For others when installing oos update; disable magical modules, install oos update, before restarting install Magisk to both slots using the app, reboot, enable modules if any.

Are you sideloading the zip, or maybe when you downloaded the magisk zip, your Mac automatically unzipped it so you now have a directory.
I haven't used this root method, but I use Macs once in a while, and that's one of my annoyances with one of the Macs I use.

You have to just make sure you have the magisk zip file instead of an unzipped version. Next time I'm working on a mac, I can play around to see if I can replicate your problem.

I finally had some time to try this out on a Mac and everything worked out for me. I couldn't get the same error message you were getting. I did use Magisk v22 though. The only thing you'll have to do is rename the .apk to .zip.

There are two methods to root Android N .
Method 1
Flash the Supersu.zip from custom recovery.
RC-SuperSU-v2.69-20160313161431.zip
Method 2
This method will work without custom recovery , just download it and go the fastboot and follow the steps .
CF-Auto-Root-bullhead-bullhead-nexus5x-NPC56P.zip
Just download the file
Extract it
reboot your Nexus 5X into bootloader
Now open the root-windows(If you are using windows otherwise select the file which is for your operating system)
Now the command window will open and ask you to enter any key to continue
Then press any key from your keyboard and it will automatically done the remaining process and your phone will reboot
If you device got bootloop then poweroff the device once and power on manually
Thats it you will see the SuperSu icon .
If you like hit the thanks ......
how do you get access to the files on your phone to flash this. I have twrp flashed but it wont get access to any files that are actually on phone so I can not flash SUPSERSU?

You should download the original ROM of your phone and then rename the file AP_A205xxxxxxxx.md5 to AP_A205xxxxxxxx.rar and extract it. Copy boot.img.lz4 file to your android phone. Use the app ZArchiver to Extract file boot.img.lz4. output boot.img file. then use Magisk manerger patch to create the patched boot.img file
I think downloading the original ROM only takes about 20 minutes. If the root error occurs, use it to reload the phone firmware.

Root SM-A205YN
What I've done so far
1. Download magisk manager apk
2. Download June update rom for phone from Samfrew https://samfrew.com/model/SM-A205YN/region/VAP/ (original not available for my model through samfirmware.net
3. Use zarchiver to copy AP_205xxxxxxxx.md5 to download directory. It will extract it from the zip.
4. Rename AP_205xxxxxxxx.md5 to AP_205xxxxxxx.rar and extract using zarchiver
5. Copy boot.img.Iz4 to download directory and extract (resulting in boot.img)
6. Use magisk manager to patch boot.img (use top install) result magisk_patched.img
7. Rename magisk_patched.img to boot.img
9. Use zarchiver to compress boot.img to boot.tar
What I will do next
10. Copy boot.tar to pc
11. On phone developer options in settings unlock OEM and enable usb debugging
Edit: unlock bootloader
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgDS9K7JCrk
12. Turn phone on download mode

14. Use JOdin (Mac version of Odin) to add boot.tar to phone (use PDA)
15. Restart phone
16. Hold power and vol+ to enter recovery mode.
17. Select wipe/reset data
18. Restart phone
19. Run magisk manager
20. If green phone is rooted.
21. Of red select install/direct install
22. Advanced tick both.
23. Install root checker and verify root
I'm still waiting for some courage.
Anyone have a resolution for this? I have searched, but can't find an answer.

Sorry I should have done a better job clarifying. It WiFi does not turn on, on my phone with Magisk installed. It does with it removed. The icon goes through the process but never turns on.

Twrp but what he recommends hear overwrites my rom removing magisk. When I reflash magisk it's the same issue.
I'll look into sick installer.
Dont know the exact reason but custom kernal installation fixing it.
I fixed it by running the update through the local upgrade again. It fixed it after one local upgrade with standard magisk upgrade steps.

10.1 flashing a custom kernel then Magisk and I have no WiFi issues. It is some conflict with standard OnePlus 6t kernel.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/ultimateguide-t4004367
Take a look at this...
Payload dumper
You have to use payload dumper. Extract Payload dumper after You downloaded it in a folder. Download the lastest 6t Stock Android zip file 10.0.1, extract it and take out the payload.bin file,
put it in the input folder of payload dumper and start payload dumper. Wait some time. Now in the Output folder take out the boot.img and send it trough Your phone, install Magisk in Your phone. It is still uninstalled now and it will remain unistalled now. Tap on install where Magisk is uninstalled and still Red, again tap on install and choose patch a file, it will open Your Filemanager on Your phone, choose the destination of Your boot.img. and tap on Your boot.img file.
Now magisk will flash it. After that look in Your download folder, there You will find the file magisk_patched.img, save it on Your PC. Start Your phone in to the fastboot mode and flash in minimal-adb-or-fastboot the magisk_patched.img.
You have to write fastboot flash boot. Now drag and drop the magisk_patched.img in to the window, so it will look like this:
fastboot flash boot "C:\Users\(Your Username)\Downloads\magisk_patched.img"
Hit enter, just some seconds and it is done. Now write fastboot reboot and hit enter. The phone reboots and Wifi also appears and the sound is working. You have to do it again when the next update appears. Maybe Android Oxygen OS 10.0.2
I am wondering about the next updates from android 11 (R), 12 (S), 13 (T). If it will work the same till Fuchsia OS is coming out and we will say good bye to Android and maybe goodbye to custom ROMs.
But PC Games on the Phone would be a tasty thing because Fuchsia OS is supporting APKs and EXEs too.
Have Fun.

I ran through the standard upgrade process for root.
Uninstall Magisk and restore original images
update through settings > local upgrade with the full ota zip
install magisk to inactive slot. That keeps magisk installed and should let you reinstall the update.
