why i downgrade to ui 2.5 - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Guides, News, & Discu

ok first of all sry for my poor english.
look i hade the s21 ultra ,but after 4 days use i liked more the square display of the note ,so i went back to use the note 20 ultra ,and sold my s21 ultra.
now on the s21 ultra, i had many animation problem, like lagging, sometimes whatsapp not good etc...
the unlock animation made trouble, and i try any fix i saw on net but nothing fix the issue.
so i back to note 20 ultra ,and after update to ui 3.0 i saw exact same things that i had with my s21.
but now, i saw new firmware ui 3.1 so my phone support oxm (multi csc) so i download the new firmware and update via odin.
after update i saw that everything exact same as ui 3.0 like lagg, stuck somtimes ,and apps not fully works good with this new ui
people say maybe i had phone problem, but no , it was the same iisue like i had on my s21 .
now i download the latest firmware ui 2.5, and let me tell you ,it smooth like batter ,and not even 1 iisue at all.
so i dont need the simple new features that the ui 3+ brings, its all small things that i dont use anyway,so i recommand you all guys if you dont like somthing or got iisue with new firmware or the phone is abit laggy ,downgrade back to ui 2.5 and enjoy the phone ...hope it will help some of you that got eagle eye like me, and every little lag is problem.
cheers enjoy ,and good healthy to your all

tried 3.0 and 3.1 today it won't works..and about the s21 you mention I was thinking exactly the same..i got the most smoothness by locking the refresh rate at 120 with the known app

Indeed you can. Well, not really WQHD but something less.
Set your phone to FHD+ and Adaptive refresh rate in the Display Settings.
Set up adb, connect the phone, allow permission and type on the terminal adb devices (if you are using Powershell, then it's ./adb for all the following)
If everything is ok, then you can type in order adb shell wm size 1439x3087 which sets your resolution slightly under WQHD and adb shell wm density 560 which restores the pixel density. Now you can have Adaptive or Fixed 120hz resolution, or lower, with semi-WQHD resolution. This doesn't stick after reboot and obviously drain more power than the stock option.

Hey Friend,
Sux to hear about your issues with One UI 3.0-NO(lol, that's me)! i do get the lagging some but it's usually me (I find) because I didn't close apps I was using earlier and catch myself with like 25 still open/still running! What's more, keep in mind these are all mine, not including the apps already running in the background, system apps, etc.,you know! Did you sell your S21 Ultra outright or did Samsung accept the return, without a hitch? I'm curious, because couple years ago with my Note9 Unlocked I had a similar incident to yours and attempted to return it to them and, long story short, ended up coming back to me! smh
Since that transaction, I got flagged (or something) and cannot order anything from Samsung.com, or through their apps ShopSamsung or ShopGalaxy...message comes back to my email saying "Order Canceled Due To I Exceeded The Allowed Number Of Transactions"!? Thats 3 years ago, and is still going on, it's like they banned me because of the attempted return?! I switched to BestBuy.com a few years ago and since then I get my new flagship sooner (by weeks) than the pre-order folks, and save at least $100 when paying in full vs. Samsung.com pricing! I received my device(using now) Note20 Ultra 512gb 5G at the beginning of the 2nd week in August last year and that freaked me out cuz I figured I'd be waiting 'til end of month, minimum! Sorry, wandered a bit there...glad you got your device issues ironed-out, because there is alot of folks out there that have device issues, ongoing, and either just decide to live with them, or don't know who to turn to for help, like these LIFESAVERS at XDA DEVELOPERS!
So, with your worries gone your holding on with Android 10 One UI 2.5 until further notice, I suppose?
That's my man....right on!!

