just noticed this today, but whenever i receive a text message (sms/mms) the screen doesnt turn itself on. I hear the bell notification and see the trackball light up but the screen still stays on standby mode. Is this normal?
Im used to the iphone turning the screen on its own whenver i get a text message.
Nope, this is normal on all Android phones. Download SMS popup if you want a feature such as this. Quite irritating if you ask me, kinda a battery waster I would assume.
This is why Android phones usually have LEDs, or a trackball. For notifications
Doesn't Handcent SMS have this feature too..
Ok thank you! Its just was never around my phone or actually looking at it when i receive text messages. but for some reason today i was next to it and the screen didnt turn on.
I dont really want the feature, but i just wondering if i did anything to screw up the phone. Thanks again for the help!
handcent and chompsms have the popup i know for sure
I think I may actually like this feature better. The trackball seems more subtler. Although, I did enjoy knowing who was texting.
I prefer the trackball lighting as well (I don't want the screen to light up), but on the Desire ROM from MoDaCo, when you get a message the screen lights up and you see a preview on the lock screen. Messaging application icon also shows how many unread messages on the screen. I think it is cool. I don't want the screen coming on, but I like how it shows a preview on the lock screen.

Why would you want the screen to turn on?
So everyone else can read your texts?
Trackball notifications are awesome.
I just got TrackballAlert on the Desire ROM which allows you to choose your own colors.
During St Patty's day: "Hey your phone is glowing blue. What is that? That looks awesome!"
LOL. i didnt like that the texts would just take over the screen....people can see that mug!!!
not that i wanted that feature, but i thought it was standard for all phones to have the screen turn on from standby when getting a text....i just thought i did something to screw up the phone.
Ugh
I had this issue on my LG G2 where, randomly, the green LED status light would start flashing like there is a notification, when there is none. This is related to the Alarm. I posted this over in the G2 forums and I will post it here.
How to fix:
Clear all Notifications
Turn off Screen
(wait for notification light to blink) [confirm]
Turn on Screen
Go to Clock, disable Alarm
Double tap Status bar / Turn off Screen
(wait for notification light to NOT blink) [confirm] [fix]
Turn on screen and enable your Alarm.
The LED light should no longer blink for no reason.
Really kind of disappointed in the G4 software wise. On my G2, this issue and the lagging/FCing keyboard was huge issues that made me want to upgrade to the G4. Sad to say that even the newer software and newer hardware, these bugs are still present.
Thanks for this I'm sure it will help a few people out there.

The only issue I've had regading the blinking lights was if I swiped away a notification from the lock screen and locked it again, it would blink until I pulled down on notification bar. Same thing?
Sent from my G4 using your mom
Nope. It randomly just starts flashing. I do turn off notifications from facebook and XDA via android system....
Happened twice tonight already since 5pm. During the day I am hammered with work emails, gmails, text, and hangouts so I dont notice it much. But a night when its flashing but there are no notifications, i have to disable the alarm amd reenable to fix it.
Same with my old G2.
Maybe the disabled notifications are turning on the LED notification but android is hiding the actual notifications. I will try reenabling them and disabling them via the apps.
Update:
Clearing those apps in the Sounds and Notification settings menu per app page, did turn the light off. So maybe that is the bug.
It started on my G2 when lollipop update came out. It is easier to disable app notifications this way as they come in by holding the noification and disabling it on the andoid side. I'll report back if thats it.
Big problem with led notification
This is the biggest problem in my g4, at least for me.
But i didn't understand what is the connection to alarm? I don't use alarm and still have this stupid bug : (
Well the alarm toggle is just a quick way to turn it off.
I do think the connection as been found with the Android notification hiding. I havent had the problem reoccur since I "allow all notifications" in the android settings... then turn off notifications within the apps directly.
It seems Androids "hide notifications" isn't doing a great job. It keeps the popups hidden, but still turns the lights on.
Turning off notifications within the Apps may also save battery since the App is still basically polling for updates on the network side, just being blocked from displaying them.
I am still testing but I think I nailed it.
Let's be clear.
My problem is not that the LED blinks without any notification.
My problem is that although i read my notification and now have no more any new notification - the led still blinking and i can't stop it.
Thats the same thing
*same issue i had
Scenerio:
Grab my phone and light is flashing. Check notifications. Clear them. Put phone down. See it blinking still. Pick it up. No notifications. No way to turn it off.
Update: Still getting random LED notification lights. Typically happens in the evening. Very weird
Me too
I even think to turn off the led light.
Anyway it's doesn't show the real notification.
Btw, is it problem with LG or with lollipop??
Tnx
I like using timely alarm from the play store. Never had that issue.
It has nothing to do with the alarm, it is just a quick way to fix the issue.
Question: Do you use stock SMS or 3rd party? I use Hello SMS.
