April Security Patch like the S21+ did.

Yes, would have been nice but updates have been coming out regularly of late so hopefully this was just one off.

Thanks, I've been here since the HTC HD2 days, which was the first first phone I ever did anything with which was to be able to dual boot Windows Phone 7 and Android. Quit rooting stuff a few years ago after my V10 bricked itself while I was watching Netflix and I didn't feel the need to anymore and just don't have the time. The last few years I haven't said much, I've been more of an observer. I still do minor things like use ADB to move or hide the status bar and stuff like that. But pretty much run stock on both my phones.

Those were the days! HTC with their fastboot bootloaders. I have also stopped rooting, as I like Samsung UI but do miss Viper4android and Nandroid/Titanium backup as Google still hasn't provided a proper backup solution sadly... Now that there is eSIM makes this more complete of a phone.
So is this confirmed to be able to use 2 lines, 1 esim and another T-Mobile sim?
Or is it just converting your sim to esim for no real benefit?
From what we've seen, T-Mobile variants only have 1 imei listed.
I'd the device is locked to t-mobile, how can you use another carrier in the other sim? Would need to get it unlocked.
Will unlocked version of Note 20 Ultra get this update with eSim support on Tmobile?

From what I understand, unlocked will not get the update for the eSim option. I could be wrong but that is how I understood it.
So in theory can I swap to an e-sim from Tmobile and then put another sim in from Europe when I travel?

I suppose if I flash build N986USQU2DUC8 using modded odin, I'd be able to access the
e-sim/dual sim feature by effectively morphing my factory unlocked handset (SM-N986U1) into the carrier-bound equivalent (SM-N986U).
I have to admit, I might give this a shot as I stand to gain something here, not necessarily lose! Sure, I'll pick-up a little carrier bloat, maybe a half-a-dozen apps in the switch, but that's it!?
It's a bold move, but a smart one, for T-mobile! When you pair that one with their recent commitment to Google for integrating the Google Messages app into their (Android-based)) system app line-up for new device offerings. They recognize the value of the upgrade to RCS messaging and what comes with that, for existing and new tmobile customers alike.
Sure, It'd be easier if this e-sim/dual sim feature was included in the SM-N986U1 OTA March Security Patch Update for the unlocked users, but their heart is in the right place and with their core users (SM-N986U) I suppose?
(I'm gonna give it a shot over the weekend...I'll be back!)

I ordered the 6t from T-Mobile website and will have the phone next week.
Would really like to see what we can get with the dual SIM difference. Is it just the SIM holder that's restricting the dual SIM or is the actual circuitry different.
If it's just the holder, then flashing the global room for the 6t should enable the dual SIM functionality.

From what's been said by others (And confirming myself with the T-Mo model in hand), there is only one IMEI number assigned to the phone, and thus I doubt the dual sim functionality can be made to work at all.

Also... As some mentioned in the other thread... We can't flash the global ROM on the tmobile device.. There's some specifics to the modem that can't be changed.
Dual SIM might be an issue but custom rooms/ports based on then global version will not be an issue at all once bootloaders are unlocked after the first month.

Can someone with the 6 see if the dual sim tray will fit the 6t and pop in two Sims that work on the T-mobile network? This worked with other phones with single imei so it might work here too...

You should be able to flash the unlocked version of OOS once your device is unlocked from T-Mobile
We should be able to but the official line atm is that due to modem specific changes the global version cannot be flashed on to the tmo variant..also due to this the tmo variant won't be included in the Oxygen is beta releases..lastly ppl are saying that the tmo variant doesn't have a secondary imei for the 2nd SIM slot that is disabled/not present..in order to confirm any of this we need a tmo variant bootloader unlocked..we likely won't see any developments till the 2nd month of the phones release.

You're phone is SIM unlocked from T-Mobile..to unlock the bootloader u need to request a token unlock from one plus before u can experiment..which they say will be sent after requesting in 7 days..or did OnePlus already send u the bootloader unlock token. SIM unlock is simply one requirement in order to request the bootloader unlock.

What about the the new 600Mhz crappy spectrum (Band 71) on Note 9 is a joke not FULL LTE only 4G and like -500db this is absurd so I need to know if the T-Mobile version is only software (modem) or the change something to the CPU or wait to someone extract the modem of the T-Mobile version and flash it to the Global Dual Sim and done.