yes my friend thats truth.i stay with note 20 ultra 2.5 ui the best and the smoothest.
i didnt returned my s21 ultra i sold it .and the lag with the new ui 3.0 or 3.1 is only when i unlock the phone you will see the transection lag with the icons but only when unlocking the phone (ints not apps in the backgrownd its new from store after set everything new) i know now that its in every phone in the note and in the s21 the same i checked many phones all the same maybe people not look for every small thing, but i like it to be perfect .
so i find what is the problem with this lag in s21 and the ultra ,the problem is the adaptive hz because sometimes the adaptive put your phone in 60hz and not all the time 120hz when the phone on lock screen its 60hz or lower then when you unlock its not put the phone on 120hz fast so thers the little annoying lag but in the 2.5 ui its work perfect ,so im happy ,and by the way you all should read the s21 ultra xda thread about heating problem guys im telling you i had the phone and when you lunch the camera app omg its start to overheating in less then min
or if you open facebook and surf it ,less the 3 min the screen dim very much because overheating.
i know ouer note is heating too im just live it in sunlight for 3 min the screen dim and the phone become hot ,but hey dont leave it in hot place lol trust me our note is the best phone for today trust me i had the s21 ultra !
the camera good you dont need 100 times zoom its insane and cant be used and the screen is perfect and exact same like the s21 ultra the only diffrence is the square shape that i like best..so any way enjoy your note phone and stay healthy all

I might try the dialing it back to 10+2.5 because of you and a few others have done it or seriously considering it! I remember jumping right in to the beta program when it became available and of course you expect the issues that come with that! Prior to that I don't remember ANY ISSUES with the lagging or running hot?! Hey, it's a good backup, a data wipe, and a patched-odin flash after f/w download to jog my memory...that might be a "oh, it's on" for tonite. In fact, after this dialog I'm going forward with the prep work on that note (no pun intended, lol)! I can always allow the upgrade if I see there's no change from what's running now under the hood! Heck, I've been bored to death lately...I've needed a project so allow me to say, Thank You, my friend!!

As long as the bootloader is the same or higher than the ROM installed, 5h number from the right on the build number, then you can just flash using ODIN without tripping KNOX. If the number of the ROM you want to install is LOWER than the number in the ROM you have then you are just [email protected]#$ out of luck as you will only get bootloops or stuck on Samsung logo until you flash the rom with the higher bootloader number again...

I had the same laggy feeling on 3.0 but 3.1 solved everything for me.
It runs smooth exactly like 2.5 with no choppy animation or anything.
I recommend factory reset if you decide to update again.

G981U1UEU1DUB7 - green number is the bootloader number. If the ROM you want to flash has the same (or lower) number it should work... Unless Samsung have changed up things since the last update...
Regardless, as long as you are flashing you're regional ROM, making sure you are getting a Snapdragon ROM, as you have a Snapdragon device, you can flash the old ROM back if something goes wrong.
Make sure to flash Home_CSC to retain data as using the CSC file will factory reset your phone.

Just want to add some comments about n20u vs s21u
I currently have both the devices. Looks like with the One UI 3.1 all the lag has gone.
Both the devices are super snappy. No lag anywhere at all and a big upgrade from the note 9, I had
I use the n20u most of the time as I also love the screen of note than s21.
Note screen is much bigger due to the square edges and being a bit wider.
I use adaptive refresh on both devices and there is no visible difference between
fhd+ and wqhd+
I use a dpi of 576 and still looks nice.
Spen-The experience of using spen with note is much different from s21u. The ability to carry the spen within the phone is a big plus as I like using my phone naked.
In terms of the SD card: I had a 512gb SD card for a long time but after getting s21u, I do not miss it. I have the 512gb version and it has plenty of space. I also do not have to worry about the data in the SD card, in case I loose the phone.
Overall both are great devices. For my use N20u has an advantage over s21u.
I might consider selling the s21u soon before it looses a lot of value.
I do no have and sd card

This is great news that 3.1 resolved it. Thank you for reporting back.
Do you also know if the screen overheating issues have been resolved as well?

Is OMNIA 2 Worth it??

