Delete Camera off of lockscreen? - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

I just upgraded to the 8 pro from my Pixel 2, I'm liking it, but I really hate the camera and assistant being on the lockscreen. It looks like the only way to remove these things would be through root (which I don't mind doing) I just need to know how. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've not seen a way to do it on Stock OS. Some of the Developers Roms might have that mod...

make a completely stock froyo launcher, htc desire. no root required!

From a comment i made on the thread mentioned below, but seemed appropriate to start a new one considering lots of people have been looking to do this.
for any of those using launcher pro, and hate the default icons, ive attached the stock froyo ones for browser and phone. if you are an htc sense user and want a stock froyo experience without root/ custom roms then downloading launcher pro and using these icons is the easiest way to do it. if u want the stock android phone/contacts app, download dailer one and link it to the froyo phone icon (by long pressing) in launcher pro. bearing in mind the launcher2 phone icon is hardlinked to the stock android phone app, which is impossible to install on htc phones. this is the closest you can get, and it does a pretty good job!
i have also tweaked the nexus icon from another thread to fit.
it was coming up very small as the app drawer icon in launcher pro. screenshot and files for all icons attached.
ive also attached the froyo stock app drawer icon, the launcher pro one is close but a bit big and doesnt quite match the style
i know no-one has directly asked for all this info but ive been reading the forums and a lot of people want to do this so thought i had to share the knowledge somewhere! i can take credit for very little, all i have done is edit an icon and congregated stuff ive found into one place. from my own experience wanting to do this i found it very frustrating that those with sense but wanting stock had to resort to 'almost but not quite' solutions. ive also found that a lot of supposedly stable roms are far from it. this ensures a bug/ fc free experience. you get complete stock functionality but with the visual appeal and the added dock buttons from froyo.
please link this info on to any forum you might think could need it, also, if some kind soul could upload mirrors to the images for those who arent members (this thread is aimed primarily at them) and embedded photos of the screen grabs would also be appreciated, i dont have the permissions. thanks a lot, hope this stuff is useful!

Deleted htclockscreen, looking for insight

First, yes, I've searched, despite my post count, I scower these forums as well as the IRC to make sure I know what I'm talking about, to some degree anyways.
I've deleted htclockscreen. For what I want from a rom, I've pretty much customized my phone exactly how I want it. While this is a small thing, it's still something that bothers me....
I've replaced the default alarm with deskclock to get around the dismiss issue.
Ive deleted numerous apps on my phone to where it's not bloated really at all anymore. It's very CMish.
My qualm, much like a few other people, is that the transparent lockscreen effect after deleting htclockscreen is just annoying in that, i know it's something to do with the framework, and now i've seen the cm nightly build, to know that it's possible to fix it...
would anyone know how to go about doing so? is there a file from the cm-nightly build I could push to my rom to fix it?
It's the one, little bitty, issue I have with what i've done so far. I feel if I got that part fixed, I could release a pretty decent rom to everyone that doesn't want all the bloat and excess junk on the phone. It's not completely rid of sense... but it's rid of most of it. I dont mind the sense calling/answering aspect.
Anyways... I know there have been a few threads to touch on this, and a few have asked questions in this similar style but i didn't see anything dedicated to getting rid of the transperancy on the lockscreen. Also would be nice if the menu button didn't unlock it too...
any guidance or insight on the subject would be most appreciated.
note* i've tried pushing some files from other builds of other roms but haven't found anything to work flawlessly, either a lot of fc's or bootloops... and i dont' know how to complie that file myself or know enough to figure it out...
thanks in advance to anyone who might want to help me along
thanks greatly

Worth rooting and using custom ROMs?

Hi,
My warranty is running out so I'm on the fence: look for a new phone or go the rooting and custom ROM path and continue using Note 4.
So as we have now MM and some updated apps, air command and other stuff is updated.. so what additional benefits custom ROM could give?
Speed? I do some gaming and can't complain that Note 4 is slow. It's really fast.
Disable more apps? That would be a benefit coz now not all apps can be disabled.
Remove quick connect buttons?
What else am I missing?
Launcher tweaks? But we use Nova. You don't need root for Nova
What else?
Thanks!!!
I'm using stock MM 6.0.1 (DPB1) and it's great. Still a fantastic phone for 2016 and really fast. I only root for Titanium Backup to freeze all the crap and to boost the headphone output level.
Only wish is for universal DPI adjustment as I can't be arsed messing about with xposed framework and the like but it's not a biggie.
You can root without installing a custom ROM and it takes literally 2 minutes.
What exactly do you freeze which cannot be disabled in Application Manager? And what benefits those freezed app give?
Will Greenify give any noticable battery life? As I understood Greenify needs root as well.
Here's a list of my disabled apps.

