I hope we can make xiaomi treat redmi 3/s users as equals compared to mi serie users (as u can see, redmi users have much less feature in camera app and worse software support compared to mi serie users)
Hi,
I am pretty new to the Xiaomi- and especially to the Mediathek-world. This is why I have this noob question :silly:
Is the Redmi Pro currently the top smartphone by Xiaomi, at least hardware-wise?
Of course, besides Mi5/S, which run the SD 820/821...
Or is e.g. the Note 4 the stronger device, or any other? As far as I know, the Redmi-line is more a budget-thing, right?
Thx for any info on this! :highfive:
Best
P
Redmi Pro is known as the Xiaomi Redmi's flagship and that means It is the strongest of the Redmi's even that it is Mediatek powered . mediatek disadvantage is that they does not release sources (which is needed for compiling custom roms and kernels) and the Snapdragon release its sources thats because snapdragon devices are the most wanted and that means bigger price but weaker phone. redmi pro's helio x20 or x25 is compared to snapdragon 810 and and its very close to sd 820. Redmi note 4 has the same chip (x20) but isnt better than redmi pro.Redmi note 4 PRO has a sd652 and that means it has more development for that device.
If you want a phone with a lot development buy redmi note 4 PRO --- if you want a stronger phone buy REDMI PRO.
PS: the best xiaomi for now is MI MIX (the bezelles device
Thank you very much! My times of ROM-hopping are over...my current S7 is not even rooted...so I guess the Redmi Pro will be my first try on the chinese devices (Huawei P9 would be interesting, too, but I am searching for a bigger phone)
I have checked the Mix, it looks gorgeous and I would love to get my hands on this, but the price is far from what I invest in smartphones normally...
So, next step is checking the int. Xiaomi-ROM for the Pro, how to install and what to expect...
The best xiaomi device now is mi5, mi mix, mi note 2.
S7 has much better camera. Redmi Pro is not considered as flagman.
Xiaomi has better models like Mi5.
Even so I would prefare Redmi Pro because of OLED display.
But now Im having trouble with flashing ROM as it doesn't has official global vertion. So you need to apply for unlock bootloader and wait. Some people wait more than 10 days.
It's a good phone but with some really annoying hang ups. ( performance in general is good to very good with occasional lag due to bad core switching, screen is nice although a tad dim for outdoor use, build quality is great)
First of all the camera is a complete waste of time and this appears to be a software issue as the sensor it's self is capable of taking decent photographs. But it's honestly one of the worst smart phone cameras I've used and I've used a lot.
If you've ever used a blackberry in 2010-2011 that's the sort of quality so expect only at higher resolutions.
Second of all Xiaomi appears to have abandoned further development for the device ( no news on 7.0)
Also its missing wireless n support which is just weird, doesn't bother me oh so much as I rarely transfer files over WiFi but still an odd omission.

He said the flagship for the xiaomi redmi series not xiaomi mi series
It has come to my attention that there is a version of Google Camera HDR+ that works with S7, S8 and Note8 Snapdragon version and also Exynos.
There is also a Google Camera version that works relatively alright but with a lot of bugs with my Note 5.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/themes/google-camera-hdr-t3687312
Can we somehow encourage some of the custom roms developers for the Note 5 to get on that band wagon so that we have an optimized and nice camera app?
Miui 10 got update with new camera APIs which is gonna be there for all. It is available in China now. I am sure Mi A2 will also get it in coming updates... Then we can enjoy the camera of This phone properly... Please correct if this news is wrong.
MIUI and Google One do not have anything in common, so I can not connect your expectation as relevant.
Incorrect
Right, well I don't know what your situation is with modding your Mi A2, but I discovered that after you've unlocked the bootloader & installed Magisk Root that if the flash this "MiUi Camera All Features" Magisk Module from another thread, this enables The Full level 3 Camera 2 API:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/themes/miui-camara-features-magisk-t3841269
This is a fantastic upgrade over the stock MiA2 camera app in itself. Xiaomi basically gimped the camera's features, as to not upstage much more expensive Xiaomi phones and this releases them such as 4k30p front video recording and enhanced HDR Pro Modes which work brilliantly.
However, the upshot of flashing this enabling Camera 2 is amazing for this reason. Just today I've been testing @Arnova8G2 's port of the Pixel 3 app and the HDR+ Enhanced is next level stuff. Portrait mode, front & back ,is also working fine. RAW file capture is also working. Gonna test out Nightsight tonight. You get a green screen through the viewfinder, but the shots do actually work. Only thing not working for me is slow mo....

Google said that the camera2api is coming with Android Pie. It is not present in the current beta but it might be later.