Hi all,
I am thinking of selling my Xperia X1, that still is a great phone, but I wanted something faster.
I am considering Omnia 2, because of the battery life. As it carries the same battery capacity as Xperia, I would like to know how it performs.
My other choice was HTC HD2, but when I heard that I could not be sure it would even last me one day, I started looking for something different.
I want a WM phone, as all the programs I have (like GPS Tomtom) run on WM and I am used to it right now.
When I read some reviews about Omnia 2, I got the impression that the Samsung skin is slow and not very useful. I would like to ask if there are some good ROMS for it that solve the problem, and if you think it is worth moving from X1 to Omnia 2, or should I just go HD2.
Thank you all for the input.
UI performance with rom that my O2 shipped (I8000NIL5) was poor. Every time you switched screen widgets reloaded and this took time - just watch some review video and you will know what am I talking about.
Now I am using I8000NJD3 rom (by the way, it is WM 6.5.3) and UI runs smoothly. It is really a big difference! Plus you can choose between widgetplus and samsung today home screens (like work and life mode with B7610). Samsung's cube and main menu are gone but if you ask me they were useless. Also all the programs are updated but there is still room for enhancements.
For me, battery lasts for 2 days - hour or two of conversation, few messages and some web browsing using wi-fi. Decent performance I think.
Well with heavy use I can not get through all day without charging but that is the story with all phones on market.
You mentioned GPS program. It takes few minutes to get a fix on cold start on a sunny day.
And, when I bought a new phone I was choosing between O2 and HD2 too. Decided for O2 because I got it for ahalf of HD2's price (talking about carrier's price, not retail!). I am pretty satisfied with decision.
I had the same choice as well and chose the O2 over the HD2.
I am happy with my little "Sammy" as well.
Mr Frog
I think my Omnia 2 (i920) battery has only died once since having the phone since December. I use internet and messaging pretty heavily daily. I have no problem getting a day to two days worth out of a full charge.
The samsung widget interface isn't the best, definitely laggy and widgets are unresponsive or disappear at times.. but that's why I don't use it
There are tons of other UI's though, the one I've been using and like the best is throttle launcher..
The thing I like most about Omnia 2 is the swype keyboard, makes typing really fast once you get used to it.
The one issue I have had with this phone is that incoming phone calls or text messages will sometimes go unnoticed. That is because the ringer will not sound, yes even when volume is on full. It seems a lot of other people have been having this problem too.. It happens about 40% of the time and is rather annoying.
If I had a choice between HD2 and this phone I would definitely not purchase this one again. Overall it is a good phone, I am just tired of Omnias (had Omnia i910 too). They seem to be late to market with features and so on, not really ahead of the curve..

Never had this problem. But I have I8000, not I920.
out of the box this phone (i8000) is a peace of **** that you will just want to throw away. But thanks to cookers that issue is solved this phone dose everything you need. Using a custom lite ROM i get around 100MB of usable memory vs the 40MB on stock. I read many reviews on this phone as well and was a bit worried about it but took the plunge and could not be happier, the fact it had such bad reviews made it that much more cheaper when i went to purchase a new phone. So in the end it was a great deal for me and the hardware is still amazing for this phone, yeah it not your 1GHz snapdragon but still good enough. I just hope samsung do not forget out this phone and continue to support it, mainly adding openGL support. They have been very good with updates thus far and now its 6.5.3 so it getting better.
This phone has 2 major problems
1.) Low RAM which can be fixed by using a lite ROM, although i hope future updates reduce the reserved RAM.
2.) OpenGL driver, this phones dose not have any. I did not take this into account when i bought the phone. I thought it would just work and all apps won't have any issues and i was wrong. There are devs working on the drivers like chainfire and they do fix many apps like sences and the such but again its not fully featured drivers.
So if you buy this phone you will have to flash and tweak it to get a everyday usable phone.
p.S wtf how do you guys have swype as the default keyboard?

Only I920 has Swype preinstalled.
ohh i wonder if i can get my hands on a cab
Thank you very much for the input. It was very helpful to see what users think about their devices. It makes me sad to see such a great phone, with an OLED screen and a big batterylife, with such poor software. I like WM phones, and I do not think I will switch to android that fast, but the only usable WM phone is HD2 and that has a battery life of an hybrid car (2km just on battery). If you use it moderatly it will not even last you one day.
I hope that this phone will at least have good gps tracking, better batt life, and that with a custom rom it will be faster then my Xperia X1.
If anyone wants to add something new about this phone, just post it here.

