Hey all, I'm fairly new to rooting an android device, this is actually the first time I'm rooting my phone. I used Wugs Nexus root toolkit to root my device and everything went well until the last step where I had to go open superSU app. I would get a popup stating "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSu cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you will need to manually re-root counsult the relevant forums for your device!"
What does this mean exactly? and where did i go wrong? I honestly don't have an idea on how to manually re-root.
Through the toolkit I've unrooted, flashed stocked and did the OEM lock again, and tried the whole rooting process again and I still get that same error. I think I need some guidance if you guys can help me a bit. Sorry to be a big noob about all this.
Thanks!

No need for "unroot". Just flash the supersu zip, and it will install the binaries.

Can you clarify why not with our device?
When you install supersu it lists in output that it's being installed as systemless?

As i know the method for root our phone is system mode, the systemless zip not work
Here the procedure that i followed for rooting my phone and is system mode
What you need:
Unlocked bootloader (see chapter 2).
TWRP installed (see chapter 7).
1.Zip .
2.Zip .
How:
Put 1.zip and 2.zip into your sd card/internal storage.
Boot into TWRP.
Ignore the message from TWRP.
Choose the "install" button.
Locate 1.zip (if on sd card go "up a level" and then "external sdcard" there you should find it).
Install it.
Reboot your phone.
Boot into TWRP again.
Locate 2.zip .
Install it.
Reboot
That's just the initial bootloader unlock and root method.
I used same method but later flashed custom rom witch also comes rooted. I have also unrooted and then rerooted systemless mode with SuperSU zip.

3 months since your last contact....
Things have changed a lot and android pay is working hard for avoid us pay with rooted phones.
Nowadays magisk is on v9 version and facing v10.
Want a clue?
If your mobile is compatible with multirom go this way. One rom rooted and modified as you want and another stock for doing payments.
Luck!
Tried everything flashing every supersu via twrp and just gets stuck at the moto logo. Tried systemless root and did the same thing. So thinking it was my kernel and flashed elementalx moto kernel ( frankenclark ) then tried to flash supersu once again with the same fail and noticed with that kernel I lost my wifi connection but ran it anyways but failed. After much forum browsing and that supersu just isn't for the MXPE I even went as far as kingroot to achieve root then slap supersu to keep root like I did with my kindle fire. I'm pretty lost for words here. I'm previously running resurection remix and works flawless but I do really like the original setup. Ps tried the stock rooted roms and they was a lil off and kept trying to ota update but failed because my bootloader is unlocked so I had to uninstall it. Just looking to root the original rom so I can keep all the moto apps. Looking forward to hearing the ideas. Thanks in advance.
Wow... So I assume you flashed back to pure stock?
Rooting is not difficult, there is only 2 ways to do it, either flash SuperSU 2.62-3 beta or the latest stable version with the "echo" command for systemless installations. Look at this thread (note the pictures in the OP are of my XT1575, I fudged a little) but the method is identical. If it doesn't work, no offense, but your not doing something right.
I have both pure stock in a restore and resurection remix in a restore which is pretty much my daily because the active display drives me nuts. And supersu 2.6.2 I haven't tried yet but the SR supersu I've flashed via twrp with the stock kernel and ( frankenclark ) kernel and it responded the same stuck at moto. I've flashed it via windroid toolkit also it shows it's installing without any failure but on boot up she says no way. And I've updated the toolkit to it's newest version and still ends up stuck at moto. I'm sure I'll figure it out and get it. And no offense on doing something wrong it's been known to happen. Some lg double tap to wake the screen would be nice over the active display.

It sounds like the install script for SuperSU is not doing a systemless install...
So you are flashing stock, booting at least once (this is required), the open TWRP and allow changes to system (In mounts make sure Mount System Read-Only is NOT checked), go to Advanced - Terminal and enter "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu" and press enter, then go to Install and select the SuperSU zip file and install it. It should clearly say it is doing a system-less install, patching boot image, etc. as shown in the first post of the link I shared a couple posts previous.
OK I tried this info word for word and tried multiple times and its still gets stuck on the moto logo, I don't get it.
I don't know... it's a puzzler.

Well that worked perfectly the first try I used those terminal commands with that version SuperSU it rooted and booted right up like normal and started asking the SuperSU adb shell permission banners. Perfect guys maybe this thread will help some other poor soul to get root. Awesome advice that works. Thank you.