Without knowing location I can easily assume that:
1.) -500dB means you are stupid far from a tower that's using said band
2.) ...because you're so far from said tower you will not get optimal speeds

Use the app Cell Mapper & look on your desktop PC for the site with the same name.
It'll give you a look at where each band is deployed.
Band 71 is still sparsely in use, I'm guessing less than 10% of all T-Mobile towers have it

I already use few ones to check it. right now I using OP 5T with T-Mobile and Att (dual sim) honestly with T-Mobile got few hiccups on the road here and there I do test with both but the Att Signal is strong all the way I ever go with T-Mobile I got HD Voice and voLTE (no need buy the phone from theirs the services are SIM Card provided) but Att have it if you bought a branded phone from theirs.
I will wait few months more I don’t think T-Mobile will stand near Att yet.
I called Customer service and told them I bought the phone cash from T-Mobile store and it doesn't make sense to put me on a 40 day hold to unlock, I own the phone outright. I asked was there any way to override the 40 day policy because I travel and sure enough she bypassed the policy and told me I will have to do a factory reset. I factory reset and open the unlock app and tap the permanent unlock option and boom it unlocked and the app disappeared.

There ya go,good point. :good: (Admittedly,I didn't consider that either,THX for bringing it up).
If there is no "buried" IMEI (doubtful,at best),even if the hardware is there (less the SIM Card holder for T-Mobile models),it's not just gonna magically generate one.
Before anyone gets the idea of "putting" an existing one on there (if even possible) that discussion is off limits here @ XDA.................
I'm guessing that the special modem for TMobile variants is disabling the second SIM slot or the variant simply is different hardware then.

If u have the right tools u may be able to write an imei to the efs partition however that would be highly illegal..I don't hold out much hope that the tmo variant is dual SIM.. as OnePlus has stated that tmo specifically chose a different variant sadly..I will be happy with unlocked bl and custom roms tho after this first month..when I need dual SIM I'll just use my XS Max.

That sounds more like a "won't" than a can't.
TBH,I've heard that term (backend) used a few times recently & have no idea what it really means in this context, other than just what it sounds like, they won't sell it.
I bet it's just a canned response w/no real reason other than T-Mobile & the other carriers would rather sell us two single-SIM phones vs one dual-SIM phone.
I tried and they said I couldn't until the buyer remorse period is over.
Edit -
Contacted Tmo via Twitter and they did it no problems!
Apple is having a hard time getting carriers to support dual SIM capability and this will be more difficult after the merger as control of the wireless market will be further concentrated. They are easily the most influential supporters of dual SIM capabilities in the States, lets hope they maintain that support and are joined by others that could benefit from taking back some control of the wireless market because it helps check abuses by our wireless oligopoly. Folks will do what they want but I'd carefully consider buying the Tmo version if dual SIM was something I wanted. Burned myself thinking something would come that never did more than once. I do think it's a good possibility but I use dual SIM now so wasn't taking a chance.

T-Mobile DIGITS helps, but, it's not exactly the same. (Still only one SIM for data).
Otherwise, I'd stayed away. Been using Dual SIM phones more often than not over the past five years, since I left Sprint for T-Mobile (the sheer variety of BYOD/Dual SIM was the main reason, let alone better service).

Still sounds like they're making it out to be more expensive/labor intensive than it actually is.
If BYOD Dual-SIM phones can operate on their networks,it would stand to reason it would take little to no effort for the carriers to sell dual SIM models.
Not being disagreeable,my beef is w/the US carriers,it's nonsense.

Yes dual SIM devices work because TMobile sees it as 1 IMEI for each line. But if they sell a dual SIM phone then they have two IMEI numbers per phone in thier system. I'm guessing the iPhone works a bit different since one is virtual
Read one review that said you can't use Dual SIM in the USA right now? Anyone know if that's true and an ETA/or if It'll eventually come? Can't use my 7Pro with Dual Sim because my work verizon account won't let me switch to "CDMA Less" so when I saw the 8Pro supports CDMA I was excited.........then I read that.
Anyone have any more info?

I'm wondering the same thing. I want to order the unlocked OP8 pro from OP's website tomorrow but if the dual sim is disabled, there's no way to know when they are going to update it to enable dual sim. I want to dual sim out of the box, otherwise it's useless for me. My OP7 currently has two sims in it.
If you buy the carrier versions of this then no you will not have dual SIM, however if you get the unlocked version from OP themselves then you will be able to use dual SIM. Or at least this is how all previous versions have worked. Only caveat I would think is if you are a Verizon customer as I think they need the specific Verizon version.

I am on Verizon but if I wanted 5G, then I need to get the 5G VZW UWB version, is that right? But the only caveat is that they don't offer the Pro with VWZ 5G and only the standard OP8?
My understanding, and maybe I am mistaken, that the pro also comes in that version for Verizon.

Straight from OnePlus support today:
"as the device is just out and the first software update/OTA is yet to be released, it is recommended to wait for it rather than doing a reset to the device as the system itself says that it will be fixed on the upcoming update and you can change from single to dual."
Already RMA'ing it up and sending back. When/if it's ever enabled I'll give it another shot.
Borderline deceptive advertising IMHO.

