At first I thought I had downloaded an app that was just being an asshole and wiping my device. But now I think that this head unit has some kind of protection or something. I had downloaded an app to reboot into recovery, but it said it needed administrative permissions so I di ti and as soon as I did it, the device reset into recovery (without me telling it to) and proceeded to wipe itself.
But now, I just tried to mount the system as writeable using /dev/block/platform/soc/11230000.mmc/by-name/ and as soon as I hit enter, the device reset and wiped itself.
Has anyone heard of anything like this? I am about to lose my mind if I have to go through setting this thing up again for it to just wipe itself. Would diabling or enabling Preserve AVB 2.0/dm-verity help this? Does anyone know what is going on here?
Also, I tried to sign up at the 4pda site but I cannot get through the captcha

I am trying to install Dexter's ElocityMod v1.41, and running into two problems.
The easy and final problem is this: how do I know if the mod was successful or not? How can I verify that the A7 is running ElocityMod v1.41.
The confusing problem and first problem I have is this.
I power the machine up, and use the procedure ElocityMod v1.42 thread to enter the Recovery Menu
I press home and see the menu
I select Wipe/factory reset
BUT
At that point I am presented with the following:
Android system recover <1e>
Confirm wipe of all user data?
THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE.

Yes -- delete all user data

E:recovery.c Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Formatting MISC:...

So this confuses me. I have a few questions.
Do I want to wipe the user data? What will I lose by doing so?
I can move up and down selecting each list item. Do I want to press MENU and wipe each one?
Or do I want to wipe only the first item?
Or do I want to wipe only the user data?
And what is that stuff at the bottom about can't open a cache recovery command and formatting MISC:?
And finally, is the Elocity A7 easy to brick, or hard to brick and easy to recover from?
Thanks so much
Jerry
What I did when flashing was wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, and then apply sdcard:update.zip. I did the same thing for 1.41, 1.42 and the xbox controller patch. Wiping should erase all data and programs on your tablet. I am not sure how hard it is to brick this tablet but as long as the files you download from that thread don't get corrupted in the download process you should be fine. And even then I think you should easily be able to just turn it off and get back into recovery to flash again.
Thanks, I deleted the user / data partition, and actually did not apply the update (accidentally) and just rebooted to find that the tablet booted up just fine, looking reinitialized to factory defaults.
So I tried again, and this time applied the update, and it worked just fine.
And success seems to be self-evident, in this case, coming up, being asked to setup a "phone", and signing into a google account, and eventually seeing a lot more apps in the drawer, specifically including the market.
One other tip though, you can't sign into your google account until you setup a wifi channel. The tablet wants you to do it the other way around.
And just a note for google 2 step authentication users, if you do use 2 step authentication, then when signing in to an existing google account on the tablet, you do need to use a google application specific password.
yeah kind of dumb it asks for a google login when you don't even have wifi setup. you can also check the what version you have by going into settings and clicking about.
Hello, I am a noob and I did not know what I was doing, so I ignored the warning and uninstalled BusyBox.
Now I cannot use wifi, bluetooth, factory reset, my camera is displaying the image upside-down, etc.
Could you help me please? Is there a way to get the original phone firmware back? (I guess it is somehow damaged)
Thanks.
First try to do wipe data/ factory reset(or something similar) from recovery mode(after phone is off, power it on while keep pressing vol+).
I tried it earlier from the GUI but it did not work even when I executed it from the recovery mode.
Is there any other way to fix the firmware?
I was using a rooted phone in order to use BusyBox, so I guess that essential software normally not suggestible by a user can be damaged.
Why dont you try installing BusyBox again?
ATT S5 with Straight Talk sim. Towel root and stuff. I can't place calls but can receive them. The antenna reception icon is replaced with the little "banned" (circle with line through it...think no smoking signs). Any fixes?
First try wiping the system cache. Boot to recovery mode and wipe the cache. If the problem persists, go the application manager in the settings menu and clear cache and data for the process (app).
That will resolve most issues. There have been hundreds of threads about xxx has stopped working, so if you had done a search you would already have found this.
If your luck is bad and the above doesn't fix the error, then presumably you have something unusual happening e.g. a corrupt system file or non-obvious conflicting app. You can try temporarily removing recently installed apps or resetting your phone.
To reset your phone, backup any files that are important to you. Then write a full, stock firmware image with Odin, followed by a facotry ata reset. It's recommended that you use a pre-June 6th firmware build to assure that you can easily Towel root again.

