Absolutely yes!!!
Will that work for the SM-S515DL (Straight Talk/Tracfone) variant?
If I follow the steps and flash recovery 'disabler vb meta.tar' file I get an message:
'Only official release binaries are allowed to be flashed (RECOVERY)
Additionally I can not find the file twrp-a51-3.5.0_10-1_ianmacd.tar being refered to in the video
In the files provided there is a twrp-a51-3.5.0_10-4_ianmacd.img
Any clue please?
i accidentally checked auto-reboot and now my phone is stuck in a splash screen. Cant seem to boot into downloadmode or recovery, can anyone please help me?
/sdcard or /data/media/0/ for some reason doesn't seem to show the correct contents of the "Internal Storage" at TWRP, it instead shows folders with random names. Is this a bug with TWRP? Or is the /sdcard partition corrupted from the Format Data when installing Magisk?? I did manage to install Magisk and got my phone back to a working state with root, but TWRP not showing the correct contents of /sdcard can cause me confusion + will not let me do a backup anyways

So my /sdcard is currently under encryption and to solve it I have to Format Data again?
Is this working with android 11 ui3.1?
Does the device still need to be booted with the button combo every time to enable root?
Hi, I think I messed up the key combo from step 7 and now my phone is stuck at Stuck on bootloop and can't be turned off. how should I proceed. ( I tried multiple key combos, the only response I get is when I hold down (the power key + vol down) then I am only restarting the phone to the same warning.

The method as you tryed is stock recovery, if you try to enter CWM recovery
after rooted, you must install Defy system recovery
- put system recovery.apk into SD card
- enable(Turn on) Unknown sources and USB debugging in Application settings
- install system recovery.apk from SD card (Use File manager or Root Explorer)
- Open System recovery App and Select Install Recovery system, it will show "Install success"
- Before reboot (Recovery reboot), you must Turn off "USB debugging"
Otherwise, defy will stuck in black screen
OK, If you want to reboot to CWM recovery mode, you can open System recovery App and Select Recovery boot
or Try that

I mistakenly rebooted after wiping cache, dalvik cache and sytem. Now I'm stuck at the moto logo. Is there any way to enter into custom recovery other than the flashing method you specified above?? I was using SlimBean(Slim-4.3.build.2-UNOFFICIAL-2013027-1124) with TWRP v2.6.3.0.

hey guys! first post but I have been lurking here and there before registering.
Sorry if this is the wrong section to post this in. I am trying to root my note 4 and I installed TWRP using Odin. Now when I go into recovery mode to flash SuperSu, it says "no command" with the android guy laying on the floor. I tried the factory reset option and I installed TWRP again but still same problem. I can still load my phone and use it as usual but now I can't go into recovery mode with TWRP and flash supersu to root it. Anyone know how I can fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

What is the model number of your Note 4? When you are at the "no command" screen, try holding the volume up button and then press the power button to take you to recovery. I'd that doesn't work try holding the power button and tapping the volume up button quickly and release all buttons and see if it allows yoj to access recovery. I'd these do not work keep trying different button combinations. I'd you still cannot access the recovery menu you may have to Odin the factory firmware and start over. Let me know what happens.

none of those button combinations work. I will install stock firmware on it again and see if that fixes the recovery.
I had this problem in the past, I think the problem was that when I was installing TWRP via Odin that I had not powered off the phone so it looked like it installed but actually didn't, try taking out the battery and then boot into recovery or download mode whatever it is that is used for Odin and install again

If you cannot get into recovery with any button combination boot to download mode and use Odin to flash all 4 files of the factory firmware. That will give you a fresh start. Let me know how it goes.

Yes it will but it is the most likely way out of your bootloop. Before you wipe, connect your device to your PC and boot to recovery. Once your PC recognizes your device internal storage, transfer everything that you can think of.

So idk if you've gotten it fixed, but what worked for me was: I had been turning on the phone after odin did its thing, and that caused the oem recovery to reinstall itself. So instead of letting odin auto boot be ready to push the volume up button to put it into twrp recovery. I had to remove my battery to keep it from booting fully.
We need to try another time flash. Conditions - old Odin 3.06, configured to remove reboot.