What you freezed with tibackup?
For me the main reason for rooting is to be able to get the huge games I have downloaded over the years to all fit onto my ext SD card. I also enjoy the ability to use apps like Cerberus,, Greenify and SD Maid.... etc. to their absolute full potential.
I root phones because I want things the way I want them. For example I don't like the quick connect logos when I lower the screen to see any alerts. I also don't like how the phone warns me that the volume is getting loud. As if I don't know how.loud the phone is. Little thing like that drive me crazy. I root the phone so I can deal with those little announces like that.
If you have to ask whether its worth rooting or not, then I am not sure you are in the right place man. Said it plenty times before, saying it again, I don't really see the point of using Android without rooting, unless you need that KNOX thingy. Why? I can't even start to mention. Take AdAway for example, and that's the first step only of a journey of countless steps.
Custom ROMs on the other hand? If you see a really good dev, then yes, like Arya, or Omega etc., otherwise no comments.

Click to collapse
So if one isn't rooting, then one might as well use...what, an iOS device? That doesn't make sense to me. There are plenty of compelling reasons to use Android over alternate mobile OS'es, even if one is using unrooted Android. Even if one is using unrooted, unmodified, BAD skinned Android.

I have 96 apps frozen. Mostly pre-installed crap and many system apps including all the wireless/remote/sharing stuff I don't need. You need to choose what's important to you but it makes a massive difference to battery life.
If you don't know what is rooting for, you should forget about it.

I know what rooting is and I've used it in my previous phones (Nexus mainly) for many many things.
Why? Because Nexus didn't have all the features I needed.
And now Note 4 has battery optimization feature (so no need for Greenify), all those notification buttons, quick buttons, side buttons you name it (no custom rom is needed), basic backup function works to Samsung cloud (it partially covers tibackup) etc etc.
Well.. AdAway is a different thing.

Alcatel Idol 4 Cricket varient Rom development

So now that the cricket vareint has root, what are some edits we should make in a custom rom for it? I am new to developing so bear with me, but when my rom comes into production it's going to be called the people's rom. I am only starting with the basis of it to be extremely user friendly and customizable, probably using smart launcher as the default? give me some ideas, other developers help me make it happen!
I've found a few neat hacks, for example you can remove or rename /system/vendor/overlay and it will remove a bunch of cricket branding, however it may cause unintended side effects, I haven't really noticed any issues but ymmv.
Also if you look around someone has modified maxxaudio to not require the boom key, if you flash that you won't have to hit the boom key to increase audio quality.
In the root thread I started someone posted how to enable WiFi hotspot as well, I would include that.
I'm planning on doing some ui tweaks, will post here if I manage to do anything useful. Main thing I want to do is hide the brightness slider in the notification drawer and bake in the status bar brightness control you can get with gravitybox. Also I want to enable the stock Android power menu, but IDK how far I'll get with that.
One more thing, I'd just stick with the stock launcher or one that's very lightweight when it comes to filesize, since it's not difficult to install them off the play store and not everyone will like smart launcher

Stock camera modification

Question guys. Possibly brought up months ago, idr. Im on CPT right now.
Thats Coronavirus People Time
Not....not the other one.
Anyway back when, i remember adjusting some build.props in busybox to where stock camera utilised all 3 rear lenses simultaneously. It looked great. This was regular photo mode and whatever reason cleared up that red/dark tint plenty people had with ultra wide nightscape in particular. I got ahold of a more recent kali linux for personal reasons unrelated but it came with apktool. Curious if anyone has experience with this at all as im not the biggest gcam fan (it is what it is, chill) for a couple reasons but the biggest being long exposure. For example stock camera at 30 seconds will collect light and data before the shutter click whereas gcam does the shutter click first, followed by collection. So unless i got starcam mod (that worked) my night sky photos would be entirely too dark. No i dont want to excessively up the iso and wait forever for processing. A nice 30 seconds and 320 with farthest focus works awesome on stock followed by minimal lightroom adjustments. Point is i DO want to use either superwide or the combo that i mentioned earlier in pro mode. Inb4 search forums, i honestly dont have the time so if already mentioned in a way, a link would be appreciated. Any other advice with anything else like buildprops or what latest apk is that works with this device would be awesome. If anyone has modded a newer UI to work for this, id like to know as well if possible. Thanks frens
If you are unable to simply google what you are looking for, & you know what terms to use since you seem like a photographer:
Then you'll have to probably make this. I hate the stock camera apps and all the google play store stuff too.
I just wish we could have a Canon quality camera on a phone and PC webcam.
Is it really that hard ???
Good luck. I hope you get into programming and I get to use your camera app!
Im not, just been a while since messing with anything. Had bookmarks etc from hours and hours of searching where to find the files to edit (using the phone, rooted magisk) various strings and found some stuff thatd work some that wouldnt and crash the app but its like
All im saying is for example with gcam (and others)
You can have exposure time of 60 seconds where op stock is limited to 30. So its not a hardware thing rooted or not. Definitely software. Apkstudio is basically above but gui. I know some people find things easier unix/linux related (like android) to do from linux in the first place instead of cross platform. Some things are just easier. Wasnt really sure how active anyone is on this device anymore. An easier goal would really just be getting the newer UI, pre android 11 betas, to work but idk nothing about that either. And if i did this shutdown stuff past 6 months really got everything throwed off.