Ok, maybe there is connection between the alarm and the led notification, because the bug happen to me usually after i use alarm in the morning (alarm clock extreme free from play store).
When i press i VIBRTATE and back to normal ringing it's usually stop the led blinking
I use stock alarm. But my alarm is only set Mon-Fri yet it happens randomly on sat and sun. It seems to clear itself after a while too...sometimes.
everyone who have this issue -
1. do u use what'sapp?
2. in which color your LED blinking (without notification)? it it your color alert you choose for what'sapp?
I dont use WhatsApp. My notification like is green. Only seems to do this at night but I get slammed with emails (corporate phone) and may not notice it during the day.
The only app I use that is not "common" that has notifications is Hello SMS. Otherwise I use messanger, facebook, xda, gmail, stock email, stock alarm.
Anyone use an alternative sms app with this problem?
It also appears to go away eventually after more texting/emails.
Usually (!) it's happen to me when i use whatsapp:
When i got picture in whatsapp or if i got both 2 messages in whatsapp - the led keeps blinking.
Sometimes it's happening to me when i use alarm clock free from Google play but now delete this.
What weird is that not of the users have this issues.
Tomorrow i gonna go to the store i bought the device and try to talk with them.
Maybe have the opportunity replace the the LED on the brighter?
Any people have this issue??
I know 4-5 people that have this issue.
PLEASE TEST
this isuue happen to me when i got picture in what'sapp (and in more cases).
can someone try to get a picture in what'sapp on his own device?
remember- after i got picture in whatsapp i turn on the device, saw the picture and turn off the device - but the led keeps blinking.
please if anyone can make a test on his own device- it will help me!!
tnx!
All I want is "peeking" and the lockscreen notifications to work! Isn't this part of Marshmallow?
Anyone else find notifications to be not working/inconsistent? What I am looking for is to have the screen turn on with every notification...this phone is either sitting on my desk or in a car holder most of the time, so I want to see the notifications without having to handle the phone. I've tried some 3rd party heads-up notification apps that work pretty good, but I am having issues with the lock screen (sometimes I have to enter and pin AND use the fingerprint scanner, which is a bit much to just access the phone).
1. I seldom get peeking notifications even though "peeking" is selected. With some apps, peeking works sometimes and not others. I have never seen a Peek notification for gmail.
2. I find the notifications seldom turn the screen on, even though I have the ambient screen turned on. Perhaps this has something to do with problem 1.
Am I the only one?
I have the same issue. Did you find a fix?
There is already a thread on this topic, may be answers in there. However, its working fine for me, so its not an issue for all users.
Hi,
I noticed that I have this problem also. Someone managed to solve this?
Have you tried putting apps in the priority lane?
It seems an obvious omission that the AOD does not reveal basic handset status.
Flight Mode and Mute/Vinbrate status (and probably some other things) would be great stuff to know without having to activate the screen.
Is there a setting to display this info beside the Date Time and Battery?
I am probably missing something simple here as I find my way around my new S7 edge.
Yeah turn on your screen.
Sent from my Blackberry Bold
Will do for now.
Hopefully Samsung might add phone status when/if they update AOD.
Time and date on AOD is of little use to anyone who wears a watch.
I have to put my phone in and out of flight mode several times each day. I also set it to silent call in meetings quite ofter. A couple of icons displaying this status of this would be far more useful to me. This way I do not have to continuous toggle the screen on to see if calls will come in, or be audible when they do.
Before I even get started, I know CM13 is outdated/discontinued/insecure. I'm aware, I'm stuck with it for a while.
I've been trying to get the notification LED on my phone to work the way I want. I had no problems doing this with Light Flow on my old Samsung GS4. Things were not so peachy until I was reminded Cyanogenmod has built in controls for the notification LED. I have everything set up just the way I want it, it demos just fine when I'm punching in the settings. The problem is it won't work reliably when I set my phone down.
With my GS4, if the screen was off and I had notifications, the LED blinked accordingly. My N6P doesn't do that. I've caught it blinking a few times throughout my day, and had friends send me notifications while it's sitting on my desk, so I know it works sometimes. But the LED won't stay that way forever, eventually it just decides my notifications aren't important enough to me and stops blinking.
I'm having a hard time really pinning down it's logic because it seems to just work when it wants to. I have a theory that the way the 6P is really aggressive about saving battery, whatever service controls the LED is being woken up when a new notification comes in and eventually being put back to sleep, but I simply don't know enough to say. While I'm at it, I don't think I have any way of assigning priority to the different notifications (a text message is more important than an email, for example), so my color code scheme might as well go out the window.
I don't know why google seems to hate the notification LED so much, every time I try to google the issue I just get tons of pages telling me how Google hid it away and you can turn it back on in the settings for AOSP. Obviously none of that is helpful, maybe someone here has an answer?