In ODIN go to 'options' and uncheck 'auto-reboot', then flash TWRP. When it's done, it won't reboot, just pull the battery for several seconds, reinsert it and boot into TWRP Recovery.
Enjoy!

Help me please! I did every step you detailed, and I managed to make a nandroid backup with TWRP. But now I am unable to boot back into my system. Every time I click on reboot into system it boots back into TWRP... I did not think that making a backup on TWRP would soft-brick my phone, but it has.

Your backup probably got corrupt. Errors, unfortunately, do happen. You may have to flash this firmware to your device to get it working.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-J700P/
Mine did the same thing. I flashed with flashfire booted into twrp made a backup then tried booting into system but it just reboots me back into recovery.. i flashed just the stock recovery afterwards and it booted right into system.. i tried wiping system data cache internal storage dalvix cache then restoring the backup but it still booted into twrp instead of system. Like i did say it did boot right into system after flashing the stock recovery.
Works

Thanks a lot man that worked. Really do appreciate it...:good:
So here are my experiences with rooting the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2019) with S Pen (SM-P205)
First of all i am not responsible for any damages or data loss of your devices. So be aware that you could brick your device!
I tested this on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A with SPEN LTE SM-205. The procedure should be the same for the SM-P200 as this procedure is a general Samsug procedure for 2019 Devices.
But since i dont have one. I cant test this.
As no twrp recovery exists for this device be very carefull!
Before you begin make a backup of your internal storage as it gets deleted several times during this procedure!!!!
Therefore it could be handy to also use a sdcard(wont get deleted) for copying files to/from the device.
But it can also be done without. This howto is based on the magisk manual from topjohnwu.
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html (Samsung System-as-root Section)
Tools needed:
Firmware of your device
Odin3_v3.13.1 Link thanks to Life Companion
Magisk Manager Link thanks to topjohnwu
Samfirm (deprecated but works) Link thanks to zxz0O0
1. Do a software update to the newest version of the firmware.
At the time writing this is P205DXU2ASH2 for my Samsung Galaxy Tab A with SPen LTE (SM-P205)
2. Find out what firmware your device is using and also what's is the region / CSC of your device.
To do that go to settings/About Tablet/Software Information/
Baseband version:
e.g. P205DXU2ASH2
Next Step scroll down to "Service providewr SW ver." and look at your CSC in the last line:
eg. XME/XME/XME -> CSC is XME (Malaysia)
3. Now its time to download the correspondending firnmware for your device. Use SamFirm Tool to download your firmware (Check "Auto". Type in your Model (SM-P205 and your CSC) and download or download it
from the usual Samsung Firmware Download Pages
(eg. SamMobile.com etc)
4. Unzip the downloaded Firwmare with 7zip
5. You will now have 5 Files beginning with their names: AP,BL,CP,CSC and HOME_CSC
These are ODIN flashable files.
6. Download and install the current magisk manager to our device. Also copy the AP File to your devices internal memory or sdcard. Best method for copying is using adb.
Start magisk and click on install. Press a second time install and choose "Select and Patch a File" Choose your copied AP file. Magisk will now patch the image and inject itself.
The patched file can now be found in your Download directory of your internal memory. Its name is magisk_patched.tar. Copy it over to your PC. Again best method is using adb for copying.
7. Bootloader Unlocking:
Quote from the magisk documentation from topjohnwu:
"
Unlocking Bootloader
Normally I wouldn’t provide instructions for this, but since things had changed drastically from previous Samsung devices, and there are some caveats, I figure this would be helpful.
Allow bootloader unlocking in Developer options → OEM unlocking
Reboot your device to download mode. Either use adb reboot download, or use the key combo for your device.
"
Click to collapse
Download Mode Key Combo: Vol + and Vol -
"
Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader. This will wipe your data and automatically reboot.
Just when you think the bootloader is unlocked, it is actually not! Samsung introduced VaultKeeper, meaning the bootloader will reject any unofficial partitions before VaultKeeper explicitly allows it.
Go through the initial setup. Skip through all the steps since data will be wiped again later when we are installing Magisk. Connect the device to internet in the setup!
Enable developer options, and confirm that the OEM unlocking option exists and grayed out! The VaultKeeper service will unleash the bootloader after it confirms that the user has the OEM unlocking option
enabled.
Your bootloader now accepts unofficial images in download mode.
"
Click to collapse
8. Next step will be flashing the patched image to your device. We will use 3 of the files from the original stock firmware files you downloaded except for the AP File.
But first click on Options and disable Auto Reboot! After that click on BL and choose correspondending File beginning with BL from the unziped original stock firmwarefiles you downloaded.
For the AP file we will choose the patched magisk image magisk_patched.tar we copied over from our device. For CP and CSC choose the CP and HOME_CSC files. USERDATA will not be used.
9. So now its time to flash your device. First connect the device to the PC. Without connection it will not get into download mode. Boot your device in download mode by first turning it off.
Turn it on by pressing the power button and if it turns on immediately press Vol + and Vol - after relasing the power button and hold it until you see the Download Mode Screen.
If you dont't get it try the fellowing: Turn on the device with power button. Hold Vol - and Power and wait about 7 secs until the display turn black. Imidiantly press Vol Vol + and Vol - and hold until you see the download mode
screen. Press Vol+ to activate Download Mode.
Back in Odin its now time to flash your device.
Press all finger and begin flashing by pressing "Start".
The flash process is finshed as you see the a green "Pass" in the left upper corner.
10. As of now you have to boot into recovery everytime to start your device into a rooted system. Be aware of this and avoid booting the device without pressing the key combination for the recovery. This must be
done everytime you turn it on or after every reboot of the device. If you forget this the device will boot into a non rooted system and samsungs security could make your device unusuable and you
have to flash the device again and losing all data.
So now press Vol - and Power for about 7 secs to reboot the device. Immediately press Vol + and Power. Hold it and wait until you see the stock recovery. It will
possibly show Ereasing data and reboot after that. Press again Vol + and Power and hold it until you will now see the recovery menu. Select Wipe data/factory reset with the Vol + and Vol - Buttons and confirm
with the power button.
After that reboot the device and press the recovery key combo again but now release it shortly after you see the Samsung Logo a second time. Wait until it is booted and do the initial
setup. Install Magisk Manager again.
When you start it it should show a message that it should have to do some further setups and will reboot the device.
Confirm that and wait until it reboots as you now have to press the key combo for booting
into recovery again. Release it as the Samsung Logo comes up a second time. So you see. This is a important step pressing this key combo.
11. So after the reboot your device should now be rooted. Check that by starting magisk manager.
Again this tutorial is based on the magisk documentation. So all credits go to topjohnwu.