Many here currently using kydkylin sence ROM although its a bit slow still a lot faster then stock, just avoid using the music tab if you want to keep RAM usually have 50-60MB after full day. Or if you want the litest ROM there is tw2 JE1 gives around 103MB on boot.
Thanks a lot.

As said there, roms mentioned there are made by Samsung but can't get them via PC Studio, so I don't know if I can say that this is official upgrade (decide by yourself ).

out of the box this phone (i8000) is a peace of **** that you will just want to throw away.

I quite agree with most points made here, but there's a lot more to this phone than what you get out of the box.
Once you've registered on this and Modaco's forum the possibilities are virtually endless with the i8000.
When I first got this phone I nearly sent it back because of the lagging and I fancied an Android device( I still hunker after the Galaxy S now ) but I have stuck with the i8000 and I am very happy with it thanks to the great people cooking roms out there!
Omnia II is wonderful
I think this phone need excellent people to cook for it. I'm waiting for Energy ROMs to come.
* The camera is realy nice with alot of features to make nice pictures.
* Video recording is wonderful with 720 pixels recording. "I used daiamond, touch pro & HD from HTC. I will tell you it is wonderful and the difference is big.
* The samsung applications are nice and you will see tha the samsung taste is there in all applications. Sometimes you will forget yourself as being using WM!!. It is another taste.
* The battery is really having good life of more than one day for sure
* The processor is 800, the screen is much better then that of HTC.
* Samsung is producing official firmware nearly every month and although it was originally coming with wm 6.1 but it is officially upgradable to 6.5
* with the new firmware coming last July the free ram is nice. With good cooking it will go more.
* The performance is rely fast and rarly you need to do soft reset.
In summary, When excellent cooking coms to this device it will be more wonderful.
Thanks

Thank You Samsung.. A small MM review

Im really enjoying the new MM 601 update on my S6 Edge...
This is entirely from my own Opinion, so feel free to chime in with any comments..
In the beginning.. the edge features were very limited to a Night Clock, a gimmicky multi-coloured contacts ringer and a few tickers, but now after the 601 update.. the Edge has become so much more worth it over the vanilla S6..
FINALLY, SS have included access to all apps to use on your side swipe edge.. like the Note Edge and the Edge plus..
Sleep battery life has been improved .. (although im still testing this)
Theyve removed more apps for you to add yourself.
(S6 always had this) Nice to see SS are now including MS Office apps as an option to Google Drive (OneDrive suite is far better for using it on any device)
Finally, we now have Shutter Speed (Edge Plus) and improved camera and UI features..
The 4G modem reception has been inproved, here in the UK on EE, I was getting 0 or 1 bar on 4G, now Im getting 3 - 4 bars.. which is great, but this varies from region to region, but here its better.
Sadly though, as of yesterdays edge app update 28/2.. they removed the Night Clock.. Why?- EDIT: Its in settings, not Edge, my bad
Your stuck with Yahoo news, so far I havent found away to change to another app..
Theyve removed the nice Lock screen swipe effects, not a biggy IMO, but I liked it..
So all in all, Ide say that the MM update is a great update to the S6 Edge and IMO, makes the Edge a much more attractive buy over the S6, so great work Samsung... BUT
Its took Samsung a whole year to get here, which IMO, these features shouldve been in the Edge since 511, I understand they had to make the Edge Plus
(we didnt get the Note 5 here in UK) an attractive buy as well, and obviously.. as the S6 has now been replaced by the S7, theyre giving the Edge everything..
but really SS.. a Whole Year,
Anyway Good work Samsung..
You can find Night clock on display settings not on edge screen