Hey all.
I'm in need of a bit of help. I have a J5 and was getting sick of being told theres never any space to install apps, so I rooted it hoping to be able to remove the stock apps that come inbuilt like word, excel etc.... Anyway, I then decided to take it a step further and try and install a custom rom, long story short, im stuck with a green screen
I've been googling and following tutorials for hours now and I'm really at the point of giving up, so thought I would reach out incase i'm just over tired from it all and making silly mistakes.
I have TWRP 3.1.1-0 on my phone, I installed Lineage 14.1 figured out how to change the updater-script, green screen. I then installed a stock rom advanced I found here, green screen. I tried Aokp nightly nougat, green screen. After googling green screen I found a post saying its something to do with incompatibility from TWRP and that I need to install lollipop 5.1.1 firmware first before I can change to lilneage 14.1... Ive been googling for ages and I'm either coming to sites that want me to pay to download it at a reasonable speed or wait for hours. I'm a bit dubious as no other rom seems to have worked and I'm not sitting here with an empty phone.
Thanks.

Flashing LP / MM / N ROMs based on AOSP/LOS over stock MM/ROMs based on stock MM --> green screen.
How to flash MM/N ROMs based on AOSP/LOS:
1) Install 5.1.1 stock firmware.
2) Install TWRP 5.1.1 (Nick's or Vince's).
3) Flash the MM/N ROM you want.

Did you flash the official SuperSU module from the lineage site?
No, I used Odin with the cf autoroot for my device.
I had problems with cf auto root, particularly the green screen on boot, try flashing the supersu from their site.
Tried it, used first one on the site, installed okay but can't see the su app anywhere, then tried the x86 version in case but wouldn't install.
Oh never mind, had to enable dev mode and enable root for apps and adb first, there is no actual app. I ran another app and it asked for root permission.

You should've asked in the Q&A section. Thread moderators will probably move this one as soon as they notice, don't worry, you're a relatively new user so you can't know everything yet.
By the way, you can't root with Magisk, if you're not rooted with other methods, because your bootloader is still locked and neither stock recovery or Odin would allow it. You first need to get root access by using some specific software such as ChainFire Autoroot. There are some guides available, but first you have to search for the zip file on the ChainFire website (link), pay attention to the model and check if Odin is included with the package. If it's not, just do a Google search for a fairly recent version. When you have everything you need, use this guide to root your device (link), just go to the second post for the exact procedure.
Once you're done, use some software to verify root access, then download Flashify from Play Store. Go to the TWRP website and get the latest recovery (version 3.1.1) for your device. N910G codename should be 'trlte', better verify yourself to avoid issues. You can now flash the recovery using Flashify.
You're now at a good point, your device is ready for further steps to get Magisk. I'll post the rest of the procedure as soon as you're ready, I just want to warn you that Magisk could possibly create some issues like app instability or inability to use certain services. I got rid of it after few months and flashed SuperSU instead, which is the better option in my opinion. I've never used it on TouchWiz so I can't tell you anything specific about that, you may want to backup your current ROM into an external MicroSD using TWRP, just in case.

Thank you for the advices. I did root following all those steps u gave me. For rooting i dont have a problem but its only after which when im tryin to install magisk i get error sayin that magisk only works for lollipop. Abit confused there. From my knowledge i knew that to install magisk i need to unroot superSu which i did & kept my twrp custom recovery. But somehow i cant seem to keep the twrp recovery & thats where i cant flash the 13.3v magisk.

As I thought, Magisk won't work with the stock ROM. The main issue here is the kernel, which doesn't allow such modification. ChainFire has found a workaround to bring SuperSU on TouchWiz, but the fact it's not open source doesn't allow Magisk developers to use the same method. The head developer, few months ago, said that he was working on it and he was making some progress, but apparently it's not ready yet. I think it's not worth trying again, it won't work at the moment. I suggest keeping an eye on the thread, in case there are some updates. At the moment, I recommend either using SuperSU (which I recommend anyways), or flashing a different ROM, since deodexed TouchWiz ROMs with H-Vitamin or RAM Kernel do actually support Magisk, I tried myself.

Black Shade is right about the kernel. Using the wrong kernel will cause the install to fail. I'm on an n910t3, using ramrom v3 kernel, and I'm using magisk 13.3 for Android pay and viper audio. There's an official magisk 13.3 thread on xda somewhere. You should try there as a start.

Hello, I'm unsure if it'll work for you but it did for me.
1. Downloaded latest firmware from sammobile & flashed it to phone. (You can just try and find your current boot.img and skip to step 4)
2. Opened stock ROM zip & md5 file - using 7zip
3. Extracted boot.img
4. Place onto SD-CARD
5. Install Magisk apk
6. Magisk > settings > output format > change to ".tar" file
7. Magisk > patch boot.img
8. Locate "patched boot.img" > flash in Odin AP
Done