Pretty bummed out. I also ordered directly from OP. My T-Mobile (home) sim is in the first slot, and my work (AT&T) is in the second. I thought it must've been a mistake when I first saw the error, as I've used OnePlus phones ever since the OP5T and haven't seen this *not* work one day 1.
Bummed here too. Got mine today and was looking fwd to popping work and personal SIMs in but SIM2 is a no go. DM'd OP support on Twitter and was told it should work out of the box. I directed them to this thread and screenshots from my device. Crickets.....

I'm seeing in other threads that others seem to have it working (UK users, at least). Have you heard anything back from OP yet? I wonder if removing the second sim and putting it back will trigger something
The response I got was that they, "found that there is an issue with the Dual SIM." and "The team said they will roll out an update which would fix this issue." No ETA given and I didn't respond. I ended up listing and selling my OP8P on Swappa.
ARGH, hope they fix this soon so I can pull the trigger and buy one! Course until then my OP7P will work
Only response I've been able to get from OnePlus is:
This is to inform you that as of now we do not any official information regarding this. We request you to stay tuned to our social media channels for future updates.

I really how no idea what you are talking about. All my OP phones, as far back as the OP3 my son has, has been dual sim. I had zero issue on my last four phones... (five, counting the Axon 7 I had), then this one comes along and it doesn't work. The only thing I can think of is something changed with the switch to 5G.

Deceptive advertising? More like your inability to read. It says on the website that dual sim will be enabled in a future update.
Can we flash an US version with the UK ROM?
Grrrrrrrr. I was really hoping yesterday's update (10.5.6) would've fixed the dual SIM issue, but no. It hasn't. It'll show VoWifi for a sec, then switch back to VoLTE.
At least MMS seems to be working with wifi on. That was broken until this update.
I'm in Germany and I can use dual SIM, but not with 5G enabled. Oneplus is still working on the software on multiple fronts and the US seems to be behind, see screenshot:
I got a notification that the new version is available, did anyone already update to the new version? Is the Dual SIM now working?

Are you still waiting for the dual sim to be turned on? I had a feeling it won't be enabled until the android 11 is available. I
from what I have heard and read from a user in the USA witn the NA version over on oneplus forum with the DP3 firmware, both sim slots are actually working in the DP3, I`m running the DP3 OS and i just tried slot 2 for the sim and it works, data and phone calls work on SIM 2!

Well at release they said "soon", then they said by the end of June, then July, then "first of august". Now not until A11 I guess because it does work in there....but at this point I expect them to disable it on NA version too just because.
No, not waiting anymore.

I'm really disappointed with this and I've been waiting. I'm either going to get a different dual sim phone or wait for A11 to come out. Waiting a few weeks after release is fine but not 6 to 8 months, which they already going to come out with a new model.
As far as I know, only DP3 in the US supports Dual SIMs. I'm using a VZW and my work TMO SIMs working fine.

How stable is DP3 for you? I might want to switch over soon to get that dual sim enabled.

I have been struggling from the begining of this issue now day 106 -- lol My views is that this is a political issue not a tech one. It is becoming very obvious to me that OP has no intention of correcting this and since every other variant is dual sim it leads me to believe this is because north american carriers do not like or support dual sim phones. OP is trying to break into the partnership game and I'm sure T-Mobile dictated the terms and removing dual sim was likely one of them. The other very disappointing thing is that OP has become strictly regional and will not sell other variants out of your region and going to places like amazon is the only option. Here is the thing if you have repair issues support will not touch your phone and offer a replacement for your sales area only. I had a 2023 and it needed fixing. I sent it to OP and the only solution they would come up with was to replace it with a 2025 so I,m back to square one, no pun intended, I now have 2 2025 and one still in the unopened box and both are for sale with a xperia 1 on it's way from hong kong. I have had 7 OP handsets and was right in there from the startup but I'm gone. The regionalization of OP has taken them into the area where there is no room for the small group who want that raw and pure unbranded phone, easy to root and a good international tool. My advise to anyone considering OP, especially in north america is to go somewhere else if you are looking for a true international phone. Their support will not help you if it needs fixing if you purchased a "world phone" variant. Maybe a class action suit would be in order but this group of disgruntled users is likely too small. Damn !!!!!!!
I have the 11 version and dual sim IS working. U.S. version btw. Crap just realized you were inquiring about the update not DP3.