Amazing! Thanks for this detailed info! Finally a way to Root our Tab!
Will follow your instructions, try it on mine (Hong Kong LTE) and give feedback.

Any update yet?
Thank you for the directions! I was able to root my SM-P200 (Korean Version). I did have to do step 7 (Unlock Bootloader) before step 6 (Patching the AP file with Magisk) for it to flash properly.
Mine stuck at "Download Mode" once flashed T_T
I followed all your steps but mine got stuck on "download mode" once flashed and restarted..How to solve it?
What option do i need to tick or untick during injecting magisk (i ticked all 3s including "recovery mode")? and during flashing with odin (i ticked only F. Reset Time)...
Can you share your "magisked" version of ap.tar?
i'm also using xme lte version of sm-p205...
Resolved
Thanks, solved the problem...All i did is extracting the .tar and recompress it using 7zip...Just ensure the compress one is in the same setup...and the 2nd screen of samsung (powered bt knoxx, same with the 1st screen, release the recovery key immediately once 2nd screen popped up) is the one after the "warning of boatloader with power symbol at the bottom" not the "samsung" only logo...Thanks people..Appreciate the post...
This is great - thanks
Bit of a shame we have to reboot via recovery or else risk loosing all our data. Any way around this? I suppose we would need TWRP for this device to flash RMM zip. And TWRP is probably unlikely considering this is a relatively uncommon device
Edit:
In accidentally starting without going via recovery it would seem I've now got KG prenormal. Can't flash the magisk patched AP. Only stock. So that's back where I am. Anyone have any advice on how I can root now? seems now to be undoable

Hi,
do you still see the oem unlock in delevoper settings? Normaly you have to put in a sim card, turn on mobile data and wait for 7 days until you can retry rooting.
flushb
P.S: I already compiled a kernel that boots but i dont think i am able to build a working twrp recovery because i am not a developer. Samsung did finaly release the current kernel sources.
P.P.S: I have made a magisk dual speaker module if someone is in need i can upload it.

