I'll first start by introducing myself, I'm Shaun from Sydney, Australia. I run a business support company that assists other businesses in their endeavours. I am working with a client at the moment that is in need of some help with a product.
To assist them, I'm in need of a boffin that knows the ins and outs of Android APK's and how to make things work. I need to get in touch with people to discuss if it could be possible to combine either Android TV, or Google TV to a device that is already running a version of Android.
It will eventually become a consumer product after the software work has been done and needs a face-lift from its current form. Ultimately, Google TV is where we want it to land.
The right help in this adventure will be paid. Let me get that clear and open from the start.
If such a person/s exist here, could you please contact me so that we might start conversations to get this done!
EDIT: I'm also open to advice/guidance as to how to get this done with Google's blessing. Again, this will end up being a Consumer product, so I don't want to be running into any legal issues from using a Google product without their knowledge or consent etc.

Ok the meat is, I am forming a very early stage start up.
I am UK based with (sadly!) no language skills so youll have to be English speaking.
I am seeking a developer to help me put together a prototype software suite.
I do not know this platform AT ALL, so youll have to know how to acces databases via vpn.( may need knowledge of the server side too) youll also have to understand the operations of the bluetooth stack with regards to sending print files.
And lastly you will need to be able to implement and debug a visual input sytem.
Its actually quite basic stuff, but I have no time to learn it as my bank wants to see a prototype ASAP.
Again I apologise if this is against your policy, but I need to get the ball rolling.
To clarify, as I am currently in patenting process I cant discuss much yet, but this can go two ways;
1: If you have the skills I need and spare time we agree on a price and timescale, I pay you for your work, then you walk away.
2: We discuss the project, you come on board with skills provided in return for a percentage of company.
This could be a great oppurtunity either way.

So check out the guys that I listed above and see if they have exhibit the skills that you need require for your project. Also if you need help with the design-side we also have plenty of good GUI/skinning guys.

You have to find a C++ book and get comfy with that. Then you'd have to look at the Windows Mobile SDK and combine the knowledge of both. Plus its trial and error because its running on different hardware.
Its a daunting task. It took me a good year fulltime to become a decent website developer. The hard part is thinking like a "programmer". Otherwise it'll look like its an alien language

I'd love to help although I've never worked in the areas you require. I'd recommend posting a slightly more detailed job requirements criteria so you may attract the right young budding enthusiast.
If you're creating software a bank will wish to use then the security side of the VPN will need to be top notch along with the methods in which the app will access data.
Unfortunately I'm more of a GUI designer and the only databases I access are the MS POOM databases for Outlook.

Erm Ok !!! I dont know what to say to that. That is the account I use most often. I didnt claim to rep IBM! This is a personal project and Im just trying to make contacts.
Regarding an other post above, The VPN is further down the road and not needed yet. Also the software will not be USED by a bank just shown to them as a proof of concept.
At that point I would be able to go beyond an overdraft to an actual business loan and be able to contract a developer.
It is hard for me to Give much detail without an NDA as my idea is not revolutionary but the application is novel.
If I were to discuss openly I would lose the ability to patent down the line.
It is essentially A GUI that I need, and a simple underlying app which will give me the ability to enter a small description in 30 odd fields.
When each field is selected a score of -1 is applied (the field value is initially zero).
At the end of a session, ( there will be an option to open new or close a session) a score is given to each field and depending on score, one of 90 text files (3 per field) is linked to.
A print file containing these 30 text files on one page and a score from 0 to -10 for each field in a table on the other page is then produced.
The database access and VPN would come later on but in the prototype that is all thats needed.
Im sorry thats about all the exp' I can give in open. But if you feel you could help and would like to get involved I could arrange an NDA.

I'll cut right to the chase. I'm looking for a enthusiastic developer to help me develop an application for a 'iPhone' style app store.
I have some rough ideas on how to go about this, but im not completely in touch with the development of Windows Mobile Based applications.
The application will essentially connect to a hosted website of mine containing free / opensource / demo WM6 applications with the option to download and install to your phone.
I've thought of using a RSS style backbone for the application as i think it would be the easiest way to go about receiving updates from the website with links to .cab 's for download.
I'm aiming for this to be a free hosting service for aspiring developers to get their applications out there and easily accessable for others on their WM6 devices
The only thing i can really offer in return is credit on my application hosting page for the client software, and a agreed percentage of any revenue i may or may not receive in the future.
I am aware of the proposed one by MS but they are asking $99 for devs to post their applications on there, i would like for this to be a free alternative for poor devs.
Sorry for the long post, and any thoughts regarding this will be greatly appreciated! If anyone is further interested, provide your email and i can write up a more detailed explaination with diagrams.