Agreed.. Its the first Ive ever been Impressed by a Samsung update EVER... I know when Android switched to the ART file system in Lollipop, it was a huge improvment for everyone.. but Sammy have just struggled with performance.. until now.
Plus with the likes of One Plus, Motorolla, LG and now newbies Huawei offering some better and cheaper alternatives... Samsung cant really afford to just push out half baked updates, they gotta get their game face on... and lets just hope they dont try and pull another Apple with the S7 (SD Card back and bigger battery) coz it might just cost them even more than just a few lower quarter sales like it did with the S6..
What is the status of memory consumption in MM update?
After playing with themes stuck at bootloop and after hard reset I do not have the same ui experience as before.
My device turns a little lugy....
Is it just me but the photos I took from Lollipop is much better than from the MM?
Its a little grainy when I upgraded to MM. Anyone experiencing the same thing?
Hi,
after the update i dont have the option to have weather on the lockscreen, neither the steps and google now on tap doesnt seems to be present. Anyone with the same problems ? Any Fix ?
I'm on Vodafone RO.
Thanks

Cant say Ive noticed this.. flashed MM out of the box so..
Its supposed to be a batter camera experience all round.. I read anyway (Taken from the Edge Plus).. we now have Shutter Speed and a Kelvin (ala LG G4) for White Balance, which incidentally, they set it the wrong way round.. hehe, nice one SS. (slide it into the Blue section and the screen goes Yellow or warmer.. and vice versa), thats easily fixed though
Your right JurGGen.. No weather, although if you goto settings > Lock Screen and Security > Notifications on LockScreen .. Weather is there in the list, but maybe it only shows when theres Snow or Rain.
Theres a Weather App in the Samsung Apps Store.. Its under Updates.. ... find it under LockScreen security.,.. That might help, but dont know... Never been one for Weather on Lockscreen.

How do you guys can live with the lag on the exynos version ( not trolling ) ?

A week ago I got myself a s8 ,I have an iPhone 7 Plus and I’m so sick of having to deal with this size , it feels like a brick, plus I don’t like the “psysical button “ , I wanted to get rid of it so I gave the s8 a try , and so I did and I loved the design , the screen , the camera ( night shots are better than the iPhone 7 in my opinion ) but the performance is just awful , innaceptable for a flagship , choppy scrolling , the framerate skips like crazy sometimes , it just ... lags :/
I couldn’t believe it after reading the rave reviews , so it turns out that the European version has the Exynos cpu instead of the snapdragon 835 and the benchmarks don’t tell the whole story , I tried uninstalling unnecessary apps , deactivating bloat apps , deactivating the side panel , using nova launcher ( without using root or freezing apps or something like that , but it didn’t help , did you guys just get used to the lag ? :/ have you read that the performance on the note 8 is better (the example version of course ) and if it is , so you think it’s because of the extra ram ?
I’m hopeful that Samsung will make the performance better with the Oreo update but that update will probably come in December / January , what are we supposed to do until then ?
Coming from a Huawei Mate 9 and resently activating my note 8(snapdragon) it ain't much better. Nothing about this phone is butter smooth.
Will be getting mate 10 next month. First Samsung since note 3/4.
Not horrible but expected more with specs/company
I honestly don´t know what you are talking about. Maybe I just don´t notice it.
I know up to the Galaxy S6 the Samsung Flagships were always lagging like crazy with StockROMs, but at least since the S7 it´s smooth like other Flagships. (Always talking about Exynos)
Where do you experience the lag? I just checked Twitter, Menus and browser an couldn´t notice any
I use Nova Launcher, which definitely improves the experience a lot. Combined with changing animations to 0.5x it almost never feels laggy. I rarely switch back to TouchWiz to see if it has improved, but always end up going back to Nova. I also use Gboard instead of Samsung keyboard, which also feels snappier and has better prediction.

Same here ! No more lag with this setup
I have the dual SIM international version (Exynos) since around launch date. I don't recall any instances of lag. On rare occasions there is the odd app crash.
I have not used an iPhone for any length of time to be able to compare, but we have a couple of iPads, one of them is relatively new and when using it for general browsing, reading, etc, I don't feel that I get a markedly better or smoother experience. Both S8 and iPad just work very well.