Thanks for that - I think I'll just have to wait a little while. I'm using the wifi version so no sim for me. can still unlock bootloader ok, just can't flash magisk patched tar.
Well done on the kernel, hopefully TWRP appears for this device, it's a great little tablet.
I tried to have a go building TWRP using this guide (https://github.com/TwrpBuilder/twrpbuilder_tree_generator/wiki). But had some errors in compiling, though I'm not a developer so I'm not too sure about solving them. But when I've got time and motivation I'd love to learn more about development!

Download Mode Key Combo: Vol + and Vol -

The reason you get a bootloop is because even though the bootloader is unlocked and you've rooted the tablet, all of Samsung's security stuff is still enabled, so when you go tampering with the /system partition, it triggers the security and ultimately results in a bootloop. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to disable Samsung's security measures without a custom recovery, and even then you have to flash a NoKnox script to disable Knox, a multi-disabler to disable all of the other stuff, and then a custom kernel to completely wipe all of it out. Root is a good first step, but we are far from finished with this device. I'm currently working on TWRP, but from there who knows?

I have shared my detail experience at https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-a/help/root-roms-2019-tab-8-0-sm-p200-5-t3933089/page2
can i update magisk through magisk manager ??
hi,
thx for the comprehensive instruction.
I have successfully rooting my sm-p205
I have 2 questions if u pls help me :
1. I want root my sm-p205 because I want to use tincore keymapper. but although now I have successfully rooted it, it seems that I have to set the selinux to permissive.
I have tried all I've found, from using selinuxmodechanger, selinuxswitch, or even using terminal with su 0 setenforce 0, and all not working. that selinux still enforcing.
can u pls help me how to change the selinux ?
2. if I couldnt change the selinux, than it's no use for me to still on root. Is there anyway to go back to original stock firmware and unroot ? because I read on the last instruction of magisk that I may not flash it again with usual ap file that it may make it brick ?
thx
Any update on a lineage build for this? I would love to have adaptive storage work on this tablet - the adb shell version fails for me corrupting the sd.
This is a much easier way to flash a new recovery and custom roms. Besides using a PC / USB cable for unlocking the bootloader, all the process can be done straight from your device.
IMPORTANT: This procedure is only valid for LG G6 H872. Other G6 variants will end up bricked. All partitions will be wiped, this means that all the files needed must be saved to your external SD. It’s been tested with 20g firmware.
Prerequisites:
LG G6 device with original Oreo 20g firmware and fully charged
External SD card
Download and install su98.apk, Root Checker and Flashify
Download this specific TWRP version and save it to your external SD
Download Magisk and save it to your external SD
(Optional) Download latest TWRP to flash A10+ custom roms and save it to your external SD
0. Backup everything
1. Unlock your bootloader, otherwise you will brick your device. You can follow this guide.
2. Disable Google Play Protect (from PlayStore) or you won't be able to go on with the next step
3. Install su98.apk, open it and tap INSTALL NOW (leave the checkbox blank)
4. Install Root Checker and open it to verify that your device is rooted
5. Install Flashify and open it to flash TWRP (recovery_h872_20180813-1.img)
6. Turn off the phone (at this point, if the phone boots to Android you will have to start over from step 3).
7. Reboot into recovery (press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons together for a few seconds. When the LG logo appears, release the Power button while keep pressing the Volume Down and then press the Power button once more. Once you see a white screen, use Volume keys to choose "Yes" and Power button to select the option, you will have to press “Yes” twice).
8. Once in TWRP (be patient, takes some time to load) a “decrypt data” legend will appear. Press cancel. Then swype to allow system modifications. After that, go to Wipe / Format data and confirm by typing yes.
You are now able to flash any Stock ZIP (not KDZ). If this is your choice, remember to flash Magisk after flashing the ROM. If you want to flash any other custom ROM, jump to the next step.
9. Still in TWRP, flash Magisk to keep your device rooted
10. Flash the latest TWRP. Go to reboot options and tap Recovery
11. Once in the new TWRP, wipe system, data, dalvik, cache
12. Flash Rom + Gapps + Magisk and reboot to system
VIDEOS
Unlock bootloader LG G6 - H872
Root LG G6 - H872 without PC
Special thanks to Man Stevo for sharing this!!
LG G6 H872 back to stock Oreo 20g
IMPORTANT: All partitions will be wiped, this means that you must backup everything otherwise you’ll lose everything stored in the phone.
Prerequisites:
LG G6 device fully charged
USB cable
LG Mobile driver installed
Patched LG UP installed in the right folder (otherwise your device will not be recognized)
LG G6 H872 latest Oreo firmware (20g)
0. Backup everything.
1. We are going to flash this using the patched LG UP. Place the files in C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP. You can't just unzip it anywhere and run it, it will not find the model file.
2. Boot to download mode (power off your Phone. Plug one end of the USB cable to PC and while holding the Volume Up button connect the other end of the cable to your device. Release the Volume button once the device boots into Download Mode. To exit the Download Mode, press and hold the Power button until the device reboots)
3. Open LG UP and wait until the device model is recognized. Then choose partition DL
4. Pick the H872 20g KDZ and click start / ok
5. You’ll now get a list of partitions to flash, check them all and click start / ok
6. You may get a warning about additional modified partitions. Ignore it, and click ok
7. When the process is finished, the device will reboot
If the progress bar reached 100% and the device got stuck in the pink bootanimation, follow these steps:
Unplug the device and turn it off by holding Volume Down + Power (keep holding them down until it turns off)
Once the device is off, press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons together for a few seconds. When the LG logo appears, release the Power button while keep pressing the Volume Down and then press the Power button once more. Once you see a white screen, use Volume keys to choose "Yes" and Power button to select the option, you will have to press “Yes” twice.
The phone will now restore factory defaults and reboot to system
IMPORTANT
In case camera crashes when opening or you get an IMS error, you'll have to flash H87211h_00_0406.kdz (same procedure as above from step 0 to 7, just changing step 4 where you need to pick H872 11h KDZ), reboot to system (until you finish the initial wizard) and then flash H87220g_00_1228.kdz (again, same procedure from step 0 to 7).
Reserved
Works like a charm. Thanks
FYI, Going back to full working stock need to return to Android 7 firmware 1st (H87211h_00_0406.kdz); otherwise, you will get camera and IMS error.
Questions:
Does SkyHawk Recovery support stock firmware as TWRP can't backup and restore stock properly.