Futhermore, i do not know of a solution such as this currently developed. So if this is the case, perhaps you could link me to it? That would be helpful.
I have barely developed anything since the BASIC days on the C64 and Amiga, and now feel inspired to create some financial applications for the Australian market - such as superannuation projections.
How hard is it to develop? A few standard calculations like you would see on a spreadsheet would work, with some graphing.
Most financial applications I have found are pretty basic and don't account for inflation in rising wages and fees, etc.
I believe I could attract at least a dollar for a well developed application for superannuation alone.
I have installed the Android 2.2 SDK and have no idea where to start. I presume this is some sort of emulated Android device I can test my applications on.
Are there any tutorials on how to get started? What's the development language?
All I need to do is create a simple text interface to input a few parameters to run some complex financial calculations on the back end.
A really sophisticated application would pull live interest rates or other data and enter that in.

These are all great tutorials that will walk you through the basic processes and applications/layouts. The only issue you will have is when/if you decide to go through the "Tabs View" tutorial, there are a lot of errors in the code, and I have no idea why no one have changed it, but you can PM me for the correct version.
If you want some basics on Java, just do a google search, there are a lot of great tutorials out there for beginning Java. I recommend doing this first, just so you have a good understanding of Java(which is the development language), it will *REALLY* help out. You can incorporate other languages, but for the time being, stick with Java.
Yes, the SDK comes with an emulator so that you can test your programs without having to install them on a real device. In addition to what Jimmy said (and I can't stres highly enough that you should start with the Android Developer's website and tutorials), you can go to Stack Overflow which is a programming Q&A website. People there are generally very helpful, as long as you've shown you've actually put some effort into solving your problem before you posted your question.
Fair enough... So it's basically about learning to programme for Java? How hard would it be, realistically, for someone with no application development experience?
You need a basic grasp of objected oriented design & programming, along with an understanding of the Java language. When it comes to gui aspects & all communication with other apps/data on the device, you have Android, rather than the usual Java class libraries such as awt or swing.
How hard? It's doable, imo, but will depend on aptitude. Start with Java & then add in Android when you feel like more material to get your head around.
So basically getting started requires me to learn application development like on any other platform, in OO and Java. I may as well do a course or something then. Would a few weeks doing some sort of intro course help?
I'm sure an appropriate course could be very helpful. Though I'd steer clear of those short courses claiming to turn anyone into a valuable skilled programmer in only xx weeks, if only because the tutor will probably know less than you on the subject. Better one which makes credible claims regarding its introductory nature. A couple of degree level intro modules on OO or Java should be of help.

Im a student in my final year and as a semestral project I have an electronic voting system built on Java Enterprise technology with enterprise java beans (EJBs) running on Glassfish.
For my final work id like to create an app for android that could communicate with those beans on a Glassfish server and thus a people could vote by a cell phone.
My question is Is this even possible? Over the past three days ive been googling stuff concerning this matter but nothing really helped. Id really appreciate a straightforward answer because my time for choosing a final project is almost up and I dont want to end up doing something that is impossible.

Answer these straight questions.
1. What is an EJB?
2. Who "runs" an EJB?
3. Where does an EJB "live"?
If and when you answer these three questions you'll know what is needed for a project where "people could vote with a cellphone".
What I can tell you in the most straightforward way is that it is possible for you to have people using their android phones to vote with your Glassfish server.

I am looking for the same thing - to write Android apps that communicate with session beans on an app server (i.e. Glassfish). Since I will own both ends of the app, I am looking for a simple approach (e.g. RMI) as opposed to a lot of unnecessary bru-ha-ha (e.g. why turn Java objects into SOAP, just so we can turn them back into the same Java object ... not that Android really supports SOAP).
It looks like Google, for some reason, crippled the Android's ability to communicate. About the only built-in mechanisms I've found are REST (and I don't like REST) or writing my own protocol and using servlets.
Surely, by now, someone has come up with a simple, concise, mechanism for addressing this issue ... I just can't find it.
I'm working on an XMPP chat client designed for Honeycomb tablets. I've gotten pretty far on the UI and data model, but I don't have much experience working with Services. I've looked into just modding Beem or Yaxim, but both have different design goals than what I'm looking to do (I eventually want to expand it beyond just XMPP, so I'm abstracting my data model as much as possible, wheras theirs are very coupled with their services).
Right now there aren't any good chat clients that make good use of Fragments, etc. If anyone wants to help me change that, let me know. The end result will be open sourced under either the GPL or Apache. If this generates some interest I'll put what I've got on GitHub and we can discuss how to move forward from there.