I have an iphone 7 256gb Red Edition and my S8 is no more laggy than my iphone, yes iphone can lag too. BTW, iphone is for sale. You need to be more specific where you see lags if you want people to help. I get lag when scrolling on Piano Tiles 2 but that's because he's a ****ty developer but the game is awesome. Need way more details.
I have exynos version with custom rom and i have no lags. If you what have fone with no lags at all buy iPhone. Every android have Little lags and glitches.
DEVELOPER OPTIONS (see screenshot) transition animation speed 0.5x
I read a post in the Essential Phone forum:

To make it more snappy, go into developer options and set the transition speed to .5 instead of 1. That should make things seem to zip."
I've attached a screenshot, but my transition animation speed is still at default 1x (i.e., not the 0.5x recommendation).

its more like the screen "trembles" , they just don't feel smooth , it feels like the phone it's at its limit, it's just "choppy"
Facebook is a horrible app regarding optimization. I also noticed horrible lags there. Ended up uninstalling and i am now using it via chrome and its great. No lags, bettet battery etc.
I dont use twitter but instagram is fine on me no lags at all. As for playstore nothing can be done about it. It was always that way.

All of this + youtube hdr playback above 720p. Seriously it should be fixed or bye bye samsung this time.
P.S The ``tremble`` is called stuttering and if you search from google you will found tons of users having exactly the same issue. In my oppinion the exynos processor throttles a lot due to overheating. Cant proove it though cause am no specialist on this matter

No lag for me, if there was then I wouldn't have the phone, I am EXTREMELY demanding. But then I dont have **** apps like twitter and facebook that are VERY badly written and drain the battery like theres no tomorrow. I also use nova so cant comment on whether any lag might be touchwiz related, not used touchwiz since my S3.

Weird thing-- I'm using one of the YouTube background play-enabled apps.. God I wish I could remember which one, but I got it here. Has some theme options, using one with a back background. I experience absolutely no lag with 1440phdr with this app.. No such luck with the base Youtube app
After cleaning up as many services as possible with Package Disabler, the rest of my interface lag has vanished (even in TouchWiz)
Last couple days have seemed like I have finally found the device the S8 is supposed to be, buried under the inefficient bloat and bogus it ships with.. Of course, I'm on the 835, so this may not have meant anything to begin with haha

Snapdragon isint much better either. My roommate got a pixel 2 XL and his phone is smoother (with all apps running) than my freshly factory reseted S8.
i just changed my iphone 7 with s8 exynos , i see no different in performance , in fact i loved s8 more , i can't deny that s8 have a little of lags but from my experience ios has lags too , i have 6:30H screen on time in my s8 , i never dreamed about that in my iphone 7 , in iphone I only got 5H screen on time
This is assuming the iPhone 7 suffered no lag or stutters under iOS 11. I came from the iPhone 7 and use to notice stutters while scrolling through contact lists and even the home button had delays. I've got Nova Launcher set up on my current S8 and stock rom with tons of apps and never formatted since I've been using it for the past 3months. I won't lie I did come across occasional stutters but I find it way more fluid than the experience I had on iOS. The list scrolling, app animations, etc is really smooth.

I agree to a certain extent. I used the Xperia XZ1 Compact for a month on Android 8.0. The interface felt faster than the S8 given the same developer options. You can speed up the S8 if you want by lowering the screen resolution (settings>display). But then you wouldn't have the higest (other than S7) screen DPI ever seen on a phone.

[Q] New Samsung Note 4 owner, things I should know?