Next time - there is something called paragraphs - try them.
IT'S TRUE!! For you lucky t-mobile customers rocking the Galaxy Note20 Ultra (SM-N986U) you now have this really kool feature on your handset, as this upgrade came included with your March Security Patch Update!
Tutorials | T-Mobile Support
CONGRATULATIONS!
For the factory unlocked users SM-N986U1 as me, we too can obtain these features our brethren received I suppose, if we're willing to flash the SM-N986U build, N986USQU2DUC8 using modded-odin 3.13.3b, all-the-while not forgetting to back-up everything we have as this task involves a data wipe in advance of a clean flash. Also, when dragging & dropping your files in preparation, remember to use CSC, instead of HOME CSC, for this task. Afterwards, we'll gain this upgraded feature due to the fact we temporarily but effectively morphed our devices into the carrier-bound equivalent or SM-N986U for all intents and purposes! We can always revert back to our "old selves" , as we haven't done anything permanent here!
When done properly, this task causes no harm to your handset, whatsoever. If you're inexperienced with flashing firmware utilizing Odin, get someone to assist you, and help
walk- you-through the steps.Don't go it alone if you're unsure. Help is on the way, just ask!
I'm putting this on my weekend to-do list, as it's unlikely this feature will find it's way to the unlocked variant, frequented by us "Rogue" wireless users! Sure, you'll pick-up a little carrier bloat, maybe a half-a-dozen apps in the switch, but that's it!? That's the only downside I see, in addition to the obvious time inconvenience a data-wipe always brings!
Sure, It'd be easier if this e-sim/dual sim feature was included in the SM-N986U1 OTA March Security Patch Update for the unlocked users, but their heart is in the right place and always with their core users (SM-N986U) I suppose?
Safe Journeys, and everyone remember to stay covid-19 Safe!
(I'll check back in with this thread, afterwards)!
Hopefully esim will come to us unlocked folks...
Indeed...I wish tmobile would become inspired to share the love with us! It could happen down the road, I guess? It does explain somewhat why it took them so long to rollout the OTA's the past few months. We're on April already, and some of the carrier-bound folks were still on January until this release!
I converted my TMU Note 20 Ultra to eSIM and it works fine. I took out my old SIM as it is disabled by the conversion process. Don't have another SIM to test but it looks like you can use physical SIM in addition to eSIM. From what I can tell, you can add unlimited number of eSIM to it.
Correct. eSIM support is carrier dependent as well as device brand/model. The carrier support must come first then the carrier's devices will eventually get eSIM support. Verizon has a few devices that supports eSIM however most of their phones don't offer eSIM. However, Spectrum Mobile (uses Verizon network) doesn't support eSIM on any device at this time. So don't expect OTA's to include eSIM support until your specific carrier fully supports it. This is why the unlocked devices will likely not see eSIM support for a while; at least not until all U.S. carriers fully support it beyond iPhones.
Will I be able link my google voice number to eSim?

You should, so long as your provider is (like tx_dbs_tx mentioned) really 1 of 2 players in the game as of now, tmob or vzw.

Dude,
I got shut down...I tried to flash the SM-N986U f/ware but kept getting this new screen(to me) that was all about the bootloader and wasn't seeing much when trying to search it on the desktop. I was extremely wiped-out from the weekend but it ain't rocket science, how embarrassing! SMH
Anyone got a clue what screen in recovery I'm speaking of...your hooked up USB to desktop I was using patchd-modded ver. 3.14.1B or.3.14.3B newer than my usual 3.13.3B I used on my SM-N960UI n9u1 a few handsets back.
Anyway, tap to bootloader, then it kicks up this screen that asks boot to FRRP?(maybe) and also boot to QSSI?, Other choices were START(which just brings you back to the familiar recovery screen, POWER OFF, and I think that was it!! Odin was locked & loaded, was connected through a com port, etc, just wasn't able to get my handset to say "OK I'm ready Odin, HIT ME? So now,.I'm in worse shape, still on U1 f/ware and in the midst of re-adding in everything back on due to the data wipe (which I wont) cuz I'm hoping one of my trusted comrades is gonna "hook this ole' white boy up" and coach me on what I'm missing here with this "noob shi#" "beginners for sinners" embarrassing momentI had this early am?!smh Ive flashed so many times over on Discords SamCentral,.the one I'm banned from now for almost a yr.now(thanks Max W.) I had a how-to guide under pinned posts on flashing with Odin...I called it "birdman's How-To guide, to Flashing Successfully On Every Occasion."
An Easy, Step-by-step Guide To a Successful Flashing Session, Guaranteed to NOT land you in jail!! (right hand to God, on that one)!
Thanks for playing...if anyone can think of something I missed or what choice to make on that new bootloader Menu screen, hook me Up!

Yes, 5G is still there. I don't see anything else different than the physical SIM.
I've got a T-Mobile SIM in a U1 Note 20 Ultra. The u1 is an international version, running a T-Mobile SIM & software.
After checking every day, I just got the Android 12 OTA on January 17. Easy update, all of my data and settings remain, and I got dual SIM, which I have been waiting for over seven months.
I know the U version has had the feature for a while, but I didn't. Happy finally.