You should provide more information e.g. a detailed, step by step description of what you are trying in aid of discerning where you have gone awry. It's implausible that you wrote a full stock firmware image plus cleared the system cache and a factory data reset and still have the problem remaining.
Those steps would restore any changes that you could have made to the keyloayout files and then some. Ergo, there is something that you have left out or possibly an error or omission in one of the steps you took towards reverting your phone.

1- Check your IMEI by *#06# and *#0011#. Is it still OK and PASS?
2- In the most cases, flashing the stock firmware may fix the problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 (unlocked version). It was using the stock v4.4.2 but it was rooted and the bootloader was unlocked, I also had a different Recovery installed (Can't remember which one but it wasn't Clockwork). I am no longer using the phone so it doesn't contain any data that I need. I was preparing the phone to sell it so I decided to encrypt the storage as I read that that doing this would remove any possibility of old data being taken off.
During encryption setup, I had to enter a PIN before I could have it encrypted so I entered one. Once it finished encrypting (took quite a while), it rebooted and asked me for the PIN to decrypt the device, I entered the PIN. It seemed like it accepted this but then it rebooted. It kept doing this so I thought no big deal as it probably already achieved what I wanted. So I did a factory reset via the Recovery. However, the encrypted partition still persisted after the factory reset.
So then I decided to use Odin (v3.09) along with the latest stock ROM (v4.4.2 I9505XXUGNG8) to write over the whole phone thinking this would reset it. But the encrypted partition still persists and it keeps rebooting after I enter my PIN.
How can I completely factory reset the phone including removing the encrypted storage? I don't need any data on the phone, just need to reset it completely back to factory.
TIA
Probably flash a custom recovery and then:
In TWRP, under "Wipe" menu, there is "Format Data" function, which will effectively remove the encryption from the device
(alongside with all the data of course).
ps the information you had about encrypting your device is wrong. Basically when you delete a file from you phone, there is no way currently possible to get it back. That is caused by TRIM. Not even professional companies can restore it as of yet. So once you delete it, it's really gone.

Ok, I'll give that a go.
This is a similar article to what I read about needing to encrypt the device to truly remove your personal data: http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/fea...elete-all-data-from-your-android-phone-603731
What about files that haven't been explicitly deleted? Say for example if I left all the files undeleted but I just did a factory reset, will those files be recoverable? That's what I want to protect against.

That articel is mistaken. As of Android 4.3, files that are deleted can't be recovered. A factory reset should be enough. It will also wipe your internal storage.
Thank you. Phone is all sorted now and back to a factory reset
Non too bright in this neck of the woods... Good thing I was able to fix it.:victory:
After using Permissions Plus for a few apps denying them internet access I chose the option in 'Settings' to 'Keep files locked' (after reboot). There was a warning about this but not too much detail of the consequences (unless you understand root packages), so let me tell you:
I tried to install an app in a hurry forgetting Packages.xml was locked (system permissions) and it obviously couldn't write data to the SDcard. After I rebooted "phone has stopped" error message every few seconds.
I thought, no worries, I'll just flash the orignal KDZ and be back in business, but the permissions were STILL locked even after a CSE reinstall. I figured this out after reinstalling permissions denied and seeing 'ghost' app listings still present from the previous installation. How they survived a Firmware flash I have no idea, so I wiped and reset all permissions, Bingo! Back in business.