HI all.
I'm a new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 owner! Recently upgraded from a Note 3. Phones are years old but are decently priced and still good phones when you're not looking for something too fancy.
Honestly, the Note 3 was the best phone I've ever had and was looking forward to a Note 4 upgrade (was looking forward to the fingerprint scanner, even if not the best, and to the metal edges)
Now, I'd just like to ask for a few pointers on this device. Any custom ROM suggestions? Anything I should know about?
I am doing my fair share of research, I've been reading a lot of posts regarding this device, posts that are months old, posts that are years old and I've gotten myself a general idea of what to expect.
But I think even with all this reading, I probably won't be able to compare what I learn from these posts to someone that has owned a Note 4 for months, possibly years! Which is why I'm posting this thread, to ask those who have had this device for a longer time and will probably continue to use it for a longer time since this phone is amazing!
I just want to ask you Note 4 owners, if you bought a brand new Note 4, what set-up will you prefer? Custom ROM? Stock ROM? Any kernels you would flash?
I know the best ROM will always be stock ROM, but is there any worth-while N7 ports for the Note 4? I'm a big fan of the off-screen memo, the smart screen capture (scroll and screen-recording that records gifs) and also enjoy tweaking the kernel (overclock) for smoother game performance. I've also read that the most common problem with ports is the fingerprint scanner. I'll probably end up doing the work-around since no custom ROM has gotten this fixed (from what I read it's almost impossible without leaving a lot of the stock ROM's assets which defeat the point of a custom ROM).
Currently, I am downloading stock EQI2 6.0.1 which is the latest firmware for the N910T variant. I know that the T-Mobile variant has it's own forum but I usually see that the "Samsung Galaxy Note 4" thread is the most active and sometimes includes things for the T-Mobile variant (was the same case with the Note 3, the T-Mobile forum was dead and the international forum was alive and well)
It's running 5.0.1 software right now, hopefully 6.0.1 is better.
Thank you for your time!
I kindly invite you to try the unified trlte build linked in the [ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] [7.1.2] LineageOS 14.1 [SM-N910F/G/P/R4/T/T3/V/W8] thread.

Thanks for your input, I am currently trying out a Note 7 ROM port, but if it doesn't work out I will try it out
Personally, I prefer to run the stock OS that comes pre-installed on my device and update the OS to the latest version provided by the manufacturer. As I know for a fact that Custom 3rd Party OSs do not have the best post imaging software. Which hinders the performance of the camera sensor on your device.

Been snooping around and messing with a couple of custom ROM's either with Note 7/8 features and S7 Edge/S8.
I really like the look overall to the stock Note 4 UI, but I seem to have a very bad luck with random reboots and some features missing (fingerprint) or not working (night clock).
I was really afraid my phone was doomed with the eMMC failure I keep reading about that plagued the Note 4, but I don't have any problems running stock.
Yup, I guess my motto came true. "The best ROM is always STOCK ROM", even if it looks a bit out-dated.
I'm currently running stock and a custom kernel I found for stock MM. I'm pleased with the results so far, just kind of wish I could boot straight in to camera with double HOME press
Best advice I can give you , owning the phone for 2,5 years, is to never use quick charge and never update the phone or flash custom roms while the phone is being charged.

I did read about it, I just wasn't sure what was the root cause for it. So I guess fast charge is the culprit? Every place I read this people seemed to blame an update either from KK to LL, or from LL to MM. Wow... I gotta think about this one. One of the reasons I love this phone over my Note 3 is because of the quick charge. Man :/
Gotta think about trading that feature in for... you know... a FUNCTIONAL PHONE

IMO the culprit was a heavy update(eg. from lollipop to Marshmallow) being installed , while the phone was pluged in being quickcharged.
This pushed the temperatures to exceed the max threshold of a bad emmc solder on the motherboard on some specific batches of the note 4.

So you think regular quick charge should be fine? The phone doesn't heat up with regular quick charge, so I really hope it's safe. I know that just to be safe, I shouldn't use quick charge. But I guess I'll roll the dice.
I updated from LL to MM via Odin, so it wasn't quick charging :victory:

In my case , my phone gets really warm while being quickcharged even if I am not using it at all.
I live in a warm place though!
If you want to use quickcharge , I suggest you go ahead and use it but without using the phone during the charge.