If you're referring to the 'Camera 2 API Will be enabled in android Pie CONFIRMED' thread, then the following is exactly what was said:
"Starting with Android Pie, newly launching devices are expected to have newer camera HAL versions, which will enable better support for camera2."
Does that include the A2? Because it's not a "newly launching device". And the statement implies, imho, it will be newly launching devices that launch with Pie.
That's not the A2. I wish they would enable it. but that statement above is a reach to believe "Google said that the camera2api is coming with Android Pie". they said newly launching, not upgraded to.
If Xiaomi giving camera 2 API in miui 10 update to its all phone then there is no reason that Xiaomi will not give it to mi A2. I am pretty confident that with the demand and competition Xiaomi will provide this feature to this device shortly.
Don't create a thread affirming something that you have no proof of.
Google is expanding their camera development, and that is the one of the main parts and improvements of PIE it self, to support multi cameras for example, you can read all about that on the official Android PIE page, but that doesn't mean nothing for us, unfortunately.
"Multi-camera support and camera updates
On devices running Android 9, you can access streams simultaneously from two or more physical cameras. On devices with either dual-front or dual-back cameras, you can create innovative features not possible with just a single camera, such as seamless zoom, bokeh, and stereo vision. The API also lets you call a logical or fused camera stream that automatically switches between two or more cameras.
Other improvements in camera include additional Session parameters that help to reduce delays during initial capture, and surface sharing that lets camera clients handle various use cases without the need to stop and start camera streaming. We've also added APIs for display-based flash support and access to OIS timestamps for app-level image stabilization and special effects.
In Android 9 the multi-camera API supports monochrome cameras for devices with FULL or LIMITED capability. Monochrome output is achieved via the YUV_420_888 format with Y as grayscale, U (Cb) as 128, and V (Cr) as 128.
Android 9 also enables support for external USB/UVC cameras on supported devices."

I have Mi A1, they haven't even provided the new camera app of MIUI 10, you are expecting too much, otherwise disappointment is sure.
Guys, by my post I am not affirming anything. I read some news about camera 2 API being enabled by Xiaomi for all its phones by miui 10 update and that has already been released for China.. so I am just trying to say that the probability of getting camera 2 API for this phone are very high now. In android pie or in coming updates we could get it. So no affirmative post but high probability post. Thanks

Mi A1's cameras are a disgrace tho, reason why I waited and got Mi A2.
OP : " I am not affirming anything"
also OP : "API2 will be available for mi a2"

He's right. I saw the thread too in mi community. If Xiaomi enables c2api to Miui devices there's no doubt that they won't enable it to Mi a2

The mods won't bother to change something you can change yourself.
Bring up the original thread, click edit, then click 'Advanced'.
It will then allow you to change the title.
It's (beyond) time for me to get a more current phone. Here's my requirements:
5.2 - 5.5"
rootable (bootloader unlockable)
full 64bit hardware (not just the CPU) + 64bit (ARM) Android
at least 32 GB internal storage, better 64 GB
3 or more GB RAM
13 or more Megapixel camera resolution
precise GPS module for Navigation
natively supporting at least Android 9 for native EdXposed capability, better Android 10
stable custom ROM with active current support available (preferred: LineageOS)
SD card slot (dual sim optional)
needn't be new, can be used
LTE is fine - no need for 5G (5G would be fine thanks to downwards capability with LTE/ 4G)
colors: white, silver, dark green, blue/ lavender (no black)
NOT a Huawei
Do above criteria ring any bell? Which phone(s) would you suggest to me?
just purchased a Nokia 6.1 (aka Nokia 6 2018) for €200

Hi, noticed you already bought your phone, but maybe next time if you need advice, then also mention your budget.
Either way, the Nokia 6.1 isnt a great phone, if you can sell it then I'd recommend going for a Poco M3 (Xiaomi) in the USD220 range, or a Realme C3 if you wanna get cheap (around USD 150). Both are available brand new, they have similar processor performance, large screens, good battery life etc. The Poco M3's camera is much better than the Realme C3's, but thats the price you have to pay to reduce the cost. Both Poco's and Realme's software sucks in my opinion, but you're going to use a custom ROM anyways, so that won't be an issue for you. Android 12 is available through custom ROMs for both phones, and they have plenty of support on XDA.
Hi @PhotonIce thanks for your recommendations. Both, the Xiaomi Poco M3 and the Realme C3, are 6,5" and exceed my 5.2" - 5.5" size range. I've used a Nokia 6.2 for half a year last year, so I'll see in the next few months how it'll smaller sibling will perform. My needs are rather low, with Navigation apps (Magic Earth, TomTom) setting the top bar for performance (no gaming or such). At this point I can leave making pixel-sharp photos of UFOs to others ..
Oops, sorry my bad, thought it said 6.2-6.5inch range
Though in that range, I'd still highly recommend the Mi Note 3 (if you can get it). It has a much better SoC, a 12mp camera with OIS and a 12mp telephoto, and a 16mp selfie camera.
indeed nice the Xiaomi Mi Note 3, and even with official and latest LineageOS support. Good to know
[EDIT] not available in Central Europe - closest region here to order from would be UK. Only close sibling available here would be the Xiaomi Mi A1 (Mi 5X).
The mi a1 isnt as impressive, I guess it's best if you keep your nokia
Also the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 doesn't have a headphone jack.

True, but you didn't mention that in your list of requirements, so you can't really blame me for that.
oh @PhotonIce don't feel blamed at all - I was just stating the missing jack as a fact. I 100% appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us here