Worked here when getting back straight to stock 20g, but good to know for those with issues.
I didn't test any custom recovery to backup stock, so I don't know about that.
Thanks for reporting!
Has anyone else used this recently? I cannot get the phone to boot to recovery at step 7. I've tried:
1) press vol- and pwr until the LG logo appears, release power, and press it once more
2) same as 1) above, but pressing power button multiple times to get through the "your phone can't be checked for security stuff" warning
Both times, it just boots straight to Android.
EDIT: Using adb reboot recovery worked!
Yeah, it works @zolotiyeruki
Check the vídeo in the first post for more details with the whole procedure.

To follow up on this, I believe it's flagged because it is the exploit to get root that is seeing.
So it seems it's getting recognized by the anti-virus correctly and it's the desired functionality of the .apk.
(Anyone feel free to chime in to correct this if it's inaccurate.)

hello Magisk no longer provides a downloadable zip to flash with twrp. that and for some reason i cant seem to get twrp to stick after flashing ive followed the instructions as exactly except for not installing magisk via twrp. i tried to install magisk via the manager after flashing twrp the first time and wiping data after that i am givin the option to reboot to system which i tried first and was not able to boot back into twrp. after doing everything from step 1 to finish all over i tried staying to flash the latest twrp before returning to system but seeing as how i dont have any gapps or roms or a flashable zip for magisk i just rebooted to system after flashing and still could not return to twrp..... i need help how do i get twrp to stick around after reboot, and how am i supposed to install magisk properly without the flashable zip? i seem to need a copy of my current boot.img so i can patch it with magisk and flash it with fastboot, how do i do this?