I have an exynos version so can't tell you much about the snapdragon versions (also never heard of emmc problems on exynos devices, the only problem I have is IR blaster stopped working some update ago and never worked again since), but here's little general advice :
Stock ROM is perfectly reliable and very smooth with little customization :
I recommend a package disabler app like EZ disabler to get rid of bloat. I disable anything that doesn't have a clear use for me . If something breaks functionality I enable it back.
If you don't want to root you can use adhel to block ads in very efficient way .
If you do want to root I recommend magisk . It's the best way to do it because if anything goes wrong you can just uninstall it and everything is fine again , it doesn't affect system partition.
Also system less xposed works great if you use the proper version . I love youtube background mod.
In my experience you should never use apps that claim to save battery like amplify/greenify etc . (In some cases they drain the battery even faster with their continuous background services) The better way to save power is to not install power hungry apps in the first place or disable them with EZ disabler . Also disable animations and just disable functions when you don't use them : Sync/Location /Bluetooth etc .
Last but not least : download and use Samsung game booster : it's amazing for our old gpus : you can lower resolution/frame rates to make games more playable and battery last longer .
These were my quick tips . Hope you enjoy your new phone !

Last but not least : download and use Samsung game booster : it's amazing for our old gpus : you can lower resolution/frame rates to make games more playable and battery last longer .
These were my quick tips . Hope you enjoy your new phone !

The only small problem I have with stock is that it looks outdated. I know visuals are the least you should look for in a ROM, should be more worried about stability and battery life, but I simply can't deny that visually, stock TW UI bothers me.
But I guess I'll have to get used to it anyway since all the ROMs I've tried have issues here and there, but most importantly I get random shut downs and reboots with most custom ROMs and I lose the fingerprint scanner.
As for games, I heavily play a game called Shadowgun Deadzone. It's not that graphics heavy, but I need it to run smooth. I haven't tried Samsung's game booster, I've only messed around with custom kernels and changing the CPU governor, overclocking, etc... and it runs fine for a little while, but starts chugging after a few minutes in.
If the game booster can fix this, heck I can stick with stock ROM without any problems.
When you say it looks outdated
Are you talking about the launcher?
If so why not try the many other launchers out there? Like nova launcher..

A launcher can only do so much. I'm referring to mostly on things like the notification drawer, the settings and stuff like that.

A little disappointed about the performance

Hi there,
I am now using my RN7 (3/32) for about a week and I am really disappointed about the perfomance. I had a P9Lite and a Moto Z Play before, both phones did start Apps way faster than the RN7. I also have little lags when scrolling e.g. in Nova launcher or the system setting. Is this normal that a 2 year old phone with half as much antutu score as the RN7 is faster? Or do I have to change anything?
Phone is not rooted, all on stock and I also did a factory reset two times. The unlock is requested but I have to wait for 168 hours.
Thank you and with best reguards.

Stock MIUI is kinda laggy with lots of bloatwares. If you compare those phones, make sure to take into account of their hardware specs and default softwares.
You can search for how to make MIUI run more smoothly.
Thank you, I replaced the phone now by a Poco F1.

Haha, now that is A solution !
My Note 7 fell into the sea, so I changed it with another Poco. Now my Huawei Mate screen is screwed up, I had an excuse to get another Note 7, but this time from online, so much cheaper from China.
I think the Note 7 is very good, but I had it rooted, and unbloated, and other stuff.
Dont see why for me it performs really well, just have to optimize it, unlock bootloader root custom ROM and custom kernel
My 24/7 settings Alucardshed governor limited to 300-2150
HW Prime
Antutu
I also had a antutu of about 142000, this seems to be normal and also okay for the phone. My biggest problem was, that there very little lags when scrolling in the menu or e.g. Nova launcher. Also switching between apps took really long, not because of a lack of memory more because of the apps were closed too fast and had to be reloaded really often. When you turn the phone on and want to have a quick look on faceboo, the app har to reload nearly every time. I know this is high-level moaning, but it just drove me crazy.
The phone is okay, you always have to keep in mind how much it costs. But I did expect more from it as in Germany it was praised as the midclass-killer phone.

Every device is great when you know how to tweak it. As you replaced your RN7 with a Poco F1, this thread can be closed.
